Ok sooo I was starving and I wanted food comfort food. I was told to come here. It's Monday, got sat immediately but I chose to sit at the bar instead. Ordered chicken and biscuits, and Mexican skillet with side of sausage. A coffee and fresh squeezed orange juice! I got my food within minutes. Amazing and fresh. I scarfed it all down quickly so you know it was good. I added jalapeños to my skillet so it was delicious. It was a cool vibe, 90s pop playing and not too busy on a Monday.
This joint is tucked tight below the skyscrapers and next to Mariano's Market. And it's a great place for breakfast. Big mugs for coffee and tea already set on the table. Big menu with some Mexican influenced items. Easy menu to read with highlighted specialties. Al pastor skillet served quickly. Nice skillet, reasonable portion. Potatoes can tend to either get dense and chewy or wet and soppy. Not here. Just fluffy yet firm potatoes in this skillet dish. Pancake on the side. I'm holding the fifth star due to syrup. Eggy's gives top notch food and service, but the syrup is industrial pancake syrup. A true maple syrup, or at least something a little more delicate would have put the exclamation point on my breakfast. Terrific place for a breakfast.
Visiting area for business trip. Great breakfast. Enjoyed the picante skillet. Plenty of food and just right spice level. Had to wait about 10 minutes for table Saturday morning at about 10 am. Parking a challenge in this popular area. Quick service, clean, and reasonable prices for area. Would definitely go again if in area.
We had breakfast here on Thursday morning during our trip and the place was almost empty! Homey and warm place with gorgeous views outside. Staff here were friendly, quick and efficient with their service. White mocha latte - Yum! Perfect balance of sweet and bitter without one overpowering. The drink was super creamy and tasty. Avocado toast - Too much arugula in this but the overall taste was really delicious. We appreciated how they served fruit as a side. Biscuit and gravy with scrambled eggs - Scrambled eggs were bland. Biscuit was more like having a donut - fluffy and soft to eat. It was a satisfying dish to have overall for breakfast.
We found Eggy's while looking for breakfast places within walking distance to our hotel. The place is very nice and it wasn't too busy on a rainy Sunday morning. Our party of 2 was seated right away and our waitress brought over some water and took our drink orders. I went with the fried chicken and biscuits while my dining partner went with the American skillet. The food came out pretty quickly and it was all solid. I tried the breakfast potatoes first and they were seasoned perfectly and cooked well. They had some bite to them but they weren't hard. They were seasoned pretty simply but they tasted great. The fried chicken was fried very well; the outside was almost crispy while the interior stayed juicy. I love sausage gravy and Eggy's is solid; delicious when slathered over the fried chicken and biscuits. The overeasy eggs on top added even more to the textures and flavors. The biscuits were the lowlight of the meal but they were still decent. One of them was a little overdone so it was super dry while the other was softer. A little inconsistent but they were both tasty. I enjoyed their coffee and my girlfriend seemed to enjoy her matcha latte and American skillet. All-in-all, a solid breakfast spot.
Went here for a weekday brunch and it was pretty crowded. Service was quick. Menu was huge with large diner menu of pancakes, skillets and many more I got the skillet and soup. I am glad that i found something vegetarian in the menu even though it was egg based. Its a bit more on the pricey side for a diner. Ambiance was bright and service was decent
good brunch food but not worth the wait to get seated or the wait to get food. on a sunday morning, the wait was obnoxiously long and once we ordered, it also took awhile to receive our food. we ordered a smoothie in addition to our order and the staff forgot about it for so long that we just cancelled the order. in terms of food, it's solid but not anything particularly special. the chicken tortilla soup was delectable and the chorizo eggs benedict was a nice combo. but the panini was pretty normal. the interior has diner vibes, it's very casual.
We went twice while we were visiting Chicago. The food was good- flavorful and warm. The service was timely and the servers were attentive and nice. It's a bit busy in there and you may end up sitting very close to other people, but I appreciated them trying to reduce wait times.
What a great find. Popped in here for lunch and enjoyed it very much. The grilled chicken sandwich had a great spicy sauce. BLT sandwich was good, but should be made with iceberg lettuce, not field greens. My Tortilla soup was great. Excellent French fries. Broad menu of breakfast and typical diner food. Isaac was a great server.

