This was my first time ordering from this restaurant at this location. I ordered spring rolls, veggie dumplings and veggie noodles. Everything was greasy, salty, very mushy and totally unhealthy. I never throw food out, but tonight I dumped most of it in the garbage. Not to mention, I found a sharp open metal staple in my noodles as I was eating! Came here with 2 friends on a chilly, rainy afternoon, because in Yelp it stood out as one of the best dumpling spots in Prospect Park West. And it exceeded our expectations! The place is cozy and the decor is simple, giving it a warm, casual vibe without looking cheap. Everything looks and feels perfectly clean, which I appreciated a lot. But let's talk business. Solid juicy pork dumplings. They're wrapped in a thicker Northern style dumpling skin that's pan fried nicely (crispy brown but not burnt) while preserving the juiciness inside. The aged beef dumplings are interesting but they're just not as juicy or tasty as the OG pork classic IMHO. While I appreciate the use of more "quality" ingredients, 6 dumplings for $6.50-7 (more than a $1/dumpling!) just leaves me wanting to go to Chinatown or Queens to stuff my face at half the cost. Would also love to see the shop offer more interesting drinks. $5 for a basic bubble tea just doesn't cut it. read more

I wanted to give this place a great review, after our first delivery order with them, but then we got their food 2 more times and it was never as good, especially the last time. The noodles were all stuck together, the pork wasn't warm, like it had been before (the pork belly noodles), and the cucumbers tasted off. Unfortunately this a hit-or-miss place and it seems like it's just with the various kitchen staff, like if you get lucky and a certain chef is there, your food will be awesome, then another day when they're not there, the food is not great. This shop is so cute! I was in the neighborhood and walked by to see what business was in that location now since I used to work at a business at that address years ago. It looked really cute from the outside so I stopped in with a friend to check it out. The strawberry bubble tea was really good, it tasted like there was strawberry jam at the bottom. A friend and I ordered pork dumplings which were really good. We also lucked out and got to try some vegetable dumplings which had just been whipped up for a photo. Everything was delicious! This was a backup plan that was well des erved! Very small and cute place, you couldn't miss it though, signage very visible and good. We had the chili ribs w/Jasmine rice, pickled cucumbers $14 and the juicy pork dumplings $7, to die for! I believe you get like 5/6 pork ribs that have been cut in half but they are very flavorful and meat comes off the bone very easily and the cucumbers, let's say this my son doesn't like veggies and he ate them all. The dumplings are 5 or so and the name says it all! I like the fact that they don't have traditional flatware and plating, you eat w/chopsticks or a plastic fork and out of small red takeout trays, water is also given in styrofoam cups. Nitehawk is right around the corner and I went the first time to catch a quick bite before a movie; I wasn't overwhelmed but definitely wanted to come back. The food took forever to come out - seemed like the staff was confused and lazing around before they suddenly realized a lot of people were waiting for their food. The kicker about this experience were the dumplings....they REEKED. I took bites of three other dumplings and they all smelled and tasted like they had been sitting out on the roof on a hot summer day. Not sure if they were under cooked or old, but I got out of there fast before getting sick. I wish I had just eaten at the theater, it's the same price!! ($20 for old dumplings and steamed noodles? The five stars is for the dumpling dough alone. There's something more glutinous, chewy, sourdoughy, almost translucent but thick at the same time... and the way it's fried makes it something I thought about hours after I ate it. We got the dry aged beef potstickers, the pork dumplings, the veggie dumplings, and 2 pork belly bao buns. Actually the five stars is also for the bao buns which were, as promised, really good. Really hard to eat daintily, but really good. The bun is so thicc it doesn't really fold so you kind of have to go in mini pizza instead of taco style. But the bite through the pork belly and the pillowy bun with all the juicy and crispy seasoning was one of the best bites I've had in a while. The pork dumplings were juicy and tangy sweet - piping hot. They and the dry aged beef potstickers were smaller than expected, maybe half or 3/4 the size of steamed dumplings you get at the usual Chinese spots and there were only five of them as opposed to the usual 6. It's usually 6 right? Easier number to share if you're sharing dumplings with someone. Actually hold on a sec... DEAR EAST WIND ... CHARGE MORE AND MAKE IT 6!!! Speaking of which these dumplings are more expensive than you are used to but the lady is there rolling out the dough and making them in front of the shop and the ingredients are definitely a pleasant change from what you are used to. Reading some of the other reviews here sounds like some people out there don't know how to handle a little stank on their meat which brings me to how subtly delicious the dry aged beef potstickers are. I wouldn't be surprised if I got one of them on a huge plate at one of those Michelin star tasting menu places. Anyway, while the meat dumplings are smaller than you expect, the veggie dumplings are larger. They are filled with fresh julienned vegetables and topped with a pleasant green sauce and crunchy sesame seed. I almost stopped by to grab another order of them the next day as a snack. Looking forward to spending a little extra money trying these special dumplings again, also looking forward to trying some of the bowls on the menu. Oh but before I sign off, I will say, if I weren't an ignorant white Chinese-food-lover I would deduct half a star in demanding dumpling sauce ... isn't there supposed to be special dumpling sauce? With these dumps you just get soy sauce and sriracha and the soy sauce is too salty and overpowers the dumps. Why no dumpling sauce with the soy and the vinegar and the oil and the garlic and whatever the heck else is in there? DEAR EAST WIND... Decided to give these guys another shot today and get a bunch of things to go. I feel like I got screwed to say the least. I ordered the shrimp dumplings, the pork dumplings, spring rolls, and the vegetable dumplings. I liked the pork dumplings even less this time around, and considering you only get 5 small dumplings for $7, that's kinda lame. I didn't like the way the meat tasted, and felt they were just as bland as the first time I'd had them. Overall they're a complete bust and I threw the rest out after having one. The vegetable dumplings are much larger, so I didn't feel like I wasted my money in that sense. They're filled with carrots, cabbage, and onion, all of which were pretty lackluster in terms of flavor as well. There seems to be no seasoning to any of their dumplings, so you really have to rely on the dipping sauce they give you to make the most of your food. The vegetable spring rolls (2) were pretty good overall. Decent size and filled with similar mixture as the vegetable dumplings. The best part to these was the mango dipping sauce. I really liked that. The worst thing, which was of course the one item I was really looking forward to trying, were the Har Gow (shrimp dumplings). There were 4 in my to-go container, and of decent size. The filling itself, while not skimpy on the shrimp, was just as boring as the rest of my meal. But the worst part was the fact that two of my dumplings were burnt to a crisp on the bottom. I mean black. It was just gross and ruined an already bleh meal. Thusly, after this second attempt, I don't plan on coming back to this place. I'll stick to buying my dumplings in Chinatown instead. read more

