Two of the persons working there looked at it for five about minutes, wondering whether they can resize it - rather annoying to wait for that long for a simple yes or no. After the five minutes we told them the diamond was clarity enhanced, after which they immediately said they cannot possibly "touch it" because they would destroy it, all with a very condescending tone. There was some trouble with the first ring E. B. Yes, they are nice when you buy things and spend money, but wait until you need something repaired. My Tiffany ring was polished to skinny band no more signature knife edge after leaving the ring off to have the band straightened and the setting checked. I never asked for polish certainly did not expect to get a ring back with a different setting. Richard the owner was rude and when I politely asked for a refund of the repair cost he said "what's in it for me." He admitted the there were errors in the repair but did nothing to rectify the situation. read more

Let's take it back to a couple of years ago. Working in the financial district and being a little OCD, I needed someone to replace the battery on my watch in the area and I needed it done stat! Can't work without a watch, once again, that's the OCD side of me. So, with Long being across the street and having a couple of huge advertisement in my building lobby, I decided to go their first. They told me it was going to cost $60 and take two weeks for me to get my watch back. Umm, NO. First, I only paid $50 for the watch in Filene's Basement and hello, OCD here. Now, the Jeweler's building scares me, I feel like I'm in a swap meet. So, I popped in EBH, there, the battery on my watch was replaced as I wait and it only cost me $7. Bought a custom engagement ring. Designed it myself and it matched a similar stock setting. After a couple tries, I thought it was fine and took it home to propose. Since jewelry is not my thing, I didn't notice the prongs being different thickness which I noticed after 3 months when the diamond came loose! Long story short, I keep having to go back and the darn thing only lasts a few months. I'm on my fifth time having them fix something. I paid for platinum to avoid this crap but I'm seriously considering getting it appraised and tested to see if I really got what I paid for. I really just want my money back. My new fiancee and I went looking around at a few different jewelers to get a feel for what style of ring I liked. We were actually on our way to the jewelery exchange on Washington street and decided to stop in at EB Horn. I knew I was looking for a yellow canary diamond so we took a look inside. We were immediately directed to talk to Norm. He took his time to show us everything he had in stock and even at a few other styles that I liked that we could custom make with a yellow diamond. He was very helpful and knowledgeable. He wrote down on his business card the different styles I liked and I left it up to my fiancee to pick out what he liked. A few weeks after receiving my ring, we decided to take it in to get re-sized, again we dealt with Norm and he was very helpful in making sure everything was taken care of, I discussed maintaining the ring, which he said anything that it might need, we can just bring it in. Resizing only takes about a day to do, which is really nice. While I was there, I also needed my Movado watch repaired since I lost a pin that holds the clasps together. They were very helpful in fixing this no charge. Since it usually takes a few weeks to order in parts, they just took one of the clasps out of a new watch and replaced mine so I wouldn't have to wait! Two years ago my boyfriend bought me a beautiful Movado watch here for my birthday. The price was right and the service even better so when it was time to buy him a wedding gift I knew just who to call. I emailed EB Horn letting them know of what I wanted and within hours I heard back from one of the salesmen, Norm. I called him up and he was great on the phone. The item I wanted was priced a little higher than I could go but Norm was able to make it work within my budget. EB Horn is an authorized dealer so although they didn't have the item in stock they were able to order it directly from the company. Just yesterday Norm called to tell me that my gift had arrived (four days after the order was placed!). And just today the gift had already arrived at my home. It was stunning! After going to another jewelry store downtown on Washington St. for a wedding band and being unsuccessful, I walked into EB Horn and was immediately greeted by a woman who asked what I was looking for. I was looking for a customized Tacori ring I'd seen on the Internet (intertwined band of diamonds and sapphires), and she promptly told me to speak with Christine. Christine informed me that they didn't carry Tacori, but there was a Verragio ring they could customize to get exactly the ring I wanted. I tried on a similar ring in the store that had only diamonds, and to get the full effect of how it would look like once it was customized, Christine took out a marker and began marking the diamonds blue to represent the sapphires that I wanted. Not only that, but she advised me every step of the way, right down to the number of diamonds/sapphires I would need for the optimal look. She was very patient and knowledgeable, which I truly appreciated, as I'd never bought jewelry before, let alone something that would be so meaningful, that I really wanted to get right. The only snafu happened when I went to pick the ring up--they had misfiled the ring in the safe, so I waited an agonizing 20 minutes or so for them to find it (it was only a couple of days before my wedding at that point!), not knowing if they would. They also accidentally overcharged me $100 (Christine was on vacation when I went to pick up and pay for the ring), but this was immediately reconciled by a phone call from Christine as soon as she returned. As it turns out, another employee had written down the wrong cost. Overall, I had a very good experience at EB Horn and would highly recommend them to anyone, especially Christine, who went above and beyond to help me. I met him 15 years ago when my husband and I walked into EB Horn off the street to buy an annniversary band. he made us feel as though we were buying the Hope diamond and he gave us a great price. I trust Paul to give me a fair price when I sell pieces I know longer want and I have used him for estate appraisals. He arranged for EB Horn's silver expert to look at some pieces I inherited and mistakenly thought were antique. (Even thougth they were not worth much, the expert was gracious with his time, and generous with his knowledge) . The staff at EB Horn are very rude. I have gone in there for watch repairs and ring re-sizings over the years and they never get it right the first time. Then when they have to redo the work they get defensive and insulting in their attitudes. A little while ago I went in to look for a pre-owned Rolex, wanting to make a once in a life time purchase, and they were typically rude. I could not understand it. I was trying to buy an expensive watch, was polite, and they treated me as though they did not want my business. They passed me from one sales person to another. It made no sense since there were just a couple of people shopping and they had a multitude of staff talking to one another behind the display cases. I even went in for an appraisal and they refused to appraise it without even looking at it. I have learned my lesson and will never go back. I went in for an insurance replacement for my engagement ring that I had lost. The sales representative started showing me diamonds that the quality were inferior to what I had. I asked him to show me diamonds that would be of the same quality. In the end my husband decided to upgrade the size of the stone to 1.5 carat. we paid the difference of the value they got from my insurance for the upgrade. I recently tried to trade in my ring to upgrade to a bigger one I was told by several jewelers they would not be able to buy or trade my stone due to the fact that the ring looks like it's only 1 ct vs the 1.5 because of its cut. I feel I was mislead my EB HORN they sold me a diamond that has less value then what they charged and appraised it at. I tried calling the company and they told me they no longer have the paperwork from the ring they were replacing. I'm very disappointed with the service I got there and now am stuck with a ring I can't even trade or sell!!! read more
