My boyfriend and I just spent two amazing nights here for our anniversary. Karen and David went above and beyond for us. Even before we we arrived we spoke to Karen letting her know we weren't going to make our couples massage since we were stuck in traffic. She took it upon herself to ask another couple if they wanted to switch with us. She didn't have to do that, but thanks to her we were able to enjoy an amazing massage and relax the rest of the evening. The breakfast was so good and they were so cautious with my nut allergy that it was one less thing to worry about. The property is so beautiful, homey, and relaxing. My husband and I travel a lot and never have we had our expectations exceeded the way they were this past weekend. Gayle and Mark were so warm and helpful. The small touches throughout this Inn are so unexplainable that you just need to experience it for yourself. It had the quality of a luxury spa hotel while still having the touches of a high quality B&B. The environment that they have created here is the best of the best. We left the Eden Vale and immediately got on their website to start planning our next trip (sooner rather than later). Eden Vale is a hidden gem I'm so glad we found. The grounds were the perfect background for our small intimate wedding. David and Karen were very accommodating throughout the whole process which I couldn't be more thankful for. We stayed in the madrone room which had a very luxurious feel through out. My boyfriend and I stayed here for our 2 year anniversary and it was everything we hoped for! The environment was peaceful and full of greenery, and our room (the cypress) was amazing! There was a fireplace, mood themed lighting, luxurious bedding and a beautifully designed bathroom. The owners are very nice people, not to mention very knowledgeable if you're wondering what to do while you're in the area, and the building its self has a pretty cool history. What a beautiful and welcoming oasis in the middle of Placerville!! The warmth and hospitality, not to mention excellent breakfast, made our stay. The gorgeous room with a private patio and soaking tub didn't hurt either. You feel a million miles away from everything, even for those of us that only drove 40 miles or so. The property is otherworldly with a charming greenhouse, lake and beautiful main house - not to mention the resident welcoming committee, Sidney the dog. This was our second stay at Eden Vale but our first since the new owners took over. It's even better than before, with serene and elegant rooms, a peaceful country setting, and all kinds of outdoor gathering places, including a fire pit and a fully equipped outdoor kitchen. We remembered the outstanding breakfasts, and, once again, we thought they were the best we've had at a B&B, bar none. I would return just for the scones! The attention to detail is impressive, with a pot of coffee delivered early in the morning and friendly recommendations freely offered. I can't believe there that is such a hidden jewel within arms reach of Sacramento! This bed and breakfast inn really lived up to its reviews. We were welcomed by the owner, Dave and his pup Sam. The rooms were all well maintained and the scenery was stunning. We went on a small walk and stumbled upon a pond which you can take a boat on (this is also a wedding venue). The second day were got a Swedish massage and the ladies did a wonderful job. Both mornings, the breakfast was delicious and the chef did her best to ensure our full satisfaction. It is close to El Dorado Hills and Placerville which meant we can eat at many different restaurants and can do outdoorsy things. We will definitely be back in the future! read more

My husband and I never thought a B&B was for us. We stayed 2 nights at Eden Vale for our anniversary. We also attended a wedding in Pilot Hill that weekend. The weekend couldn't have been more perfect. I always thought there was little to no privacy at a B&B. We rarely heard anyone, and we wandered the beautiful gardens multiple times, never once running into another person. I was surprised to see so many other couples at the Inn during breakfast. Even breakfast was served at individual tables though. What else can I say? The food was delicious, the people were wonderful, the Inn was a short drive to the wedding, as well as Coloma and the river. We will definitely have to go back for some more peace and quiet. read more

