I normally don't like franchise but Eggs Up Grill knows how to do a franchise. I recommend you try the sweet potato pecan waffle, the loaded home fries platter and add cheese to the grits. My nephew loved his kids meal and we had to order him an extra egg and cheese omelet and my mother ordered an extra waffle to go!!! The staff was very warm and inviting. Eggs Up is one of the better breakfast places in town, so I'm giving them four stars, but they teeter on a three for two reasons: (1) it would be much easier to bring folks in if they had a vegan option or two (something cheap and easy like having an oatmilk oatmeal option would be enough) - right now it's a hindrance and (2) they don't do carry-out (I get that they are busy, but does having me take up a chair at the bar and then pack it up make things easier for them?) There are a few locations in Columbia South Carolina. This one is easy to get to, ample parking. I ordered the steak and eggs medium rare, And a hot coffee. Service was quick. My server was polite. I sat at the counter which gave me a chance to see how the servers and cooks interact. The counter overlooks the cooks. Well oiled machine here back and front of the house. So I'm a recent (last 3 months) transplant from the West Coast. I have lived all over the country, visited several places outside of the US, love the dining experience and make it a point to try and experience new cuisines and cultural foods and staple locations everywhere I go. Textures, flavors and overall mouthfeel are very important w/ the dining experience and the smallest Mom and Pop place usually blows the socks off any chain restaurant when it comes to food. So ... after seeing the reviews for this place I decided to stop in and sadly, I wish I had not. The food was bland to the point I wasn't sure what I was eating w/o even basic salt/pepper so it was very underwhelming. The potatoes were undercooked w/ that raw crunch in the middle, the grits were more line a slime than a cream and the sausage gravy tasted like nothing at all. Their biscuit was super dense like it had not been allowed to rise or was frozen when the dough was first mixed and also lacked any sort of flavor profile. Then to top it all off, the sausage tasted like it had been previously frozen. I will say they prepped the eggs well to my liking but, a good egg cannot save a meal when it's only 20% of it sadly. I'd say save your money for something of better quality or just make it yourself and be much happier with the end result. This was my second trip to Eggs Up, and Kelsay's first... and we have nothing but great things to say! Kelsay got the "Slices, Strips and Spuds" plate that features two slices of french toast, home fries and bacon. I got the "Fruited Plain" which is french toast topped with fresh strawberries, blueberries and bananas. Let me tell you, the french toast here is some of the best we've had in Columbia. It's thick and really has a great cinnamon flavor, and once you slap some syrup on there it's a done deal! Kelsay loved the home fries, and I was jealous I didn't have any myself. My cousin and I stopped here for lunch on yesterday, Friday, September 2nd, 2017. We came in at 1:30pm and they closed at 2pm. I ordered the burger with home fries and she ordered the traditional home fries. The burgers are pre-made patties. That didn't have any bearings on the flavor of the burger. Went here for the first time with our lunch group. Arrived around 11:10 and were immediately seated. I've heard that the line is pretty long if you go for an earlier breakfast. Two out of our five man group had been here before and one said it was his daughter's favorite restaurant. This was my first visit. The menu is loaded with good stuff for breakfast and has a nice choice of lunch sandwiches and soups, wraps, etc. Since it was lunch time and I'd already had breakfast I tried the Patty Melt and a cup of Clam Chowder with coffee. The Clam Chowder was very good, as was the Patty Melt. I would order it again. My friend next to me with with breakfast, ordering the hash, eggs, side of biscuits and gravy, and I think there were other things on his plate. Quite a bit of food! I tried a bite of his hash and it was the best hash I have ever had. I will go back and try some eggs, hash and bacon on my next trip. The others in my group ordered cinnamon bread french toast, a huge turkey and something sandwich and a Philly Steak Omelet. Everybody enjoyed their meal. The waitress was great, coming back to check on our food and offering refills. Definitely a great find and I will go back. Parking is a bit limited based off how many people can actually fit in the restaurant. I'm not much of a coffee drinker, so I preferred more of the chocolatey taste. I ordered a medium steak and got medium rare, but the flavor made up for it. It was perfectly seasoned!