Really nice staff as well (Once we ordered pick up to the wrong East Wind restaurant and the one we went to was nice enough to make our order for us anyways) The dry aged beef potstickers are my absolute favorite, with a relatively thick skin and unique taste that lingers in the mouth from the dry aging process (might not recommend for people who aren't open to trying new flavors) Besides that, the juicy pork dumplings and the shrimp dumplings are packed with flavor and have great texture. Girl at the counter took 10 minutes to put my order in the system and charge my credit card. Tip: have a streamlined system in place when your space is barely 150sqft. The boba had the consistency of a jelly bean and was unappetizing. Bao was well seasoned but difficult to eat. Dim sum was freezer aisle quality. Just another below average place hyped up by hipster transplants. The noodles were too soggy/over-cooked and the sauce that was mixed in (if any) was very bland and tasteless. The pork belly was ok but they only had 3 pieces. They were all good and the service was great (fast takeout and kind), but the stand out was really the vegetable dumplings. I came here twice in a week which is very unlike me. I love East Wind. The vegetable spring rolls are very crispy, not too oily, and come with an orange-zested dipping sauce. It's less than $5 for 2. The veggie dumplings are very good and salty. They come topped with onion, sesame seeds and a light wasabi. They are so good. The restaurant itself is very clean and tidy. It's small but comfortable and decorated well. I really like sitting at the bar. You can see the chef cooking your food which is entertaining to me. The staff is very friendly and knows the menu very well. They are able to give recommendations and are knowledgeable on the specials. It's dangerous that East Wind is on my block. East Wind is a bit of a hole in the wall on a side street in Windsor Terrace but don't let that confuse you. The dumplings are fantastic (we had the juicy pork, the angus, and the veggie, which was huge and delicious rather than the usual pale imitation of their meat counterparts). We had the cucumber salad, sticky ribs, and mixed veg with rice as well -- all great. The service was super fast and kind: it was a hot day and the woman at the counter offered me a seat and a drink of water. Plus the prices are low given the high quality of the food. This isn't a place you'd go to sit and have a relaxed meal -- it's a takeout joint first and foremost. But if you want a quick, satisfying, tasty meal for a crowd at a reasonable cost, this is the spot for you. read more