What an absolute fabulous find.The only problem with our stay is it was only one night. I can't wait to return and be enchanted in another room. We were in Cottonwood with our teen sons - and it worked out beautifully. Karen and Dave are delightful and Sam the mascot finally came around to us! The grounds are magical. This was by far our most memorable BnB! we loved everything about it. The rooms are private, updated, luxury, down to the bed and bedding. I seriously want to buy the exact bed and bedding. I cannot sing enough praises for Mark and Gayle--of course their beautiful bed and breakfast. My soon to be husband and I wanted to have an elopement ceremony. We searched high and low for places. We wanted a wedding that fit our style plus a place to just relax afterwards. Mark and Gayle made everything so easy with less than a month notification. The ceremony was performed onsite with Mark as the officiant. They also recommended a wonderful photographer to take photos. After the ceremony, we had a couple's massage. It was a perfect and mostly stress free day thanks to Eden Vale. The room is gorgeous and every detail is thought about from the light switches to fireplace. Breakfast is delicious and plentiful. My husband and I celebrated our fifth wedding anniversary here and it was worth the splurge. It's a great place to reconnect with your loved one. The grounds are immaculate and magical. It was set up in such a way that even though we were there on a fully booked night we often felt like we were alone there. Our favorite feature was probably the pond, with breathtaking views from all sides. We even used the rowboat and took a swim in it at sunset. Our room, the Madrone, was also gorgeous and had everything we needed, including an awesome assortment of custom lighting to choose from, a fireplace that lit at the push of a button and a really comfortable bed. This is a cute little inn in (OK. very near) Placerville with some ups and downs. I have a headache so I'm finding it difficult to pull out the clever, witty demeanor that has garnered me thousands of fans the world over. (offstage whispering) Really? (more urgent offstage whispering) OK, the dozens-- (heated offstage whispering) The small handful of people who seem to tolerate me. Sigh. Moving on to my decidedly unwitty, unclever list/assessment. On the plus side: 1. Easily the nicest inn in the area. 2. The people who run it are dolls. DOLLS. 3. The woman who cooks breakfast there should be canonized. The food is fantastic, and on a par with the best luxury B&Bs across the nation. 4. The grounds are lovely, and the guest fridge had DDP in it, so SCORE. 5. The inn itself is lovely, both the common areas and the rooms. The gorgeous, upscale decor is a welcome change from the frilly Victorian hooha that many inns sport. At first I thought the inn must be owned by a gay couple-- THAT beautifully done, OK? The straight couple who own it must have hired a team of gay interior designers. Lovely. 6. There were tiny frogs chillin' in the outdoor tub. On the minus side: 1. The rooms are overpriced. They bill themselves a "luxury bed & breakfast" and they're charging what luxury inns charge for their lower-end or basic rooms. However, they're much closer to a mid-level inn than a luxury inn, and are lacking many luxury qualities. Behold: 2. The rooms are tiny, tiny, tiny. Much smaller than they look in the pictures on the website, and smaller than the average B&B room. 3. The amenities are skimpy. Most luxury B&Bs or hotels will provide a wider range of upscale amenities. One even provided a complimentary half-bottle of a local label wine. 4. The rooms have a lovely walk-in shower with fun showerhead tech, but no tub. BUT WAIT! 5. There *IS* a tub . . . outside. It's very rustic, very "70s outdoor hot tub" in feel. You even need to struggle with removing a big, bulky hot tub cover when you want to use the tub. The tub itself was huge, which is nice, but it was billed as "private," and I would say that "semi-private" would be much more accurate. The tubs are enclosed by a thin, woven wooden screen and a pulled curtain, and while no one could see us unless they walked right up to the screen and peered in, it's not sound-proof-- not by a longshot. While we were in the tub, we could hear the conversations of people on the grounds as clearly as if they were right there in the tub with us, and the male half of one conversation could not have been standing more than 7 feet away from me for a good 10 minutes, holding a conversation with a woman a few feet further away. I'm naked. I'm outside. I really do need a bit more privacy than that. And consider this: If I can hear you clear as day, then you can hear me. Us. Every word, every sound. I don't want to be a candidate for Voyeur Bloopers 12, especially not at that price point. We found ourselves furtively whispering to each other as we were bombarded with conversations happening just a few feet away, feeling like kids hiding under the dining table, knowing that anything we said out loud would be overheard. Awkward. Turtle. 6. There were tiny frogs chillin' in the tub. I personally saw this as a big plus (see above). They hopped out as we filled it both times. I thought they were adorable and even took pictures. You might find it less than adorable. Like I said, very rustic, which let me stress, isn't a bad thing in and of itself, but isn't anywhere near "luxury." 7. The construction in the room we were in had issues. Our cooling unit was dripping condensation directly onto the outlet below it. No es bueno. There were a few other minor "WTF" issues that pointed to a DIY operation, which isn't a bad thing, just, again, not what a luxury inn generally has to offer. Would we go back? We might. The food was heavenly, and the overall experience was quite pleasant, but it rankles to pay the same rate one would pay at, say, The Old Monterey Inn or 1801 First for a decidedly less luxurious experience. It always bugs me when something bills itself as "luxury," charges luxury rates, and fails to deliver the luxury experience. That aside, I would say that it's nice but overpriced, and your best bet in the area if you're feeling spendy. If you have freedom to choose which area you'll vacation in, though, you might want to consider going elsewhere and getting much more luxury for the same amount of money. read more