Sunday brunch!!! The restaurant itself was a little difficult to find but once we found it, we hit a jackpot. The restaurant is a cute, trendy spot with fun signs around. All the savory dishes (skillet, black bean burger, veggie panini) were incredible! The fries are shoestring cut, crispy, and very yummy. The chicken and waffles dish was huge. Could be shared if you have a smaller appetite. (It's a whole half of a chicken.) The crepes were just alright. They weren't thin enough and there wasn't enough nutella on it for my liking. The service was very quick and responsive. I will definitely be visiting again!

Depending on the day, walking into Eggy's dinner you might face from no wait to a 45 minute wait (average for Chicago brunch places specially on weekends). Although it is busy, you get pretty okay customer service - I recommend to sip some black coffee while you wait for your order. [chilaquiles (???) ] It felt more like a plate of nacho chips not a brunch meal. The tortilla was too crispy, the salsa felt more like a dressing rather than being mixed with the tortillas, and the other ingredients (e.g., chopped onions) were used as toppings .... I tried to mixed it on my own but it was hard due to that lack of seasoning and it was more dry ... At least personally, I felt I just paid for overpriced nachos ... not a meal :( [short stack plain pancake] It was good - it gave me back my feeling breakfast read more

The restaurant was absolutely packed. Very nice staff and patrons, with a pretty interior. The service was decent, they gave us ketchup and hot sauce immediately when asked but forgot to give us utensils with our food. The special shake was great if you like mint chocolate chip flavored desserts. The gyro skillet was fine, I ideally would have preferred traditional gyro strips and more tzatziki sauce but it tasted ok. I got the turtle pancakes too and they weren't that flavorful, wouldn't get again. The food was very heavy with no real emphasis on flavor. I would go again and get something smaller. read more

This is by far one of the best breakfast spots in Chicago! Someone suggested this restaurant to my boyfriend and I since we were in the neighborhood so we decided to check it out. I ordered the Veggie Skillet and added sautéed jalapeños with a white chocolate latte. All skillets come with either a pancake or toast. My boyfriend ordered the Puerco Picante Skillet with an orange juice. The food was delicious!! They were not skimpy on the jalapeños at all! The potatoes were well seasoned and the veggies were sautéed nicely. The pancake was nice and fluffy and very tasty! My boyfriend said the orange juice was very fresh. You can tell it was freshly squeezed. The white chocolate latte was the perfect sweetness. It wasn't overly sweet. Just enough. Our waitress was super friendly and the staff did a great job in making us feel welcome. 10/10 will return!! read more

Price was maybe a touch more than we thought it would be in comparison to NYC diners but again, nothing that should really put you off. $55 for two breakfasts, extra toast and two drinks. Little bit of a walk away from central downtown but nice enough. Would eat here again. read more

The food was so average. A lot of options that all sound good but the delivery was disappointing. Our waiter didn't seem to know the menu well (i.e. panini was supposed to come with soup and he was just going to omit that from the meal). He took our plates before we were finished eating. I also got sprayed by the squirt bottle when the busser was cleaning the table next to me. Overall not a great experience. read more

