Wahhh I'm 30 :( As some of you know I was having a heck of a time finding a place that would take a reservation for 8 people at 6:30pm on a Wednesday for my birthday dinner. Duo accommodated us, and we got the very nice table in the front by the window. I immediately ordered the Highland Underground, which was a beet infused vodka martini with blue cheese olives. I loved it. It was earthy and refreshing, and who doesn't love blue cheese olives? For an appetizer I ordered the Gruyere Gougeres which are essentially cheese pate a choux filled with sauteed mushrooms. They were phenomenal. My friend was lucky I shared 1/2 of one with her... I was feeling greedy... it was my birthday after all. The server said that was probably their most popular appetizer, the braised bacon steak being the second most popular. I tried my husbands braised bacon and found it way too soft and fatty for my liking, but he finished the whole thing. For dinner I got the brisket. It was melt-in-your-mouth cut-with-a-spoon delicious. This was also paired with beets and spaetzle. I've never had spaetzle- the crispness was a lovely compliment to the tender brisket. I had a gluten-free friend in attendance, who ordered the sea bass, and they happily substituted the breaded polenta cake that came with the dish with a gluten-free side dish of roasted root vegetables and lentils. We brought our own birthday cake (they charge a $3pp cake serving fee) and ordered coffee, and certain friends ordered more wine... We never felt rushed, and our server did a great job with our party and answered our questions thoughtfully. He explained things thoroughly and checked on us frequently without being overbearing. It was a fun, intimate celebration and not colossally expensive. I'm going back for brunch ASAP. And ordering a martini. That's what 30-year-olds do. read more