I don't even know how to put into words how amazing our experience was at Eden Vale. From the moment we arrived we felt like we were on cloud nine. David and Karen's hospitality is like no other. Their attention to detail is one to be rivaled with. Every time we asked a question, or brought something to their attention they were so quick and prompt with their response. We never felt like we were bothersome - although truth be told - we probably were. They gave us wonderful suggestions for dining, hiking and all around sightseeing. Our room was incredible (we stayed in the Gray Pine). We felt like we were miles away from everything and everyone, yet the entire inn was filled. Oh and I can't forget to mention the breakfast! It was so good and really fulfilling. The grounds are well kept. It's lovely to walk around and take everything in. Pro-tip - check out the little hidden spot behind what appears to be a storage shed on the backside of the property. It was a pleasant surprise to us as we sipped our morning coffee while enjoying the views of the creek and rolling hills. Everything about this place was wonderful and we cannot wait to come visit David and Karen again in the future. We wish we could go back on a monthly basis - its really that relaxing. read more

I chose Eden Vale as a home base for our wedding anniversary trip to Gold Country because it sounded romantic with the soaking tub, fireplace and lovely gardens. Little did I know it would be the most comfortable, tastefully decorated, clean, quiet, pastoral place we had ever stayed. The two Gayles pampered us with delectable breakfasts, sightseeing maps, and dinner reservations. Every need was anticipated and met. Eden Vale lives up to its reputation as one of "America's Top 10 Most Romantic Inns." And there is lots to do here besides wineries and fine dining. * We rented bikes in Placerville and rode a portion of the El Dorado Trail. * We took a day trip to Tahoe and fit in two hikes. * We traveled back in time exploring Placerville's historic Main St., the Gold Bug Mine and Saw Mill, as well as the gold rush towns of Sutter's Creek and Angel's Camp. Eden Vale is truly a bit of heaven on earth, and I have realized it should not be "saved for a special occasion." If we ever are traveling in the area, Eden Vale will be our first choice for lodging. read more

Just had our wedding here yesterday. Absolutely beautiful. The staff was polite and friendly. The grounds were lovely, i enjoyed hunting for bowling balls in the garden. We came for a romantic celebration and it was even better then we expected. The Inn is beautiful, quiet and filled with things to do. All rooms are unique. We loved taking a hot bath on our private deck, sitting by the fire pit at night, riding the boat on the pond in the morning, going wine tasting in the area (particularly recommend the private RSVP tasting at David Girard Winery which Gayle booked for us). Very comfortable bed. Room with fireplace. Wonderful breakfast included. Great hosts. Also recommend dinner at the Cafe Mahjaic in lotus (5 min drive). Do make reservation as it was full. $35 for four course dinner. Tasty. All in all, so much to do in the area, from hiking, to visiting to leasure. Can't wait to go back! This is one of the best B&B's I've ever stayed in. I was up here for a wedding at Gold Hill Winery. It was such a pleasure to stay in this remodeled, gorgeous B&B. Eden Vale does everything so perfectly. Every attention to detail was made in the rooms. Rain showers, gorgeous bathrooms, flat screen TV's, comfy beds and pillows, great lighting (even romantic setting, free beverages in fridge, AC, french doors to the outside. The breakfast is THE BEST. Great yogurt, granola, egg dish, pastries, scones, blueberry pancakes. YUM. The husband and wife team work great together. Who doesn't want to stay in a remodeled barn that has so much history. The only down fall I can find about this place is that there are a lot of flies when you sit out by the lake (could use a fly trap). The style in the room s are very adorable. Tea and coffee (with all kinds of different sugars) waiting in the early am outside the room. I will be back. read more

I planned a weekend escape for my wife's birthday and discovered the Eden Vale Inn. This is the only place I've ever been to where the property and room was better than the pictures on the website. I've stayed all over the United States and this by far the nicest place I've ever stayed. The owners could not have been nicer and the breakfast was 5 star. My wife and I will be coming back every year. We rented the "Grey Pine" room which has a private outdoor soaking tub. The room is modern, rustic and classy all rolled up into one. This place was way beyond our expectations. I'd give this place and the service more stars I'd I could. As a bonus to EV drivers they just installed a level 2 charger. read more

I don't even know where to begin. This was my wife and my first time here, celebrating our 13th anniversary and it was fantastic. The environment was so serene and peaceful. The grounds so beautiful with various foliage, fruit trees, textures, colors. lighting, scents, and sounds that accentuate the idea of being in a carefully created secluded haven. The weather was grey and wet that majority of the three days we were there, but it didn't matter. Our rooms (Grey Pine and Stone Pine) were wonderfully appointed, comfortable, romantic and just a pleasure to be in. You'll love the lighting, fireplace, and tub control systems. They're controlled from simple wall switches that have been programmed. It's pretty amazing Gayle was informative, helpful, and just pleasant to talk to. The food was great as well; particularly the stuffed french toast. The portions were just right. Admittedly I wanted more of the amazing sausage which came from The Farm Table (one of our new favorite places of all time which we mourn isn't in Los Angeles). The temple coffee - absolutely amazing. Just the entire ambiance was wonderful and relaxing. We made amores our first night in the cold, but under the bright moonlight with a thick mist in they air. It was pretty amazing. If there was one thing we were challenged with is getting a consistent good connection from Eden Vale's wifi in our rooms. We really struggled finding a 'good spot' to help us plan our excursions. Though it didn't detract from all that makes Eden Vale Inn so wonderful. Also be prepared to drive a little to get into town with businesses and such. This didn't bother us because the drive each way was so beautiful. At the end of our stay we just couldn't believe that a couple, Gayle and Mark, had the opportunity to turn this property over the years from a barn to what it is now and call it their own; the peace, beauty, and tranquility of the surrounding areas. I left jealous indeed, but realized we found a jem to return to hopefully during spring or summer when we can take advantage of more outdoor activities. read more

