The first part of my review is long overdue as Jesse and his assistant installed the new HVAC system for me so quickly in August last year. They are so pleasant and professional. And the system has been working perfectly ever since. Last week, I started hearing wind-like noise from only one particular vent, so I contacted Dunrite. Jesse accommodated my request immediately and squeezed me into his busy schedule. He said that I heard the whispering noise because the vent wasn't open enough, causing the noise. I felt so embarrassed but he was totally cool about it. I am glad that I met Dunrite, and I am sure that they will be there to assist me going forward. Bad service and lack of communication since they were unable to give straightforward reasons why they didn't fix it the first time when they told me it was already fixed. it took 4 more days to set a new appt after 6 phone calls never returned. Next visit the tech not even took a look at what the first tech replaced on attic unit went outside only ans fuse box and blame problem to lack of maintenance in condenser when air was working right ans cooling good the week after they left all the sudden it was wrong When I call they don't give explanation and wait to get a call from them so I have to call insurance. I did call several times and finally request awevicw from another company because I was unhappy with their treatment but they refused to send somebody else so they denied to repair based on the lies of what was wrong with it when it was working when they left the first time so I cancel the insurance for bad service of Dunrite unable to show pictures and passing the ball many times instead of helping me with an honest service. Will not use them again and will not recommend anyone to get service from them. I'll someone who has been yelp elite for three years, who feels slightly guilty about saying anything for small businesses, because I know how yelp reviews can really make things difficult I feel no guilt and writing this review about how poorly DunRite could not seem to get anything done, right. I called our local handyman from back home to get some ideas on how to manage our heating problem. Jesse, who whatever you do if you choose to go with Dunn right, you should refuse to work with, came out six times and still never got the job done. our handyman was initially right the first time, but it took Jesse three times to even recognize that the flap was broken. He promised us heat to our downstairs and then after five attempts told us it's just not possible to get heat in the downstairs when this is never been a problem before. then to top it off on his sixth attempt found some thing that was broken and completely removed the duct For airflow, and warned me not to let my toddler into the laundry room because it wasn't safe and he would be back on Friday... Maybe. He refused to commit to a time or a day, and then did not answer or return calls for two weeks. We reached out to the owner, who was less than helpful, and would not even come and finish up his employees job. DunRite first came out to our home December 8 and it is now March 13 and the job still is not complete. Dunrite just came out a few days ago to replace my AC unit. They originally installed one along with a new heating unit 15 years ago, so it was a no brainer to use them again, however, I decided to get two additional bids. Dunrite's quote came in much lower than the other two competitors. They arrived 30 min early, and within 2 hours it was ready to go. The new AC unit is much quieter, cools the house down quicker. Mike and Jesse have worked on both of my gravity / floor heaters, reconditioning both. Most other firms would not touch them--Dunrite is one of the few that still work on these old war horses. Yes its a small shop with personal service from the key guys, so they do appreciate working with their schedule if it is not an emergency. Dunrite? The name should be Dunwrong. Mike and Jesse installed a basic mini split system that only worked a year. I called Mike and Jesse to get it fixed but Jesse could not figure out the problem after multiple attempts. I was very patient, however, their atrocious communication only added to my horrible experience with them. I had to call them multiple times a week for over a month to get them to try and do anything. I moved into my home a year ago and have had a company come out to work on a two-year old heat pump several times without success. No AC in the summer and no heat in the winter. Having given up on my home warranty company I started looking for another repair service when I noticed one of the DunRite installers working on a neighbor's unit and requested a business card. I just ended a conversation with the owner, Mike and am still amazed this guy is in business! While I was explaining the situation, he kept cutting in and telling me (1) how bad home warranty companies are, (2) how stupid the repair people were and (3) how he had been in business longer than anyone I had ever had do work for me. He also couldn't schedule an appointment for me because he didn't know how much he would get done by the end of the week so I should call him next week. At the end of the conversation I explained to him that I am very big on communication and work hard to make sure I'm understood. I told him I was a bit frustrated that he kept interrupting me. His response: "I am a 68 year old man and you can just find someone else Honey!" He then hung up on me. Do not patronize this business. Mike is very thorough with his work. He came over to install our AC compressor in Fremont a few years back, and was reasonable in pricing, compared to the the 3 other bid quotes we received from other contractors. Our AC has been working fine, until recently. Then, Mike came out to replace a capacitor and the unit was working fine again. He also installed a super boost to increase the lifespan of the unit. He really knows how his AC units. If you're looking for professional work, call Mike. He is direct, sincere, and get-to-the-point kind of guy. So, don't be offended, he's just direct to get work done fast, and is very busy. During work, he's hilarious, and has a ton of jokes up his sleeve (ask him to tell you the one about