I ordered the eggs florentine with potatoes. The spinach had a weird taste to it, so I asked for a side of ham and removed the spinach (They charged me $3 for a side of ham). There was barely any hollandaise sauce as well. The potatoes were even more disappointing. They were unseasoned and overly fried and burnt and was mostly fried potato skins. As far as the ambience, it's young and modern. The service was good. My coffee was refilled twice, without me having my ask. There is a lot of clutter on the tables, jams, ketchup, butter etc, which makes it look like all the tables are dirty. My bill ended up being $21 for mediocre meal and coffee. I went here without reading reviews- Yes, its a novel idea these days but one that I should try doing more often. Sometimes I think we all read reviews and make judgments before we actually try a place-- I know I do. Anyway, the potatoes here were excellent. Unique tasting and crunchy in a fantastic way. The burrito was very good the coffee was served nicely ( my own pot- easy, I mean carafe) and there was cream on the table- I hate not having cream on the table at breakfast spots- its a small thing but makes a big difference in my experience. Really, opening the little half and halfs and having the garbage on the table just makes me ask about other corners that may have been cut. This place doesn't seem to be cutting corners- they have a great location in proximity to the new Maggie Daley park (which is excellent) and is across from a dog park. Lakeshore east - Its a wonderful and rarely traveled Chicago nook unless you live or work in the area but its worth a visit! The food and service at Eggy's were great. This is across the street from my house so I was very excited when I saw it open. I have been twice, just to make sure my opinion was not based on a one time problem. The food is very average. The week day breakfast menu is incredibly limited and they said that it is expands on the weekends. Why not run it all week especially in a place that is not busy. Their limited breakfast menu contained only a few items of interest and they all seemed average. I ordered the green eggs and ham because it seemed to be the most interesting. It was not great! With very limited people in the restaurant the staff pretty much ignored us. Our water and coffee was not kept filled, we sat with dirty plates at the end of our meal. They claim that they are targeting the local business crowd, but do not accept American Express. Really? This is the standard card for business and irritated me that I could not use mine. I really want this place to succeed because it is local for me, but they are simply down the wrong path, even calling it Eggy's when it is more of a lunch / dinner place. After a snafu with the online wait had me near the snapping point, the manager accommodated me and the family in only about 10 minutes more than we should have waited. All told, this was no problem. This is a cute place. I really enjoyed the gyro skillet I ate. It was father's day, so I also treated myself to the cinnamon roll pancakes since I had a similar item at another restaurant the day before. Unfortunately, one had to be better than the other and this one took second. Not enough cinnamon and lacking some of the elements that make a cinnamon roll sing to the tastebuds. My kids like eggs benedict. Eggy's has many takes on the traditional egg benedict, but does not offer the original incarnation of the famous dish. Two of my sons ordered the eggy's benedict and loved the playful take on it. The third tried to craft what he thought would most resemble the original and was let down. Overall, I think it was a good place and my three kids are not easy please across the board. Once again, the place the day before did this. My husband and I found Eggys on Yelp and decided to try it before catching a train. We were put on a 30 minute waitlist when we arrived and were starting to get a little nervous. They were very busy and we were afraid we would miss our train if we stayed. We were greeted by Cynthia, our waitress, as we sat down. We told her we were in a bit of a hurry and ordered right away. Our food was at the table in ten minutes or less. She brought the check and to go coffee cups for us to take with us. She was so accommodating and attentive. The food and coffee were also great!! We waited an hour to be seated. Which would have been fine except we were told by the hostess the wait would be 30-45 minutes. We weee able to watch the wait list on Yelp and watched the hostess sit at least two tables before us that were the same size party. Eggy's Diner is an amazing restaurant that is tucked away in a beautiful park...close to the Radisson Blu Aqua and the Hyatt Regency. The restaurant has a "cheers" like feel, and is definitely not a chain restaurant. The wait was approximately 30 minutes (on a weekend) but we were glad we stayed. Our food came out quickly and was delicious. The staff was amazing and they were a pleasure to get to know. We really enjoyed chatting with the hostess, beverage runners, and wait staff. A shout out to Tyler....his first weekend working at the restaurant and he did a great job! While it was extremely busy, we never felt rushed and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The food was delicious and much cheaper than the over priced, traditional hotel breakfast. Tip: If you see the Eggy's sign and enter the building, you need to go down to the first floor, EXIT the building, and look to your right. Eggy's a classic breakfast diner with a large menu. I've been hear several times and I have always enjoyed the food I was served. I typically get an omelet, but their pancakes are delicious as well. The spot itself is a little hard to find if you haven't seen it before. I have also always waited a substantial amount of time before getting seated. The restaurant is small and you almost always are sharing a table with another party, which is ok as long as we get seated. The service is always super fast. I love mom n pop shops for this specific reason, the service is unbeatable. Our server Cynthia was absolutely amazing. She had great menu recommendations and was very accommodating. We didn't like one of the items we ordered and she happily returned it and took it off the bill. She truly made our experience. The food was also very good. We ordered the tortilla scrambler which is kind of like a version of chilaquiles. We also ordered the Nutella French toast. This one we didn't enjoy at all. It was very heavy! I'm more of a eggs and bacon breakfaster and I can say they always get it right! Best potatoes around- they are crispy and a little spicy, perfect combo. It's a busy weekend restaurant so expect at least a 30 minute wait if you're coming on a Saturday or Sunday (which is par for the weekend). The food is fresh, fresh, fresh and different, I will give them that much. Oh, and their breakfast potatoes are to