There is a reason Eden Vale Inn has a 5 star rating. Karen and David (the owners) are very welcoming and friendly. Upon my partner and I's arrival we were greeted with a quick tour of the main building and the grounds, then shown to our room. We stayed in the Gray Pine room which was amazing! The ceiling in the room was so tall it made the room feel even bigger. Everything (the lights, fireplace, and even deep soaking tub) are controlled with the press of a button on the wall. We loved the spacious and modern rainfall and handheld shower head combination in the shower. It was raining during our trip but the outside soaking tub is covered so we could still enjoy. Amazingly the hot water never ran out when filling the tub, and it is a very deep tub! We booked a couple's hot stone massage and Erin and Barb were our massage therapists. They are absolutely amazing and I highly recommend them. It was so relaxing with top quality massage beds, oils, and essential oils. Breakfast the following morning was the most delicious eggs benedict my partner and I have ever had. Everything was perfectly cooked and seasoned and the hollandaise sauce was to die for. They also had homemade chocolate chip scones and those were equally delicious. They were moist unlike most scones which tend to be dry, and you could see the little flecks of lemon zest. My husband and I stayed 2 nights for our Babymoon & Anniversary. We stayed in the Grey Pine Penthouse, which I would highly recommend. The suite is in a building with just one other room (the other penthouse). No one below you (just the spa room) and the deck is far away from any other decks or buildings. The soaking tub is fully enclosed if you pull the shade for full privacy. The room was spotless, well decorated and the bed was very comfortable. My husband loved the technology built into the room. Like being able to fill the outdoor tub with just the press or a button located inside the room. I was most impressed by the little touches. I won't list all of them, but you just felt that they had thought of everything you might want or need and made sure it was already there. We booked a couples massage and it was wonderful as well and the pricing was comparable to that of our favorite local spa. I would recommend if it's something you enjoy. We did enjoy the breakfasts in the morning. The scones were fabulous and the french toast was possibly the best I've ever had. We ate dinner both nights at local restaurants recommended by the Inn. Both of which were enjoyable. All in all we had a time and I would certainly stay again if in the area. read more

My wife and I drove up from the Bay Area to visit some old friend in the area and to have some relaxing down time with each other away from work. Upon arriving at the Inn the owners David and Karen made us feel so welcome. The main house has an incredible amount of rustic charm, with a 3 story fireplace that calls out to sit -on -down and stay a while. As the owners were showing us the dining area they pointed out a picture on the wall of an old barn. Turns out that old barn is the house that we were now standing in. The charm factor here is off the charts. We stayed in the Gray Pine Suite. The room felt cozy but at the same time spacious with it's high vaulted ceilings. All the features in the room are on a computerized system that are controlled by a panel on the wall. There was a switch for lights, a switch for romantic dimmed lighting ,another for the fireplace to accentuate the romantic mood even more and if that wasn't enough there is even a switch that starts filling your own private deep soaking tub for 2 outside on your very own private deck. The grounds are amazing with a large pond that you can swim in or take the Inn's little row boat out on. There is a firepit that they light at nightime stocked with pillows and blankets for comfort and even a help yourself chest with all the fixings to make your own smores. The 10 acre property is filled with luscious vegetation and walking pathways that seem to calm the soul. There is even an outdoor wedding chapel that I believe accommodates up to 50 people. There were so many amazing moments here that filled out hearts that we can't wait to come back. Any review of the Inn would be not be complete if it didn't mention the amazing breakfast that they serve.The morning we were there we were welcomed by a spread of homemade yogurt, a fresh fruit medley, granola, coffee, fresh fruit juices and oh my gosh the most amazing blueberry scones I've ever had made from scratch. The specialty of the day was eggs benedict that was made to perfection by the Inns long time cook Val, who uses fresh eggs from the Inns own hens. My wife and I were sad to leave but I know we will be back again. Thanks Dave and Karen -- you were both such gracious hosts and your Inn is absolutely beautiful. read more