I'm beginning to think I'm a brunch person. The time between breakfast and lunch is too short sometimes. While brunch takes care of both meals. Especially during lazy days. Or weekends. This is definitely a very cute spot. During Saturday's a farmers market right outside adds to the festive air. The day we came here it was Saturday. Halloween. The four of us scored a table with a reservation where we had a nice vantage point. Costumed customers surrounded us. Immediately I noticed their cute cloth table napkins. I had the Sweet Sunday. It's poached eggs, grilled ciabatta, greens, shiitake mushrooms, onion confit, white grain mustard cream sauce and crispy potatoes. Perfect poached eggs. Fresh greens. Crunchy bread. Heaven! No weekend brunch is complete without a mimosa. Get their Pink Mimosa. You want this. If you like grapefruit. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. The atmosphere was a bit more than A-OK because of their cute/quaint/quirky decorating touches i.e. flower printed cloth napkins w/ napkin rings, brick walls, colored wood frames as a room divider, Moroccan star lanterns, placemats with kids' recipes, Pooh bear quotes in the menu & a magnetic spoon on the bill/receipt. You'll notice the quirky appeal immediately before even entering Duo because their front entrance door is narrow/small & almost unrecognizable as the entrance at first glance. I thought the flavors of the French toast were alright but weren't too complimentary. Something about toasty bread with sour glaze that didn't excite me too much. I didn't think the tartness of the cherries would translate to sour by the level that it did. The Sweet Sunday was good but would not make my top ten list for most memorable brunch items. Made reservations for 9 on a Saturday at 8:30. Was bummed that we didn't get sat till almost 9. I was hungry :x First of all this place is located near the trendy shops and bars in the highlands so afterwards you can get a drink with your friends or ice cream at little man! I was also surprised at all the parking. Once we sat down the service was awesome. Cocktail and wine list was satisfying and the food was delicious. -English pea Brushetta. A runny egg on top of goat cheese? Perfection. -Cornmeal crusted rabbit: Need I say more? Tangy mustard dipping sauce to go with it -lamb meatballs. I honestly ate every last bite. The lamb was tender and the sheep's milk yogurt sauce just zoinked up all the flavors!! Still drooling over this dish. -My husband got the flank steak which was meh. I have been to this establishment many moons aka "YEARS" ago, for Brunch. Made a Dinner reservation for our meetup group to have a feast on what Duo can offer. Take note if you make a reservation more for 12 people, unfortunately you cannot do it online but just leave a message thru Duo phone number. Someone definitely will return back your call. The lovely staffs, indeed answered several of my queries what nots especially if you have Food Allergies in your party what nots. Do take note, they also require your Credit Card Number in order for you to make your reservation. They will charge $25, if you have a NO SHOW for your reservation etc etc. Yes this are some of the protocols that I have to undergo. Thankfully, when I arrived early like about 17:05hrs ish on Saturday Evening October 26th 2013, my name is on the reservation list. One of the staffs said she will get our table ready while she very politely ask me, if I could seat while I wait at the Bar in which I obliged. The bartender, also offer me water while I wait for abit. That evening, we had a party of 9. The reservation was for 17:30hrs. Once our table is ready which Duo situated us nearest to the Kitchen, where all the Action Begins NON-STOP. Our main Server his name is Nick. He is indeed prompt, welcoming, inviting and very efficient. He explained thoroughly all what we need to know from the Duo Menu and even go to that extra length when I ask specifically about Pork, or Ham or Swine products in their Menu. From the Menu, this were the items I ordered that evening : Appetizers : * Braised Octopus ($12.00) * Chicken Liver Mousse ($9.00) Main Entrée : * Lamb Mixed Grill ($26.00) I did not expect the Octopus dish for an appetizer to be too tomato-y, and only a few of Octopus found in the dish. The Flavor was robust but the Octopus tend to be on a tough side. The Octopus dish comes with white beans, san marzano tomatoes and bread crumbs. I was hoping to have more Toasted Breads in order to dip, those Tomatoes "stew". As for another Appetizer of Chicken Liver Mousse, yes it was indeed Divine, and I shared with everyone at the table. The Chicken Liver Mousse comes with pistachios, pickled apricots, smoked mustard, apple gelee and Irish butter toast. Some of my friends like it, some don't. Though I cannot deny, for the leftovers I had of this Chicken Liver Mousse, it tends to get more salty and the smell can be nauseating if you are not used to it. Now for my Main Entrée of Lamb Mixed Grill. Actually this dish is cooked in 3 ways aka Lamb in 3 ways. The actual dish comes with Lamb MeatBalls, Shredded/Braised Lamb and Lamb On The Bone with some vegetables. When I found out that the Lamb Meatballs is mixed with Pork before the Dinner, Nick, our Main Server, suggest that I can substitute the Lamb Meatballs with Sweetbreads. My Oh My, I am in love with my order of Lamb Mixed Grill. The Lamb Mixed Grill comes with celery root & potato puree, sheep's milk yogurt, young carrots and lamb jus. Once again, the portions are tiny and the pricing were high but I like my dish ALOT! Especially the sweetbreads in which I was hoping for more. The Lamb on the bone, I opt to be cooked well done. Food portion can be tiny for some. Some of my friends like what they ordered though some thought it was A-Okay, and some did not fancy with little vegetables in their Main Entrée or the Pork Cheek were FRIED hence the Flavor did not come thru. By the end of our Dinner, some of my friends order the Desserts. Once again, some like it, some said it was just A-Okay... By the evening that went by, this establishment is packed to the Brim. So RESERVATION is DEFINITELY necessary. Good in my books they allow separate checks for our group. 20% Gratuity was Included in our check. Then why the 4 stars?? Coz everything is good, from the staffs, our Main Server Nick, the food, but NOT the pricing and the portion. Kudos to the Chef, and everyone that made this Dinner a success. Stopped by Duo for brunch before embarking on a hike. Ambience was very chic and brunch-ey - high tables, nice tablecloths. The servers & bartender were very nice - gave us Denver tourists advice about what to check out, how hard our hike would be, and good bars & clubs to visit at night. The food items were really interesting, but inconsistent. We got a quiche, french toast, and the chorizo scramble. The quiche was by far my least favorite - it felt dry and cold, as if they had lightly microwaved it before serving. The chorizo scramble was better - more flavorful, but nothing special. I really liked their sourdough french toast - the gianduja syrup tastes like chocolate, and combining it with sourdough made for a pretty interesting mix. I'm also a complete chocolate addict, so...if you are too, you'll probably like this one. All in all, good service, but I wasn't blown away by the food. My experience at Duo was a few months ago - December to be exact. So it's been a minute! BUT, I remember that I really loved it. It sticks. My hubs arranged birthday brunch here and it was fantastic. First of all, this place is pretty darn cute and busy. I loved the open kitchen; you can see the food coming out and get a sneak peak of the menu. That's what made it so hard to choose what I wanted, to be honest. The food was great. Fresh, solidly executed and definitely tasty. I got the Sweet Sunday which was awesome because it wasn't heavy, yet filling. My kind of breakfast. I love breakfast that seamlessly includes all the veggies. Simply delicious! Duo has a feel that avoids the stuffy, pretentious atmosphere of many upscale restaurants. Rather, it's relaxed, charming, and welcoming. Our server was professional, attentive and gracious during our visit. All of this despite the fact that there were a couple large prom parties in his section. And of course, the drinks + food were outstanding too! We started with a couple cocktails: vodka & soda for me and The Bitter Truth for my husband. Mine was refreshing, as you'd expect. My husband's was amazing! In fact, so much so that he ordered three throughout our evening. Yes, three! It was ever-so-slightly sweet balanced with lovely aromatics and a hint of bitters. It was wonderful! For dinner, we shared the scallop crudo and spring salad. The scallop was served with micro greens, avocado, and citrusy oil. The only addition I'd make is a hit of spice (but then, I realize not everyone lives for spicy food). The salad was a beautiful mix of watercress, fresh mint, and fennel-- three ingredients I've never thought to combine-- and it was amazing. For entrees, I had the halibut and my husband had the crispy chicken. My husbands chicken, bone-in, was so juicy and it was perfectly seasoned. The halibut was cooked to perfection and the sauce with which it came was delectable! So glad we finally visited this little spot. It's a gem! read more

