Some of my favorite spots to dine as I travel about the US and this little place has become on of my favorites when in the Bangor/Brewer area. This tiny spot on the bank of the Penobscot River is just too cool. Here's why! 1. The food is amazing. From blueberry pancakes and lobster omelettes for breakfast to AYCE haddock in the evenings. I have yet to try a dish I didn't like. 2. It is a total and complete local dive. When you walk in there is nothing fancy or over the top. There are a dozen or so tables with a small breakfast bar area. Decor is simple and doesn't take from the scenic view of the river. It really is something to see! 3.The service!! Everyone is super friendly and for me that carries a lot of weight. Down home service with a smile! If you're looking for high end frills this definitely is not your place but if you want great food at a good price stop in and dine like a local! read more

I came for lobster and I got lobster! Had the stew and the roll along with onion rings (which probably weren't necessary). Waited about 30-45 minutes outside and it was very hot that day. Luckily there was some shade where the fam was able to wait while I was near the door to hear my name. The restaurant is small but every table was full. Lobster is the star of the menu but there are plenty of things to eat, burgers, sandwiches, platters, kids platters, etc. The lobster was fresh and both the roll and the stew were very good. Service was fine and we enjoyed the meal. read more

We heard so much about this restaurant that we thought we would stop. We wish we had driven past! The people were pleasant but that was the end of the good experience! The food was terrible. I had a lobster roll and my friend had fried clams. AWFUL! The breading was so bad on the clams and the lobster tasted like it had been frozen. Also to say it's on the rivers edge. You couldn't see the River for the dirty windows. We were really looking forward to a great experience. We live in Maine and are from Maine so we know good seafood. This was not it! Not only the most expensive meal we had in a year also worst. We were in and out in half an hour! We felt like we had been Street mugged! read more

They hide their prices... ended up paying $30+ for a lobster roll. Which is fine, but the thing was extremely underwhelming. It was a some dry lobster on a thin piece of white bread... NOTHING like their pictures. I feel pretty cheated by the experience haha. Congrats, you scammed me for 30 bucks. I won't be coming back. read more

BEST LOBSTER ROLL EVER! I've tried several lobster rolls and this one stands out above the rest. I love that the space itself isn't fancy or too much on decor. Feels like a proper homestyle lobster shack. I was debating take out when I saw the line, but one of the staff members who overheard my pondering let me know that the take away wait was longer than table service. Wait staff was great. The server was the type of no nonsense person I admire. Economical with time and words, but the love and care was there. The roll itself was stuffed with fresh lobster. So much so, that I asked for an additional grilled roll to house the lobster overflow! There was just a dollop of mayo to hold it all together without overpowering the lobster. My only regret was that this was the first lobster roll I tried while in Maine. All that followed paled in comparison. Worth the visit, worth the wait. I'll soon return. read more

TLDR - I'd go again. Lobster roll. Food: everything on the menu looked tasty. We enjoyed the lobster roll and had lemon meringue and strawberry shortcake for dessert (if I had to pick one I'd go with s-short cake).All very good. Get here while in Maine. It may be a bit out of your way, but man oh man, you'll be glad you did for this is an authentic Maine experience. We walk in and were the youngest people by 3 or 4 decades. This is where the old school Mainers get dirty on seafood. You know why? It's simple, damn good and cheap. The lobster roll or should I say platter since it spilled over onto the plate there was so much lobster was $16.50. It came with so-so fries. But you're not here for the fries, you're here for the real stuff. The roll was all lobster, a bit of mayo on a buttered roll. Nothing crazy, but oh so good. So. Much. Lobster. Since I mean when in Maine we ordered up the fried clam bellies and scallops. DAYUM. Fresh whole clam bellies and huge scallops, breaded and deep fried. So bad, yet so, so, good. The fries weren't anything awesome, so don't waste the calories. Totally the best bang for your buck for some down home seafood eating. Located in an old-school shanty on the river, it's definitely a great pit stop. Do it. A huge thanks to Yelp for leading me to this gem! read more

It doesnt get any better than this! No, seriously, it doesn't! Really small restaurant.. 4 booths, 4 tables, and 6 bar stools. Staff consists of 1 cook and 1 waitress. Food is very reasonably priced, For my visit there was an all you can eat fish (haddock) dinner for $9.95. The platter came to the table with 6, count them 6 pieces of fish and a truckload of fries all for under $10. The pot roast dinner was a few dollars less but had enough meat to feed a small African country, tasty green beans and a small baked potato. Of course we had to have a dessert (much later consumed)... a slice of pie, and by slice I mean 1/4 of it. I cannot wait to see what breakfast is like!!! read more

