This spot holds so many wonderful memories for me. It was a favorite of both of my grandmothers over the years and so I have visited regularly on my trips to Westhampton. Honestly, I don't feel like the quality of the simple diner-style food, or the friendliness of the staff or the charm of the luncheonette itself has changed much since I was a little kid-and indeed, this restaurant is still owned by the same wonderful family! I have to give a special shout out for the Mac salad... if you are having a lunch item definitely pick this as your side! As always, everyone at my table, enjoyed all of the different dishes they ordered. As noted that staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Super cute vintage style diner located off the beaten path in Westhampton. I came here with my mom after we saw them featured on News12 because my mom loves old things. We sat at a table that was part church pew, part table and chair set. They have a ton of historical magazines on display as well as some vintage items for purchase since this place has been around forever. We decided to split Eggs Benedict and the Monte Cristo sandwich which I'd never heard of before - it's turkey, ham and swiss between two pieces of French Toast. It sounds weird but man those flavors just work. The Eggs Benedict was on point as well. Service was quick and friendly, but beware that this place gets very busy. Within an hour every table there was filled and there was a wait. I wish that the prices here were still old timey but hey, it's the Hamptons. read more

Solid 3.5 It was just a solid good. Reminded me of meals I would get from my friend's grandparent's when we would visit them for lunch. One negative was their chicken and dumplings soup... I've never had dumplings the size of tiny pebbles and soup that had more cornstarch than chicken broth in it. But my kids enjoyed their pancakes, tuna melt and we left full and content. Extremely bad service and organization in this diner. Came in at 11am on a Thursday, waited in the front to be seated. An older couple who seem to be regulars, came in back of us, said just sit anywhere, I then asked the staff, tables were dirty so the staff said give us a few...couple in back proceeds in front of us and sits down at the one open table in the back anyway (very rude). Staff still did not clean a table for us, waiting 10 minutes now, they proceed to take the couples order. Then another customer comes in to get a take out order and they also take that first instead. I'm new to the area, but I've eaten here twice for lunch, and both times were solid experiences. Granted I got a turkey burger the first time and a regular burger the second--but they were excellent. My children and spouse also enjoyed their meals! I also love that it has an old-timey feel. If I'm looking for a downside, it would simply be that seating has been a little limited, but that's to be expected at certain times of the year. I stopped here today for the first time with some coworkers for breakfast. I can't believe I haven't heard of this place before, it's been around for a while & is totally classic. You know, that old timey ice cream parlor/ brunch cafe feel. I went with a party of 4, we all ordered something different & everyone was very satisfied with their respective meals. I also asked them for a plain bagel toasted dark with just a little cream cheese, to go. The bagel was exactly how I ordered it & I was spared a nice cream cheese stain while driving. I will definitely be returning for a Sunday brunch in the near future. My recommendation? If you're near by stop here, if you're not near by... stop here. read more

Eckart's is essentially a diner, and it's a good one. This place is as charming as all get out (whatever 'all get out' actually means), and much cleaner than you'd think considering it's 100 years old.* The downside of being around for 100 years is that people have heard of you, and during the summer I'm sure waits are insane on the weekends. But in the winter, you should be able to get a table without much trouble. As far as I can tell, breakfast is the move. Eggs, toast, potatoes...they do it, and they do it well. I'd add a side of corned beef hash to anything you get, too. It's what's good. Actually, I might just ask for corned beef hash with a few eggs on top. When it comes to lunch, Big Ray is my dude. I don't know who he actually is, but he seems to like BBQ sauce, American cheese, and onion rings on everything, and I can get behind that. The only downside is that he seems to also like his burgers well done (even if you order them medium rare)...but that's kind of how diners roll. Corned beef hash. I have not lived out East in over ten years, but Eckart's still holds a place in my heart...or more so in my belly. Back then I was not diagnosed with Celiac and could eat what I wanted and when we would stop when in that neck of the woods I would almost always have one of their amazing Monte Cristo's and an out of this world vanilla milk shake. Yup, enough calories and fat to last the whole week, but so worth it! And most often after a hike so I felt it was partially earned :) The century+ family owned luncheonette could not be run by nicer people and you alway's were met with a smile and left with a happy belly. Why I am writing a review a decade after I last ate here? Well, I just saw a review of the place on the Southampton Patch and it made me feel all nostalgic and I wanted to add my two cents. Eckart's has been in business since 1911 with 3 generations of Eckart's operating the business (The present owner, Dee McLain is an Eckart). Without question, it has the best sandwiches in the Village. Only locals know this, and we like to keep it that way. It also has other great interesting specials, but you will never find a cheeseburger that is as big and unique as found at Eckart's. Often on the weekends and summer, high school students man the counter, and that may result in a failure to have immediate refills of coffee (god forbid), but there are also seasoned professionals like Pam and Stacey who take up the slack. I have no problem getting coffee, but on very rare occasions, if they are too busy, (or preoccupied), i will just get it myself. Where else can you do this? This business and structure is an historical icon, the oldest business in the Village. I've been going there for over 55 years. We never refer to Eckarts as a "diner," but rather, it is in reality, an old fashion luncheonette ( hence the name Eckarts Luncheonette). Those who can't tell the difference, just don't get it. Tried Eckart's twice. Busy enough for the food to be fresh and service to be fast. It is both. Italian wedding soup was spicy, sandwiches good. It's a good place to stop when you get into the Hampton's if coming in from up Island as they say lol.. for something simple and quick. I'd just love to give this place 5 stars, but I cannot. As a matter of fact, I refuse to. The restaurant, operating since 1911, is cute and contains some of its original seating and art work, a delight for an antique buff like myself. Too bad last Monday morning's staff consisted of a blonde who apparently had just participated in a wet t-shirt contest (her shirt was soaking wet) and two teens who hated life and didn't know that omelettes are eaten with...you know...forks! The food is fantastic. Great omelettes (spinach and mozzarella...yum!) and the chicken salad melt was, according to my friend, one of the best ever made, but the service? I understand the staff would rather be sleeping or spending quality time at the beach or mall, but come on now...wake the fuck up, smile and make sure your customers aren't asking for utensils, napkins and condiments every five seconds! We've been to this cute little diner a bunch of times while visiting the family beach house. This place is more than a 100 years old and is good shape all considering. There can be a long wait, especially on summer weekends. The place is tiny, so it can be hard to get in. The food is very basic diner fare...pancakes, eggs, etc. but it is well executed and hot and fresh! It is very decently priced, especially considering it is in the Hamptons! Friendly but indifferent service (we were asked literally 30 seconds after we sat down what we wanted) and then waited 10 minutes for another server to grab our breakfast orders when breakfast rush was over. However, the food is proper and good and reasonably priced. Plate of eggs and bacon was $6 (included the best order of home fries which were crispy and sliced like the french fries my mom used to make) Wife's order of gouda cheese and asparagus was changed (they ran out of asparagus) was $10. If you stick to the basics it's a wonderful place and it's very Americana kitsch with old magazines from the 1960s. I loved the vibe and the pancakes and shakes look delicious.
