Not the best service, not the best food, but it's close to Rockville town center. First service, pretty cold and non existent. In the past we used to order a lot of drinks and food but we stopped because it took too long to get our orders and of course the drinks are super overpriced. We came back last weekend and we only ordered waters and a few bubble teas and it took over an hour before we got our drinks. The karaoke machines are super glitchy. For instance, you have to wait a few precious seconds before the system registers. You can scan a sketchy QR code to see the song queue but honestly, I don't trust it. Im not this biggest fan of karaoke but I have to admit i had a blast here. Clean and the service was really good. There were a couple times there was a slight language barrier but we were able to get the desired communication to order our food. The food was delicious. The overall space here is confusing if you don't know in advance but there are a bunch of businesses sharing parts of the physical space, and parts of the menu. There is a tea shop that you will supply the tea drinks you order, a Chinese noodle/dumpling place for both dine in and takeout (dine in=East Grill Karaoke, takeout counter=East Dumpling House) and Nosh which is a Chinese / Korean BBQ restaurant. When you enter the main door (not takeout door to the right) they will ask if you want Nosh or East Grill. East Grill has a dining room to the left, Nosh to the right, with a large bar and tables near a karaoke stage in between. I never saw anyone actually doing karaoke in that open space so not sure how that works but that is supposed to be part of East Grill. I've reviewed Nosh separately, today I'll talk about East. They have a lot of dumplings, noodles and skewers on the menu. We tried one of each. I really enjoyed the lamb skewer and would order that again. I also really like the noodle dish, but I can't remember its name (szechuan style or something like that maybe?). They were tangy and the noodles themselves were thick and fresh and delicious. Would definitely order these again. The dumplings we tried were also very good, probably not Bob's Shanghai level good, but not too far behind either. I would probably come here to try things they don't have at Bobs in future unless I was craving and Bob's was too long a wait. Its not shade on East, but more that Bob's is only a block away and just that good. The bartender has never heard of bourbon but if you like soju or sweet cocktails there is plenty to enjoy. I am not thrilled with the tea shop unfortunately; my fresh fruit yogurt tea had no detectable yogurt, and on a previous visit I ordered a wintermelon milk tea and got what I think was a plain green jasmine milk tea. Wintermelon is extremely distinctive, if you have had it you know what I mean. Oh, and they validate parking but on both visits the gate was up when we left. What a fun place to get your karaoke fix in. It does help to have someone who speaks Mandarin though in your party. Make reservations in advance. I wish it was easier to find music, but I find if you do a search instead of using their charts you can find your songs. There is good catalog of English songs with some new latest songs. Just an update: thought things couldn't get worse. We had different people in our group, so different cards were used. A couple cards had duplicated charges. When we went to pay for the karaoke room $200 she swiped the car and said it with her chest this card no work. Yeah of course, you charged the room 3 times. Thank god we got an email for suspicious activity. CHECK YOUR CARD BILLS. Woo wee. This is one of those places you go ONCE but best to just avoid this place in general, if you still decide to go, good luck. Somethings I wish I knew before going. EVERYTHING HAVE A 20% tip automatically added. Karaoke is $60+tax+%20 tip (automatically added) so about $75 a hour. Make sure you leave on time you tell them 2 hours, they won't tell you your time is up. Bathrooms are grosssssssss. Bottle Water is like $3 (+20% tip, again) and it's Members Mark water (Sams club purified water) literally it's $4.28 for 40 bottles at sams club. (11 cents a bottle, 2,7000% markup). THEY CHARGING DISNEY LAND PRICES HILARIOUS. Food is ehhhhhh, okay. Drinks were decent/average. Service was fast and attentive. The song selection is okay, don't really have any new songs. We had went here for my friend's 30th birthday. It seems like a more up-scale karaoke room. We had booked the largest room that could around ~35 people for 2 hours, which was the minimum amount of time you could book the room. If you're hosting a party here, they could only take two credit cards maximum. For our group, we ended up having one person pay for all of the food and one person paid for the room. We then had whoever ended up ordering extra entrees to Venmo the food person. Regarding the room, there was definitely enough space for 25 people. We had two mics in the room. I had requested some musical instruments or something we could hit on for the guests who did not want to sing, but they unfortunately did not have anything. I had ordered pork belly with vegetables. It ended up being around ~20$. Flavorful but I wish it had a crunch to it. Probably wouldn't order it again since nothing really stood out from the dish. I have been to a few different karaoke places and I think this one was my favorite. What differentiates this place is that their karaoke machine/ computer was much easier to navigate and use than other