07/04/20 - Happy Fourth of July. Once again my sister & I went for a walk in The Glen this time instead of one of the forest preserves. We walked to Egg Harbor from the Glen which was 1 mile from where we were in The Glen, by the time we settled in to eat breakfast we accumulated 5.2 miles. This is the first time I ate @ Egg Harbor Cafe even though I was a client at Chiro One literally 2 or 3 doors south. Egg Harbor Cafe. Like all businesses during the Covid pandemic they are forced to adjust their business model. They have seating outside & limited seating on the inside. We chose to eat inside as it was nice and cool after being outside walking. True to form my sister ordered her eggs Benedict again, but this time had smoked salmon instead of the Canadian Bacon. She said it was better then the eggs Benedict @ Walker Bros Original Pancake House (I think smoked salmon beats Canadian bacon anytime). I opted for Matt's Meaty Skillet that came w/potatoes, (I caved and ordered even though it had too many carbs), bacon, ham, sausage, and Jack and Cheddar cheeses. The eggs were over easy so I was able to pop the egg yolk and get the yellow gooey goodness to ooze onto my potatoes, bacon, ham, sausage & cheese. The portion was a good size & I ended up bringing half of it home. I really enjoyed it even though I was feeling guilty for the carb overload. This also came w/English muffins an excellent berry jam. Our server Alex was also very good he kept checking to see if we needed anything else. We were parched from being out walking around in the hot sun for over 2hrs. Came here on a Saturday morning, and expected, it was crowded. Pro-tip: when talking to other patrons, apparently you can be put on the waiting list ahead of time, and skip the wait. What a time to be alive! Anyways, this place was crowded but thankfully there was a decent sized bench where you can wait. It took us about 30-minutes to be seated, which another pro-tip, don't screen your calls for unknown numbers during this time, as apparently they call you to let you know your table is ready, even though you're sitting less than 15-feet away from the front :-) This specific Egg Harbor is pretty huge. They have a large seating area consisting of booths and chairs and tables. For starters, I got myself a cup of Cream of Chicken. It came with rice and the portion, for a cup, was expected. It was pretty good, sprinkle some of them oyster crackers for a nice crunch. For the main breakfast meal, I went with the Joe's Healthy Scrambler. It consisted of chicken sausage, mushroom, spinach, roasted onion, and egg whites. I believe this dish came with cheese, but I opted out of it, but kept the wheat English muffin and fruit. Came here after a visit at the funeral. We got seated right away and the waitress got us coffee and it took a little bit for her to come back for our food order but we didn't mind. They have a sign indicating that they are short staffed. Food came out quickly and they also worked with us with substitutions to accommodate for dietary preferences. Hmm, I asked for well-done potatoes and was politely answered, "no problem!" Well what I got was very clearly nuked-to-hell mass-prepared potatoes. You know how if you nuke something too long, it turns leathery? Well it was a combination of pieces like that mixed with some relatively raw potatoes. Yummy. I hadn't been here in a while; I hope this is just a temporary setback. Additionally, we ordered poorly: the biscuits and "gravy" were utterly nasty. They couldn't even start with ground sausage in the gravy and instead just chopped up some old already-cooked sausage. Sensing a theme here? Additionally, the biscuits were utterly gross. They were clearly thrown into the deep fryer; no thank you! My wife thought they tasted like they came out of a can. Then there was the shrimp and grits. It's New Years Day and most places are closed but not Egg Harbor Cafe! A 15 minute drive from Devonshire area in Skokie, they offer curbside pickup or in- store pickup. The one thing I absolutely loved about this restaurant is their ordering ability. I've never in my life had a more simple way of ordering food online- usually there's a hiccup somewhere along the way with all the other apps I've used but not this one. Not only was I able to order but it tracked my order and also made curbside pickup an absolute breeze! I wish more businesses had Egg Harbor's ordering capabilities- go Egg Harbor go! As you can imagine, Egg Harbor Cafe was slammed on New Year Day. But despite how busy they were, my food was ready to go when I got there and the staff was right on time to bring it out. I ordered the shaksuka eggs, salmon Benedict and Mediterranean breakfast. The Shakshuka was delicious- took me back to my trip to Morocco. All the spices along with the egg, tomato and cheese brought back to many memories that I almost felt like I was having breakfast in Morocco. Needless to say, I would order this again. The Salmon Benedict was okay- there's nothing wrong with it but when you go from eating something rich with spices like shakshuka where you have so much richness in flavor to hollandaise sauce on salmon Benedict, it's a bit plain Jane. There was in my opinion flavor missing from the egg Benedict. But again- this is just my opinion because I like food with rich flavor but some people may love the egg Benedict just as good as it is so to each their own! The Mediterranean breakfast was delicious as well- we're from the balkans so this just hit so close to home and touched all of our senses. We loved it! Also want to say, for a breakfast joint- they have fair prices. A lot of breakfast/brunch places are insanely expensive that some people think twice about breakfast/brunching but I think Egg Harbor Cafe is fair in their prices for the portions that you get. This place gets BUSY on weekends. The menu has a lot of good variety from usual breakfast choices to fancy toasts to waffles and so many skillets. The portions are just right not too big, enough to fill you up and have space left over for coffee. I ordered a special: mushroom ricotta toast with two eggs and fruit. The toast was very good, just the mushrooms were a little colder than I preferred making the whole toast cold but maybe it was supposed to be like that. The place was poppin on a Monday afternoon. I was able to check in on the waitlist in Google and only waited a few mins for our table. Ordered the Brussel skillet which had bacon and cauliflower. I give this place a 5 star review for multiple reasons. Firstly, this place holds a lot of good memories. I used to come here a lot when I was younger and would leave satisfied every time. I think this is a prime spot to have a brunch. Egg Harbor upgraded its interior tremendously since the last time I've been inside. Now the inside is nice and open. It makes me feel comfortable to be inside the restaurant. Secondly, the food was good and was not expensive. You will leave with a full stomach guaranteed. I love pancakes and the cinnamon swirl pancakes were great. Perfect amount of sweetness with the bacon to counteract it. My mother enjoyed her salad and thought it was fresh and delicious. I don't get coffee at restaurants often but the coffee tasted great. The service was spot on and did not have to wait long for our food. Overall, I recommend this place to anyone who enjoys a delicious brunch. I will definitely be back here again. read more

