Me and friends went to Galveston for the day, and I did a little bit of my research as to where we should eat our. I yelped it and I came across Eatcetera. I decided to give this place a try and I was super impressed. The cafe itself is smaller however super cozy. The ladies serving us were amazing and they gave us a few recommendations as well. We all ended up ordering paninis and sandwiches. My dish was the smoked salmon sandwich with a bowl of chips. I really enjoyed it because it was tasty yet light which is the best combination. My wife and I made a last minute decision to visit Eat Cetera having checked other Yelp reviews and we were very satisfied with our experience. It was a cold, wet Saturday afternoon and the shop had a few patrons. Our service was exceptional. I ordered the split pea soup, Hickory smoked turkey with chipotle cream, and a Double chocolate torte with raspberry Coulis. My wife ordered the Smoked Turkey, Bacon & White Cheddar panini. Having never tried split pea soup, it was as I expected. It had a smooth pea flavor. I was expecting spicy, but my sandwich was more sweet than spicy and still very good. It had a sweet sauce that reminded me of pimento. The dessert was a double chocolate torte. I am not normally a fan of mousse like desserts and this was very rich. The raspberry Coulis drizzle distracted me from the rich mousse flavor and it ended up tasting better than I expected. My wife said she really enjoyed her smoked Turkey panini. It had a very crunchy crust with a soft core and just the right mix of meat and sauce so that one flavor did not stand out. We certainly want to return again and try more items. read more

This place is phenomenal! And I don't impress easily. The parking is not easy, and the dining area small but cozy! But the food... The food! Out of this world! Such a lovely balance of different flavors making each bite delightful! I glance at their menu will have you swimming in uncertainty - it all looks so delicious! So far my favorite is the Thai beef, carrots, and daikon radish sandwich! Absolutely amazing! And make sure you get that little house salad that comes with it as their dressing is divine!! The prickly pear tea is light and delicious and not sweet, which I like! Even my son's grilled cheese was so good I kept sneaking bites (bad daddy, bad daddy!). I don't know anyone here and these thoughts are heartfelt. I don't think you'll be disappointed if you come. The prices are modest and the food a step above anything else on the island. We finally got our timing right and got to try Eat Cetera. We had a Peruvian potato soup and paninis and the house salad. They also brought out blue cheese butter with toasted or grilled baguettes. The soup was good, but seemed to have more corn than potato and it was actually a little on the bland side, which may be how it was supposed to be. We remedied that by adding a little of the blue cheese butter. WOW did it pop! We tried two different paninis, Roast Beef with shiitake mushrooms and Swiss cheese and a Smoked Chicken with sun dried tomatoes and fontina cheese. They were both good but the Smoked Chicken was our favorite, it was full of flavor. The Roast Beef was very good but it could have used some of the blue cheese butter or something to give it a little extra something. The salad is tossed in a house vinaigrette and it was very good. The service was good, the waitresses were very attentive. Overall the look and feel of the place is kind of eclectic, they have some books and some types of art on one shelf and then on a back wall and restroom areas they have these really cool silhouettes and pictures of the Jetsons. It is very clean and has well placed seating for such a small area. The pricing was not too bad, more than Subway, less than Chili's, and the food overall was extremely good. Wow! I had one of the best salads I've ever eaten here. That's really saying something, because I eat an infinite number of salads. Actually, my new obsession on the weekend is to create a salad with only items I've gotten at the farmer's market. I usually cheat and add avocado and a few other items. Well the point is, I like to put everything together, but keep each item separate. I want to be able to maximize my different flavor combinations. I want to be able to taste each item individually. It makes a very simple salad interesting. A flavor adventure, if you will. The salad I had at Eat Cetera also allowed me to explore different flavor combinations. It was off the special menu. So, if you look at their normal menu, and think - mmm ehh, remember they also have a far superior, healthier special menu. Oh. The ingredients? Steamed beets, English cucumbers, arugula, shaved red onion, tomatoes (I had these omitted), and some sort of thinly sliced, slightly crumbly cheese. Everything (except the beets and cucumbers) was in it's own district, gorgeously arranged. I asked for the dressing on the side, and that came on a separate plate with the requested lemon wedges and a couple of toasted french bread slices. Think giant crouton orb cross sections that I could dip in the dressing if desired. I also spread the remaining blue cheese spread from the bread plate onto the orb sections. Oh. I didn't mention the bread plate? Orb sections, sliced in half, with a tiny ramekin of blue cheese spread. I ate every last morsel, and I rarely add anything to bread. The entire experience was fantastic. The interior was austere, but in an engaging sort of way. I was dining solo, so I looked around for something to read (I grabbed a magazine called Afar - I'm now getting a subscription), and sat next to a wall with a plethora of CDs and post cards for sale. The host/waitress even politely watched my stuff when I had to run to the car to grab my spectacles. I would have even gotten dessert, but I was trying to hit as many spots on my short visit, so didn't grab anything to go. I should have. Gem? Been wanting to try this place for months but it seemed we only remembered about it on Sundays, which they are closed. Well today we remembered it and tried it. Glad we did too We walked in and I was impressed with the design and lay out of this small but well laid out cafe' There were only about ten tables but it did have more seats at the bar that over looked the semi open kitchen. All the tables and chairs are a nice dark brown with low tops as well as several high tops along the walls. The wall color was a warm shade of golden brown. I particularly like the use of track lighting through out the space. The restrooms were clean and also appointed very well. Over all there is a nice contemporary feeling to the space...kinda of a new hippy vibe if you will. I did think the wall of "World Music" CD's and all the abundance of Boduri coffee and wine merchandise was a little much but I guess it goes along with the hippy vibe I mentioned above. There is various pieces of art on the walls that I personally found rather sophomoric but hey...it's a restaurant not a art gallery, right? Our waitress told us to sit where ever we liked and immediately came over with menus and to take our drink order. Her name was Meredith...she was a young lady with no makeup on that showed her natural beauty...which I found in perfect line with the restaurant. I ordered the Salmon sandwich and my wife got the chicken panini, I got the chips and she got the side salad both were included in our meal. Both sandwiches were great and served warm. I found the spicy sauce on mine was particularly good. The only complaint was it took about 15 for our order to come out which I think is ridicules for a couple of sandwiches with a near empty restaurant. Can't wait to go back and try one of the specials or the home made soup. One additional thing. There is free parking in the lot adjacent to the property. Really cute interior, fairly small but that's expected in a joint like that. Super friendly, helpful & knowledgeable staff. Veggie friendly place in Galveston with good food and service? Yes please. It has always been more difficult to find places in this area that can accommodate a veggie. So this was a nice find. Three veggies or mostly veggies went out for lunch here. We all got one of their veggie friendly paninis or other sandwiches. All were equally good. The side salads that accompanied them had a very tasty dressing. They also gave free grilled crostinis with a tomato dip that was yummy. They also have funky sodas on the menu. We really liked the rhubarb but the lavender was just okay. This will probably be a regular stop when we are in the area. Unfortunately, they do close a bit early at 7pm so I suggest making it a lunch or early dinner spot. read more

There are not many vegan/vegetarian options in Galveston. I found this place with the help of Yelp, looking for a healthy sandwich/salad place to eat. I ordered their Smoked Chicken sandwich but the vegetarian version: baked, marinated tofu, bell peppers, spinach, grape tomatoes, and smoked paprika aioli . THE BEST TOFU SANDWICH I have ever had.
