Since my last visit they've reconfigured the layout so the entrance is on the exterior of the building facing the park. It's much more welcoming. The menu has a variety of breakfast and lunch items. I want to love this place but for the price the food really should be better. The tuna melt had a warm melted slice of cheddar on top of ice-cold tuna salad. How did they even do that? I was happy to see several different types of benedicts, but the ham on the biscuit and gravy benedict had a sweet sugar crust. The sugar just didn't go with the savory gravy and eggs. The side of breakfast potatoes was fried to the point of being burned. Service was fine. read more

Good alternative to the nearby "1 hour wait" places. They tend to overcharge for needless things like $2 upcharge to sub your fried potatoes for fruit (watermelon and grapes). Previously charged $2 for egg whites but think they've stopped that crazy practice now. read more

No. Just no. Arrived, was told it was a 45 minute wait and that they would text me when my table was ready and to download the yelp app to see my place in line. Waited an hour and 15 minutes, kept checking the app. At an hour wait we went in to ask how much longer because the app said there were 8 people ahead of us and we already waited our time. They told us 2 people were ahead of us so their waitlist isn't accurate. We got seated and ordered drinks (which were delicious, I will give them that) and food. I ordered strawberry lemon pancakes that were awful. Nothing was fresh. The strawberries were in some sort of jelly (not a homemade compote). And my friend ordered chocolate chip pancakes and another girl ordered banana pancakes and both came out with ingredients on top and nothing inside the pancake. Hey, they are called eggys for a reason and not pancake-ys. Overall it took a long time to get seated and for food to arrive and the food was subpar. Would not recommend. read more

One of the worst experiences I've had, hostess wouldn't seat us even after we got our message saying "table is ready" message.The hostess took 45 mins and 3 trips to her asking why we didn't get seated even though they said our table was ready. EXACTLY what out of towners need to feed that monster in your gut after the train ride, from what could be best described as a trip through the multiple levels of hell, we arrived; hungry, angry and confused. Mary was superb in her service to help slay the hunger dragon and the onslaught of what was to be a nightmare, only compared to the pain of sliding up a 50' razor blade (which honestly, would've been better) a certain train company attempted to ruin our vacation. So we yelped his restaurant and clicked the waitlist. We got there right when it said to and we still had to wait 45 more minutes. That was out only complaint. Service was amazing. My kids, two aged ten and an eight year old, all got the eggs Benedict and all three LOVED IT! My husband got a skillet and the cinnamon roll pancakes which were amazing also. I am extremely disappointed!!!!!! For months I passed the placard on the bottom floor of the escalator to Mariano's reading "coming soon, Eggy's" and hoped for another wonderful breakfast spot to add to the constant rotation of Yolk, Wildberry's, D4 (when Yolk's wait is too long) and West Egg Cafe. The disappointment began on the day of Eggy's "soft opening". While walking to Mariano's the weekend of the soft opening (i don't recall if it was actually saturday or sunday) I noticed the window decal reading "Yes, We're Open". In the few short steps between the dog park and the door to Eggy's, I saw two couples enter Eggy's and the excitement hit! Awesome, it's finally open!! Forget the Mariano's breakfast buffet. WRONG! Rather embarrassing! As i was ejected from Eggy's, I made sure to take a second, long hard look at the entrance and door to ensure I didn't miss the sign to caveat the "Yes, We Are Open" reading "But Only For Friends or Family of the Owners/Employees". There wasn't one. (of note -soft openings are an industry standard. put up a sign or take in the costumers who walk in your door. I went to Wildberry's soft opening. Yes it was for "friends and family" of which I'm neither, (more of a boyfriend of a coworker of a friend of an employee). However, they took me in, took the loss on a 7 dollar omelet and made a returning costumer.) If you can't afford to have a soft opening. DO NOT HAVE ONE. Don't fake it. Fast forward to weeks later: Yes, I vowed to not want to return to Eggy's after my first pathetic experience, but decided to finally give it a real, open-minded chance. Monday 30 April 2012. The Good: 1)Jessica: Our waitress. Cordial, inviting, knowledgeable of the menu and restaurant. A solid employee. Great interpersonal skills and confidence. No issues. The Bad: 1) Hostess? Not on a Monday morning. Instead, my girlfriend and I were greeted by two different people after a few minutes of awkward contemplation on "where do we sit? Bar at the window, the other bar in the back or chance having to sit on top of another couple already seated around the walls of the place" I didn't know which one to talk to, because.... no uniforms? 2) Uniforms: Ok, I get it, the place wants to be "local" and "feel like you are hanging out in a familiar environment". But I don't hang out in forever 21??? I think the only person who gets it was the hispanic guy wearing a grey Eggy's t-shirt who brought us water when we sat. Jeans and a t-shirt are perfectly suitable, but the rest of the staff needed a reminder decency, uniformity and standards for appearance. Also, not to be considerably rude, but a few of the waitresses need to realize just because you can squeeze into the petite section of forever 21 does not mean you should. 3) Disjointed service: A few people "sat" us. The hispanic guy wearing the uniform brought us water. Some other girl took our drink order. Jessica took our food order and brought our drinks. Some guy (who I'm thinking is the Chef because he kind of looks like the caricature on the entrance door) brought us our food (minus the sides of butter). The girl who took our drink order brought us the jelly for our toast and some butter when we asked...... ? Meanwhile, as a guest, I felt anxious because the entire staff is sort of "hovering". There is a difference between attentive service and forced lingering. But it appeared as though the service staff were forced to stay out on the floor in front of the kitchen station their entire shift. Maybe they need a spot to hide when they are not engaging a costumer? 4) Food: Very small portions. Toast as a side, ONLY ONE PIECE? Really? Eggs had TOO MUCH PEPPER on my omelet. Tough to eat. In total 2 meals: 1 egg white omelet with an ounce of cheese and one piece of crumpled bacon inside, 2 fruit cups (consisting of about 3 ounces combined of a little bit of banana, apple and pineapple) 2 poached eggs, 2 pieces of bacon and 2 slices of toast (one per breakfast), 1 can (yes, a can) of diet coke plus tax and tip.... 30 dollars. 30 dollars for breakfast is average in Chicago, but the quality and quantity from Eggy's is FAR INFERIOR to Chicago counterparts within walking/crawling distance. 5) Decor: Get some booths. When relegated to sit at the tables lining the interior walls you become a part of everyone's conversation. This morning I was a part of a meeting. (The caricature chef guy, one of the first people who greeted me, some random asian woman who was a patron eating breakfast with what looked like her family when i arrived, a forever 21 waitress and some guy who came out from the door in the back) took up residence at a table and broke out the yellow notepads during my breakfast. Find an office, seriously, or get a table at Wildberry's or Yolk or IHOP and take some pointers from people who are doing it right. I won't be back. Wow, I can't see where some people could possible give five stars, nothing was good about my visit. Went for my first time on the 5th of July, because there was a 35 minute wait at Wildberries, what a mistake. We waited at least 45 minutes for pancakes, eggs/bacon, and an omlette, in a half full restaurant. When I question our server on the status of the order, I was told that she "saw the omlette and pancakes up, but I am sure they will bring them when the other comes up". Really, so that means two breakfasts were sitting getting cold, while it turns out they were struggling to make scrambled eggs and bacon (note that the single slice of white toast came a couple minutes after those finally arrived). Very disappointing, not sure how this place can survive with so many great options for breakfast. read more

