Stopped for breakfast returning from Reno and this is where all the locals must have breakfast. I knew it must be good because the local police officers were having breakfast there. I wanted to check out this local hot spot and the food was very good kind of country style hearty breakfast. My waitress was very good with a gorgeous accent and kindly persona. I drive by everyday and see the same old guys outside almost everyday so you know they treat their locals right. About the only thing I would change is some of the inside decoration, but you can't taste the walls so not a big deal. read more

I'll be number 67 reviewer. I've never seen a score this high with this number of reviewers so I had to try Edelweiss on my way to Reno. I'm trying to be vegan so ordered a vegetable omelet without cheese and with "egg substitute". It's difficult to make those taste good but they did a pretty good job of it. I ordered the biscuit (knowing there was probably some sort of dairy product in the batter but WHAT are you going to do?) The biscuit was the highlight of the meal. It was obviously baked like a sheet cake then cut into squares. It did not crumble when handled like some biscuits and was more cake-like than biscuit-like. However, it wasn't sweet like cake, it was just right and a nice portion too. The waitress told me she had worked at this restaurant for 35 years (that deserves 5 stars) and the current owners have owned the Edelweiss for 30 years. I explained that I had lived in Tahoe City from 1977 - 1990 so she was probably working at this historic location during those years. She agreed. I would return here again. read more

My mother and I went to take her dog to get fixed up in Auburn, we live in Sacramento. Looked up places for breakfast around the area and decided to stop by this place. Welcomed and introduced in a very welcoming way. Ordered a half omlette since they said a normal sized one is huge. Had bacon, swiss and mushrooms and it was great! We stumbled upon this place on our way to North Tahoe and had to stop here again on the way back. The portions were huge, the staff was very friendly, and the atmosphere was inviting. Loved the special. The avocado sauce was excellent. The food did take a long time to get to us, but it was worth it. Busy fun place to eat.

The best poached eggs ever! We stopped for a late lunch and we were so glad that we did. I ordered the special egg breakfast which was 2 poached eggs on sausage and english muffins with avocado sauce and country potatos. Avocado sauce is guacamole made with sour cream. The whole thing was really good. My significant other had his favorite eggs benidict. He always complains about how restaurants make this. There was no complaining at this restaurant. He was so happy! That made me so happy!! We will be driving the 45 minutes from ourr home to eat at Edelweiss very soon. We were impressed. (Also pick up a piece of baklava on your way out. I don't understand all the 5 star ratings. I don't care if their omelettes had ten eggs in them, that doesn't change the quality. Had a bacon shrimp omelette. Was full of nasty american cheese and the shrimp inside the omelette was so salted I couldn't eat it. The food my friends ordered was better than mine. Throwing five stars up for a place using what appears to be fake cheese and mediocre/inexpensive ingredients shows to me the low standard for food people will have if the portions are huge and prices are low. Service was fine and yes the food is cheap but there are better places to eat in auburn where the ingredients, not the over sized portions, drive the good ratings. If you want to overeat mediocre food and pay 10 bucks this is the spot. read more

Just tried Edelweiss for the first time. I had a sausage, chile, cheese, avocado omelette. Although we went Sunday morning and it was pretty busy, our server, Nancy, was kind, pleasant and funny! I would give this restaurant 5 stars but the reviewer who said the place is a little beat up is right. Regardless, Edelweiss (both restaurants) in Auburn, CA are superb foodwise. I like straightforward food when I want straight forward food. Nothing fancy, out of the culinary arts school. Great basic staples, i.e thick bacon, fresh eggs, best pancakes for miles! Happy regulars and staff are everywhere which to me sometimes is better than new carpet, freshly painted walls and newly upholstered seating.
