Great place to go for something a little different. The food was great and service was excellent. They are only open during breakfast/brunch hours. Usually there is a wait to be seated. Slices, strips and spuds with extra crispy homefries - Alex was disappointed with this one. The French toast was with cinnamon bread; he was expecting Texas toast or plain white bread. At least his homefries came out extra crispy. Gluten-friendly pancakes with blueberries, no powdered sugar, bacon - The gf pancakes were sour, almost like it was made from sourdough bread mix. Very strange for a sweet breakfast item. Good thing I got blueberries otherwise I would have not eaten any. Side of jalapeño homefries - My homefries were regular, not really crispy. Was traveling through on business. This was my first time eating here. I was alone and was asked by a very nice hostess if I would like to sit at the bar. I agreed and was greeted by my server, Stephanie. I asked what she recommended, and both she and the hostess helped me decide on my order. The hostess said she had the corned beef hash almost every day. I had never had corned beef hash, but I have to say it is now one of my favorite dishes. All the food I ordered was delicious, but the hash and cinnamon swirl french toast get top billing. I drove around for an extra 10 minutes just for parking until my friend called me and told me the employee said there was parking in the back. Lo and behold, there's a few spaces back there. I am a huge fan of corned beef hash, so any time I can get some fresh kind I will take it. Not only do they have it but they turned it into my favorite breakfast dish: eggs Benedict! They have everything you need. I had the shrimp and grits without the egg and added avocado. So good and a huge portion. It was flavorful with a little spicy, warm and creamy and a colorful presentation. It was served with toast and I ate every last bite! The dishwasher probably thought I licked the bowl clean!! This kind of a comprehensive review for Eggs Up Grill because I have eaten at so many of their locations. The Columbia location was big and had a lot of parking. We got there on a Saturday morning, table of seven with no wait at 9:15. Our server was great and took good care of us. Their Benedict dishes are very good. We like the traditional and the hash version. I usually get the Mason Dixon which is two eggs, sausage biscuit with gravy, and home fries. Their grits are also good and creamy. We had someone get the Avocado toast which they really liked. By the time we left at 10:00 there was a wait. You can call ahead on busy mornings to get on the list,but they do not take reservations. There lunch menu is good also with a lot of sandwich, soup, and salad choices. read more

I was not that thrilled with the food. I ordered build your own omelet with onions, bell peppers, and spinach. The cook forgot to include the spinach. It was loaded with uncooked onions and bell peppers. That made the omelet very unpleasant to eat. I let the server know that the spinach was missing. She did offer to get me some sautéed spinach to add it myself. I am not sure what happened to customer service, but this was not it! I told her to take it off my bill and she did. I have a favorite, the pumpkin pancakes with walnuts. Not exactly the highest protein load, eh? They make all the normal breakfast dishes well of course, but they make a grilled blueberry muffin that tolerates applying a lot of butter. They have a very big menu with many sweet and savory options. I was glad that this place sat a table of six around 10:30 on a Sunday morning almost immediately as soon as we walked in. I know sometimes there is a wait on weekend days so we got lucky! I tried the Little Waffle in the Hen House with a half waffle and substituted the sweet potato pecan waffle instead of the original one and it was fantastic. In fact, I want to drive to Columbia for a full one right now and I don't even normally care for waffles. I would have a hard time deciding what to order between that and the Benedict because they were both delicious. Unfortunately, my husband thought the Patty-O-Sullivan and didn't care for it. He is not as inclined to come back here because of the other great breakfast options in town, but I will be back for that waffle. read more

