Oh. My. God. We hit up this place on our way to the airport in Bangor and I am SO glad that we did. It was our last stop before heading back home from a week long trip to Maine. We hadn't had a lobster roll yet and decided that this was the spot! We walked in and there are a couple cooks in the kitchen and one server doing everything else. My kind of place :) The service was friendly and fast. There was probably about a half a pound of fresh lobster meat on a buttery, warm, toasted roll. There was a hefty amount of hot fries and some tasty coleslaw as well. All this for about $22! My mouth is watering just writing this review read more

Wow!!! That's really all I can say. I've been to a lot of seafood restaurants in Maine and across the country and this was by far superior. The fish platter can feed a family of four! It's huge. The lobster grilled cheese, huge chunks of lobster! Amazing read more

CLAW MEAT! heavenly, delicious, red-and-white-speckled chunks of lobster claw meat! as a californian, i'm used to slivers and cubes of lobster flesh in our so-called lobster rolls. i have been taken to lobster church with the amazingly simple and tasty lobster roll at this spot. friendly service, beautiful view of the penobscot river, fresh-from-the-fryer fries, and that lobster roll. love. read more

Tried this place because we found it online with "only in your state, Maine" on "The best places you haven't eaten at." This place is small and busy. 5pm on a Saturday with a 20 minute wait. We chose to sit at their 4 person counter and was seated immediately. Our waitress was very nice and our food was fresh and delicious. The burger is fresh (not frozen) and huge! As were the toppings on it. The lobster roll was delicious with just the right amount of mayo. This place is about 40 minutes from where we are but we'll certainly be back when in the area. read more

If you're looking for fresh seafood, generous portion's, and friendly people, this is the place! The lobster roll 10 out of 10. Scallops and clams, perfectly fried. Don't bother with the hyped commercial spots. This place checks all the boxes. Can't wait to go back! Thank you!! read more

Whenever I visit family in Maine I go out of my way to get a lobster roll from Eagles Nest. The portions of lobster are very generous. The fries are excellent too! They are always quick with their service and friendly. I generally order takeout, but have eaten in too, and the ambiance is fine if it isn't too crowded. read more

My husband said they had the best lobster roll he had during our trip to Maine. I had a very yummy grilled cheese, along with lobster stew. While there were loads of chunks of lobster in the stew, it was rubbery. Tiny place, so be prepared to wait- and they'll turn you away if you come too close to closing time. We did watch eagles out of the back window! read more

Spent the weekend in Bar Harbor eating lobster rolls but this was the best we had. Just generous amounts of lobster. It's quite busy and only 7 tables available. But worth the wait. Oh and the fries were amazing. read more

Found this place here on Yelp and the reviews do not lie. The food is great. The staff are friendly and helpful. Pretty spot on the river. It ain't fancy but with food and service this great, it doesn't have to be. Get some lobster and pie and smile all the way home. read more

Stop here while in Bangor or on your to wherever you are headed. Fantastic meal. The lobster roll was the best we had the entire week in Maine. The rolls in Bar Harbor didn't even come close. Tons of meat and a nicely toasted bun. The fries and all the sides were excellent. Not far from the airport. Note: The bathroom was yucky so hold it for another stop. read more

Three of us split a seafood platter and it was more than enough. The cole slaw was good. The fried clams and haddock were great. I didn't like the scallops as well as the clams and haddock. I think they could have been cooked just a tiny bit more. The French fries were good. I'll definitely go back. read more

Lobster Rolls & Seafood

History

Established in 1955.

Constructed by Raymond Nickerson in 1955, the diner operated seasonally for 30 years. Velma Nickerson did all the cooking and was known for her huge lobster rolls and delicious pies. Yankee magazine, in their February 1983 edition, honored Velma for her raspberry pie. The Pine Cone Diner is now known as the Eagle's Nest Restaurant. We still serve the gigantic portions. I became owner in 1987 and renamed it to the Eagle's Nest Restaurant because of the Eagles that nest in the trees along the river. The restaurant is located right on the banks of the beautiful Penobscot River. I started in business in 1976 delivering sandwiches to mom & pop stores in the Bangor, Brewer area. That soon resulted in me opening a sandwich shop in Old Town. Later we buiilt a new restaurant in Old Town (Guay's Family Restaurant & Sandwich shop. I was fortunate enough to have a great cook from which I learned a great deal. I owned that establishment for 10 years. I have owned Eagle's Nest for 26 years.

