While, the curry beef and teriyaki chicken entree we ordered were terrible. For $22, we expect the beef would be tender, it was not. I can not chew it. Also, there was no flavor on the beef. They poured a small portion of the curry on it but still the curry is very "weak". The piece of very thin beef was about 4"x4", very small portion...for $22. The $22 teriyaki chicken was the same...no flavor, just lightly deep in a teriyaki sauce. Luckily, we ordered two sushi rolls at $18 each. Otherwise, we would still be starving. The sushi rolls are good, not great, but standard. Any sushi restaurants can prepared the same. But, for the price of $18 per roll we ordered, we can probably get cheaper prices elsewhere. Anyway, we are very, very picky people and we love to eat. These were our first impressions of this restaurant, and our opinions. Your taste buds might be different than our, so good luck. But I would not recommend this restaurants for their entrée, their sushi is fine, if you do not mind their prices.

We ordered some cold green tea, and started our meal with 12 piece sashimi and an order of chicken karaage. I was craving the tonkatsu curry entree, hubs ordered the chicken katsu don and daughter ordered the sashimi don buri. While I didn't get pics of every one of our dishes, trust me when I say our plates were left clean. While this wasn't our first visit, it had been a while, and that's only because it's a small, but traditional Japanese shop that is ALWAYS crowded. Our delicious meals were a pleasant reminder that we need to be patient and get back to Yoshi soon, regardless of any wait!

Expect to wait an hour for your food after you have been seated. We arrived close to opening at noon on a Sunday and did not leave until 2pm which is when they close for lunch. We sat at the back right side of the restaurant which is where the AC is blasting so it can get very cold when seated here. We started with the Ika Maruyaki (Teriyaki grilled squid) and for $28 this was a miss. No tentacles were served and the squid did not taste very fresh. It's really not worth the price point and I don't recommend it. The next appetizer was the toro roll and I think I need to order more sushi next time. The fish was incredibly fresh with a perfect amount of rice and high quality nori. I ordered the tempura udon - you really can't go wrong with the tempura here. It has a crisply light batter that is not too thick or oily. My husband got the tonkatsu curry and this always hits. The curry is so aromatic with the warm spices and the katsu is perfectly battered and cooked.

The waitress was friendly and helped describe the dishes we were considering. I always go for their Homura Aburasoba (Top 1). It's delicious and well-balanced in flavor; I like to add fried garlic, vinegar, and chili oil to enhance the dish (personal preference but not needed). 9/10 The Nikumori Aburasoba is packed with savory and spicy flavors, but it's a bit heavy. Nice quantity of noodles and meat. 8/10 We love karaage and the Oroshi Ponzu Karaage did not disappoint. Fantastic crispy outside and smothered in grated daikon radish (however, there was another time we came here and it wasn't as crispy). 10/10 when it comes out perfectly! A must try restaurant in the Elk Grove area!

The service was good and friendly. - Homura aburasoba: delicious! The noodle was perfectly cooked to my liking - a bit firm yet still has a chew. The raw egg mixed with spicy pork was the perfect combo of creaminess and a little bit of kick. The bambu shoots and scallions gave a nice crunch to the dish. When I added vinegar and ground sesame seeds, the flavor totally changed (to the better!). The acidity from the vinegar gave a bright taste to the creamy noodle. - Original aburasoba: good. The noodle was perfectly cooked. The chasu pieces were tender and flavorful. It tasted better when I added vinegar, spicy sauce & ground sesame seeds to the bowl. - Ponzu karaage: the karaage meat was tender and juicy. Since they put the grated daikon on top, the pieces were not that crispy. The ponzu gave a nice bright flavor to the karaage.

I could snack on it for sure. The edamame is also something I could just snack on. It's covered with a sauce that is very addicting. We got a small boat that comes with sashimi, nigiri, and two rolls. All very fresh fish! The roll with the salmon on top was my fave. Their sauce on the rolls really bumps them up for me. We also got more salmon and tuna sashimi because we needed more! We also got this fried piece that's topped with spicy tuna, crab, avocado, and masago -- very delicious! I took away a star because I have had better raw fish from other places and there is just too much rice with the nigiri. The staff here are incredible! Satori is guaranteed for kind and attentive people.

We ordered a California roll and a tempura bento box. If you look at the picture it didn't come in a box. First Japanese place I've been to that this happened. The shrimp tempura may have been imitation shrimp. Not your traditional size. It's like Long John Silver fried shrimp. During the meal I heard the door open and smelled cigarette smoke. At first I thought it was a customer coming in and someone smoking around the door. When we were done with the meal the door opened again and again I smelled the smoke. THIS TIME I saw one of the sushi chefs walk in, grab his drink from behind the counter, put gloves on and proceed to do his job. HE DID NOT WASH HIS HANDS! He went straight back to work. Moments before that our server was eating something also behind the counter where they make the sushi. Now I don't eat sushi. My daughter does. But from what I know sushi is raw. Everything should be super sanitized. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I was beyond grossed out! I've worked at a restaurant before where they wash hands coming from the bathroom and first going into the kitchen. Twice. He didn't do it once! I told my daughter if she's feeling a bit sick to let me know. She said she's fine for now. How they got a PASS from the safety department I don't know.

It was to our surprise that the host sat us at the worst seat in the entire building even though the restaurant was nearly empty. We were shocked to see a fire extinguisher at our table and an open supply closet (opened) right behind my seat. Why would the restaurant even create a seating area around these items and have us seat there. We asked to be moved and the worker seamed confused about our request to find better seating arrangements. After waiting a little bit, we walked out and let them know that we are unhappy. The staff didn't care and lit us walk out. We then drove to Folsom to eat at Aloha Sushi. I hope Mikuni's management reads my review and address the issue for future Birthday dinners.