You can't go wrong at this fast and friendly diner spot. Everything is fresh, made to order and they even keep a cute 'lil egg counter for how many they have cracked. Adorable. The cook staff are all on point: if you ask for eggs poached medium, it's what you get. If you say no onions, it's what you get. They all seem to have a genuinely good time cooking together and they certainly bring me and everyone else some smiles. There are also super fun regulars (who doesn't love a regular lol) and then some not so fun regulars (why are you leaving a $2 tip?). The owner (or least I think it's the owner) seems nice and friendly enough, but he doesn't seem to have a thing for faces or for regulars which is :-( however, you have David (never forgets a face) who is wonderful and warm, with a charming and lovely sense of humor and demeanor. He is as earnest as they make 'em. And Barton who is ready with a zinger for me and has on multiple occasions purchased my breakfast for me as I seem to be there almost daily. And that is not to leave out the extremely hardworking wait staff: Stephanie, Kenyatta, Melissa and Rachel to name four standouts. I also have a soft spot for Olivia who is the weekend hostess and UofSC student. I'm picky and weird and they make me feel right at home. I truly love this place, all of the staff and I'll continue to show up until they ask me not to. HEADS UP - they now have Rose (yum) and mimosas as well as a CRAB CAKE BENE. HELLO FOR THE CRAB BENE. We went here while visiting Columbia for a overnight trip and enjoyed a filling breakfast. My husband got black coffee while I tried the cuppa cocoa which was a mix of the hot cocoa and coffee and it was delicious, bonus it was served in a giant coffee mug which is my favorite. I got the hash Benedict which I enjoyed a lot since it combined two of my favorite breakfast meals my only complaint was the hollandaise sauce on top was a little thick/congealed. My husband got a cup of black coffee and the philly cheese steak omelet which I stole a bite of. He loved it and the biscuit that came on the side. I really like this place a lot. They recently remodeled and it looks a lot brighter in there now. One complaint is the new chairs are hard as a rock. I had to fold my jacket up and use it as a seat cushion. I wish they stayed open longer, because if I sleep in on the weekends I have to rush to make it by 1. They close at 2 and I don't want to be "that guy" that shows up at the last minute. I usually love their grits, but the most recent time I went they were a little cold. I won't hold that time against them. Their sides are great, especially the sausage patties. The hashbrowns don't do much for me. They are chunks of potatoes, sometimes called home fries, and they aren't crispy enough for my tastes. Their eggs benedict variations are pretty delicious, and I love their omelets, especially the Patty-O-Sullivan. I wish they had a Cayce or W Cola location. This one is a big across town, but at least near my mother in law's house. read more

This was my very first time eating at Eggs Up Grill. I have to say the experience was divine from start to finish. When my daughter and I arrived, we were greeted at the door. A staff member opened the door for us wearing a mask. We were immediately seated. The waitress "Nata" was her name was so delightful and so funny from beginning to end. She kept up laughing the entire time. Not to mention she was very helpful with the menu. My daughter just wanted a breakfast sandwich and I wanted an omelet. She ordered a sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich with a cup of hot chocolate. I ordered the shrimp and grits omelet with a cup of coffee. My daughter and I both thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The place has a great atmosphere and very polite staff. I will most definitely be returning and I highly recommend you try this wonderful breakfast spot. Go check it out. Latawney was nice, smiley, helpful. Food: 5/5 although it is a breakfast place, they had a large menu, & everything was homemade. I got their corned beef hash...delicious! The rest is regular: eggs, bacon, pancakes..but still all good! The only thing that was a bit of a letdown was their biscuits and gravy. Their gravy was so thin and flavorless. We were hoping for that thick, white sausage gravy with tons of flavor,pepper, so thick you could cut it with a knife. San Diego breakfast places outdoes them on this dish. West Coast the best coast! Totally recommend this place, hungover or not. Food was on point, and all the servers were nice...except the dude w/the black glasses at the front taking names and ringing people up. Visiting Columbia to visit an old friend who was passing through. No breakfast at the hotel, so we ventured out and found the Eggs Up. Our server, Jennifer, was a big help. She talked us through the menu and helped narrow things down. I wasn't looking for a big meal and just ordered sausage links with grits and eggs. Eggs were perfect and everything was delicious. My friend went on a shopping spree and ordered a little of everything. He managed to eat almost all of it and commented on how good it all was. Coffee stayed full and hot. I currently live in a fairly breakfast-deficient land, and welcome a great place for the morning meal. This place is the real deal! We checked in fairly early, and the place was getting pretty full as we were leaving. Looks like they do a good business, and from what I saw on this visit, they deserve it! I love eggs benedict but have never had hash before, so I went for it. Pretty good! Hollandaise tasted perfect and the eggs were poached just right! The french toast was one of the best I have ever had! Perfectly sweet and crunchy! Food came out fast and server was attentive. To be honest, the hostess almost turned us off to staying. She said it would be about 15 minutes in a deterrant way. When we noticed there was space at the bar, we asked if we could sit there. She then asked the people before us if they wanted the counter and they said they didn't care. Then she looked at us and told us it is first come first serve so they can have it. The counter was never offered and because we pointed it out, she gave it to someone else. Nothing I have ever experienced and was not actually thrilled about.