die for! They are well-seasoned and piping hot. However, my omelet was kinda gross. It was like a greasy omelet taco. Stay with me here--it was like my egg whites were formed into a patty (the tortilla) and my ham, onions, and green peppers were cooked in grease and then put into the taco and placed on my plate. I find myself in the Lakeshore East neighborhood frequently, as my future MIL law lives here, as well as one of my close friends. I love brunch, but we typically go to Wildberry. However, when we showed up at 9:00 AM on a Saturday and were told the wait would be an hour, the MIL started looking antsy. I called Eggy's, and they did not have a wait, so we decided to go there instead. I asked the hostess if I could put my name down so we could be seated when we arrived, but she told me they were not allowed to do so. And...cue the bait and switch. Once we got there (it's no more than a 5 minute walk), we were informed that the wait was at least 15-20 minutes. I was not thrilled, but we'd already forfeited the buzzer at Wildberry, so we were committed. We waited (about 25 minutes), and were seated next to the busy food pick-up window. We ordered 3 coffees and they came out immediately. The service was quick but curt. The coffee is not great. I'm a bit of a coffee snob and admittedly prefer espresso, but for drip coffee this is pretty weak. We all ordered entrees and they arrived quickly. I had a difficult time choosing what to order since I don't care for eggs, and the sweet breakfast options are very limited here. Instead, I had a mish-mash of toast, potatoes, fruit, and bacon. The potatoes were the standout dish. They were well-fried, salted, and plentiful. The toast reminded me of cafeteria toast- it was Rosen's bread toasted in an industrial toaster and unbuttered, which is exactly what was offered in my college's dining hall. My fiance had Eggs Benedict, and which came on mini Belgian waffles and were topped with pulled pork. He deemed the hollandaise "flavorless" and would not order the dish again. The MIL had Chilaquiles, which she ate without comment or complaint, so I assume they were good. Overall, I would not choose to return on my own, but due to proximity, I probably will. Never judge a book by the cover. The place actually seasons the food and that is all you need now a days to impress me. Get the Chicken and Waffles but it's safe to assume everything is good. The chicken was a whole half of bird, fried right and still tender and juicy. If you want frozen tenders on an Eggo waffle, go to the many other places that serve that! It was pretty crowded in there and those damn doors are super heavy but it was well worth it. You can also chill in the park while you wait. I would give more than 5 stars if I could! read more

I came here at around 11 on a Friday for a solo brunch and was pleasantly surprised by Eggy's. I was seated immediately, and the servers were super attentive. I loved that they left a carafe of coffee on the table, so I didn't have to ask for refills. I got the Eggys Benedict with the pulled pork on waffles. The poached eggs were perfectly cooked- my pet peeve with Benedicts is if you break open the egg only to find a yolk that's not oozing out! Usually I'm not a potato fan, but the Potatoes were crispy and tastier than expected. I could have done without the pulled pork, it was a bit dry and not very flavorful. I asked for some syrup for the waffles to get my sweet/savory fix and that was great. Def a great hidden brunch gem in the Lakeshore East community. This place is just satisfactory... if we calibrate our barometers here. I've been to many diners and a few in Chicago. This place isn't BAD... but it just isn't particularly good or great either. In fact, it's downright underwhelming depending on your standards (and if you've tried out Wildberry before). I live right across from Eggy's and have been there twice. Once on a busy Sunday morning and on a very dead Wednesday early afternoon. I tried out the Mexican Skillet, Chocolate Chip Pancakes, their OJ, and coffee - all of which were just "ok". Perhaps other items on the menu are tastier or generally better. The bigger selling points for this place would be: (1) Reasonable wait time to get seated. Wildberry, in contrast, requires extraordinary tolerance of being "hangry" for an extended period of time. Third time was definitely not a charm with Eggy's. The Lakeshore Easter in me wanted to love this place, so I kept going back and trying new things. I'm really baffled by the high reviews, because each dining experience always ended in heartbreak. I had to season the biscuits and gravy with so much salt I probably had a fleeting case of hypertension. To wash down the bland food I ordered fresh squeezed orange juice, which I'll admit was quite delicious. However, at $5+ per glass, I expect a shot of tequila and maybe a cute guy's phone number (especially when I know I can get a jug of equally delicious orange juice at the grocery store upstairs for less $$). We stumbled upon Eggy's looking for a good breakfast place on a Saturday morning. We called ahead and were told that there was no wait for the bar seats, but a 20 minute wait for a table. We were only 3 minutes away when we called. We arrived and they said there is no open bar seats as they were part of the wait just like the seats. We were also told it would be a 35 minute wait. We were ok with that since we did not want to walk anywhere else for food. We waited 1 hour and 4 minutes for our table while we watched other people who we saw walk in and had their names put on the list after us. We had only 2 people. Finally we sat down. We waited 20 minutes for someone to even pour us some water who was the hostess and the water was a little warm. We watched a couple servers greet newer tables and tried to get their attention. Finally a nice man started to serve us. He was friendly and apologized that he may have missed us. We got our meals very quickly and the food was great! That is the reason for the 3 stars. If I wasn't a good crazed person and it was for the service, I would have given it a 1 star. Lastly we waited another 20 minutes after we were finished to get the servers attention to get our card to pay for the bill.. I think it was very busy which I understand as a former server, but little excuses for not being able to seat us quicker and putting other 2's in front of us and the wait for the server. read more

I had a nice experience at Eggy's. I got the green eggs and ham, which was incredibly flavorful and rich. Though I might say it was a bit too heavy on the spice. It tasted great, but I really was only able to eat half. They knocked it out of the park with the pancakes though. Great texture, flavor, everything was fantastic. Overall this is a great place to stop in for breakfast. You might have to wait a bit, but even then it was a very manageable waitlist experience. Service was very nice.
