For NYE, we chose Eddie Merlot's. What is so weird to me is that, I have been to PGH many a times and for whatever reason - I never even noticed this place. With that being said, I was using the OOO app and it came up so that is really how I had it on my radar. Luckily, they were hosting dinner on NYE as some places don't. We selected a later dinner option which I think was wise because if we were offered dessert, and ate it, we would have been able to walk out of EM right at 11:45 and see the ball "Rise." We will get to the dessert part later. I will say the place is nicely decorated and reminded me of a place that has been around a while and has some reputation. It wasn't terrible to get to - just used an Uber. I wish they would've taken our coats - there was a coat check and I even eyed it up. The ladies at the hostess stand did not have it under control. They tried to do the best they could but you could tell. We were sat at 10 PM after a longer than expected wait. I would say the only thing that really took many points off for EM are the price tags, but to me at least I know that ahead of time but also - this time around and SOMETHING I NEVER DO was comment on the staff. From start to finish, hostesses, other staff who assisted, and our server (although nice) either didn't want to be there or were tired or something. It was as though she was speed talking. I can't quite explain it. Then the dessert thing where we weren't really offered it but had to ask for it. I did appreciate the medallions, VERY GOOD, the burrata, the sweet potato casserole, and the French onion soup to me was very good but not a lot of broth. The medallions were funny to me though- one of them come Oscar style - and you'd think the asparagus could maybe be better or cut or IDK. Still very good. Great views could be from within this restaurant and it definitely has all the materials it needs to be a TOP SPOT forever, but I hope the small nuances could become better in order for this to happen. read more

I really hate being the party pooper here but our experience was average at best. A group of 5 of us who eat at nice restaurants pretty regularly got together, looking forward to a nice meal at Eddie Merlot's. First of all, the atmosphere was fantastic. I truly love the way it's designed and decorated. Lots of high end woods and beautiful lighting. The views are fairly decent also. We were seated quickly at a large round table by the window. While we did have 2 people checking on the table, it was primarily just 1 server as opposed to another steakhouse nearby where we had 2 full time servers the entire evening. Our main appetizer was the Hot appetizer platter consisting of Barbecue Shrimp, Maryland Crab Cakes and Filet Mignon Potstickers prepared for 5. This was really good. I would highly recommend it. I also had the chopped salad which was also very good. Our group ordered a variety of entrees including grilled swordfish (recommended by the waiter) bone in ribeye, the Bison ribeye, the New Orleans mixed grill (me) and one other steak. The swordfish was absolutely overcooked as was my mixed grill. No one was solidly happy with their entrees. Our waiter was rarely seen after taking the orders. With 2 bottles of wine, our bill was just under $200 per person and the wines were marked up a bit more than most of the other well known steakhouses. Unfortunately, I don't see this place getting a chance to make a second impression with this group. read more

Where to start: the 4 oz filet del mare that was ordered med rare came out more like medium and had to really use pressure to cut through it with a heavy duty steak knife, the 16 oz prime rib eye steaks ordered medium rare also came out more like medium to well done and was such a thin cut for being 16 oz had to wonder how much weight there was actually in that steak. Service or more like lack of service was horrible - try about 45 minutes to appetizers after placing our orders and another 60 minutes till the over cooked entrees came out. Probably close to 3 plus hours in the restaurant. For a restaurant that is suppose to be known for their steaks, this place really missed the mark. read more

Wow... The level of pure elegance and beautifully opulent decorations in this restaurant is breathtaking. Our server, Cole, was very knowledgeable about the menu and put my parents and I at ease during my first night as a Pittsburgh resident. Though we were underdressed, he put us at ease and Served us attentively throughout our dining experience. The food was spectacular. I had the crab and corn bisque, fillet potstickers, and the lemon Dijon chicken. They were all amazing. For dessert, we each had a couple of bites of the triple chocolate cake. Very nice establishment inside. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. We started off with the Beef Carpaccio and were thoroughly impressed with it. The French onion soup was probably the best I've ever had. I got the 12 oz Prime Ribeye which was very well seasoned and perfectly cooked. My husband got the Wagyu steak which neither of us were really impressed with. It seemed bland to me. We ordered the King Crab legs which were perfectly cooked and even laser cut open to make them easier to eat. Everything was great with an exception of the side dishes. Both the Brussels with bacon and the scalloped jalapeño potatoes were under cooked. We did not eat them and the server was kind enough to have them removed from our bill. read more

Came here on a Wednesday night and we were on time for our reservation and seated immediately. The interior is so eye catching and there was a live band playing in the bar area. The server took an extremely long time to take our orders, serve us our drinks, appetizers, entrees, and dessert. It was more than one hour from the time we sat down till we got our appetizer which I thought was a pretty excessive wait. It also took another 30 minutes for our dessert to come and after setting up the table for the banana Forster, it turns out they were missing bananas and had to go back to the kitchen to get it. Our waiter was apologetic about the long wait which I appreciated, but I was still disappointed. The filet mignon potstickers were so delicious. My favorite was the trio medallions since it was a variety to try a bit of everything. It was cooked and seasoned perfectly. There is a parking garage that is on the side of the building and it is free with parking validation. Just ask your server! The door to the restaurant is on p2 of the garage and was pretty difficult to figure out. read more

