I visited this place on Saturday night and really wanted to like it. The entrance could use a sign telling visitors to seat themselves because the hostess station is sort of in the middle of the restaurant, so it was a little confusing upon entering. We ordered chips and salsa to start. The chips were nice and crispy, but the salsa was too garlic forward. I am not someone to shy away from garlic or seasoning at all, but it was a bit too much. For dinner I ordered the Mexican bowl with shrimp. I am not exaggerating when I say it was the blandest food I've ever had at a restaurant, like no seasoning at all. The "Mexican rice" looked like white rice with the tiniest bit of tomato paste added to it. Was not true Mexican rice. There were 3 unseasoned shrimp in the bowl, which had been diced and mixed in. I had to dump in the garlicky salsa in to give it some flavor. My boyfriend ordered 3 different tacos but enjoyed only one. The drinks we ordered; a mojito and paloma were both good. Our server also disappeared for 20+ minutes while we were waiting for our check. Unfortunately, we probably won't be back. read more

A great location to enjoy tacos on the patio on a summer day. Just bring your patience. The barbacoa, steak, chicken, and fried fish tacos were fresh, flavorful, and tasty! Tacos are ~$6, so on the pricier side, but interesting flavor combos. The burrito was impressively large and also delish. The issue is the service. It was slow, but we didn't mind hanging out on a beautiful early evening. The prob is that 3 people finished their meals before the 4th was even served. I mean done and ready to leave before the last meal was served. Not cool. Also, as we have a gluten (wheat) allergy, it was disappointing that we could not have chips (shared fryer with flour products), but understand that this is a unique concern for us. read more

I really liked checking out this taco place! They have some really creative options here that are so tasty. I had the fish taco (with picked hibiscus! so cool!), calamari taco, chicken taco, and rice/beans. All were delicious! They have plenty of seating inside and outside. We stopped in for a Cinco de Mayo dinner since we had never been there before. As expected they were busy, but we were able to be seated indoors right away in their colorful and fun dining room. It took a while to get our margaritas which were very tart. The table next to us ordered more tequila to add to their margaritas thinking that would make them less sour. We found our drinks had enough tequila. The guacamole and chips were good. The guacamole was smooth and creamy and chips were warm. We tried a variety of the tacos which were good. I loved the vibe of Eataco- such a great location being in downtown Northbrook giving people the ability to enjoy the area while grabbing a quick bite to eat. I was a bit disappointed to find out many things on the menu they were out of. I went based on their recommendation of grilled octopus and the cod tacos. I loves the grilled onions on the octopus taco- but that should have been the name. There were more onions than octopus and was very over powering. The cod was so fried up that it was nearly impossible to even bite into. The guac on the other hand, was amazing!!! I'd been meaning to give this place another try since my last 2 star review over a year ago merited a response from the owners. They provided a lengthy reply, implored me to give them another chance, and offered me a 30$ gift certificate (didn't take them up on that). Also, wanted to give them another chance because of all the positive reviews. I happened to be nearby today and hadn't eaten all day, I was pretty hungry. So though I was going out to dinner within the hour I thought I'd grab just 1 taco, I was craving tacos. I ordered the mushroom taco and the bill came to $4.45. I handed them a $20 bill and they asked if I had anything smaller. I gave them .50 cents. She handed me back the $16 and said she didn't have the 5 cents owed to me and actually laughed. I said it wasn't funny, I certainly don't care about a nickel but how is a business not prepared to give change or take a $20 bill? I might understand if it was a $100 or even a $50 bill or if it was just opening time and they didn't have money in the till but none of this was the case. When she handed me my taco she also gave me a quarter and said, "you know many businesses don't even take cash." True, I've been in other countries where this is literally the case everywhere and places in this country where this is also true. However, I was not eating at any of those places; I was eating at EatTaco and they DO take cash. I didn't order a side of attitude with my taco. The mushroom taco was fairly flavorless. There are many better taco places nearby. I'll give them 1 star for having a variety of vegetarian/vegan/pescatarian options. Though I'm giving them 1 star, I won't be giving them a 3rd chance. read more

We came here with our youngest, who has a healthy appetite! The tacos are not small "street tacos." They are good sized. Two will be enough for most people. The outside seating is comfortable. The food: we ordered the guacamole. It was surprisingly plain. There was no spice. The chips were not fresh. I would not order again. The tacos were tasty. We had the avocado (delicious!) and the Brussel sprout which was quite good. The Barbacoa meat was tender and tasty. The tacos were stuffed. And very good. The service was sparse. Water refills needed to be chased and our server spent a significant amount of time schmoozing with table behind us. We ended up having to close out with another server. Finally got a chance to try out this new taco joint in downtown Northbrook! We ordered 8 different tacos so definitely got a chance to try a lot of the menu. The crispy potato taco was very disappointing, it had a huge hunk of potato rather than small crispy pieces which didn't lend well to a taco (even though the toppings were great). The grilled chicken taco was flavorless, not even salsa could save it. The lamb and barbacoa tasted similar but were both a bit dry. The shrimp on the grilled shrimp taco didn't taste super fresh. The steak taco was a winner and tasted like it had very high quality meat! We very much enjoyed our sides of guacamole, elote, and churros. Overall, the concept is very good but could use some work on execution on some of the tacos to bring it up to par with many of the competitors in the area. read more

