I go to Eggy's regularly. Every meal has been delicious and the service is fine. "Healthy options" aren't healthy. They need to get on board with the gluten-free/paleo/dairy-free world. I am giving it 3 stars due to the head-banging music at 10am. It's loud enough on it's own. It's a diner, not an underground, body-slamming venue. (This is all coming from a Stones fan, btw). In dire need of some brunch after a long morning of traveling, Eggy's was just what we were looking for. Service was slow and a little strange at the bar, "bartender" or server was whispering in the loud establishment; it was a difficult interaction but she was friendly and helpful overall. Just came back from a casual work lunch at Eggy's and I was very pleased with my experience. Considering it has been such a dreary, rainy day, the restaurant had a very perky vibe that woke us right up. We all decided to go the breakfast route. I had the Chilaquiles with Chicken and it was delish! Very large serving that I unfortunately couldn't finish, but the tortilla chips were warm and crisp, not soggy like at some other places. I absolutely loved the salsas they used. It was slightly sweet with a bit of heat. The entire combination with the chicken, jalapenos, cheese and beans hit the spot. I really like the location of this diner. It's a little tricky to find but I like that it's not on a busy street. The dining room is a little small but it has lots of character. The wait staff is very nice and attentive. I had the "Eggs your way" breakfast. 2 eggs over medium (cooked perfect!!), Eggy's potatoes (new potatoes that I believe have been parboiled and then fried or baked. Super crispy and good but I prefer hash browns...but that's just my preference. With this meal you get toast or pancakes. I asked if I could do a cinnamon roll pancake and the waitress said I could for additional charge. The pancake was cold but that may have been my fault since I ate my eggs and potatoes first and sorta saved my pancake for the end like dessert. I didn't care for the cinnamon filling inside the pancakes. But I have never had a cinnamon roll pancake so I am glad I tried it. If I ever get the chance to come back to the area I will opt for regular pancake. Orange juice was fresh squeezed and delicious although $3.50 is a bit steep for a small juice but maybe because it's fresh squeezed. Still seems a bit much. I have always had a hard time finding good breakfast joints in Chicago for some odd reason. We ordered a mix of breakfast and lunch items: biscuits and gravy, wild berry pancakes, fried cheese curds, and the kale and quinoa salad. The biscuits and gravy were "eh", nothing special. The curds were a nice snack. The kale and quinoa salad was pretty decent with apples and pickled onions. The wild berry pancakes were outstanding, and I'm not even a pancake person...service could've been better considering we were the only people dining in there with another couple. read more

Came in for brunch on a Saturday around noon. Eggy's is BYO, so we stopped at the market next door for some bubbly (side note: the supermarket, Mariano's, is AWESOME). There was a brief wait before we were seated at the bar (perfectly fine - we're sit-at-the-bar people anyway). We had the verb omelette (if I could pick any ingredients in the world to put in an omelette, this would be them) and the Benedict. We immediately regretted not getting a sandwich because those buns looked o so good, but both meals were quite tasty. The place has floor-to-ceiling windows in front that look on to a park and the buildings beyond. I have eaten here numerous times since I live in the neighborhood. Always for breakfast so I can not comment on lunch menu. Prices are fair the service is great. Long term staff that knows each dish. For the most part they all have personalities and are very bright and sunshiny in the morning. Trust their recommendations. Either the people with me or I have had almost everything on the menu. Their specialties are great. The omelets are excellent. Portion size is huge. If you order the poutine eggs ask for a defibrillator as a side. It's as rich as it seems. Great food & service! Nice atmosphere. The apple wood smoked bacon was perfectly cooked, and so was the oatmeal.

Food is great but the service is sub-par. There was an extra space at the bar but the food runner likes to use one of the barstools to place bags of food on. I asked the hostess about this and she replied that the food runner is an asshole and that I should be able to use that seat. When I approached one of the other waitresses about using the seat, she said that I could not because the food runner was using it. I told her that I am a paying customer and that they are losing revenue. They didn't care. I had to stand around for a half hour waiting to sit because of this. read more
