It's kind of hard to find quality food, drink and a cool, down to earth atmosphere in the Baldwin/Oceanside area and everything in RVC is old news for me- this was so refreshing to find! Food- we got the chips and dip and it was super flavorful! Favorite was the green feta mixture- tangy and savory. Would definitely recommend. I had the watermelon salad- and although not the biggest fan of watermelon, it sounded great and it was! The balsamic and watermelon plus mixed greens and relished onion all went together for the perfect ratio of sweet and salty. The burgers are phenomenal. --The EAT burger in particular is one of the most flavorful meatwiches I've ever encountered. Craveable.-- The brunch menu boasts your choice of one food item + your choice of one libation + soda, coffee, breakfast pastries, hash browns, & fruit salad = $23. Steal city. We tried the "Garbage Plate" and the EGP Egg Sandwich. Both very good. --Small complaint: the "Easy Like Sunday Morning" in my bartending opinion should be a vodka drink, not a rum drink. Rum doesn't coexist with grapefruit quite like vodka does. I wasn't digging it.-- Service is great, especially the brunette female bartender with the nose ring. Beer list is extensive and awesome. The poutine is quacktastic. On a busy road filled with fast food chains and franchise restaurants, EAT is a breath of fresh air. read more

Ok,I just finished vomiting. Did I get sick from EAT? I'll never know. But an hour after my food came out,I needed to rush home in an "uh oh" moment. I feel awful,it is flu season who knows. I really don't consider myself a picky eater. I enjoy almost everything. I had a really difficult time deciding. I chose the chicken and potato waffle. She had watermelon salad. Now here's the thing,most men are happy eating cold pizza with peanut butter on a playing card for dessert(don't take me literally). We end up at one of these places because of our girlfriends or wives. We just want to see them happy. So can I bad mouth a place for being too creative/over ambitious with a menu? I feel like they need to focus on a few fundamental pub style foods such as a simple cheeseburger;you need to make everyone happy. Not everyone is in the mood to try something bold like a ground beef/bacon burger. A restaurant should be known for at least one thing. What do you go to Peter lugers for? Steak duh! A Greek place? A gyro or souvalki...etc. What is this place? A trendy pub? Threw me off. So here's a place that puts an enormous amount of effort on the appearance of the entree but,maybe less on the recipe. Not to say my food was bad. The quality of my chicken was second to none,I could taste difference. There are some really cool things going on here like an indoor herb garden hanging on the wall in the main dining room and an outdoor beer garden "Garden of Eatin" which is scheduled to open on Friday, 01 May 15. This is going to be THE place to hang out in the summer with plenty of seats and a mature greenhouse. I have found myself in Oceanside 3 Sundays in the past 6 weeks and usually drop my anchor here. It's centrally located on Long Beach Road with free parking in the back. Sometimes I sit at the bar and enjoy one of their 24 craft beers on tap and sometimes I move to the dining room for brunch. The deep fried french toast is delicious in all its artery clogging glory but I usually have "The Nest" which is two poached eggs, crispy onion, pickled vegetables, asparagus, roasted beets, lettuce, tomato and bacon. Note to all Bloody Mary lovers - Skip it - EAT's Mary is not good. (I'm being kind here). I disected mine last week and found 4 ounces of red chunky salsa-ish fluid in a very skinny glass with about 14 big icecubes. It wasn't pretty. It wasn't spicy. There wasn't any garnish in it at all- one would expect a celery stick at the very least- but in a gastropub? Come On! And it wasn't something you could drink, I had to chew my way thru it. Or not. I'll start by saying there is a dearth of good restaurants in Oceanside; EAT is one of a couple of quality places! I've been for happy hour and football games... $5 craft beer flights and discounted apps. TOUCHDOWN! I'VE been for lunch, $10 burger and beer. GRANDSLAM! I've been for dinner. The chicken pot pie is a HAT TRICK! Delicious! And the kids meals are a decent size. Why the use of sports terminology? I have no clue. Go in the spring, summer, early fall, and sit outside... cute outdoor bar and seating area complete with nice little greenhouse for "farm to table ingredients" Why only 4 stars? A few times I've sat in this added side room an it's either blazing hot or freezing cold. I guess they will eventually figure it out. Also, they have a loyalty program i have tried using but can never figure out and never remember to ask when i am there. If you live in the area and haven't gone, shame on you. The best part of this place is the philly cheese steak egg roll. It sets the bar high but the rest of the food just doesn't rate as high. We had the meatloaf TV dinner which was ice cold and just meh. The pot roast dinner was okay with the meat being warm but everything else was cold. If you order the egp chicken it's no longer prepared like it states on the menu it's served over mashed potatoes with brown gravy. The food was just cold and because of that I just couldn't enjoy the meal. The server Bella was very nice