places I have been. They had it set to English for our group which made it much easier. Other karaoke places did not do this which made it very confusing to figure out how to pick songs. Also, this location had super cute lights and decorations in their restaurant and mini karaoke rooms. They also had tambourines and maracas as well as 2 microphones for the room of 8 people. It would be nice if user could sort alphabetically. We noticed at one point when Maroon Five's "Sugar" came on the lyrics were off. Food-I ordered dumplings (order comes in 8) and a shrimp spring roll. The dumplings were good but small in size. They have chili paste, vinegar, and soy sauce. I ordered a shrimp spring roll and my colleague ordered a veggie spring roll. They brought both orders out on the same plate and we got each other's roll so we sent it back and asked them to put them on separate plates. My shrimp roll was disappointing. They put one small shrimp and all I tasted was mostly veggies. Ambience - we had room 101. It was decorative and the table had a lazy susan which was nice to spin if you ordered food. They also had short padded seats which is nice if the sofa is full. There are two screens that display the lyrics and three microphones are provided. Tips - 1) if you stay past the allotted time you reserve you will be charged extra. 2) food and drinks must be paid in cash and on one bill. The menu for East Grill Karaoke is the exact same as East Dumpling House, so I feel that my review applies to both parts of the restaurant. I've been eating at East Dumpling House since 2017, at least 10+ times total over the years. Their food is really fabulous with housemade dumplings and a big tasty menu. I've also held an office party of 50 people and a birthday party of 20 people with their karaoke rooms and had a blast! Great food, karaoke, and decor. They will even set up your room for the party with water bottles, extra cups, disposable plates for sharing/cake, and cutlery. As for music, this is a proper KTV joint with songs in Mandarin, Japanese, Korean, English, etc. They also have a beautiful bar in the front of the karaoke side of the restaurant. Just a couple of small cons: The karaoke menu takes a little bit of sleuthing to figure out, so don't be afraid to ask for help. Also, sometimes only one mic will work, so I think the mic connectivity could be a little better. Overall, the food is always amazing, and the rooms are beautiful! Here for Karaoke... Prices are CRAZY! Just asking for water, regular tap water is unavailable for karaoke. Customers have to pay $3 for a bottle of water. $3!!! No water is available free. The service button is useless... You have to physically have a person to go out and self serve.. I tried buying a bottle of water and asked for cups and they said that option is not available. Terrible. A bottle of liquor is like 120-200$. OVERPRICED! Yeah it is a karaoke place but for real tho. Rooms are decently priced. $60 for a small room for 2 hours. Parking: They offer 3 hours Validate Parking up front. Parking, no worries, there are tons of parking in the morning and afternoon. Room: (was in a small room) there are 2 screens. Decent. Sofas? Its on the wayyy too soft side. I sink in the leather couches. The pillows had a lot of dust. This restaurant is the sister restaurant to East Dumpling House. They have the same menu. I'm glad they opened this place though. More seats for everyone who wants those handmade noodles, dumplings and amazing Chinese food! I also love that they have private karaoke rooms in the back. I have yet to try this, but I am really looking forward to getting a group together to do this. Definitely need a reservation for the karaoke rooms. Favorite foods here: Dumplings: My favorites are the pork and chive and the pork and sour cabbage. I like them boiled. My husband prefers them pan-fried. I also like the triple delight steamed dumplings. I love how the dumpling wrapper has the texture of handmade dough. The fillings are very flavorful as well. Noodles: Zhajiang mian! Can't go wrong with this classic! I also adore the pork chop noodle soup. The handmade noodles have such a perfect bite to them! Vegetarian: Eggplant in garlic sauce. Just like mom used to make! Meat: Lamb skewers! My husband eats like 6 of these with a bowl of rice. The cumin flavor reminds me of growing up in Taiwan. They come spicy though! Went here on a Friday night with my family. Since my company was doing a karaoke night, I decided to dine here beforehand. We decided to sit in East grill's dining room instead of east dumpling house right across because this place had more room (East dumpling house and this place are by the same owner and some of the food you order at east grill is cooked at east dumpling and brought across to east grill). Now although I've always had a decent service at east dumpling, the service here is terrible and extremely rude even by Chinese restaurant standards. We ordered cumin beef, hot and sour shredded potato, kabobs, and egg pancake. Our beef, potato, and arrived fairly fast, but there were no small bowls to eat out of except for the very small trays in front of us. I looked at other tables to confirm other people had bowls so when the rice was brought I asked the busgirl to bring us two bowls. Although she agreed, she never brought it, after waiting a while, I called out to the servers but was totally ignored. Only after pushing the buzzer on my table, did a server come. I repeated my request and after a while she brought