I stopped in here for lunch before heading to Bangor airport for my flight home. Parking might be a bit hard to find during lunch time. Fortunately I was able to get a spot just as someone was pulling out. Otherwise, it was completely full. It was a small little operation inside with most of the tables occupied. Since I was dining solo, I just found a seat at the bar where I got a clear view of the action in the kitchen. Their menu stated that they have the biggest and best lobster roll around. So of course that's what I ordered. It didn't take that long for it to come out. *Lobster roll* There was way more chunks of delicious lobster meat than the roll could hold! They mixed the lobster with light mayo so what you're tasting is the lobster meat. It came with fries, coleslaw, and a pickle. The fries had a hint of seafood to it, so I'm guessing that they used the same oil that they used to fry up their seafood. I like it. Overall, this was a nice stop before going home. We don't get lobster this good in Southern California. Yet it was quite affordable especially for the amount of lobster meat that they used for the roll. It was definitely the biggest that I've eaten. read more

Was looking for a place to grab some lobster roll, and it turns out that this is one of the most popular places to get them...lucky me! They are generous with the servings, and include cole slaw and fries with the lobster roll order. I am such a big fan of lobster rolls ever since I moved to the East Coast now. Went here the next morning with friends, and had the lobster omelette, which was also good. I'm glad I tried this place out for lobster rolls first at the beginning of my trip to Maine, because I eventually got tired of eating lobster errday. read more

Great lobster roll and great service. Went based on the review as we wanted one last lobster roll during our NE trip and it did not disappoint. Lobster roll was perfect, not a huge bun but a ton of perfectly prepared lobster. They let the lobster be the star, very little dressing. Also enjoyed an order of surprisingly good onion rings. The fries that came with the lobster roll were not special but given how great the lobster was did not really care. What also surprised me was how pleasant the service was. Usually in a small, busy place (which probably gets a decent amount of tourists) you would be rushed through but not the case here. Both servers were very pleasant and continuously refilled our drinks. Just a great experience. read more

History

Established in 1955.

Constructed by Raymond Nickerson in 1955, the diner operated seasonally for 30 years. Velma Nickerson did all the cooking and was known for her huge lobster rolls and delicious pies. Yankee magazine, in their February 1983 edition, honored Velma for her raspberry pie. The Pine Cone Diner is now known as the Eagle's Nest Restaurant. We still serve the gigantic portions. I became owner in 1987 and renamed it to the Eagle's Nest Restaurant because of the Eagles that nest in the trees along the river. The restaurant is located right on the banks of the beautiful Penobscot River. I started in business in 1976 delivering sandwiches to mom & pop stores in the Bangor, Brewer area. That soon resulted in me opening a sandwich shop in Old Town. Later we buiilt a new restaurant in Old Town (Guay's Family Restaurant & Sandwich shop. I was fortunate enough to have a great cook from which I learned a great deal. I owned that establishment for 10 years. I have owned Eagle's Nest for 26 years.

We had a few items off the kids' menus and the chicken fingers were better than the usual. Salads were generous and fresh, burger was delicious. Service was super friendly and prompt. I always try to dine local when I can, but this hotel restaurant was just the ticket the night we dined.

The customers varied from older couples to dad and their kid to people in their early to mid 30's.

I have enjoyed coming here for years. Today I had a horrible experience with the man who was the Host/waiter. I will NOT be returning. I arrived at 520pm walked in and said there were 5 of us. My family and I had 3 separate cars and I arrived first. He said he could not seat us until everyone arrived. Even though there were 3 empty tables and at the very longest it would be about 10 mins before everyone arrived. I said ok thanks you and I stood there waiting. At 535 2 more of my family members arrived and the other two were just about 2 mins away. So when my mom and niece walked in all the sudden he VERY rudely said they closed at 6 and essentially didn't want us there. The 15 mins I was standing there waiting he could have told me this but did not. I was so shocked at how rudely we were treated. Come to find out when my daughter and her boyfriend arrived, they told me a few weeks ago the same exact thing happened to them by this same rude host and it wasn't even 4pm. Now this is a small establishment and when you have just one host and they act like that, why would anyone go back. We took our business to Angelors and had a delicious meal and were treated with hospitality. Your service has gone down hill and I will not spend another penny there. I found the Eagles Nest on Google while working up in Maine for the week and craving a genuine lobster roll. I was specifically looking for a local, no-frills spot--and I was not disappointed! This charming little restaurant is literally the size of a shed, tucked right on the banks of the Penobscot River. It has that perfect hidden-gem feel with cozy seating and river views. Yes, you may have to wait a little while (it's popular for good reason), but believe me, it's absolutely worth it. Unfortunately we didn't have a very good experience. We were seated and sat there waiting while everyone around us was waited on. Once we finally placed our order and got our dinner it was okay but not great. But the worst part of the dinner was the waitress. She was downright rude and provided some of the worst service we've had in years. We don't plan on returning anytime soon. It's too bad because we used to love the lobster rolls. read more

This is a small, diner type restaurant with excellent comfort food. There's a great table with a view of the river - if you get lucky, that might just be yours! We've been for breakfast, lunch and takeout for dinner - my bf loves the fried seafood - and we have had a great meal and experience every time. This place is awesome! It is very small, nice and cozy, with a classic atmosphere for the roadside restaurant, with wooden booths and tables. They have a really friendly service and fresh, homemade food. Best lobster ever! Very good fried seafood as well. Good fish sandwich and huge burgers.