and although she ordered us the wrong desert she quickly rectified it. We wanted to try the bananas foster but we received the churros which we did not like at all. They are made of banana bread and deep fried. the concept behind them is cool they just are not our style I guess. The beer menu is good with both local and out of state micro brews. I had the pipe works lizard king which was great. I would try EGP again for a burger if I am in the area. The owner was standing in front of our table and it was a little disappointing that he didn't check in on how things were going. I was on the boarder with giving EAT 2 or 3 stars, but had to round down. Went for a late dinner with a friend on a Saturday, and the dining room wasn't too busy. However, the bar was extremely busy and seemed very cramped. We were seated and it took awhile for anyone to come over to greet us, even though there were tons of employees. Someone finally comes over, and we ask for water to start. The water never came, and we had to ask a different server to bring it to us. A different server comes to take our order for cocktails and entrees. The food was ok, but they brought over a giant bucket with a lot of condiments. It is nice that they do this, but when you are seated at a 2 top table, it does not leave much room. The biggest disappointment was the cocktails, and their mixologist should be embarrassed. I have no problem spending $12 on a cocktail, but it needs to be done right. Most of their cocktails have added sugar, or demerara which is just a different type of sugar. They used a store bought ginger beer, which should be made in house when you are spending $12. Also, they used regular ice for the cocktails which is a big no no. Lastly, the citrus of choice is lemon here, even when some drinks should be made with lime, such as the pisco sour. Overall, with spotty service (4 different servers), mediocre food, and horrible cocktails, I would not be likely to return. read more

I can't bring myself to write a bad review about this place, because the food was fantastic. The good- Food was absolutely fantastic. The house made bacon on the clothespins was awesome. Our meal was great 50/50 burger with fried mac and cheese on top, and the chicken sandwich. The sauces made the meal combine the maple aoili and bacon ranch together on the chicken....delicious!! The bad- Service was alittle ehh. Came here for the beers also and the ones we chose were of course out, maybe just bad timing. We went out to smoke and let our waitress know, they cleared our table with beer still in our pint glasses. Fix the service and you guys will be perfect. We will definitely be back! It's like walking into Narnia only better. The décor is awesome. They have seating for all moods: indoor, outdoor and an open "sun room" with plenty of shade. We sat in the latter and admired the beautifully landscaped patio. The drink list is awesome and the bartenders know what they are doing. I ordered the Southside which consists of gin, lemon juice, sugar cane and mint. I also got the chips and assorted dips.. or diyps as I like to call them. The entire spread was fantastic, the guac was my favorite and the chip strips they use were crunchy and fresh. I was eyeing my friends bunless burger with envy though... next time. My friends & I came here on ASH WEDNESDAY. OPPS. I'm sure they have some great vegetarian and healthy options, but If are you a carnivore this is the place to beeeee. My friends I split the philly cheesesteak eggrolls for an app - it was pretty damn good. We also got the 4 dip sampler - I was NOT a fan. I dunno....they just all seemed way too blended & salty for me. I wouldn't order this one again. We got 2 burgers and the chicken sandwich and split them. You feel like a fatass leaving this place but I think it is worth it. I love the dipping sauce options and maaaan that burger on the pretzel roll was out of this world. In the summer they have a green house and a beer garden outside so I will definitely be coming back once it gets warmer out. The first time we came here it was great, good food. Second time came in 3.5 hours before closing on a Sunday. We were told we could only sit at the bar, which was full. We finally sat down no one acknowledged us with menus or anything and had to walk out. Service was so poor a waitress watched us walk out and never even said anything to us. Update: the waitress did NOT advise us the dining area closed at 9pm and did not saying anything else besides. "You can sit at the bar, is that ok". I looked at my husband and said ok walked to a table and sat myself down across from the bar. I even had to even ask the bartender myself if was ok for me to sit. I've been here several times. My first experience of visiting the establishment I witnessed one of the servers yelling at an elder customer for being so demanding. She came over to apologize to our table but not him cause he's a regular and makes demands for coffee every time!!! First strike!! However, the food I had that day was brunch. I ordered the turkey burger which was tasteful and not dry. When I ordered a cocktail the glass was FULL of these huge ice cubes and barely any liquid. Epic fail!! The other times I've ordered was the shaved fennel salad with tuna. The first time there was an abundance of salad but the last few times I ordered it there was practically