I would have given less stars but good thing their food is what saved them. Just got home from brunching at this place and by reading all the reviews before going I was really psyched to try their food. I was very disappointed by the service though. It seemed like we hit the jackpot for the worst waitress ever, we hoped that it was supposed to be her last day working that's why she was so inattentive. Or that she was hung over and should have called in. It took 10 mins to get our water, another 8 mins to get our coffee and drinks, and she only came back around once or twice. We needed our coffee refilled with not much luck. The people sitting next table over sat down after us and was able to order before us, get water before us, coffee before us and finish eating before our food arrived. Mind you we have the same amount of people in both of our parties. You'd think that it's a busy Sunday that you would want to be on top of your game so you can serve more tables and make more tips... but I guess not everyone has the same attitude towards work. Now on to the good stuff.... I got the Pink Mimosa to start which is grapefruit juice with St. Germaine Elderflower Liqueur, very tasty. Something different from regular mimosas. I wish they have bottomless mimosas though, that would make it better but then again, with the waitress that we had we might not have gotten any refills. We ordered... Sweet Sunday - kinda like a veggie benedict with poached egg, sun-dried tomato, spinach and mushrooms on top of a sourdough bread and home made sauce. The 'benedict' portion was delicious! It came with crispy potatoes. I personally was not a fan of their potatoes. Some of them weren't fried enough and the actual potato tasted raw, the good ones tasted a bit better and not as crunchy. The seasoning of the potato is great, just wished I wasn't biting into raw tasting potato with batter on the outside. Chorizo Scramble - My friend who had it said that it was delicious! A little spicy but overall a great flavor. She also enjoyed her French pressed Novo coffee, it was smooth and dark with low acidity. Great stuff if you're a black coffee drinker! Quiche of the Day - It had feta, cherry tomatoes, spinach and something else I don't remember. It came with a side salad full of spinach/arugula/baby mixed greens. Farm Fresh Egg Sandwich - This sandwich was massive. Comes with applewood smoked bacon, eggs, avocado and cheese. (I don't think I got all of what went in it.) Normally it comes with chips but we didn't find out they were out of chips until our server brought the dish over. Again, we weren't aware the chips were out before ordering and we had to ask her why it came with potatoes when it was supposed to come with chips. Side order of Chocolate Scones - $2 get you 2 little scones. By little I mean the 2 scones combined was not bigger than my iPhone 4. Small but delicious, it has a slight sugary and buttery crust. It goes great with the side of jam/butter. I will for sure come back for their pastry. Overall I think this place could have been 4 - 5 stars if the wait staff was a little bit more attentive. Or rather, our specific waitress. The decor is very cool with the exposed wall and vintage window frames. The food is great the prices are reasonable. I hope when I visit again I would have better experience. I would come back and try their dinner... Brunch experience today was a mere MEH. read more

