Then picture savoring the most TENDER corned beef you'll ever lay your taste buds on. It's a MUST TRY!! Fatty and delicious. This is my husband and my favorite place for breakfast and lunch. One of the unsung heroes is their amazing coffee - their beans put S'bucks to shame! Their vanilla cafe latte is my favorite. It comes nice and hot, and I pour it into a cute mug when I get home :) Online ordering is super easy. Our go-tos are the corned beef hash with eggs and pancakes, bacon mushroom Swiss omelet, scones (I warm them up in the microwave for a few seconds when I get home... delicious!) Soft fluffy pillows, not chewy and dense at all! My go to though, is the breakfast BLT with avocado. Seems simple but they do it the best! The date, goat cheese, and bacon is a second favorite. I had breakfast here for the first time today, attracted by the promise of house made sausage, hash, and their version of Johnnycakes (which they call "Buddy Cakes"). It's a great, narrow, old school diner featuring a long counter with an excellent view of the grill, and a few tables for two. The coffee tastes as good as it smells when you walk in, and the hospitality is immediate and welcoming. While we scanned the menu, I could see the owner working with a large slab of corned beef, also made in house. The hash browns are made from Yukon gold potatoes pushed through a shoe string French fry setting, and griddled with onions, and set aside. I witnessed at least four rounds of freshly made "browns" during my visit. Everything is beautifully cooked to order, and more than generous. The pancakes were a welcome alternative to toast. Also witnessed their potato pancakes, which looked 100% correct. This place is slightly out of my way, but I will return. I'm sure lunch sandwiches are equally excellent. read more

My husband, mother-in-law, and myself wanted to try some place local and this came up. I did not realize how tiny this coffee shop was, because we past it on the first try and had to circle back around. Seating is VERY tight. I think there are maybe 3 tables lined against the wall (seating two max), and a long counter that maybe seats 10-15 people? Since we showed up with 3 people and all counter seats were practically taken, it took a long time to get situated. The waitress was nice enough to snag another chair for us, but we were in the aisle the whole time and was not comfortable. After about 20+ minutes, some counter space opened up and we moved over so that we could actually order/eat some food. This place has a divey diner feel to it, but the food was good. To be fair, I was practically starving at this point (this pregnant lady needs to eat ASAP!) but my husband and I both ordered the corned beef hash and eggs. Personally, I did not have high hopes for the potatoes based on the look, but they were seasoned really well and was quite tasty. The corned beef came out in chunks and tasted great as well. We also choose pancakes as our side and they were fine. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the coffee (some kind of italian espresso roast). Aside from the very tight seating, I'd definitely come back to this coffee shop. Service was very friendly the entire time and food was yummy. This diner is consistently rated this high for a damn reason! Homemade, super fresh quality food at a great price and huge portions!!! Excellent hole in the wall place. Discovered this by accident after I had a closing at the real estate agency down the street. Cute place and atmosphere. We walked in and there was plenty of seating at that time. We weren't asked what we wanted to drink or provided water until we asked. We ordered the hash with the homemade chicken chorizo and eggs with side of meats. The hash is literally just all grease and bland. My egg was very much so undercooked. The bacon was cooked perfect but the sausage was still raw. I also had 2 pieces of hair in my food which I'm not surprised considering the cook had a beard and long hair with no netting. I was also surprised for it being a coffee shop that there wasn't a coffee menu with various espressos, cappuccinos etc despite them having the machine. I'm generally a fan of small diners but Edgebrook didn't really work for me. The diner is super homey and it's obviously family run by the looks of it (people were cooking in their sweaters and pajamas in the back). The service was super friendly and their menu is diverse enough to accommodate even the pickiest of tastebuds. But despite all that the food fell short for me. We came on a super cold and rainy morning. Parking is not easy in this area. We ordered the Breakfast Quesadilla (chicken chorizo, eggs, hash browns) and the Breakfast Burger (burger patty, butter bun, egg, cheese, bacon, hash browns). Oh and an Espresso for my husband for good measure. I actually thought that breakfast burger was pretty good. It was hearty and super filling but how hard is it to mess up a breakfast burger? On the other hand, the breakfast quesadilla was a greasy and sloppy mess. It was super difficult to eat and the chorizo overwhelmed everything. The hash was just