I was raised going to Wisteria, Flamingo and all those old school places my dad loved to dine at. New Eagle reminds me of those times so I took my mom there for lunch. A friendly and mellow atmosphere, nothing fancy but comfortable. I was going to have the chicken tofu but when I saw that it was $17.50 for that I thought I might as well spend a bit more and get the prime rib for two meal. At $45 for complete meals that sounded good to the both of us. He prime rib was a bit fatty but it was so ono and came with soup or salad, drink and dessert. This place reminds me of the mom and pop restaurants that were plentiful in the 80's and 90's. The menu selection is big and you have so many choices to choose from. I really liked their Chinese style steamed fish, even though it wasn't moi. Again, I couldn't remember what my girlfriend had, but I know it was good because I cleaned up any leftovers she had! Japanese food items are NOT good!!!! Awhile ago, I chose Pork Tofu, and it tasted sour... so I told the waitress that something didn't taste right. She told me that's how it's supposed to taste. Must be a Filipino version, with vinegar. Tsukemono was also SOUR, like eating cole slaw. Tempura sauce also has vinegar, and is served cold. Last night my bf chose Miso Butterfish Teishoku. He got food poisoning and was sick afterwards. His tempura looked old. Butterfish was covered with miso sauce. Not like true Japanese-style food. Korean Spicy Pork was OK. We went for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. It was NOT crowded so why the SLOW service, who knows. From the moment we entered we did not recieve good treatment. The hostess was a young girl who acted as if we were bothering her because she had to stop playing w/her phone to seat us. Then we had a waitress that said we could not order something because they didn't have it - yet 2 other tables had it. One of the best local place to eat. We come from the Windward side to eat here. On Wednesday one of the special is Ox Tongue never had it before it's the best piece of beef I every had. I'm from the mainland and visit Oahu twice a year. When we land, this is the first stop for some good home cooking. They have daily specials and their Curry dishes are to die for. The particular type of curry they use is the best tasting curry around. You have to experience it. Reminds me of my moms curry. I have had several friends recommend this restaurant. We stopped in one day. The food is good for the price. Mostly fusion food with local style. Some Korean and Hawaii dishes. The atmosphere is clean and the staff is friendly. We had a steak and lobster meal which was very low priced. The desserts are great and made on site. Excellent variety of food selections and lunch menu is robust and very reasonably priced. The restaurant is fairly good sized and usually really busy for dinner, but lunch seems to be a moderate crowd. Overall, great bang for your buck. read more

My first time here and I was thoroughly impressed. We walked in with a party of 10 and got seated within a reasonable 5-10 minutes. We were given waters right away and I was amused by the menu selection. There were Sunday specials which included Beef Stew, Roast Pork, Roast Turkey, Hawaiian Salmon and a few others. The regular menu had Japanese Teishoku options, as well as traditional American foods. Their kids menu was lengthy too. I decided to go with the Ahi Sashimi and Teriyaki Beef combination, my husband got the Spicy Pork and my kids got saimin, udon and yakitori chicken off of the keiki menu. Everything was served in a timely manner by our awesome server, Ofelia. Everything tasted really, really good and I can't wait to go back to try something else! My wife and I went the escape room that is also in this complex and were in the mood for lunch, and this was the closest option. It turned out to be a cozy diner with traditional finer food as well as Japanese and Hawaiian classics. My wife got a fried oyster sandwich, and it was overflowing with delicious oysters, and I got a perfectly cooked pork katsu with very generous portions. The owner of the restaurant sent me a very nice note that he'd been away on military service for a few years and was not able to manage the restaurant the way he wanted to. Hopefully, the restaurant will have a new start now that he's back. read more

Call me crazy, but as a little kid I always had this idea about New Eagle Cafe having the same feel as Cheers (and yes, I did refer to the show). Everyone should know your name as soon as you enter those doors...right? I'm beginning to see my idea come to life. I dined here once as a kid...and did not come back until last year, where my foodie boyfriend decided to take me here. Apparently him and his father drop by frequently to have family meals. I pretty much trust his food suggestions...and you'll probably see this as a major theme to my food reviews. Haha Anyway, here are my take-aways from New Eagle Cafe: - All types of food are served - you don't have to settle for something old or something outside of your comfort zone. And there's always room for substitution and combination. - The decor ain't the greatest, but it's that cozy feel the workers exude... I can probably stay here for hours and it's pretty chill. - Pricing's not bad. - Parking can be a bit tedious (especially in the front). Big cars/trucks - beware. - The only thing my boyfriend and I come for is the Prime Rib for 2. It includes drink, soup or salad, and dessert. He usually gets a double cut while I opt for the single - it always leaves us STUFFED (altogether it comes to $35-40). - DESSERT OF CHOICE: Pump.kin.Crunch...Pumpkin Crunch Pie... PUMPKIN CRUNCH PIE. I really do die after this meal. - If you're EXTRA LUCKY, the owner/manager of the restaurant will walk around to the tables. He's such a cool guy. Especially with the tray of BUTTER BISCUITS he passes out to his customers. We were extra(2x) lucky this past week before he did two rounds! He really does go the extra length to take care of his patrons and newbies. I remember going here about 10 years ago when my husband and I were in the area and needed a place to sit down and have breakfast and talk about our new house. I remember it being a very mediocre experience and that's probably why it's been a decade between visits. Well, after naming a dozen different places to go have a quick bite, we ended up at the New Eagle Cafe last night for dinner. I decided to have the Reuben, my husband had some short ribs with Spanish sauce and my daughter decided on a spinach salad. Oh my god what a disappointment! My husband made the choice to go there so he downplayed the badness of his meal. His short ribs had no coloring it was like boiled beef with the sauce poured over it. My Reuben was just sliced formed roast beef that had been boiled and put on some bread with sauerkraut. The whole thing smelled like your mixing bowl does after scrambling an egg--pew! I barely got through half the sandwich although I was quite hungry. My daughter's bowl of spinach and strawberries consisted mostly of wilted spinach with a strange Asian dressing. Suffice it to say we quickly wiped our hands and got out of there. We had some instant ramen when we got home to settle our queasy stomachs. Never going there again. read more