I really wanted to like this place since it came highly recommended. The server pretty much ignored me while being attentive to the table next to me. I love eggs Benedict so I was excited to try their crab version. Imagine my surprise when it came out looking like this. Those brown things are roasted potatoes that were barely warm, just like the crab cakes. The eggs weren't fully poached. I left a tiny tip and a note about the service. The only reason I can't give this place a five star was because of my egg. Personally I do not like super runny eggs on a sandwich. I couldn't eat the sandwich with my hands because it was way too messy. The Benedict was good but did not have a lot of sauce. Loved how the classic Benedict came on a waffle- so good on a waffle. Eggy's Diner offers hearty, delicious food with a friendly neighborhood feel. Two of us came in on a Sunday afternoon and sat at the bar during the lunch rush. The place was packed and we were lucky to have found empty seats at the bar near their kitchen counter. We were lucky enough to not have to wait. Their specials are etched in huge neon chalk on blackboards hung above their semi-open kitchen. Heavy plates of brunch food placed on the counter and I kept peaking over my shoulder to get a glimpse of what other people ordered, to help me decide. "Oh, there's a beautiful plate of chilaquiles... And look at that PILE of fresh toast with Nutella... check out those roasted potatoes." I was narrating what looked good, which was everything coming out of the kitchen. I especially eyed the chilaquiles, which was a popular item, garnished with a generous dollop of sour cream and laden with sliced avocados. Ultimately, I ordered Puerco Picante skillet because I wanted a base of potatoes, and requested a side of red salsa and sour cream. My partner ordered the breakfast poutine and a side of 2 pancakes. (You can choose 1 or 2.) Each of our entrées came with eggs our way, and the skillet comes with a side of toast or pancakes. As we were waiting for our food, we sipped on drinks; a hot toddy and a Romana Latté. The Romana Latté had a very strong anise flavor to it, and it was the first time I tried anything with the Romana Sambuca Liqueur (had to google it). They also have winter drink specials: Bailey's Pumpkin Latté, Caribbean Nutella Hot Cocoa, Mexican Coffee (hint: tequila!), and Mexican Homemade Eggnog, and Mexican Hot Cocoa. Every single item sounded like a hug for your soul against the bone-chilling Chicago winter outside. I loved the food and friendly service here. Everything is freshly made and I even heard a customer further down the bar say to the staff, "I wish I lived here. I come here every time I'm in town and I'm from Virginia." Eggy's Diner fosters that loyalty through their simply-stated and quality food. I'm glad I was introduced to this lovely sanctuary of a diner. If I lived in the neighborhood, I'd become a regular. It's 4 star review leaning towards 5, because I want to try a few other things on their menu. "5 stars" to me means undeniably a consistent favorite, and so I can't wait to be back for chilaquiles, a pastrami panini, their tortilla soup... it might as well be everything coming out of their kitchen. PS - I loved sitting at the bar. If you ever have trouble deciding what you want, you can gaze at the orders up on the kitchen counter. read more

We stopped by Eggy's while helping a friend move into his new apt nearby. Their menu is really extensive and had a ton of good options. I got the chicken and waffles cause I was craving some fried chicken. Presentation was really on point, no surprises. The fried chicken was lightly battered but I thought it was a bit dry and not as flavorful as I wanted. The waffle was just OK. I was expecting it a bit more crispy, but it felt a bit floury/doughy for me. It definitely gets busy around here on weekends for brunch. We came here around 130 and waited like 20mins, so we definitely beat the rush. I tried my friends gyros skillet and it was super good! For sure I just picked the wrong dish at this place so I'll definitely be back to try something else when I'm in the area again! read more

I picked Eggy's for breakfast because it was a 10 minute walk from my hotel (Sheraton Grand). It was not busy at 830 in the morning on a Saturday and I was seated right away. I started with a delicious caramel latte. It was very sweet but very good. I also got the fresh squeezed grapefruit juice that was tart and flavorful. I did a create your own omelette and got bacon and cheddar, and it was huge (they make them with four eggs). I chose potatoes and a pancake as sides and it was so much food! Everything was delicious. The omelette had a good ratio of cheese and bacon, with plenty of both. The pancake came with syrup and was sprinkled with powdered sugar. The potatoes were my least favorite because they had the least amount of flavor. They weren't inedible, I was just expecting some seasoning on them. The prices are a little higher here ($11 for an omelette), but the portion was huge and the food very good so it was worth it to me. read more

"I had to get out of there because I couldn't look at what I ordered anymore" -Mom When your mom disapproves of the food you know that it is just not up to the breakfast standards. We waited for 45 minutes so we were pretty hungry by the time we were seated. They text you a link so you can see where you are on the waitlist though which is a plus. For food I ordered the burrito, my mom ordered the veggie skillet and my sister ordered the breakfast sandwich. The breakfast sandwich was the best of the 3 but pretty messy. Our grievances with the burrito and the veggie skillet was essentially the same: the vegetables were not cooked. The onion slices in the burrito were virtually raw. The veggie skillet still had crunchy bell peppers and onion which is unacceptable. As a result the flavors were not blended together and created less cohesive dishes. All 3 of these dishes had their home style potatoes. These were overly crispy on the outside and not seasoned. Ketchup did not improve them. I will say that our server was really nice and we did not wait that long for the food (probably because it wasn't cooked properly). Also, the atmosphere was casual but nice. Thus, 2 stars instead of 1. I will not be returning and would not recommend this spot. I am shocked by all the 4 and 5 star reviews! read more