The food at EATACO is high level! Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food. My wife and I had the Mexi bowls and my son had the chicken quesadillas. A few minor grievances resulting in my rating: they charged $7! extra for the chips and salsa, which were excellent but also a little stingy on the chips. Service was fine until the end when our server completely disappeared and we had to track down another one to get our check. Review written during covid-19: Saturday nights are no longer reserved for date nights, but it's family takeout night. I think I spent majority of last Saturday thinking about where we would enjoy a delicious meal from. At first we thought we would take advantage of the lack of traffic and pick something up downtown, but then opted local. Then we thought we would pick up from Abigails and take advantage of being able to do takeout from there, but at 430pm were told it wouldn't be ready til 750pm. And then we decided what we really needed after another long day with our 3 delightful yet crazy children was margaritas. Margaritas and delish tacos to go with them. Taco Nano is our go to when it comes to tacos, but thought we'd try somewhere new and it was a great experience. They had our food ready in 20 minutes. Quesadillas for the kids (1 order vs 3 would have been plenty for all 3 of my kids), chips and guacamole (chip portion was a bit small), Brussels sprouts (yum), coconut shrimp tacos (so good!) and ground beef tacos (also delish). And of course the inspiration for our meal - margaritas! One for me and two for my husband. We did curbside pick up. I called and let them know I had arrived and they came out a few min later (wearing mask). The woman who brought out the food was super friendly and seemed to understand my need for a margarita after a long week. Good tacos spots have popped up all over the North Shore and this is one worth checking out...both now and to dine in when this virus madness passes us. I was so happy after eating here because service, food and atmosphere were a 10! First of all, our server was such a nice and energetic lady. She was quick and attentive as well. We ordered the Nachos with Carne Asada, Carne asada tacos and Camarones al ajillo tacos. I must say the Carne asada is bomb! It was so flavorful and tender. I LOVE coming here for fun tacos, lively music and great drinks. Great spot for families and they are incredibly accommodating. I should also mention portion sizes are HUGE. Don't skip on the barbacoa and the crispy fish tacos! I also recommend the pitchers of margaritas, my favorite is the mango with a tajin rim. The best part is the party doesn't have to stop and you can visit the lounge after dinner, which has their own appetizers and the most amazing one of a kind cocktails. Stopped by here for lunch the other day while in the area for an errand. The outdoor seating was nice. The waitress (and apparently co-owner) was nice. I think the food was... Ok. The food ended up being so-so. Asian flavored tofu taco was fine. Best of the lot, but still kinda meh. If I had to pick one, this would be it. Mushroom taco - yeah, it had those deep fried heavily breaded mushrooms, which you couldn't really tell they were mushrooms anymore. It was fine... Crispy potato taco - this had this massive chunk of one potato that is fried. Wasn't probably cooked properly. Too big a chunk and too hard. I think we had some nachos which were fine. Outstanding! Downtown Northbrook needed another top quality, but affordable restaurant, and this is it! Be sure to check the daily specials listed on the small board at the cash register. On the day of my visit, it featured a pork and bacon taco! Two of my favorite words in the English language in a taco! I had to try it! It was outstanding! The tacos are on the smallish side, but full of flavor. If you have a big appetite, you could probably eat four or five tacos here easily. Order at the register, they deliver to your table. Napkins, utensils, sauces, and straws are at a small counter past the register. Best to get what you need before finding a table to sit at. Nice tables outside for dining when the weather is nice. I hope Eataco finds success in Northbrook. Judging by the quality of the food here, they should do well! read more

I went to this place a couple weeks ago after seeing all the positive reviews on yelp, not realizing that it was currently having a "soft open". We talked to a couple of the owners and employees who were all so friendly & kind. I appreciate great service like that! The food was delicious! I loved the quesadilla, and my friends loved their tacos. The margaritas were also delicious! We got the truffle corn burrata to share because it sounded interesting. It wasn't our favorite though. We thought it could use a little more flavor, but it was still good. It doesn't come with anything though, so we also ended up buying chips & salsa so we can eat the chips with the burrata. That's probably not how it was meant to be eaten, but that's just what we did. :) The salsa was pretty good too, by the way! The inside is small, but the interior design was very cute. I have almost 300 reviews; a lot of work to bolster a "friend's" business. My first time at this place was very promising. I had a steak quesadilla, and it was amazing. The steak was cooked very well, and the seasoning allow the meat to just melt in your mouth. Today, I decided to get the Lamb Barbacoa tacos. I've never had lamb before, so this would be my first time eating it. Since it was my first time having lamb I decided to pick out some of the meat from the taco just to taste the flavor and texture. The meat was quite dry and very chewy. It almost felt like eating pork. The texture wasn't so different from it. Nevertheless, the lamb had decent spices but could of used a bit more salt. Now, the reason why I gave it 3 stars. As you can see, one of my tacos was extremely greasy. I used my hand to squeeze it on my plate, and that was the amount that came out. I'm not sure if this is normal with this type of taco in this restaurant or if the lamb itself is that greasy. Can't judge it correctly because it was my first time eating lamb. Also, the tacos are very small for its price. I bought three of them expecting them to be a bit more standard size. That was a bit disappointing. In conclusion, the staff is great, the place is clean, there's a nice variety of alcohol beverages (though if it's considered a Mexican-American Restaurant, it would of been nice if they sold Coronas. My favorite beer of course. Lol) and other foods in their menu are great too. I was close to giving it a 4 star, but the greasy tacos, size, and price is a big loss for me. read more