The meal was absolutely delicious and just the right amount of food. I also love the atmosphere of this place as it is perfect for a night with the girls or a cozy romantic dinner. The food was mediocre at best, and while one diner's food was served hot, the other diner's food was only lukewarm when it too should have been served hot. This one dish had to be sent back, so we couldn't eat together. Our waitress seemed to visit our table only about once every half hour, so we never got to order a second round of drinks. The problems continued into dessert. Cappucinos were served without sugar, and despite requesting sugar at the time, it took our waitress almost 30 minutes to bring sugar (at which time the coffees were barely warm, so had to be remade, but were still served lukewarm). Also, our flourless chocolate cake, while ordered at the same time as the cappucinos, came more than half an hour later. Finally, to add insult to injury, these folks have the audacity to add a mandatory 22% tip, an insult given the dismal service we received. On balance, this was perhaps the worst dining experience I've had in a very long time. We won't be returning. You should give it a miss too. read more

Absolutely loved our meal at Duo. The venue is beautiful and intimate and the menu is amazing. Every item we had was delicious and the service was great. We split the corn hush-puppies as an appetizer and they were very tasty. A lot of unique items on the menu - all four of us had an excellent meal. We will be back! read more

I would write more feedback but that would be a waste of space just like the $30 a plate we we wasted on food that I could make with my eyes closed. I know I know, it's a little pricey, but can you really put a price on a restaurant that let's you make a reservation instead of sitting at snooze for 3 hours waiting for some great food? This place has been around for 13+ years and continues to be an excellent neighborhood spot. I love the inviting and warm vibe - it's the restaurant equivalent of an elegant cashmere sweater - easy, unfussy, timeless, and always in good taste. Food is consistently excellent, service is friendly and attentive. Sure there are newer, trendier places, but there is something very special about being "just" a great place to eat. No stunt food or Instagram thirst trap decor. They always put a great spin to what would otherwise be standard new American fare. This is the kind of place you can bring your family when they are visiting from out of town. Your hard to please mom will event like it. Menu is not intimidating and everyone will walk away happy. We'd been wanting to try Duo for years, and we finally made a reservation for Restaurant Week 2021. Restaurant Week is a big event for us and I check each menu out carefully before making my final choices. We specifically chose Duo because they were offering sea bass as one of their choices. Our reservation was for 7 p.m. We were finally seated at nearly 7:30, so were irritated already. We were given a small crudité plate for having to wait so long to be seated. When we sat down, there was no sea bass on the menu. Instead they were offering red trout, which is not what we wanted. The dessert menu was also different than what was posted on the Restaurant Week list. When I told the waiter we'd come for the sea bass he said "our menu changes daily depending on what is available that day." There is NOTHING on the restaurant week menu that says this, and there is nothing on Duo's website that says this either. If a restaurant posts a specific menu on the Restaurant Week list, they need to let people know that the offerings can change daily. We had come specifically for the sea bass, which was not available. We ate the crudités and left. We were both sooooooooooo disappointed that we did not get eat what we'd been waiting a week for: the sea bass. In many years of Restaurant Weeks and dozens of restaurants we have never had this experience before. read more

I recently celebrated my birthday at Duo with my husband. We had the pea pancakes with shrimp and the muscles for an appetizer. Both were fantastic. Unfortunately after the appetizers I was so full that I couldn't really eat the arctic char. It wasn't that the appetizers were too heavy, it's just me at all restaurants, so matter how great they are. I committed a restaurant sin, and asked them to cancel our 2nd drink order because I really couldn't eat any more that night. They probably were already making them, so I felt badly about it. The wait staff were understanding, and I really appreciated that. In addition I ordered the harissa carrots to take home with me. The next day I ate all of the leftovers. They were even better the next day, if that is even possible. All of these dishes had flavors I've never eaten before, and I'm a serious foody. They were absolutely incredible and I am going to go back. Next time, I won't cancel a drink order and I'm bringing extra people so I can try even more dishes. My husband and I are pescatarians. This means that we were limited somewhat in what we could try. But I'm planning on trying everything I can on the menu and menus to come. read more