A great brunch place in a kinda hard to reach place. After a quick search on Yelp, I saw that Eggy's Diner was a popular place to get breakfast/lunch, so I decided to come here. I joined the waitlist through Yelp, and while I got to the restaurant at the time I was told to, I still had to wait a while to be seated. I ordered the Two Eggs with meat (scrambled, bacon, and pancakes) and my friend ordered the Eggy's Breakfast Sandwich. The food came out VERY quickly, probably about 5 minutes after ordering. The food was actually really food, especially the breakfast sandwich which had a great sauce on it. On my first visit the jury is out. I had high hopes for this nearby diner and chicken and waffles got me! Pros Expansive breakfast, brunch and lunch menu Nicely decorated and easy to have a conversation Service is very nice from the front door to the kitchen and service in between. Cons I was hopeful for a delish chicken and waffles. The chicken was juicy inside and crispy outside. Although an odd batter more of a crispy skin than a batter. It was not hot and had no flavor. It was served w soggy waffles and maple syrup. Clearly everything was prepared in advance and served when ordered. Not a good idea for fried chicken or waffles with chicken on top. It also came w cole slaw which was grated cabbage w mayo on top. As I mentioned service was good. She checked in me and when I mentioned the soggy waffles she immediately offered to get me a fresh one. By the time it arrived I had had enough of the bland cold chicken. This is a very cute little place, almost hidden but a locals place. So we sat down at a table which was wobbly but it was okay. I wanted to order a latte but their machine was broken I was pretty bummed so then ordered coffee. Took one sip of the coffee and it was just bad, the coffee tasted old and watered down. I asked the waitress if I could switch it out for something else so I got a blood Mary instead, which was a lot better and very good might I say! . I ended up ordering pancakes with bananas with pecans in it, after all the things that were going wrong I wanted to play it safe. Pancakes were good. Really good, prices are about normal in high tourist areas. Food is delicious and service is exceptional. Our waitress kept coming and checking in on us. It was great. We ordered the chilaquiles with pulled pork, fruit salad, kids silver dollar pancakes, apple juice, strawberry mimosa, white mocha. The chilaquiles was amazing. So flavorful. Really good with the pulled pork. Highly enjoyed by myself and 1 year old. Nice and crunchy chips and I suggest getting the eggs over easy because YUM. The kids split the kids silver dollar bc it was more than enough for the 2. They enjoyed it very much. The fruit salad was ok, the blueberries weren't very good and overly mushy. But I don't think diners are coming here for the fruit... could be wrong and maybe some people enjoy their berries like that, I do not. Strawberry mimosa was great. Super glad we thought to check in remotely as we were driving here. Still had to wait well beyond the original estimate. We were a group of 5; an awkward # for Eggy's layout. Unless you are ready for a lengthy wait, I recommend sticking with 2-4 people. But in the end, all were happy with the experience. Grabbed a housewarming gift next door, checked out playground and dog park while waiting. Fortunate that it wasn't frigid. Eggy's is the definition of brunch done right. Enjoyed the eclectic customers and servers. And bellies went away happy from yummy smoothies, tasty eggs Benedict, etc. Only complaint by my oldest was that the biscuits & gravy were cold. Visited Eggy's for breakfast with friends and was a bit underwhelmed. It wasn't bad, but compared to other downtown Chicago breakfast spots, it wasn't my favorite. It was busy on a Sunday morning around 11am so there was a wait (about 30 min). There wasn't much room to wait inside, so we opted to wait outside. Once we were inside, I ordered the Eggy's Benedict (pulled pork and mini waffle eggs benedict) with a coffee, and my friends ordered the chocolate chip pancakes and the old fashioned waffle with fruit, respectively. Personally, I felt my meal was so bland. There wasn't anything flavorful on the plate at all. It all kind of tasted like different textures of nothing. However, my friends enjoyed their dishes. I stole some fruit from my friend's plate and it was very tasty and fresh. Can anyone clarify the seating policy for the bar? It has always been walk up and first come first serve, but we were just kicked out as walk-ups for a reservation by the hostess? Is this the new policy?

Potatoes in general are gluten free. I don't see anything that's added that would result in them not being gluten free.