Yes - the indoor seating is pretty tight in general. Accommodating a party of 7 is possible but I bet at a peak time like that it would be very hard.

I have enjoyed coming here for years. Today I had a horrible experience with the man who was the Host/waiter. I will NOT be returning. I arrived at 520pm walked in and said there were 5 of us. My family and I had 3 separate cars and I arrived first. He said he could not seat us until everyone arrived. Even though there were 3 empty tables and at the very longest it would be about 10 mins before everyone arrived. I said ok thanks you and I stood there waiting. At 535 2 more of my family members arrived and the other two were just about 2 mins away. So when my mom and niece walked in all the sudden he VERY rudely said they closed at 6 and essentially didn't want us there. The 15 mins I was standing there waiting he could have told me this but did not. I was so shocked at how rudely we were treated. Come to find out when my daughter and her boyfriend arrived, they told me a few weeks ago the same exact thing happened to them by this same rude host and it wasn't even 4pm. Now this is a small establishment and when you have just one host and they act like that, why would anyone go back. We took our business to Angelors and had a delicious meal and were treated with hospitality. Your service has gone down hill and I will not spend another penny there. And appeartly this man is the managers son, needless to say when my daughter emailed her about the incident she was less then receptive read more

I found the Eagles Nest on Google while working up in Maine for the week and craving a genuine lobster roll. I was specifically looking for a local, no-frills spot--and I was not disappointed! This charming little restaurant is literally the size of a shed, tucked right on the banks of the Penobscot River. It has that perfect hidden-gem feel with cozy seating and river views. Yes, you may have to wait a little while (it's popular for good reason), but believe me, it's absolutely worth it. The lobster roll was fantastic--fresh, generous, and everything you hope for in Maine. If you're in the Brewer area and want authentic, down-home seafood without the tourist crowds, this is the place. Highly recommend! read more

Unfortunately we didn't have a very good experience. We were seated and sat there waiting while everyone around us was waited on. Once we finally placed our order and got our dinner it was okay but not great. But the worst part of the dinner was the waitress. She was downright rude and provided some of the worst service we've had in years. We don't plan on returning anytime soon. It's too bad because we used to love the lobster rolls. read more

This is a small, diner type restaurant with excellent comfort food. There's a great table with a view of the river - if you get lucky, that might just be yours! We've been for breakfast, lunch and takeout for dinner - my bf loves the fried seafood - and we have had a great meal and experience every time. I hear they have the best Lobster Rolls in town, but I don't really do lobster... so you'll have to find out for yourself! read more

This place is awesome! It is very small, nice and cozy, with a classic atmosphere for the roadside restaurant, with wooden booths and tables. They have a really friendly service and fresh, homemade food. Best lobster ever! Very good fried seafood as well. Good fish sandwich and huge burgers. The fried haddock was some of the best I've had anywhere. And you may get a table overlooking the river. You wont regret visiting it! read more

Definitely the best lobster meet in the area. Very small and always crowded. I'm more of a fish and fresh veggie diet, but most everything is deep fried except for a few select main seafood dishes. A nice treat once in a while read more

My favorite restaurant ever. I get the seafood platter every time and have had the lobster roll, all exceptionally good. I am a big eater and always end up bringing enough home for lunch the next day. Nice people too. read more

Really misled by the price. Advertised prices for the lobster roll was $20.99, but the price was $31 when we got there. Will not go back.

The waitress was Megan and she was all smiles and very friendly, and there's a small army of staff working their tuchis off on Sunday, which is when I dropped by. Super generous portions, which seems to be the standard for this region of Maine. I started with the basic Maine dish of seafood chowder. Helen's seafood chowder is a rich, creamy soup that celebrates the fresh flavors of the area. Tender chunks of haddock, clams, shrimp, and scallops are simmered with potatoes, onions, and celery in a white thickish broth seasoned with butter, herbs, and perhaps a touch of black pepper? Every spoonful was hearty, comforting, and filled with the sweet, briny taste of the sea and packed with chunks of seafood. Definitely Maine style comfort food! Once again, I went for the fish and chips and that was a hit! Flaky, fresh Haddock coated in a light, crispy golden batter and fried to perfection. Served alongside hot, hand-cut fries, this classic favorite of mine was (as usual) accompanied by creamy coleslaw, tangy tartar sauce, and a fresh lemon wedge for the perfect finishing touch. I Both were good. I was going to get hard ice cream but the counter girl didn't seem to know which ice creams were GF, so I opted for soft serve instead. The outdoor seating is good.