average also. Not cooked properly or evenly. It's a cute diner with a lot of potential but I think the food needs to be more consistent. I was meeting a colleague at Edgebrook Coffee Shop and learned that it was on Chicago's Best after doing a web search. Was it all hype or was the food legit? It's easy to pass by Edgebrook Coffee Shop without noticing this place. From the outside, you wouldn't have guessed that they do much more than coffee. The menu has a range of sweet and savory dishes from omelets, hashes, to burgers and the prices are completely reasonable. I went with the chicken chorizo with eggs served sunny side up for a lighter option and it was delicious. The mixture of chorizo, beans, poblanos, and corn was probably one of the best things I've eaten in the new year and still on my mind to this day. Great service and music reminiscent of a 60's diner, Edgebrook locals are fortunate to have a diner of this magnitude in their neighborhood. First, let me say that I have been a customer of this location for at least 15 years, and the business has changed hands four or five times. I was there recently, and ordered eggs and well done hash browns. The hash browns were hardly cooked, dripping with grease, and barely warm. I sent them back and repeated that I had ordered them well done. They came back still hardly cooked, still very greasy and very hot - like they were either just flash heated or put in a microwave. A solid diner that is usually packed with regulars. It has the look of an old school, diner-relic, leftover from Edgebrook's hay-days but contains a flavor comparable to many Chicago brunch havens. Sit, sip coffee, chit chat a bit with Chris, eat your food and scoot your butt for the next patron. You're gonna find a couple chefs dishing up some great breakfast here. I've been visiting now for over a year. I usually get my grub to go, since my trek isn't long. My two favorite options would be the breakfast sandwich and the hash skillets. Get the breakfast sandwich with pulled pork. Their PP is seasoned, then topped with two eggs your way, choice of cheese and some diced house browns. (Diced potatoes with herbs) I like the eggs over-easy, so it's grilled but runny all over the place and I can get some yolk intertwined with my potatoes as well. Of the hashes, I will share with you that my Ma prefers the corned beef hash. The difference here is that they give you nice chunks of corned beef. It's not just diced up and plentiful like the norm at diners of this sort. Since the meat portions are bigger, you get some meatier chunks & a piece or two with some nice fat on it. This is also tossed with house browns, onions, pepper and two eggs your way. I don't think I need to repeat myself on how to get the most bang out of flavor in ordering those eggs, do I? Last but not least, the diner is complete with an old school looking malt / milkshake system. If you think it's deserved, why not try a milkshake. I know what peaches and strawberries look like; my plate was only topped with apples. Why didn't I order two reuben sandwiches?! Amazing house made corned beef! Sliced thickly, melt-in-your-mouth tender, and juicy. We got a reuben sandwich ($11) and corned beef hash with 2 eggs & toast ($9) - both like we've never had before. We also wanted to try the chili with garlic bread and pancakes with fresh peaches (special of the day), but they ran out of chili and peaches! So early in the morning? Well, it was a Saturday, and they are only open 8 AM - 1 PM. The kitchen was slammed, which was made apparent by waiting nearly 45 minutes for our food. Be prepared for a wait when this place is at max capacity. Speaking of capacity, it's a very small restaurant - maybe 15-20 seats along the counter and 4 tables that seat two people. Not good for groups; come here with 1 or 2 other people at most. We got here at 10 AM on a Saturday and snagged the last table which was awkwardly underneath a guitar hanging from the wall so I had to be careful not to knock my head against it. By 10:30 AM, people were waiting out the door. ETC... Staff was friendly. The front of the house is run by what appeared to be a mother, son, and another employee. Oh, and it's not that well ventilated. You will walk out with food odor in your hair. They have a 3-car parking lot, so street parking is almost necessary, which is easier to find on Devon than Central. read more

It was good -- Great omelet and English muffin, but the hash browns different from the usual shredded variety that I prefer, so were just okay to me. The place has a very charming 50s diner vibe. The only warning -- There's not really room for a group larger than maybe four, unless you turn the tables sideways and take over the place, which would be hard to do on a busy weekend morning like when we were there. read more