We dined here for an anniversary lunch and had the best experience! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by the friendly host and our server was came over as soon as we were seated. Sara & Matt took care of all of the diners and did a fantastic job! We took advantage of their lunch special, which includes soup or salad, an entree, and side. I'm not sure what their normal portions are like, but I was impressed with the size of the lunch portions (and even ended up taking half of mine to-go). The bisque was fantastic, and we loved the blackened salmon and ahi tuna, too. My waitress was terrible. My first visit. I was staying at Etage across the street. She never brought my drink even after I asked her 3 times. She only brought my salad and bread but others brought the main course. I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass $52, a baked potato $14, a chopped salad $14 and a beer that I never got. The Sea Bass was Fishy smelling and the potato was barely warm. The waitress never even asked or came back to my table to ask how my meal was. I still tipped her on my $85 bill but way less than I usually would. I had her box my food up because only the salad and bread was the most edible. I should have complained right there. She never apologized for her very subpar service. I just wanted to leave. This all occurred in the bar dining area. Very disappointed. The sea Bass must have been old for it to be fishy. Nicely appointed restaurant which offers validated parking. My husband and I shared the crab cakes and grilled romaine salad for starters. We appreciated that they already halved the dishes and served us. The salad was simply divine! The bread they served had much to be desired, but we didn't go there for the bread. For the mains, we had steaks and they were a bit over cooked to our liking but the flavors were great! We got the recommendation to try the carrot cake and this was hands down the best carrot cake we ever had! It was so huge that even after sharing the cake, we needed a to-go box. Average at best. We have wanted to go here for a while and finally went with a group for multiple birthdays. First I expected valet but you had to go into the parking garage a find these small signs which direct you to the restaurant. The place is beautiful but when we got into the restaurant it unbelievably hot. I don't know what was going on but the staff had no answers. Our server was more concerned with talking about food than serving. He showed up sparingly and the food took forever to be served. We arrived at 6:50 and finished dinner at 10:30. The food was ok but not great. Everyone at the table agreed. So if you want to sit for over three hours and sweat, eat average food at a upscale price with terrible service this is the place. read more

Natalie was our server and was excellent. She was attentive to our every need, pleasant, professional. We were impressed with her knowledge of virtually everything in the menus from wine to beef and seafood. There wasn't a thing she couldn't speak on with very helpful information. We had the grilled romaine, Japanese wagyu, king crab, creamed spinach, and the peanut butter cup for dessert. We can recommend each of those without reservation. If you like to share and you let them know you plan to, they separate everything in advance without even having to ask them to do it. The food, services, and atmosphere was fantastic. we got the pot stickers for an app, and they were good. my husband got the prime bourbon ribeye- i got filet del mar. both steaks were incredibly undercooked (we both ordered medium rare, they both came blue rare) i don't think either one of us have ever sent food back before this, but we both did! when the steaks came back they were both rare (still not medium rare but at least edible.) it wasn't bad, it was just very underwhelming for any dining experience; but for the price? it was offensive. at least the ambience was nice and the drinks were good. read more

We have been coming here for almost 10 years, we even have a server we request regularly. However, the past several visits (we come often esp during hockey season) have been unsavory at best. Our NYE celebration put the nail in the coffin of this place - our party arrived 15 min early but were sat as they weren't busy. Being sat doesn't mean service and our long known server advised us as much. We did get water sloppily poured over the carpet during our 20 min wait? Every one of our expectedly hot dishes arrived cold, the shrimp cocktail for the table arrived in warm in water - not ice, my guests medium filet was purple since it hadn't seen heat, and no hope of getting any of this corrected since our server didn't show from the time we ordered until the end of the meal we all suffered through. We had separate checks since we were separate parties and our server made an obnoxious display of sorting it out, made an issue out 'unusable' gift cards, then after making this hugh scene *suddenly* all was fine. We were literally refused a dessert or coffee menu. One person was lucky and thought to ask when our server was clearing our table by piling dishes onto his arms (we're at a diner after all.) He then got to awkwardly sip his coffee - that was volcano hot, so bravo there - whilst we waited. So disappointing and slightly infuriating to waste a festive celebratory event on a place that resented our presence. At least we know we won't have to do it again! read more