The best dumpling place in the entire South Brooklyn area, in my opinion (although no soup dumplings!) While everything on their menu is great, the standout for me are the dry-aged beef potstickers. They are PERFECT little bites, packed with tons of flavor. Don't pass these up! I also usually will order the pork dumplings, bao bun, Buddha veggies if I've brought a few people with me just to have a nice sampling of flavors. Eaten here a couple times and it's always delicious! I get the pan fried juicy pork dumplings, dry aged beef pot stickers, incredible har gow shrimp dumplings and honey lemon sour plum iced drink. My partner didn't want a sour plum drink, I gave him a sip and then drank half of mine, so he had to buy me another one to make up for it. Having an unfair penchant for Chinese food, small local businesses, and humble shops, I was so ready to give this place 5 stars. Alas, there were two areas where East Wind Snack Shop fell short. The food holds up, but I felt everything I got here was so salty--I found myself chugging water all day to compensate the sodium imbalance in my system. The dry aged beef potstickers are what they're known for but I found these could not hold a candle to their juicy pork dumplings. THESE are the true champion on the menu. You should know that the true measure of good dumplings, is how far the juice shoots out at another angle when biting into it. Not really, I just made that up, but mine did end up shooting and reaching the other end of my dining table--impressive. Anyway--definitely get these! The potstickers were decent, but not quite spectacular. I don't think the dry-aging of the beef does anything for the dumpling, besides make it more appealing to gullible people with money. The pork bun was also decent, but here comes the other area where East Wind Snack Shop fell short. How in the world am I paying so much for SNACKS? All in all, I love supporting local joints--the service is friendly, and it certainly is a humble shop. But definitely will need to be an occasional thing. read more

East Wind is many things. Is it good quality: yes! Is it yummy: yes (although I am giving less stars because it isn't totally my favorite kind of food, but it is still good). Is it truly a "snack shop": yes - if you get a couple things, you could have a full meal here and share it with a friend or your grandma or brother or mother, but it isn't necessarily a spot to sit down and enjoy a meal together. It is a small spot, but it actually offers seating AND a restroom. Score! In this era of tiny hovels passing for restaurants that don't offer basic comforts, these two things make me really happy. Anyway, we ordered 3 dishes: Fried Pork Dumplings (5 for $5.50): Major juice dribbling action with these. In fact, I'd recommend being careful when you bite into them, especially while hot, since there is definite squirting potential. (I learned the hard way.) But it's all good, since these were delicious! Happy Buddha Vegetables with Rice ($8.00): I know some of my fellow Yelpers were underwhelmed by this dish, complaining of blandness. But I thought it was a nice way to balance our meal. I appreciated the clear freshness of all the vegetables, though I wish there had been fewer green beans, which tasted a bit too crunchy to me. Dry Aged Beef Potstickers: (5 for $7): Not a fan. The filling had an offputting overly soft texture that almost made it seem like it was undercooked. Not worth the price, prime ingredients or not. Based on this dining experience alone, the food is not quite 4 stars. Super strong 4, these are my personal best dumplings in Brooklyn, by a long shot! I am happy that there is a spiritual heir to the dearly departed dumpling specialist Eton, which I dearly and deeply miss. Both the incredibly juicy pork dumplings and the wonderfully smokey and musty dry-aged beef pot-stickers belong firmly up in the pantheon of the cities great dumplings, along with the Chinatowns soup dumplings, Rego Park's Mantis, Greenpoint's pierogis, Jackson Heights' Momo's, Bensonhurst's raviolis, and the many many more wonderful forms of dumplings to be found across this great city. The high quality ingredients and classical training of the chef shine through thoroughly and profoundly, and more than justify the slightly elevated price tag. I would love to give the place a functional if not actual five stars, however, while I respect the brevity of the Menu, I would only wish there were another non-dumpling dish or two that could if not match, at least approach the same stratosphere of quality of the dumplings, and effectively fill out an order here to the level of meal, as opposed to one of the best possible snacks. The spare ribs were tasty, though not necessarily registering as better than the average to be found at the local good delivery option. The Foie Gras bun was likewise tasty although the elevated ingredients might make you expect it to be more mind blowing Seasonal vegetables taste d fresh enough though somewhat muddled in terms of flavor. Theres not much else to be found in terms of menu options, and I usually just get one of each of the dumplings. Setting is sparse but clean, serene and pleasant, and the same can be said for the staff and service. No booze to be found and takeout is a solid option, but if I decide to dine in I usually order my dumplings, which of course are made to order and take a good solid 10 minutes minimum, and head across the street to either Farrell's or Double Windsor to enjoy while I wait for them being prepared. read more

It's so easy to pop these little bad boys in your mouth, you could easily finish them with a snap of the finger! My favorite dumplings I've had in Brooklyn, so far! I would pass on the bubble tea though. I had tried both the strawberry and lychee and they were too sweet.