My second time to Duo and I was just as impressed this time as I was the first. So much happening here that deserves a mention. First of all, the restaurant itself is well decorated - rustic wood details, exposed duct work with a nod to shabby chic with used, framed windows and large pot light fixtures. Really cool! The food was fantastic. We started with arancini balls (cheesy and amazing) and gnocchi (so tender and flavorful). We also got a couple of salads. For dinner, I got the bison which was topped with a tasty pepper sauce and served with broccolini and a potato rutabaga gratin. My friends seemed to really enjoy their meals as well. For dessert, we shared a very small chocolate torte, served with lavender ice cream - gosh, so good. It was hard to choose because all of their desserts sounded so good. If you're on the fence, don't think...just go. It's no wonder this place had been continuously recognized as one of the gems of Denver! read more

This was my first time here and after living in Denver for six years, had heard great things about it but never been until now. I made a 6:45pm reservation but due to difficulty in finding parking we didn't actually get into the restaurant until 7pm. I wasn't able to call as hence I was parking but found a voicemail on my phone after we arrived from 6:55pm saying they were only holding our table for 5 more minutes. It could have been why they seemed to awkwardly seat us in the bar at what they described 'was their only table'. We looked over in the dining room and the place was almost completely empty! We were confused... I guess I expected more. I came with a fellow foodie friend and we prepared to eat our way through the menu together, sharing dishes along the way. We started with the tomato heirloom app which was yummy but a little too much vinegar. Next was the scallop crudo, a dish I typically love. This one seemed to be inconsistently overseasoned on one half of the dish because you could see the heavy amount of seasoning. The dish was also on a bed of melon granita which melted and created a watery salty home for what was left and made it hard to eat. We shared the petite greens salad and wild salmon entree for dinner, which we both agreed was very yummy! The salad could have had a little less dressing but we ate it anyway. We finished with the chocolate cashew tart, which was just enough. We came in on a reservation around 7pm and left around 9pm but our server seemed to want to hurry us out near the end, not sure why. Not sure how sitting at a high top with a baby is a "liability," when I am holding my baby the entire time (not placing her in a child seat). If the manager today had any idea what it's like to have an infant, they'd know that moms are either a) breastfeeding or feeding, or b) are standing while soothing, rocking, etc. Once again women being told how to live (and in this case, parent) by men really put a bad taste in my mouth. Insinuating that I would drop my 8 month old if I sat at a particular table is absolutely ludicrous and inappropriate. Do better. read more

I got a spring hash because I wanted a light meal and it was really flavorful. The sweet potatoes complimented the over easy eggs. Greens were fresh. Reminded me of Snooze's sweet potato hash though. I slightly prefer Snooze's over Duo's hash. Their pastry flight on the other hand...was incredible. How does chocolate chip banana bread taste like that? Their scone + jam = fireworks in my mouth. I came here for brunch on my birthday with a group of friends/family. The food was delicious, but a tad overpriced (which is to be expected being in the Highlands). Service was acceptable but there were quite a few times when we needed something and had to wait a while before our server came by. I had called to make a reservation (which went well, we were sat right away on time) but I had asked if I could bring a cake in and while they said yes, they failed to mention that there would be a 'cake-cutting fee' . So, not only were we charged to cut a cake, one of my guests who didn't even eat any of it was charged. We got that taken care of, but if someone asks to bring a cake in you really need to let them know about the bullshit fee that comes along with it. It was a while ago, but from what I remember it was not a small charge. I believe it was $5/person. read more