Dinner for restaurant week was just lovely here. You can't beat the price and the filet was cooked to absolute perfection. When you say "medium" they give you EXACTLY medium. We started with the crab and corn bisque and Caesar salad. Desserts were a nice finish: carrot cake and creme brûlée were yummy. Ambiance is sophisticated, they do have a dress code so don't come here in jeans and a tshirt. We ended up sitting in the bar area at a high top and loved it more than we probably would have the dining room! In the bar area you are surrounded by glass windows that showcase the outside city, they have TVs and the music is playing just loud enough to where you don't hear the table next to you talking. Service was pleasant but a little slow in regards to getting our dessert out, but I'm sure they were very busy on a Saturday evening. Overall just a lovely experience. read more

No big deal normally, but upon being seated, I could tell that they were not well staff for NYE (plenty of open tables). The host was a little short with us as well and did not offer the complimentary glass of presseco. Our waitress Jaime was great. Very attentive and educated us on the menu. Food was okay but definitely could have been better: my elk was not cooked to order and my Gorgonzola bacon was burnt. Drinks took longer to come out rather than my starter soup. We had reservations for 6:15 pm on Saturday evening. They sat us at our table on time but then we waited an entire hour before we got any drinks, including water. When I tried to speak to someone about the wait the hostesses would not get someone. We had a party of 9 and would have happily ordered several drinks while we waited but didn't get the chance to do that. The tables all around us were also getting upset that they were waiting so long to get service. The food was excellent but I would never go back because the service was so awful. Been here enough to confirm that something has gone sadly downhill at Eddie Merlot's. Recent business dinner was dreadful. Supposedly "prime" NY Strip was gristly, fatty and unseasoned. Server oversold the Seafood Tower, which came out with stinky dry raw oysters, tasteless shrimp and was buzzing with fruit flies. Made reservations for Christmas Eve. While it only took 10 minutes to be seated l, we did not leave for another 3 hours. I understand that there are call offs and appreciate how busy they were but the slow wait service really impacted the experience. Our waiter checked in on us every 30 minutes so we were forced to go to the bar for a drink if we wanted one sooner. The food while tasty was all lukewarm. We chanced ordering dessert thinking it might be quicker but that even took 45 minutes to arrive. I had planned to tip 40% but it was such a letdown so I cut it down to 25% as a thank you to working on a holiday but on a non holiday I would have been at 15%. One and done for us. A $300 meal should feel like a treat, not stressful. Be weary if you are considering for a holiday. I won't be back holiday or not. read more

This restaurant was absolutely perfect for a Valentine's Day dinner in Pittsburgh. My girlfriend really was craving a nice steak dinner, so we decided to try Eddie Merlots in downtown Pittsburgh. This was the first time either of us have been to an Eddie Merlots, and we were far from disappointed. When we entered the restaurant, the staff were so kind and offered to take our coats and showed us to our table right away. They were super respectful and very genuine in their actions, making us feel really nice. When we sat down, we were asked if we wanted anything to drink and we ordered a nice cocktail at the beginning. It was really delicious and set us up for an awesome evening. For an appetizer, we had spinach and artichoke dip, which is my girlfriends favorite. It had plenty of garlic and was plenty to share between two people, so I highly recommend it. For our entrees, we each ordered the bison steak. Eddie merlots is one of the only steakhouses that offers a bison steak, so we had to try it! Each steak was cooked perfectly at medium rare and had tons of flavor. I thought the bison may taste gamey, but it didn't taste gamey at all! We paired the steaks with Parmesan truffle fries and broccoli. The Parmesan fries were plenty to share between two people, nice and crispy, and got paired with ketchup. The broccoli was not soggy or too stiff, but cooked really nicely! All in all I had an awesome experience and will definitely be back here again for the next celebration! read more

Wasted $150+ 20% gratuity. Will never eat there again. Underwhelming. Paid 14 for 2 bowls of crab corn chowder with no corn or crab in it. It was basically a bowl of buttery cream (bland) with 2 flakes of fishy tasting crab meat. Crab cakes were too fishy to eat (spit it out) and had no seasoning. They were sitting on a bed of burnt corn kernels with no flavor that they called "relish." The filet potstickers tased like mince meat (spit it out) and had a gamely flavor beef doesn't have. Lavender lemonade was more of a sparkling water with a lemon wedge and a sprig of lavender in spit of the description saying it was a lemonade with lavender simple syrup. BBQ Shrimp was delicious. The waiter was friendly but was not knowledgeable about their menus which I would have expected at that dining level. Won't eat there again. Too expensive for the quality and service. FYI took my soup home to go and added my own corn and crab and SEASONING! $14 to have to bring it home and re cook it is unacceptable!!! read more

The food is always tasty, fresh and plentiful. The filet and salmon are my faves! and Patrick provides great menu suggestions. We had Thanksgiving dinner yesterday at the restaurant. my husband and I ordered the turkey dinner special and my sister had the shrimp and scallops from the menu. my husband and I wished we had orders from the menu as the turkey was disappointing. Rather coming from a roasted turkey - we received processed turkey roll and were disappointed. My sister raved about her dish. The pumpkin cheesecake got high marks from my husband and the French fries we shared as a starter were hot and crisp; the rest was forgettable. Probably won't be back. read more