a guy carrying a gun to a bar). He may not be the cheapest in town, but he gets work done correctly as he is the most experienced/qualified for this type of work. He has over 48 years of experience in the AC and heating business! You can definitely settle for a cheaper quote from a new guy who is learning the ropes in the AC business. Or you can pay a little more for quality and lasting results. My folks had a defunct furnace, and had to bear the uncomfortable cold, which is especially tough being that they are elderly. Mike came by to give a quick honest estimate. He was able to explain everything in the most thorough manner to a layperson as anyone possibly can. A couple of days later his crew installed the new furnace and thermastat. DunRite has been our go-to company for home heating and AC for over 20 years and this week has been our best experience to date. We needed a new heater, AC, and ducting in our 50-plus year old house to include removal of existing asbestos ducts. Mike at DunRite worked with us and the asbestos folks to ensure the end of the duct removal ended as DunRite began their work, to ensure we only had to go one night without heat. At the end of the second day (March 6) of work, we were up and running in a toasty warm house. The installation of a modern, efficient system gave us max heat in minimum time. Mike came over yesterday and said it was too hot and he will come over tomorrow morning. I called him by 10am, thinking the morning is running late and i stayed home from work waiting. He YELLED at me that he told me not to wait for him and he would call me 30 min before he came. Well, he did NOT say that. When i pointed it out he YELLED again that he has been in business for 40 years and he always says that. I pointed out that 30 min is not enough time, i work for a living just as he does and need an hour to get home. HE HUNG UP ON ME! Never have i had it happenned to me. I called him back to check if he will be here tomorrow morning, since it is stinking hot ( 103) and i am willing to swallow my pride to have the air working, but i called another service that came over and fix the problem ( the fuse tripped), paid $100 and called Mike to tell him i no longer need his services. read more

I have a mixed response to DunRite. During my first conversation over the phone, I asked how much it would cost to get an estimate. I was told it would cost $100 for a diagnostic report. I asked if that would be credited toward the cost of a repair should I decide to have repairs done. The guy laughed and said that no one does that. If they do something, there would be a charge. Any repairs would be in addition to that. What bothered me was the attitude I received. I didn't think it was a bad question and didn't expect to be laughed at for asking. The technician, Jesse, that worked on my air conditioner called me about 20 minutes before he arrived so that I could meet him at my house. My family let him in while I was enroute. He did a good job in determining what the cause was in a short time, perhaps 20 minutes. I have some understanding of the basic operation of an air conditioner so I know that what he tried, checking the capacitor for the blower motor, made sense. It was the cause and cost a reasonable $15 for the part. All in all, I am pleased with the service, although the customer service from the person at the office could definitely be improved. read more

Mike came out within 24 hours to fix our AC and had it fixed within 20 minutes! We were looking at dealing with 100 degrees this weekend in our 2nd story condo unit so it was a huge relief both for us but more importantly for our pets. We had selected DunRite to install the unit 4 years ago when they were the most creative company and were able to devise a clever way to install the system in our unit. Absolutely the worst rude customer service and gouging I have ever seen. I used them years ago and would have given them a 5 star back then. Different story nowadays. Had a blower unit that would not come on. They diagnosed the issue in a few minutes it was the motor. Estimate was $975 for a $170.00 part and 30min labor. According to the Tech, they don't do hourly work, just flat fee. No thank-you. Called DG Heating and Air. Tech was 15 min early and texted me 20-min before arrival to make sure I could get back home. Diagnosed the issue in 10min as a bad capacitor. Drove back to their shop to get the part. Installed it and working!! Total cost: Parts, Labor, leaving to get part, installation, testing $164.60. $810 dollars cheaper than DunRite and 1000x more pleasant to deal with. Tipped the Tech and now I'm heading out to a nice dinner. CALL DG BEFORE PROCEEDING. read more

Mike is a jerk. He might be good at his trade but he's rude and doesn't seem like a nice, honest, hardworking gentlemen like I would feel comfortable hiring. I asked is he was licensed and he laughed, said he had been doing this long enough. I asked for an appointment on Monday to which he responded he would see how the weekend went and let me know but sometime between 10am and 1pm. When I said that I was going to need to get back to him to confirm he said "meh, NO! Don't bother calling back. I've hired Dunrite to add AC at my house in June 2016. The outcome is a (potentially) working AC (Haven't tested in a hot day yet), but just a HORRIBLE customer experience. I'll split my review in to two parts - The team - (ONLY reason why I've added a second star to my overall rating) Worked reasonably good, except for one main issue which was bad electrical work. In order to get the AC connected they've added a wire and just connected it very unprofessionally, and in addition said that they didn't add it, but it was there before.. (The house passed full electrical inspection just 6 months ago). Their electrical work would never pass any basic electrical inspection. Was fixed upon my request. Mike (Owner) - I've worked with dozens of contractors so far. Mike is BY FAR the worst, and I'll explain : 1. Never in my life I've had a contractor YELL/CURSE me over the phone / face to face about anything whatsoever. 