us 2 plates and said they ran out of small bowls. Although not ideal, I accepted. After we finished our meal we briefly left the establishment before coming back 15 minutes later to join my colleagues who had already went into their karaoke room. When we entered the establishment again, we proceeded to walk directly to to the karaoke section. Before we had even taken a few steps, one of the servers screamed "IS THERE ANYTHING WE CAN HELP YOU WITH!!" Instead of confronting her for her rudeness, I calmly explained I was here to join my colleagues. Upon realizing I was still a customer, she immediately had a change in attitude and spoke cordially to me. I joined my colleagues and we began to sing. Although there was a buzzer in the room, and we pushed it for additional drink service, they did not respond and only after a long period of waiting plus repeated pushing of the buzzer, did the server finally show up. Overall, the food is good although their white rice is poor quality. But I will dine at East dumpling next time instead. The karaoke itself is nice but their room temperature needs adjusting as it was very warm. read more

The establishment was very well kept and clean from the entrance all the way to the bathroom. Parking was super easy since it's a paid parking but patrons could have their tickets validated for free. The private room 2 we reserved was very nice. The karaoke system was very easy to work with and the sound quality was amazing! The $30/ hr rent for the room we've got was the best priced amongst the others we've searched because the rest added more $ for the busy weekend accommodations. Not to mention the service was timely and our server was very accommodating and friendly. I would go back there again and to anyone who hasn't been here before and thinking of doing so, take the wonderful experience we've had and take the plunge on renting a private karaoke room at this establishment! read more

Seriously forget the bad reviews. You have to come here with an open mind. Meaning, don't expect it to be full service and bend over backwards type of place. It has a hole in the wall feel. The food is actually really good too. The eggplant dish, spicy boiled fish are my favorites. And their prices for alcohol are super reasonable for Rockville now a days. And the service is decent. The people are friendly as a Chinese place could be but you need to understand the culture a bit. It's not gonna be "excuse me ma'am would u like more water"? It's more like you yelling to them to get you more water. But that's ok! It's a karaoke restaurant bar type feel. That's what it's supposed to be!!! I've been here on many occasions and the servers and owner (I think) have been so accommodating to us. We've come 10-15 deep and have always had a good time eating, drinking, and singing karaoke (yes in that order)! They have a restaurant area to eat as well as watch videos and even sing for free (only in restaurant area). You would have to pay for the private back rooms but those are nice and really cool. It's definitely better IMO than most karaoke places in the area (it might be one of 3) by a mile. We love it here and honestly you have to dial down expectations a bit but food is legit and karaoke is always fun! ****The Good**** - Food is really good! Spicy boil fish is spicy, peppercorn taste without being too tongue numbing. Eggplant was also delicious as well as a bean curd dish. Came here for a karaoke session with my friend and it was a lot of fun! The room was very spacious and clean. They have a special deal Sunday - Thursday where it is ~$20 per hour, which is pretty neat. Food and drink can also be served in the room. The karaoke machine was a little difficult to maneuver at first, but then got the hang of it towards the end. They could use an update of recent songs though. Fun fact - the songs and music videos in this place actually match! :D. Most other private room karaoke places do not so this was a pleasant surprise. My only complaint, and it has nothing to do with this venue, was the parking lot. My parking ticket got stuck in the machine and the whoever was one the other side of the telecom was rude. After 10 minutes I was finally able to get out. Definitely would come back here again for my karaoke fix! read more

I feel like I'm obligated to give four stars because East Grill Karaoke is one of the only karaoke places in the area. Six friends and I headed there on a Friday night for karaoke and reserved one of their medium rooms ($40/hour). The room itself was really nice, clean, and large - definitely enough for a group twice our size. Both microphones were really loud, although we kind of enjoyed all singing along to each song without the mics (the room has pretty vibrate-y acoustics). The music selection was also decent - they didn't have too much from 2017 and were missing a few classics, but otherwise covered most of it. The alcohol is a little watered down and also overpriced - so be sure to pregame or lowkey bring in some vodka. My only gripe is that we had to set down a deposit of $100 to reserve the room, which makes no sense and is really too high. Overall, will probably be back (seeing as, again, it is one of the only karaoke places in the area). read more

