All the food I've had so far has been excellent. Especially the spicy edamame and the barbecue calamari and fried oysters.

Well color me impressed! This place was recommended to me by a co worker and I have been on a huge sushi kick and have been wanting to try new places. We stopped in on a Friday around 6:30 and didn't have to wait. We were immediately seated and brought waters. We passed on any other drinks and loved over the menu. We started with the Gyoza and sizzling albacore. The gyoza came out nice and hot and I really enjoyed the sauce it came with. Albacore is usually not my thing but this plate was amazing! It came out sizzling and then there was a sauce that was poured on it which made it even steamier and sizzlier. It was a fantastic appetizer and I would absolutely get that again. I also got the Ebisu roll and the Hokkaido roll. The Ebisu roll was four large pieces and the outside was deeps fried. It was good and interesting but I will stick to cold rolls. The Hokkaido was delicious and I really loved the sauces on top. The service was prompt and friendly throughout our whole visit. Five stars for this hidden gem in an Elk Grove strip mall! First of all, the decor inside the restaurant was beautiful and the vibes were immaculate. The modern and clean aesthetic made me feel like I was at a trendy sushi spot in Vancouver or something, not Elk Grove. I had my kids with me so we got seated in a private little corner which was nice. My husband recognized the chef and he hooked it up with some special dishes that weren't on the menu. I've been obsessed with scallops lately so he made a special scallop plate for me too. He even made my daughter a rice and seaweed roll. So nice! There were a lot of options for rolls and we got the Elk Grove special and Hokkaido rolls, which were both delicious. We also got the lamb lollipops which were a nice balance to all of the sashimi plates. We finished the meal with amaebi nigiri which was a perfect ending to this meal. The service is friendly our server seemed a bit shy but served us well. The food took a little long to come out, and the main course came out before the appetizer. However the fish was great especially the pepper fin on the appetizer. We enjoyed the presentation of the food, it looked very neat and appealing. The super combo was such a good deal at 48$ especially when the cuts of fish are nice and thick. The white tuna was the best bite with the chili on top. It was so soft and melted like butter. I've been to be here several times since they opened. The food is always fresh and put together so nicely. Their rice plates are very generous. It's one of our favorite sushi restaurants in elk Grove. The restaurant itself is very clean and spacious. I absolutely love how clean their bathrooms are. They have a small area where you can have a semi private dinner. What I love mostly about Ebisu is their staff. We were there last night, and my son started to choke on a large bite. He was fine, but obviously freaked out and crying. Andy, our server, was so sweet and brought him some candy to cheer him up. It's the small things like that that really make a difference. Also, the owner remembered my name from the waitlist and thanked me by my name. Again, it's so small things that really provide great customer service. As long as they continue to have amazing customer service and amazing food, we will definitely be regulars there. read more

