Terrible experience, scheduled over a month ago and specifically asked about medi-cal and how I need a cleaning but also a checkup. Sat and got xrays, they quickly started getting ready to clean some build without communicating anything else so I started asking what the plan was. They said this was just for now and I would have to come back for the actual deep cleaning....oh and theyre going to stop taking medi-cal soon. I've been meaning to write this review for a long time now, sorry for the delay. Let me start off by saying that they are the best in all aspects of dentistry , from the staff to Dr. Cuevas. If I could , I would give them 10 stars .Their bedside manner is excellent and the service is superb. I have been coming to them for years for myself, never had an issue with them and what helps is that they are incredibly understanding and accommodating. Now that I have a small child and was in need of some dental help they put this mommy's fears and nervousness at ease and you want that for your kid especially for a first visit to the dentist. I known her for quite some time now and continue to refer my friends and family to her. She patient and kind and understands the importance of your teeth . She will do everything possible to save your teeth and will focus on your needs relating to what pain you are currently having and what I mean by that is that she doesn't try to push extra services that you can't afford or need. I've gone to Dr. Edith Cuevas Mendoza for 14 years and have been very happy with my choice of dentists. It's a small office and has the feel of a neighborhood dental practice which I like. One of the reasons I chose her over other dentists in the area is that she never tried to pitch me lots of cosmetic dentistry procedures. I will not go back to this Dentist. My experience creeped me out. She put all of the surgical tools on my chest- instead of a tray. She successfully filled my cracked filling but I felt uncomfortable the whole time. I also realized mid drilling that the hadn't given me eye protection. Just not for me. read more

Yelp describes 2 stars as "Meh, I've received better," which is exactly how I feel about her dentistry. I would give one star, but I feel that's a bit too cruel since the actual dentist seems to know what she is doing. Here is my experience... I like that this is a small practice, just Edith and her dental assistant (who also seems to cover all admin duties as well), but it also creeps me out a bit as well. They moved offices from a slightly larger set of rooms to a smaller apartment next door, which is behind a major construction site. They did not warn me of this when I made the appointment a couple days before, and I couldn't figure out how to get to their entrance. Meanwhile, I had construction workers hitting on me as I was walking back and forth trying to find a sign for their practice. I finally found it, but it wasted half of my lunch break. Funny enough, the room they put me in had a floor to ceiling window facing these construction workers. ugh. Now to the actual service...I was told by a colleague that this was covered under my Aetna PPO dentistry plan. I inquired upon arrival and they said yes and didn't question this further because most dentists are covered by this plan. After my appointment, they even encouraged me that my plan covers 3 teeth cleaning per year and tried to convince me to book another one in 4 months (she was recommending actual dates and time as soon as I left the dental chair). I know most plans cover 2 cleanings per year, but I'm pretty sure everyone only does a cleaning once a year. Anyway, I declined and later received a bill showing that they were out-of-network AND I was being charged extra for xrays that my dental plan does not consider "routine." I also looked over my dental plan to make sure I wasn't crazy, and turns out it only covers 2 cleanings per year, so they also lied about that. I honestly think they would lie about anything to get my service. I have never seen another patient in there AND I can always get an appointment the next day for whatever time I want. Pros: she ads vasaline to your lips while she's doing teeth cleanings which keeps your lips from chapping Cons: she and her assistant allow water to spray all along over your face during even a routine teeth cleaning. And not just a little, but everywhere. They lie that they are covered by your network and also bill you for more than "routine" cleanings cover. When you point that out to them, they then suggest you reach out to your plan to "work it out." Who has time for all of this BS? Also, it's their error/lie, so why am I paying them or spending time playing detective? All in all, I can find a better dentist AND one that has better administrative services that is certified and in my network. No wonder they keep moving to smaller rooms and have no customers. They rely on 10 customers being loyal....well I'm not one of them. read more

I have just plain ol bad genetics where it pertains to my teeth and was never taught how to floss growing up. Dr Cuevas Mendoza is a gem in the sea of l.a. dentists. I work nearby and wanted a dentist I could walk to so I thought I'd give her a shot. SO glad I did, I've tried so many dentists in the area and just could not find the right combination of good bed side manners, location/parking and chemistry. Her attention to the details of my comfort is what sold me, frankly I've never had a dentist who made sure that during my procedures my lips were well moisturized with whatever goop they use. This sounds silly perhaps but for somebody like me with a lot of lip surface area that easily dries it is immensely appreciated. She also has the demeanor of some one who wouldn't hurt a fly and yet entirely competent in her work. These and other seemingly minor details together give me the confidence and comfort in what is typically a vulnerable and anxious place. My experience having my teeth cleaned and full-mouth Xray by Dr. Cuevas-Mendoza and her staff was the best I've had in decades. Her technician was efficient and thorough. Dr. Mendoza and her staff are great. She has Saturday hours. Her staff calls in advance and sends you post card reminders. When you get there, she's patient and answers all your questions. Stay Away from this place at all costs. The staff led by Vanessa is unprofessional. They charged me a cancelation fee despite me calling a day ahead of time to cancel the appointment. They also did not bother to leave me a voicemail when they called me the day prior. When I brought that up to Vanessa she said a "voicemail" is a courtesey on their part that means nothing. The doctor also charges a co-pay of over $50.00 for a checkup and cleaning and I have a dental PPO. It has become clear to me that all they are interested in is getting the most money out of you that they can. Last Saturday in May 13th I could barely open my mouth and was in horrible pain, I came in for X-rays to have my wisdom teeth pulled the following week. The service I received that Saturday was awesome and they took care of me. Also set me up to get my antibiotics. My insurance is covered through my job under a ppo now how much was covered in the plan was (I did not know at the time). The assistant stated that they would contact my insurance agency during the week and find out how much it would cost me , also to give me a call once they have my dental coverage plan so I would know the coverage plan as well. Through the week I received no call from this dental office. Thursday work day for me comes and goes, still no call. I then decided to call the dental office to make sure everything with my plan is ok, was kind of nervous not hearing anything all week. Vanessa is the that stated Thursday evening that she will call my agency and call me back, she then called back an stated that they are closed an will call me again Friday morning. Friday morning Vanessa calls an states that I am covered for 2 teeth and I followed by asking how much would it be to get all 4 wisdom teeth pulled she puts me on hold an comes back to say it will then cost me 200+. I then say (it's okay I'll only be getting the 2 I am covered for) she says okay and reminds me that my appointment is Saturday @11., we then part ways and end the call. I come in today Saturday, May 20,2017 and Vanessa is there , we greet and she proceeds to sign some papers and the additional 200+. I do not sign the papers, then ask her what does she mean by the additional 200+, Vanessa then repeats that I am coming in to get my wisdom teeth pulled my X-rays where covered in my insurance last trip and the rest of my insurance coverage plus 200+ . I stop and say that I'm not going to have 4 teeth pulled and only 2. Vanessa states yes plus 200+ for the part my insurance does not cover. Now please correct me if I'm wrong but that is not what the message she conveyed to me on Friday was, not only what she just stated to me now was something completely different; why am I just being told this now. This gets me beyond upset because I'm going to have to go through my mouth pain until I can find a mean to get them pulled. I say to Vanessa that I am not getting any teeth pulled today and good day to her, I leave. As I am driving I call the dentist office, Vanessa answered, I asked to speak with someone that is over her, placed on hold and she come back laughing and saying there is no one over her can she help me or can she take a message (mind u even if I left a message how would I guarantee would reach someone over her position), I leave a number for my call back and name, we end the call.