Duo quickly became our favorite breakfast spot and favorite next level creative food in Denver. My boyfriend and I recently moved to Denver from the bay area and have been on the hunt for food that compares and found Duo is no lightweight when it comes to amazing, unique cuisine. We always opt for the french press coffee which, we feel, is noticeably more delicious than your average joe. The food is rich, flavorful and just right, especially the biscuits and gravy. If you're a big B&G fan (like myself), look no further. We've found your home, friend, welcome home. We always love the staff, and appreciate the good vibes that Duo offers all around. Oh! and the placemats! So very cute and extra hilarious! Do yourself a favor cruise over for some delicious coffee and refined down-home culinary goodness. Enjoy! read more

Very cute, rustic place in the highlands with a southern ambiance - even the napkins are patterned cloth! Food was okay on both occasions and overall a good experience. On the first visit, I got the cider glazed pork benedict. The pork was very tender and was nicely caramelized, but a tad too sweet. Within the first few bites, the texture held up well - the ciabatta maintained a crunchy exterior and soft center, but got soggy very quickly. On my next visit, I got the duo dumplings and stripped bass. The dumplings were filled with lamb sausage and potato purée, served in a citrus, parsley sauce. The filling and sauce were very tasty and complemented each other well, but the skin of the dumpling was a little undercooked. Bass was cooked well and tasted very fresh with the lemon cream sauce. Great pairing choice of brocolini too. read more

As someone from Louisiana, I often steer clear of dishes from Colorado restaurants that are inspired by southern food because no one does it like the South! BUT, I ordered the Buttermilk Fried Chicken with mashed potatoes, bacon kale, and gravy and I have to say it was absolutely delicious. I have high expectations for fried chicken as a Louisianan and I was highly impressed. The chicken was crisp and fresh on the outside and juicy on the inside. The bacon kale was braised perfectly and added the soul food flavor to the dish. The mashed potatoes were creamy and the gravy was the perfect "sauce" to top off the dish. I would 100% recommend this place to a friend and will definitely be returning! read more

We decided to get some Yelpers together and try to get the Breakfast Club Badge which I here takes more than 2-3 people checking into the same place at once. Lindsey K., Chris K. and Sam S. plus myself ventured to Duo for brunch, late brunch. I highly recommend reservations since at an 11:30 arrival on Sunday we were quoted a 60 minute wait. To there credit we were actually seated within 45 minutes. Always nice when they over deliver on seating times. Being the Yelpers that we are I think most of us had already perused the menu a bot before being seated, I definitely did. Our waitress was sweet and I always love a place that leaves a bottle of water on the table. Saves time for the waitstaff and keeps me with water for my meal. I really enjoy the smaller menu. It had variety but not 10 pages of variety. I think a smaller and better executed menu is the way to go. Our table enjoyed: Pink Mimosa - Made with grapefruit juice Coffee - Served in a mini french press Bloody Mary - With some minor alterations that were followed perfectly Cider Glazed Pork Benedict - Yolks running down the side, crispy side of potato's and melt in your mouth pork Stuffed French Toast - Stuffer with cranberries and apples, you say wha? Pork Hash - I didn't order this but I wish I had, Lindsey K. had this and I could have eaten her entire plate. The house made pork sausage was to die for. Make me some anytime! We had an outstanding meal with very good service and drinks. I really enjoyed getting to go out with my fellow Yelpers and have a nice brunch I think many more are to come. A new place every time let's say. With a drink a piece give or take the meal turning out being $20 or so a person which is a great price for the quality of food you get. I think an hour wait is long for some places and might go somewhere else, I think I would actually wait the hour for this brunch again! Duo Restaurant - Stuffed French toast - New American Near Me - Denver, Colorado

Enter Duo, another great brunch spot in the Highlands. My group of six descended on a cold yucky Sunday morning in April when it was snowing and sleeting. Duo was bustling bright and festive and warmed us up immediately. Festive napkins and table setting and the bright interior were cheerful on that morning. We had to ask for the waiter to come over finally after waiting for 10 minutes or so, so that we could get our coffees ordered. We all ordered separately and enjoyed everything we ate. I had the eggs Benedict which were exceptional, and other people tried the eggs in a basket and the specialty omelette and the scrambled eggs and hash. It was a delightful Sunday morning. I will go back to Duo in a heartbeat. read more