THIS PLACE DESERVE NO STARS. despite their karaoke quality, the owner here is disgusting. I've experienced them taking my $50 deposit and never refunded. If you want to reserve a room, you will have to pay $50 deposit fee to secure the room, BUT they should subtract the deposit from your check afterward. But guess what the owner DID NOT refund or subtract it from my check. And after pointing it out, she became rude and angry with no manners. She'll start yelling with her bullshits. Oh yeah, and always remember to ask the owner the price for the room, please REMEMBER to call the owner to confirm because that lady likes to change the hourly cost and blame it to servers. I even think it's necessary for her to sign an agreement paper because she's a big liar. read more

On my second visit I noticed many changes, for one this place used to have a mobile app you could download to look up any songs you wanted that weren't on there machine. But now that's gone and some of the songs didn't even have the lyrics displayed while others were out of sync from the music. This place was more of a gimmick then what I previously remembered. I'd also make sure you have them repeat your order back to you because they added an additional order of dumplings to my order that I did not ask for. Been here twice since it opened on a friday and saturday night. I was in 3 different rooms in 2 nights. One is a huge round table that can be moved around to fit more people the other rooms all have long sofas that can seat a lot of people. They have tons of American artists basically what all the other karaoke's have. The only flaw here is that the machine is in all chinese, but you can manually search with the alphabet option. Basically if you want to sing Drake - "started from the bottom" You would search SFTB, the first letter of each word in the song and it'll pull it up. Bottles are available Greygoose ($130) , the yogurt soju ($20) is weak in alcohol or maybe I'm an alcoholic. They have food till pretty late. There are lots of tables in the front of the restaurant and theres karaoke you can sing up front as well. Same owner as East dumpling house so there are lamb skewers, and dumplings available all night. Real food at a karaoke and bar in rockville is a huge plus. No more eating spam and noodle soup and fried wings and bags of chips anymore. My only other concern which I didn't mind was the service charge is added to the check. I don't mind tipping 20% off everything that I order but its 20% on the entire check including the hourly room charge. So if you order $200 in food & drinks and spend 2 hours in the room ($40/hr) tip should be based off the food & drink portion ($40). but when you add service charge on top of the total hourly rate ($80) you end up tipping ($16) more then your "supposed to" I work in the service industry and i've written similar reviews for bowling places that do this. I would definitely be back its a nice clean and new environment. They offer parking tickets and validation if you stay longer than the 2 free hours given in the parking lot which is nice. Obviously karaoke is more fun with large groups and it becomes more cost effective. Definitely call to reserve a room as the rooms are scarce and limited especially on the weekend. I just left this place about 2 hours ago and I am afraid I might have been charged twice. I tried to pay for the food and karaoke room (I was wirh a friend) with my visa card and the lady with short hair said it did not go through.. I was confused because i knew I had enough money in my account but I shrugged it off and paid the $73 total in cash. On my way home I check my bank account statements and I see that my card was in fact charged. I panicked and called the restaurant and I was told that this happens quite often due to some issues they have and that I should see it canceled in 3-4 days. I left my name and number but I'm a pessismist and I don't see this ending well. This is the last time I come here. I'm not the type of person to write reviews for restaurants but this one really doesn't care about their customer service. If I could rate this restaurant negative stars I would. I ordered a bubble tea which was poorly made. It tasted like water downed Splenda sugar. When I tried to return it and get my money back because I did not like it they told me they could not take it back and they could make me a new one; which i did not want because it would taste the same. Any other restaurant literally takes it back and gives you your money back but NOT HERE. Also, the food is so overpriced and not great other than the French fries. This is a really rude place... Cash only on weekends, but they won't tell you in advance. If you need to use the ATM to get cash, you need to pay $2 for terminal fee. When I checked out, they charge us around 20% tips without asking, just put the tips in the bill automatically. Then, I have to pay cash, they should give me change, they just told me one cent less directly, they didn't ask me even one sentence... I'm also a Chinese, I really feel shame on this shop... The Karaoke rooms are nice. However, thats where the pros end. The menu prices are ridiculously expensive and the drinks are just as bad. A bottle of Absolut is over $100 and all the food is at least $18. Also if you get a room for 2 hours they don't tell you when the two hours are up. They leave it up to you and if you lose track of time they keep charging you w/o so much as a notice. When you bring up an issue with their facility or service they pretend like they don't understand any enlish. Lastly the music selection needs to be updated, they have alot of chinese pop which is fine but as far as western popular music its only stuff that is heavily on the radio and nothing newer than 2012.