I had lunch here yesterday, a Sunday, with my family and it felt completely off. We come here quite often and everything is always the same. Good food and good service with no problems. However, there seemed to be new people managing the place. I don't know if it's new owners or relatives but I did not recognize them. A lady kept yelling at the waiters out of nowhere and cackling with the staff she seemed to like instead. It made my children very uncomfortable and we all felt that it was unprofessional. My son wanted to either visit the conveyor sushi place in Arden or Ebisu for his birthday dinner. My wife and I decided Ebisu because feeding two 19 year old boys conveyor sushi would've broke my wallet. This was our first time at Ebisu and we were seated right away on a Wednesday evening. The restaurant is located where the old AYCE Mexican restaurant used to be and decorated nicely with tables spaced out so you're not crowded. There's a sushi bar if that's your thing but we sat at a comfortable table against the wall in front of a big screen tv and they were very accommodating when I asked if they could switch the station to game 3 of the Nugget / Heat finals so the boys and my wife can watch the game while we ate. Three of us ordered tempura udon, one ramen and one sesame chicken dinner. I ordered a Volcano roll and a recommended Hokkaido roll as our appetizer. The Volcano was definitely not active and rather dormant because I couldn't detect any heat at all but both were tasty. The birthday boy said the udon soup base was good and I was pleasantly surprised a bountiful of tempura accompanied it. My sesame chicken was served with a mix of buttered veggies and that threw me off when I first bit into them and of course with miso soup. My wife said her ramen was flavorful with plenty of kamaboko, pork & veggies but said she wished it had more ramen noodles. I sampled her soup and it was okay to me. Overall, Ebisu didn't disappoint but didn't wow me either. It was....."Okay." My son said he'd come back. I think we all would come back but probably not as a first choice for me. I do have to mention all of the dinnerware was ceramic on the night we went. Even a ceramic bowl and spoon for my miso soup which you don't normally see anymore.....well at least I don't see it because I'm one of those that love hole in the wall places that serve good food with good portions. So, I hate to be that guy. I come here often, actually I come here ALOT. Mostly during the day. With that being said, the day shift is mostly exceptional. The food is excellent and the service impeccable. I understand evenings are busier and harder. I showed up tonight on my own, just to grab a snack before heading home after a long day of fasting. I was on my own, and I chose to sit at the bar so I would not take up any tables unnecesarrily. The waiter was so focused on some guy whose party had not arrived that he was not attentive at all. He eventually asked me if I wanted some water after placing mats and water at the bar for people who weren't even there. I told him, I'm just ready to order. After focusing on the individual who stated they were at the wrong place, and just wanted everything to go cause they met at the wrong place, eventually I got the food I ordered, EVENTUALLY. Well, I was quite disappointed. I order the happy combo, which is a chefs choice of simple random nigiri pieces. Very simple, but easy to mess up if you don't know what you're doing. The service was VERY slow, it wasn't busy being a Thursday night. Well, I'm a regular here, I come for lunch often. But the quality of the food and service are QUITE different apparently in the morning and in the evening. Not once did the servers asked if I was ok or if I needed anything. The sushi rice was soggy, like VERY soggy and sweet, not what I was used to on a regular basis. The fish was trash. There was a piece of tuna that was obviously skimmed and sliced from an afterthought, leftover piece to form a whole piece tuna as if I wouldn't noticed, but I'm an avid sushi enthusiast, and I was insulted. Then they had a couple sloppy pieces that just fell apart and mind you, I checked for wasabi between each piece of nigiri which was non existent when expected. My favorite part of the meal mind you. When I was ready to pay, the waiter seemed surprised that this was all I wanted. No man, I'm not spending more money on trash. I love this place, and have always praised it to people, but the night crew sucks compared to the day crew. Come here for lunch, don't come here for dinner. However the fish pieces were like scrap leftovers and were not treated very well. The sizes were not uniform and not cut through completely. The salmon was grilled well and not over cooked. However the seasoning was lacking. It shouldn't be overwhelmed with salt or sugar but it needs some expression of flavor. It was ok that the mixed vegetables on the side was lightly seasoned, but when combined with white rice and the bland salmon the overall dish comes out flat. read more

I was surprised at myself for liking the special Double Toro, which has the most rave reviews on Yelp, so that one was a good choice. My uncle had the ramen, and he thought it "blah." So if we ever go back here, it's more for the wow-factor of the elegant sushi rolls. I am surprised by so many positive reviews but since it was rated so high. I was really looking forward to this place since it's closer to home. Came in with my hungry husband, 14 year old and 7 year old boys for dinner. I wished I could have spent my money else where! When we arrived, it wasn't busy, definitely multiple tables available. I asked the server and he's like oh our kitchen is understaffed. Hmmm okay? No apology? How is our main course coming out before chicken wings and stuffed mushrooms? Mind you it's about an hour into our dinner. Our waiter NEVER checked in or asked how we were doing. Never acknowledged how long everything was taking and it wasn't even a busy night where all tables were fulled. However, he did acknowledged how fast we scarf our food down, hmmm there was 3 rolls and 4 hungry ppl who haven't eaten lunch and waited an hour for their rolls. What the hell did you expect? Anyway, our last two appetizers came... and when we were done, he asked if we were ready for our check? Hmmm where is our last two rolls? It was like he totally forgot and had the nerve to bring the receipt to me and showed me what I ordered. I'm like, no, we ordered 5 rolls and you read back my order! Still no apology! Too bad, grew up in Hawaii and our main target for tourism is Japanese tourists. Japanese culture, we were taught their customs too. So yes I'm one of those people and some people in Hawaii understand this sort of stuff. Anyways, there's no Japanese kitchen banner. When you enter the restaurant.....The IRASHAI MASE needs more enthusiasm. They sound bored or unsure what they are saying. Might as well not say it at all. I first requested about their OMAKASE because I wanted to taste the skills of the chef. My boyfriend talked me out of it because he saw a birthday dinner in a private room and looked at their OMAKASE. My boyfriend said it looks like an ordinary sushi platter. So we decided to order three rolls. If you see my photos, you'll see that the rolls were super tiny. There was little rice. Yes that really rubbed me the wrong way. Anyways - I know they only opened a week ago when we first got there. Took me a while to write this review. Like I said I don't like writing bad reviews. The taste of the rolls? Our waiter was very attentive and so were the sushi chefs. They all made sure to check on us every so often.