After a bit of a rocky start, I think Eggy's has achieved their vision of being an urban family diner, where you can drop in for any meal of the day and see a friendly group of staff who always make you feel welcome. My husband and I stopped in for dinner and found the whole experience, from the food to the interior to the service, really relaxing and restorative and even a little whimsical. I ordered the pork with bourbon apple sauce and roasted Brussel sprouts, which was very good, and my husband had the grilled cheese sandwich with ham and tomato, which was terrific, and we shared the chicken tortilla soup. For dessert, we had a generous slice of their amazing ginger spice cake with cream cheese frosting. The desserts there are always delicious. I hope more people realize that Eggy's is open for dinner, and offers a great value considering the quality of the food. Perhaps part of the problem is that the dinner specials aren't on the website. In addition to dinner, we've had breakfast there many times. We usually get Two Eggs Your Way with potatoes and ham, but friends have also been happy with the French Toast and the Pastrami Hash. The staff has been very consistent for months, and are unfailingly super nice and personable, as well as prompt. Since the owners closed Custom House Tavern in the South Loop, they can really focus on Eggy's and the upstairs Maison Brasserie, which is also definitely worth trying. My only criticisms are that the price of coffee is a little too steep, and that they may want to consider offering fresh jam instead of the packaged stuff. All said, a great place I hope stays in business for a long time. read more

Not my favorite stop in Chicago. Went here after the line at our first choice was a little longer than we had time for. Tried to be adventurous and get the plate of fries covered in sausage gravy, topped with eggs your way. Everything was pretty bland to the point that salt and pepper couldn't fix it, my eggs were over cooked and all my cheese curds had melted out and stuck to my fries. My partner got a chocolate chip waffle that he enjoyed, but was letdown by the biscuits. Overall it has a great atmosphere, okay service and decent food. They were definitely busy when we stopped in which could explain some issues, but still not my top breakfast stop. read more

I used the yelp wait in line app for brunch today When I arrived, I was told they don't have my name in their system. I showed them the confirming text and info on my phone. I was told they could not do anything about it except put me at the bottom of line which would have been another hour. The line was out the door. And I had already waited an hour per the queue on the app - with my elderly mother. After talking to two people, I had to leave. This place is a hidden gem! We got in with no wait, our server Jason was very helpful and attentive! We are visiting but will for sure be back. We got the Mexican Skillet and Green eggs and Ham. Both were amazing, but I have never had a skillet more delicious than here! It was was so good with so much flavor! When in Chicago this will be our go to Breakfast/brunch place. Oh, and right outside is beautiful Lakeshore East Park. Both items also came with a really yummy pancake on the side. Great food for a great price. Would highly recommend. I really hate to give this place a bad review b/c the food was delicious. However, the service was horrible! For my personal preference, when I order my eggs, I like to have cheese melted on top. When ordering a skillet today for lunch, I made this known, but the waitress says oh it already comes with cheese. I'm like okay, I know skillets normally come with cheese but I want what I want. She also was rude to the girls I went with when asking about substituting something on the menu. When my food finally came, it still wasn't to my liking. I told her again I wanted cheese on top, so she hands my plate back to the kitchen, for it to come back the same way with more cheese on the potatoes and not the eggs like I asked. By the time we are paying for our bill, she hands one my friends her bill but then places the rest of them on the table for us to figure it out! read more