2. Never in my life I've had a contractor threaten me - "I'm coming over to your house today and am not leaving without a check" 3. Never in my life I've had a contractor STEALING equipment that I paid for from my own house - My previous furnace (new condition) suddenly 'disappeared' after they've ended the job - only after I've demanded to get it back - they've returned it. 4. Mike was dishonest enough to sell me a new furnace without me even needing it (had a new furnace in place already). When I called that bluff - he immediately said that "I got it for free - and he buried the cost for it". AHA. To summarize - the experience is just so bad. I'm still shocked to find out that business owners that treat their customers this way - are actually still in business. Extremely unprofessional and rude owner. I called him on a very cold Saturday morning to get my heater fixed. Mike asked me if this is an emergency. I told him that it is not an emergency since I have two heaters in the house and I normally use only downstairs one. But because of the cold wave and my new roommate who cannot stand cold, I want to get upstairs heater fixed as well. Mike told me he is very busy that day, but he will try to squeeze in some time to come over and take a look. After couple of hours, Mike called me and said he would be coming over in half an hour. He showed up shortly and started investigating the heater. He asked me when I last used it. I told Mike that I never had to turn it on since I have two heating systems. Upon hearing this, he asks me "Do you expect me to work on something that never gets used on Saturday when I could be with my family" First I thought he was being funny, but he immediately left, and I was stunned ! This is extremely unprofessional. Why would you care when the heater was turned on last time. You are a professional who gets paid to fix the heaters (or AC units), then do your job without worrying about how much it is useful for user of that equipment. I grew very concerned after reading the one star reviews on this business. When I first booked my appointment I have just left church on a Sunday afternoon I needed HVAC repair as soon as possible. After calling five other HVAC companies, Dunrite was the only one that could see me in the next week. The next afternoon, Monday, the owner of the business came to my home and assessed my HVAC system. I prayed diligently hoping that our conversation would be pleasant as a lot of the reviews refer to the owner being combative and difficult to work with. My experience was great. I even brought up the fact that some of the reviews reference his attitude and demeanor, and he owned it. The fact that he took extreme ownership of this was amazing. I'm giving him and his staff five stars because they were very easy to work with, the work was done right, And I didn't feel like I was getting sold anything. Our HVAC system works wonderful now. This guy (old guy with glasses) is a disgrace....he came over to check my AC Unit...and somehow my unit just started working, when I switched it on.....this guy asked for a $70 service charge, fair deal, and I immediately consented to pay. I just requested him to do a diagnostics and check if there is something that made my unit not run for the last 2 days.... he denied and said that he won't do anything as the unit was on...he just wanted his money that very second or threatened to call police, as if I was doing anything wrong. He did not let me say a word and even let me restart the unit, fearing that it may not run again and he will have to work....as he just got lucky with $70 without even ANYTHING...he refused to check my thermostat settings....saying there are millions of models...so what else we call the experts for....he stared shouting in my house, didn't even care about my 7 year old being there at home. I had previously had a great experience with Dunrite when my AC went out in the middle of the summer a few years ago and unlike the other AC vendors I called, Mike responded and came out. I just had them install a ductless split system into my upstairs bedroom. Jesse came out and did the quote promptly and Mike offered some lower cost suggestions to some HVAC issues we were having on the first floor to try before spending more money there. The system was installed, the ducts were adjusted and everything was cleaned up and explained to me for future reference. I like how Mike and Jesse were not trying to sell me the most expensive option, but one that would meet my needs. I will definitely keep using them for my HVAC needs. read more

While I was turned off at the beginning with the rough tone, high-sounding claims, and coarse treatment, I'll admit they are knowledgable in the category and were both professional and efficient in installing a brand-new furnace. My old one had completely fried, and we were without heat for a few days, so thankful that they responded promptly to my request and were able to pull of a same-day install. I called to try to schedule an appointment and the person on the phone (a lady) hung up on me because she was getting impatient answering my questions, telling me she didn't want or need my business. I was just telling her that I wasn't comfortable with the "$200 cancellation fee policy" without some indication of when I should be at home (even a 4 hour window would be OK). I was going to book them anyways, but she hung up and told me to find someone else before I could say anything. Dunrite was recommended to me. I spoke to several companies, all referred, for estimates and explanations of what was needed. Dunrite was the last one I called. They recommended a solution that was reasonably priced, had logical reasons for their recommendations, did calculations of what was needed as far as ducts, and had it all installed in a day. They also came in with the lowest bid also. The guys were very polite, used drop cloths, and cleaned up when they left. The heater and air conditions both work. It's only been a couple of weeks but the heater works great and is much quieter. I will say that the company that gave me a bid that was about twice as expensive had a smoother sales pitch but Mike was clear as to why I didn't need the added cost. The person that recommended the company to me was a mechanical engineer and had the training to evaluate the requirements. I'm happy. read more
