This awesome little joint is easy to miss off of Orchard Lake Road just south of Commerce Road and north of Pine Lake Road. It's sign is in Red lettering with a rooster on the end... at least I think it's a rooster! It's a small place and the line is long but the staff is great and food moves fast. A really affable and good humored staff I must say. The patrons for the most part are great too and quarters inside are tight so talking to your neighboring tables is easy. The early birds definitely weren't eating any worms!! The food here smells and tastes great! My friend ordered the eggs and hash browns but I decided to get the Egg Florentine (because if you follow me you know I'm an Eggs Benedict girl) and of course since I was wearing my friendly yoga pants which said "go ahead girl, I got you": I ordered a side of bacon and a side 4 small blueberry pancakes. I mean breakfast is the most important meal of the day, don't judge me Judy. The pancakes were pretty good and the blueberries were fresh. The bacon was cooked just right and not too crispy. My eggs Florentine... let me say this, the flavors were there. Really there. The hollandaise sauce was really light and flavorful, the spinach was cooked well, the muffin was not tough but my eggs were poached too long and not runny. The waitress who was so great offered to get me new eggs but considering how busy they were, I passed and still ate it. It was still yummy but giving 4 stars instead of 5 for that reason. I have passed this restaurant almost every day for my whole life. Finally deciding to try out this place, the experience was just as I had expected, average breakfast food in a small, packed area. The food is good for people who enjoy an average, large breakfast. The workers were very kind and quick. With a packed restaurant, the chefs were still able to serve us within 10 minutes of ordering. If you do not mind waiting about 20 minutes in a crowded, small area and being packed into a small table, this place would be good for those who do not feel like making breakfast at home. read more

We used to eat here fairly regularly but not after today. I ordered a julienne salad without Swiss cheese, of which I am highly allergic. Good thing I checked because it did have Swiss cheese. We had to switch around our orders and was told the kitchen mixed it up. When I told the waitress how serious it could be for me, she said she didn't bring it out. This place does it right. From the outside you would never suspect how good this joint is. Despite an unhealthy obsession with roosters, this restaurant brings it. First off, they have an orange juice machine that is a thing of beauty. It takes oranges and turns then into liquid gold. I may be exaggerating just a little, but it is still freaking good. On top of the orange juice, they have a wonderful selection of classic breakfast and lunch fare. I am particularly partial to the skillets. Moreover, what sets this place apart from most solid breakfast or brunch joints is how much of their menu is made from scratch. You have to love a place that has house made sausages. You may be able to find trendier restaurant doing breakfast, but you'll be hard pressed to find a restaurant that is better than Early Bird. Unfortunately this restaurant need to expand more bigger for this tiny diner even it gets overcrowded every weekends whenever we are in town; it always has been difficult to get good seat for us when it comes for brunch time everything got too busy over there...... My family and I have been coming here for breakfast and lunch for a while now. Their specials always sound amazing and it's hard to pick what to get. I have had their skillets before and they are very good! I also LOVE the biscuits. This time all of us got the mushroom spinach and cheese omelette special. I got mine with the potatoes and a biscuit and it really hit the spot. I never noticed before but their potatoes are superthin which means they can get really crispy, which I love. In my opinion, this is a great little place to come for breakfast/brunch. read more

Been going to this Early Bird for years. Here are a few facts about it that remain indisputable: 1) The service is TOP NOTCH 2) The food is fresh, the portions are generous and always good. They aren't trying to reinvent the wheel with their selections, but there's plenty to choose & all done right. 3) It's very well priced. As the "brunch market" spots continue to spread, quality thin out & prices teeter on obnoxious, having a local, long tenured staple like Early Bird around the corner, after surviving COVID & coming out of it better than ever is a blessing. read more

We've been coming here since we moved in the neighborhood 16 years ago. The food is still good. The customer service is great. I get the traveler's special and my husband gets the Hobo skillet. Whenever I visit, one of the last things I utter through my wine breath before I stagger down to his basement guest bedroom: "what time are we going to that breakfast place in the morning?" Super small space, super packed, and super friendly service. And OMG, the freshest, hottest food you'll ever hope to enjoy on one of those "morning afters." This time I had the veggie skillet, hold the broccoli: hash-browns, mushrooms, onions, and green peppers with my requested over medium eggs draped on top. Damn it! So good! Came here a few weeks ago, thought it was pretty good! I ordered a chorizo skillet and it was HUGE. I would definitely split it next time! Best part- it was pretty inexpensive. Just left the Early Bird, known locally as a breakfast gem on OLR in Keego, this simple yet pleasureful tasting experience is a must visit. Don't go on a weekend, or you'll make the line longer for me. The waitstaff are fast and friendly and the food is delivered fast. The breakfast skillets are a lot of food and well worth it, but my fav is the eggwhite Mediterranean scramble. Of course all the classics are made here, but the bacon is a crisp welcoming to pair with anything. I've been here for lunch as well, and if you haven't tried lunch, you are missing out. You know a place is good if people wait in a line that's out the door to get in. That's the case at Early Bird Cafe and I will admit.....I've happily lined up to eat there many times. Their breakfast and lunch food is so fresh and delicious it will keep you coming back no matter what! It is a tiny building but there is a large sign you will see from the road. Just pull in and park behind the building. It's first come, fist serve - no reservations are accepted. If there is a line just wait until you get to the front, no need to put your name on a list or anything. They are open from 7am-3pm everyday excepts Sunday they open at 8am. Prices are extremely reasonable at Early Bird, everything on the menu is under $10. They always have unique breakfast specials and as I mentioned before - their food is delish! I recommend the breakfast skillets (they are HUGE), the fresh squeezed OJ and the sandwiches. Though Early Bird is small it is has a family atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. This place is on my way to work so I try to stop by whenever I start at 8:30 or 9 am on a weekday. The staff is very friendly, the food is good, and they are always quick so even if I'm in a hurry I can still get in and out within 20 mins. I get the mini breakfast special which is a really good deal and the perfect amount of food for me on a work day. I also get a coffee for there and a coffee to go, which is great bc I hate making coffee at home. Depending on when I start work I usually get there between 7:45 and 8; there are other people there but I never have to wait to be seated and everything is still fast. It's a great way to start my day and it makes me excited to wake up and leave in the morning! The only thing is be careful pulling in an out of the parking lot because one entrance has a lot of pot holes and the other is usually partially blocked by someone parking (but maybe that's just the time of day I go lol). read more
