This was my second time playing the HOSTAGE room (first time was 7+ months ago) - I had such a blast the first time that I wanted to bring a new group of friends to witness their first time going through the room as well. It felt like two totally different experiences (my first time vs second), which speaks so highly to EDscapade's commitment towards elevating the experience on a consistent basis. Even the lobby space was entirely renovated and added to the eerie anticipation while awaiting the start of our game. Shout out to our game master Kubo for making the game EXTRRRRRRAAAAAA scary for us with the real time narrations/calling out our names creepily while we played. I felt like the scary meter jumped so high during this recent exp compared to my first, with added props/sets/ puzzles that increased in difficulty/immersive features (including a live actor on the night we played). I was SO frozen in fear, I could barely think, move, or function. The other 3 in our group of 4 were also incredibly spooked and unsettled by the set-up, but were much more useful than I was , so it's definitely do-able and not so fear inducing that escaping/finishing is impossible. The staff also noted we'd be able to use a safe word to indicate when things were too intense. Super appreciate that and good to know for my fellow scaredy cats out there - but relieved that we didn't have to use it in the end! Big thank you to Justin, Peter, Quang, and Jonathan, all who were involved in facilitating our experience! All in all, if you're like me and had played the HOSTAGE room more than 7+ months ago, I'd say it's very worth retesting your wits + your capacity for a hair-raising, goosebump chilling, and mind-numbing escape mission! Boy was our group of 7 in for a surprise. My friend that booked Hostage for us did not mention all the surprises (i.e. chains, blindfolds, live actors), but it was so fun! Daniel, who let us in and gave the whole storyline spiel was so sociable. It made the experience a lot more welcoming. Peter, who met with us at the end was awesome as well! He took some nice photos of our group. They offer a nice variation of props too (i.e. hatchets, headbands, signs). Once EDscapade opens the Nursery theme, best believe we're coming back!!! 10/10 would recommend to friends/family looking for something different ^.^ read more

One of my favorite escape rooms that I've done! A couple friends and I did the high fantasy themed B.o.X. room, and all of us really enjoyed our experience. There were a variety of puzzles, and the rooms were well-designed in accordance with the story arch, so that you felt the build up of drama right up to the climatic moment. Tried the nursery escape room and it was very entertaining. It was a group of 4 of us and we were hosted by Anh Tran and Darryn Partiple. They did an amazing job of instructing us on how the escaped room worked and how this particular escape room was different than others. This was the first time for some of us, and the fact that you can actually "die" in this escape room made it that much more exciting. These host did a great job in fully immersing us into the experience and helped along the way. This escape room really makes you think and brings the thrill of being chased into it. EDscape room was awesome!! Planned a bachelorette activity for one of my girl cousins and it was super fun. As a newbie to escape rooms, I didn't really know what to expect. So we did try to do a little searching just so we were a little prepared. We chose the "Hostage" escape room since many of the reviews recommended it and I'm glad we chose it. The whole set up was pretty realistic IMO. I felt like I was in a scary movie with my cousins. Haha My heart was pumping throughout the whole time we were trying to escape. Want to shout out Caiden for being a great game master with reassuring us and giving us a good briefing before starting. We decided to take the Hostage Escape Room with most of us being first time players. So fun and challenging and scary. As someone who hates horror, I still had a blast and the warnings did definitely deter me but that shouldn't be a worry at all. We needed lots of nudging and hints and thanks to Caiden for understanding our humor and helping us a lot. Sadly, we didn't make it but it's definitely made all of us want to do more escape rooms. We went with 5 people and it was pretty normal for 1 person to kind of stand around and do nothing. 4 people may be a good number but otherwise, definitely choose this one if you want a thrill. Did Hostage my first time, so for my 2nd time around I tried out BoX with my girlfriend, her best friend (thanks for giving her a shirt for her birthday), and her brother. Huge shout out to Brennan for being Top NA Radiant Sage. Walked us through when we needed assistance and gave us the ultimate experience overall. Just as good as the first time, I love how noob friendly this establishment is. Brennan walked us through in the tough times we needed and gave our experience a definite boost. The rooms are immersive and well structured. They clean their area and props well so you don't have to worry about health protocols. I would definitely come back to try the other games or just watch my friends/fam try to solve it. read more