Been here a few times for breakfast, it's always been a solid meal. It's a cute little place, they do have outdoor seating though I've never sat out there. Service has always been decent, and the food comes out quickly. Their lobster scrambler (one of my favorites) is a unique flavor and delicious. We got on the list before we left the house when we got there literally waited five minutes and was seated while walk-ins were waiting over an hour...super worth it!! With that being said the food was amazing! I was craving a good skillet...I ordered the San Antonio skillet, recommended by the server, and I'm glad I did did not disappoint...Came out super hot and fresh the egg was so on point cooked perfectly the Chorizo had amazing flavor...English muffin was fresh and the jelly was amazing some the best! also ordered a side of biscuits and gravy with sausage it was okay no the special...My wife ordered the Farmers market Benedict she loved it and highly recommends it for vegetarians. So we decided to go here because it was 10 minutes from ABT. Disclosure this place had perfect service but the food was terrible. The waitress was friendly and attentive. I ordered the pancake combo which was 3 pancakes bacon and eggs. I asked for my eggs to be scrambled soft and they came out hard and dry. I sent them back they came back better. My biggest issue with my food were the pancakes. I feel like making pancakes is an art. They should be medium brown with the perfect batter. These pancakes were extra thick and gooey like they weren't fully cooked. They fell apart they literally couldn't be picked up with a fork and they were not easy on the eyes. The presentation was terrible. The bacon was the best thing I had. My bf got an omelette it was flavorless it came with potatoes that were also flavorless, hard and dry. In general it was not a good experience for food. I don't know how people like this place for anything other than the service. I do not recommend and I will not return. read more

Who doesn't love a good breakfast; after all, it is the most important meal of the day, and Egg Harbor has perfected the process and their meals There are now 20 Egg Harbor locations across 3 states and they are only open from 6AM to 2PM. They do have more than just breakfast food items, but that timeframe makes me hungry for breakfast food:. Pancakes, waffles, eggs, etc. One of my favorite options is the chicken sandwich which has been on the menu and I've been ordering for over 15 years.... It's a really good option if you don't want breakfast. There's not much I haven't tried on the menu and I can say everything is really good. Egg Harbor is by far one of my favorite breakfast places regardless which location. I grew up going to the location in Geneva, have been going to the Arlington Heights location, and now for the first time tried this location. Definitely worth checking out read more

This place is a glenview Gem. I love their traditional breakfast. On days that it is busy, my bacon does not come out as extra crispy and is still greasy. But the days when they aren't too busy, they do an excellent job. It's always clean, great customer service and one of the better breakfasts places in town. This was my second time here. Sad to say I was very disappointed this time. I don't remember being so thrilled the first time but thought I would give it another try. The two stars are for our service. The waiter was very nice and kept checking to see if we needed anything. However the food was disappointing. First off the coffee. They leave a thermos at your table so you can refill it yourself which is great however, the thermos was sticky and messy. With covid around cleanliness should be important. We then received our food it was ok. We ordered the Aztec omelette and cinnamon roll French toast. The omelette was ok a little too spicy for my liking and the French toast had raw pieces of wet eggy toast. Ok whatever still ok. What was the disappointing part we're the flies! We were fanning flies away during most of our meal and we were eating indoor! Imagine trying to enjoy your breakfast while flies are landing on your food! It was disgusting, one fly landed on the French toast and went under touching it on both sides As we were eating the table next to us was getting prepped for the next group. They wiped the table set the cups and water jug then sprayed the table.
