We ordered soft shell crab, new style salmon, scallop, and yellowtail. The sweet shrimp was delicious. We also got a salmon skin salad and uni. The uni had these giant pieces of uni. The atmosphere is solid, though there's no "sushi bar," which I would have chosen - always like to chat direct with the chef. Clientele are not annoying. Music is inoffensive if not somewhat LA-remix of bygone whatever's - regardless, an agreeable volume. Servers are kind and diligent, seems to have an actual Japanese flair (it's sushi after all), and there's no rush. The hype is real for this place. There's a reason there's so many ratings and almost 5 stars for this small sushi place! Me and some friends arrive to a fully crowded restaurant where we luckily got a table and was sat immediately. We browsed through menu but I opted to get a bunch of sushi thanks to the amazing prices as well as some spicy tuna crispy rice. Our server made sure everything we checked on the list was accounted for as well. My order came out pretty quickly and all the rolls looked amazing! What's best of all is the prices of the rolls! Each single piece was around $1.50 ea (aside from maybe 1 or 2 rolls on the menu)! You really can't beat that price for single rolls. But how was the taste? Well I'm glad to tell you every roll tasted amazing! Well worth the price! We were checked on constantly from every server and our waters were filled every time. Every server here was nice and appreciative especially the older Japanese server. Overall this place is well worth the wait and hype. People waited with us, ate and left and we were still waiting outside because the strategic seating was not properly assigned and we are still waiting for people to leave to get 2 tables for us to eat together. This is the second visit to Eat's and once again, the sushi is so fresh and delicious! They have so much variety with the traditional cut rolls, to rolls without rice, to beautifully crafted sashimi. Eat's Sushi in Costa Mesa is a pretty nice spot that for sure is very busy. At 5:00 pm they opened for dinner and I arrived there at 5:15 pm and took one of the two last tables that they had. They also have a lunch hour. The inside is small but super cute with decorated walls that look kike you are in Japan. I overordered a bunch of items here but everything was so tasty and enjoyable. My favorites were the salmon collar, scallop sashimi, and ankimo. They have cooked items as well as raw items. You can order sashimi pieces and also sushi rolls and hand rolls. This was such a great find! Super affordable, fresh, quality fish. We ordered a bunch of things - japanese snapper (new style madai) seasoned with white truffle oil, yuzu, lemon, and black truffle salt & several nigiris (salmon, yellowtail, salmon egg, toro, pepper bluefin tuna, pepper salmon, egg, seared jumbo scallop. Each piece was around $2.50 - $4.95. We also ordered some hand rolls - the spicy salmon and spicy scallop. Delish! Our bill came out to around $87ish bucks (not including tip) for everything we ordered! My favorites were the pepper bluefin tuna, pepper salmon, and toro! The only thing I probably wouldn't get again is the seared jumbo scallop. Otherwise, everything was delicious! You rarely find fresh fish for this price point. We will definitely be back. this is the type of place I would gatekeep but it's also popular already! I ended waiting a little over an hour but it was definitely worth it. The sashimi is so high quality, melt-in-your mouth, and unforgettable. The uni, tuna, toro, scallop were amazing as if it was shipped right from japan. I was really impressed by the TAKO WASABI, a dish I had never gotten a chance to try before. It was unique as it flavors shifted in my mouth from the decadent seafood to the bright flavor of the fresh wasabi. We cleaned that dish up so please give this dish a chance! Their rolls are pretty good, similar to what you'll find in other AYCE sushi places like ex-girlfriend or hot night. The unique thing is how the rolls comes in smaller portions (2 to 4 pieces) so you can try more things! This is what initially brought me here but I would now say I'm coming back for the sashimi! Skip the mountain hand roll though, this was the only thing we didn't bother finishing. Overall, the restaurant is well kept and beautiful with interesting tiger water artwork on the ceiling and the walkway to the bathroom was nicely decorated with fake wisteria and lights. Our food came out very quickly and we enjoyed every single roll- we especially loved the crunchy rice with spicy tuna! Wait times can get very long and they don't take reservations, so I would definitely recommend joining the yelp waitlist if possible (must be within 5 miles). First time here, was pretty busy on a Saturday around 2p. There was a wait. We added to their waitlist ahead of time online instead of doing that on arrival. The restaurant is smaller in size for how busy they are. The decor is nice, but felt a bit crammed with how busy things were. The service was great. People were friendly and attentive. Not the cheapest sushi for a non-omakase restaurant, but everything seems to be on the higher end these days. The items tasted fresh and most tasted delicious. They provide you their menus along with an order sheet + pencil. Not AYCE, but you get 2 rounds. You check off what you'd like on the sheet provided, and the staff will review and your items will be served accordingly. Overall, a good eatery. Glad to see they are busy. I came mid afternoon on a Saturday and there was no wait. It's a small place and I heard the restaurant can get very busy so this was a nice surprise. We were seated quickly and had friendly efficient service. The restaurant itself was clean, modern, and had a slightly darker ambience. We ordered a few dishes and a bottle of sake. The vegetable tempura was perfectly battered and not greasy. I love that one of them was a shishito pepper! The chicken karaage was juicy, tender and cut in smaller pieces than how it's usually served in other places which makes it easier to eat. We also had the cucumber salad which was tossed in a sweet rice vinegar dressing. It was good but had too much dressing for my liking - too sweet. For sushi, I recommend the yellowtail - both the traditional sashimi and the new style served with ponzu. The blue fin sashimi was also melt in your mouth yum. The new style blue fin has a slight smoky flavor and would have been good for me if it wasn't for the sauce which was too over powering for my taste. I like a lighter, cleaner flavor for sashimi. I will definitely return to try other dishes and maybe get a beer next time! (Btw, they only serve large bottles of beer.) I got a variety of sushi (Bluefin Tuna, Yellowtail, Salmon, Fatty Tuna, and Peppered Bluefin Tuna) & Miso Soup and we shared the Seaweed Salad, Spicy Garlic Edamame, & Dragon roll. So fresh and so much quality packed into the fish! I couldn't pick a favorite because each one had an amazing taste.