I brought in a bottle of cold French sparkling and hesitatingly asked the guy behind the counter, who turned out to be Chris the owner, if it would be okay if, I mean of course if we didn't tell him that we were going to have a little in our orange juice as first celebrational gesture. He laughed- Chris does a lot of laughing- and assured us they were BYOB! so we poured him some as well, which he promptly turned to a mimosa and toasted S. Chris later overheard me kidding with S. about how she should have chocolate chip Mickey Mouse pancakes and surprised her with a side as a fun treat with her just-right scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes and toast. My steak and eggs, potato nuggets and toast were pretty damned good too, steak precisely medium rare as requested. Chris also hand crafts to order generously sized, creamy shakes and malteds using an old style Jadeite green Hamilton Beach shake maker and real vanilla ice cream (with brown bean flecks!) scooped from a two gallon tub, When was the last time you experienced one of those? We hereby attest to their superdeliciousness. AND he packs and then smokes his own scrumptious sausages in a little smoker outside! This place is small with about 5 two-seater tables lining the wall and 10 or so chairs at the diner. We sat at the diner and our server asked for our drink orders immediately. We both ordered cold brews and were surprised at how smooth the coffee was! We are currently both on carb restrictive diet and had no problem ordering off their menu. I ordered the bacon, date and goat cheese omelette with a size of fruit, and my husband ordered an omelet as well! This was probably the best omelet I've ever had, especially since I'm obsessed with bacon wrapped dates. The portion was perfect, as I cleaned off my plate (which I never do) or perhaps it was so good I couldn't let it go to waste? Either way, I'm coming back here ASAP. My husband wasn't able to finish his omelet. He was about 2/3 in and was too full to finish it. The server was great - super funny and personable! Had a great first time visit. Keep in mind seating for any groups larger than two probably will be somewhere along the wrap around counter or split separately at the small tables for 2. Indeed however, this is a place where you can sit down for a hot breakfast rather than just grab something to go. On our visit, there were mocha chocolate chip pancakes, a spinach feta omelette that came with house potatoes and choice of toast (can be pancakes). I went with the smoked pork chop special that was on the board. It came with choice of eggs, house potatoes, and choice of toast (I went with pancakes). The smoked pork chop came sliced off a roast that Chris had smoked for 5 hours. It's was a large sliced chop, cut to about an 1", and was on the bone - I'd estimate easily 1 lb over. Lightly grilled on the griddle on both sides and came to me still moist in the middle as a proper slow cook smoke should give. All this for under $10 (was it $8.50???) For closer to $10 there is a 6oz ribeye steak and eggs and $8.50 pork steak and eggs offering. Through the menu, it appears that quality sourcing gets you meaty breakfast under $10 that you don't regret ordering because of taste or quantity. It's one block away from the North Branch Trail running through Caldwell Woods - improved now with the extension heading down to Forest Glen (and soon Foster). City metered street parking free on Sundays. Do note, because it is a small place that it'll be crowded more during the breakfast hours. We came in just past noon on Sunday just past their rush and had no wait for our group of four. Service didn't slip during their last opening hour. read more

It took a Yelp search for me to notice a little restaurant I've driven past and ignored for at least ten years. Thanks you,Yelpers, for introducing me to an authentic neighborhood diner with great food and service. There were at least a dozen things on the menu I wanted to try, but I settled on the French toast with powdered sugar and a side of bacon. The toast was thick and cooked perfectly, with just enough powdered sugar to not overpower it. The bacon was thick cut, not greasy, and a little crispy (the way I like it). I read in another review that the owner smokes it himself, which is probably why it was the best bacon I've ever tasted, My friend ordered a bacon omelet with goat cheese and dates, and it was a real winner. I'm definitely ordering that next time I visit. We came on a Thursday about 12:45, close to closing time. We were the last patrons, and the service was exceptional. The friendly waitress ("server" seems like overkill in a diner) filled my coffee cup four or five times. About the coffee... I loved it because it wasn't overly strong... reminded me of the coffee the diners near my college campus used to serve. But if you like a really strong brew, when you're done you can always stop at the Starbucks a few steps away. This is a small place with a few tables and a counter, probably accomodates about 15-20 people, so I imagine it's packed on weekends. It's not a good spot for a group larger than two. And everything is cooked to order, so you'll have to wait a little longer for your food. But it's definitely worth it. There's an attached parking area for about three cars, and plenty of paid street parking on Central and Devon. Note that it's closed on Tuesdays. read more
