I heard great things about Durkin's so my husband and I decided to drop in to satiate our pizza cravings. We found a seat and proceeded to order our meal at the front. The place isn't very large so if you go during a busy time, you may have to wait. We decided on the kitchen sink and the BBQ chicken pizza with a small Italian chopped salad. The food came out fairly quickly and we were eating in no time. The salad was tasty but had just a tad bit too many olives in it. However, it was refreshing and the Italian dressing had just the right amount of zest. The kitchen sink pizza came out first and then the barbecue chicken pizza came out soon after. Both were really delicious and piping hot. The crust on both pizzas were so soft and I couldn't help but eat most of it, although it did fill me up rather quickly. It would've been great dipped in ranch dressing. The only thing I would've probably changed about the barbecue chicken pizza is to add some red onions on top. The pizza looked pretty bland with just the barbecue sauce, chicken, and cheese. Simple but still a tasty pizza. We ordered a large in both pizzas so we had plenty of leftovers to take home with us. I work across the street and we were craving pizza one night so I decided to give this place a shot. I just ordered a large pepperoni and it came out pretty fast after ordering (about 10 minutes or so). During the drive home it smelled amazing and when I got home and opened the box, it looked amazing so I was really hoping to not be disappointed. Well, I wasn't! Durkin's Pizza has been my favorite for YEARS...until tonight. Normally I have to restrain myself from eating the whole pizza because the crust was that good. The crust tonight was very sub par. I only ate two slices and didn't even eat all of the crust. Gave it 2 stars instead of 1 since the middle was fine, but the crust is what made Durkins Pizza amazing. I was nearby this location while out of town on business from Tulsa, OK and stopped in. At first I wasn't quite sure what to do. There is open seating in the front of the restaurant and a counter at the back. My group sat down expecting a server, but after several minutes of no one coming by, I walked to the counter to find you order here first and the food is then delivered to your table. If there was a sign posted saying that, none of us saw it. Not a big deal, these things happen your first visit somewhere new. Once our order was taken the food came out quickly and was really rather yummy for a fast approach to pizza. The salads came out and look freshly made versus coming out of a bag, the calzone was huge and full of yummy flavors. 2 in our group had pizzas and they looked rather delicious as well. One thing that really stuck out to me was what occurred after an accident. When being served a pizza, our waiter allowed a personal size pizza to slide off of a plate and right into the lap of a gentleman in my group. Fortunately there were no injuries (the pizza was HOT, right out of the oven). The mess was cleaned up immediately and a new pizza was started. It turned out the owner was present, was also one of the people who came to clean up the mess and help us move to a new table. After all had settled the manager came out with a card and offered to pay for any dry cleaning bills and gave a free lunch to the gentleman who had the pizza spilled on him. So we were determined to find some delish pizza out in McKinney...yelped Durkin's and hoped that this would be the place. The ambiance was cute...lots of booths and the cashier was in the back. There are 2 tvs displaying the latest sports games. The service was super friendly and efficient. We ordered the largest pizza...half pepperoni, half sausage and mushrooms, cheese bread, and a Caesar salad. Our order was ready super fast and we were set to go. The cheese bread was the absolute highlight. My only complaint? They don't have fresh garlic here. The bread was incredibly cheesy and perfect...probably the best cheese bread I have ever had. The pizza? Well, it fell short. I was thrilled to see the super thin crust with a thick outer crust. Unfortunately, the thin crust couldn't hold the toppings. Well, there really weren't much toppings on the pizza in the first place. They were quite skimpy with the cheese and everything else. The thick outer crust was a little too hard for my liking. Durkin's Pizza in McKinney is a great little spot to hide and eat with the family. It's located on the outside of the Target shopping center next to a few shops. As soon as you walk into this location, it feels right. There's usually music playing and it smells yummy from the time you walk in. My family and I come here often and always love taking our time and sitting together for mealtime. I usually order more pizza than I can eat when I come here, but we take leftovers home for lunch the next day. My pizza is the meat pizza. It has pepperoni, hamburger, Italian sausage and bacon. There are lots of places that can bring a pizza to your house, but sometimes it's good to go someplace with yummy pizza fresh out of the over and just sit and enjoy the ambiance. That's what we do here. My kids love the spaghetti here, they can split one since the portions are awesome. The staff is always friendly and ready to answer any questions you may have. The kids feel relaxed here and we can easily put them at their own table so Mommy and Daddy can have talk time. Back to the food. I'm also a fan of the Greek salad and the Calzone here as well. I don't typically stray from pizza since I love it so much, but every once and a while I venture out. I've only lived in Texas for around 10 years or so, so it's nice to find a few spots that I can call my own and bring family to. This place lived up to its ratings. Pizza was good and the beer prices are not bad. I saw people coming and going to pick-up their orders. I'm guessing they know that this place gets packed at a certain time, especially dinner (we were here before 7pm). The place looked really nice and clean and the staffs are accommodating except for the guy who work the register who touches his hair all the time then handing you your drink cups.
