The quality of soup dumplings is not close to how it should be. When I first walked into this restaurant, I had a feeling that it was going to be Americanized-Chinese food based on the decorations and ambience. It's very busy at this place, so with a group of 4, we did have to wait. I was looking forward to the soup dumplings, and they were disappointing. Small buns, barely soup, not much flavor in the soup of meat, and the skin was thick. It didn't taste close to the soup dumplings I've had before. The service of the place is great. All employees are super friendly. The restaurant has a high-top bar inside (which you'll never really see in a Chinese restaurant), and there were lots of TVs. Came on a Friday at dinner time and we were seated immediately! You can see the servers working quickly and efficiently to help as many tables as possible. We ordered rice, noodles, and dumplings which all came out piping hot. Delicious, as well! The cocktails were definitely strong - you don't even need to order more than one. A solid place for Chinese food. Hits the spot for some yummy classic dishes. Recs are the cashew chicken, chow main with the homemade* noodles, Chinese sausage fried rice, and pot stickers. In San Diego for business. I was hungry and found this place and went by myself. Grateful they took me in 45 min before closing. Super fast and efficient. Ordered the vegetarian dumplings, one bowl of white rice, and one small egg flower soup. Food tasted good. I'm all for supporting small businesses, especially restaurants. It's HARD work. I'm sure it's even more difficult after the last couple of years. 4 stars only due to the cost of one cup of pre-made egg drop soup that was sitting in a warmer. One small cup, not a bowl serving. I know the price of eggs have gone up the 2 years. The soup was 67% the cost of my 10 veggie dumplings. I thought "small" portion would have been enough for 2 people. I was pleasantly surprised by how well our meal was! I had heard mixed reviews about this place but I still had to try it for myself. Glad I did! We ordered the pork Xiao Long Bao, beef lo mein, orange chicken and the pickled cucumber salad. The XLB were plump, juicy and delicious! They were a little thicker and doughier than what I've had before but they were still so good. Especially dipped in the soy and vinegar. We also had the beef lo mein. This wasn't like any regular ole low mein. This was packed with flavor and the beef was of good quality. The orange chicken was.. ehh.. okay. Honestly, it was nothing special. Sweet and kind of boring and tasted like any other orange chicken. I do have to say it wasn't too bready at least. We also ordered the pickled cucumber salad. That was SO good and a perfect refresher between our dishes. If you're wondering about this place, you should definitely give it a try. The dumplings were good but I wish they had more variety. The XLB was particularly good, the outer layer was thick enough that it didn't fall apart. I do wish they would have provided soup spoons though. For a Saturday night it wasn't very busy - I waited only 5 minutes for a table. The inside is much larger than normal for convoy, with a nice atmosphere though it's kind of loud and somewhat hard to have conversations. The waiters didn't come by very often so make sure to order what you want the first time. The portions are, unfortunately, somewhat big so definitely need multiple people. We didn't even finish it. Also, I want to note that service has never been good here, and maybe because it's a typical Asian restaurant, the standards are low... but why do we accept this kind of abuse? DURING COVID REVIEW: I haven't been here in a while, but I'm so glad to know this place is open for dine in with all of their social distancing measures. All of their employees wear masks and have placed plastic partitions in between each table along the walls. Every table is cleaned before and after usage, customers are seated 6 feet apart and overall the restaurant is spotless. My first time here with high hopes. Unfortunately I was sadly disappointed with selection of dumplings for a place called Dumplng Inn. This is basically an authentic but limited Chinese restaurant. The dumplings are an appetizer and they have about 3 to choose from being steamed or fried. Was hoping they had at least shumai and bao. The steamed dumplings (gyoza) were plentiful but needed seasonings to complement it. We also ordered the beef with scallions which was tender but alot of scallions. The lo mein noodles were tasty but a little over fried making the noodles chewy. We also ordered a dish that had chicken, shrimp and squid that had wonderful flavors and vegetables but the squid was very chewy. Sadly they only give you one bowl of rice with each entree. Food took about 30 minutes, we ordered around 10 entrees and 30 dumplings. The best dish was the walnut shrimp, followed by the fried rice. The beef and broccoli was unique having a strange meat taste. Don't know what type of meat was used, but the veggies were fresh. If your party is 6 or larger, they will bill you 20% extra for the tip. Definitely not your standard party of 8 or more. So like us, the party of 8 saw that charge on our receipt. The flavor of all the dishes didn't make it on the top 10 list, even though I order more than 10 dishes. Didn't even get any fortune cookies with my bill. Wtf! Your basic entree serves 2 people, maybe 3 if you eat all the side veggies and garnish. I tried to like this place, but the parking is relatively lacking in this strip mall. Be prepared to spend 10 minutes looking for a spot. I believe all the dishes were made for tourists, the lack of spice and MSG ruined my taste buds. With all the Asian restaurants in the area, PF Chang's has more flavor and portion size for what you pay.