Our game masters, Joey and D.Lo, were amazing and made the experience very immersive. We thought the whole blindfolding and chains thing were a joke, but they were not. She made sure that we understood all of the rules so the process was very clear and easy to understand. Because our group chose the Hostage room, we were informed that it was a horror/thriller experience and they captured that perfectly. It was just enough for us to get spooked without being overly scared to which we could still enjoy playing which was nice (especially as someone who hates horror movies). This review is for a visit from a while back this year. Me and my group of friends ran the Hostage room! We barely managed to finish it, a combination of big brain thinking and all of us working together and multi-tasking. It's definitely doable within the time frame as long as you pull your wits and OBSERVE your environment well, and it definitely helps that the narrator can assist you with unlimited hints with no penalty, so ask away and escape the Hostage situation! For those who are easily afraid, don't be! Besides the ominous theme and background props, you never actually make contact with the actors or directly see them in the same room. Additionally, as long as you have a big enough group, you will almost always be with someone else (not alone). Not only are the puzzles and the main ending enjoyable, there are a series of skeleton locked advanced puzzles that can unlock a secret ending, meaning there is replayability even for the same escape room. The staff are very nice and understanding, they lay out the rules and plot at the start well, and they are great actors and voice actors as well! I also got to try a beta run of the Nursery, and I have to say, it was definitely an interesting concept I want to see more of! If you have ever played Phasmophobia, you will recognize the concept. I won't say more since it's been a while since our play and the beta could have changed since. This is the best escape room I've ever been to, it's at a reasonable price, and you won't regret it! read more

What a gem this place is! My friend Zach and I completed the "Hostage" game last night and it was an AMAZING experience! Our hosts, Hong and Peter were so great and accomodating. They made sure to give us the perfect experience and that we were safe and having fun at each and every moment. The room is pretty scary and not for the faint of heart, which was exactly what we were looking for! I'm surprised I haven't heard of this place until yesterday.. it's a "hidden gem". I love this place. Months ago my friends an I played "Hostage". It was so fun we chose to come back a second time to do the "BOX" room. Given this room is more fantasy than horror I was a little concerned I wouldn't enjoy it as much. Thankfully I was wrong, the room was great. First, I have to say the staff at this location is truly amazing. We lucked out and got Jenny as our gamemaster for "BOX". THANKS JENNY! She was great. She helped use see our path out and slay the dragon. Hooray! This room was great fun. The decor was amazing and the room was fun yet challenging enough to keep you on your toes. I enjoyed every minute of it. I felt the same way I with "Hostage". The storylines at this location are fun and the sets are well developed and immersive. The props are fantastic, fun and functional. I have heard "Nursery" has had no one escape yet. I would still like to try it out to spite the nonexistant survival rate. Given my previous 2 experiences I expect I will have fun in that room too. My only con for this escape room is some of the puzzles might need a little TLC. No stars lost because they still worked fine.  For example when we solved a puzzle and we opened the box one of the hinges fell off. In a way it worked for the room making it feel a bit ancient but I was worried that I broke something in the room . I would not consider myself an expert escapist but I have tried several establishments in the Bay Area, Portland and Vancouver areas. I highly recommend this location, it's one of the good ones. Plus, the staff here are great. So grab some fun friends and have a blast. read more

Tried out the hostage mode with 5 of my friends... we didn't know what to expect and we were all taken aback. It was creepy and there were plenty of jump scares! We got separated, and hearing each other's screams was the best part. I've always wanted to try an Escape Room and this was my first time trying one with my husband, my sister, and my sister's boyfriend. I really had no idea what to expect and was terrified to learn we were going to be blindfolded and in the dark. Since it was my first time, I really appreciated the clues which we all as a team came to consensus that we'd like to take advantage of. We didn't get out in the allotted amount of time and it must have been funny to see us all run into the corner to see what might happen to us on camera but I was grateful that they spared us an extra 5 minutes to get out. I can't wait to try out their other Escape Room and the Escape Room that's currently under construction. I'd definitely try the Hostage Escape Room again and try to do some optional clues. Although "Hostage" had my heart beating fast, palms sweaty, and arms feeling like spaghetti, I had a great time with my friends solving the puzzles and getting a blast out of the well designed escape game. EDscapade Games was the only escape room open on a Monday night and we had just booked the B.o.X. experience without much preface. From start to finish the escape room was engaging, challenging and, most importantly, fun! The puzzles really encouraged collaboration making the entire experience even more fun! My group of three agreed that this was probably one of the best Escape Rooms we've ever been to!! We each had about 3-5 escape rooms under our belt, but we still found their easiest room challenging. We had a ton of fun and that was definitely due to our great hosts, Clay and HHH. Both of them really gave their 110% and stayed in-character during the entire hour!