no greens and 2 slices of seared tuna. Im all for paying for good food but don't chinch out on the servings!! I've tried the lobster mack and cheese which is yummy with lobster chunks. Ordered the Philly cheese stake appetizer which is pretty good. The desserts are DELISH but when you order the bourbon root beer float with bacon make sure it's not for a child. The server stated there wasn't any bourbon in it but when we received it, another server grabbed from us insisting the bacon is fried in bourbon. Not appropriate for a child. The issue was rectified but was slightly frustrating of the back and forth of the yes and no's. The food and desert is good but it's over priced for the serving portions. Keep that in mind when placing an order. Oh and I hope you don't get the screaming nasty server who yells at elderly "demanding" customers!! She needs a to be fired!! read more

My experience here was not the best. At first they gave our table away, because the hostess knew the couple who arrived 15mins after us. And everything just spiraled downwards from there. We had the dip appetizer. It was nothing special. I don't even remember what I had, the food is THAT forgettable. I didn't forget the Mac and cheese burger that my bf ate which had him throwing up all weekend. It was greasy, tasteless, and gross. We had to flag people down to take our orders and then flag people down every time we needed something. The waitress never checked on us, without us having to flag her down. When asked how the food was, we didn't give them the desired answer, so we were given dirty looks from the muscular man who kept coming in and out of the kitchen. Every time we come here we love it! I try to have something new every time I come but it's so hard since I loved my last meal so much! My boyfriend is a picky eater and this place is a go to for him. For appetizers I've had the pretzel, AMAZING, the mac and cheese bits, didn't love but my boyfriend did, and the chips and dip sampler, which was unique and if you love chips and dip definitely worth it! For dinner I've tried the french onion sandwich the t-bird and the egp chicken and the steak sandwich. All of them had my mouth watering and wanting more after each bite! My favorite so far was the t-bird, so many different flavors were properly represented in each bite! My boyfriend almost always gets some type of mac and cheese or the pot roast and loves it. We're always full by dessert we've never even tried it but always talk about it what to try, so hopefully one day. We had two burgers, two cokes and the bill came to $40.00 My wife was charged additionally for a side dish that had been offered by our server as a substitute for the fries, with no mention of an up charge for the change in sides. My burger which was ordered med rare came out well done. My fat ass barely fit in the cold metal chair..all in all not a pleasant experience, although I can only blame myself for my posterior! I am highly impressed with EAT Gastropub and will definitely be back soon. The place is really awesome and has a feel good vibe immediately upon walking in. The hostesses greeted me immediately & very warmly & pointed me in the direction of the bar where I wanted to sit. I sat in the section of the bar where Jimmy was tending to & he gave me phenomenal service & payed attention to all of my needs & exceeded all expectations because he knew what I needed before I even did. My water was never half empty & the drink he made, the Spring Mule I believe it was called was a play on the Moscow Mule but with cucumber & it was phenomenal!! Jimmy knew all everything about the menu & guided me through it offering many recommendations & I settled on the Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls that were outstanding!! I had read about them in other reviews on Yelp & knew I needed to try them for myself. There was two sauces drizzled on top: a BBQ & what seemed like a béchamel. I would definitely go back to order them again & try some of their other amazing concoctions. Everything we tried here was excellent. We started with the poutine and thought it was delicious. I loved the 50/50 burger (made with half ground beef and half ground bacon). I chose the onion rings to accompany it, and these were probably the best item I tried here - great ratio of crisp fried exterior to onion. My dish came with a side of a peanut based sauce which tasted very good on the burger. Our server brought out a rack filled with a bunch of different aiolis - bacon ranch ailois, garlic aiolis, maple aiolis, and at least one more which I'm not remembering. I am no mayonnaise fan (and so not much of an aioli fan) but I thought the bacon ranch aioli was great on both the burger and the onion rings. For dessert, we shared a bacon bourbon root beer float with chocolate covered bacon. It was salty, sweet, chocolatey deliciousness. Couldn't eat much of it, but I loved the bites I tried. Presentation was artful. One of the people I was dining with ordered a side of bacon which came on a plate set up with a miniature 'clothesline' that the bacon hung from. So bonus points for clever, '3D' presentation. We got great service. read more

Pleasant! Eat is a great little 'cheap eats' spot in Oceanside, on Long Beach Road. I came here with a friend for dinner on a Saturday night; we arrived around ten past eight, and were seated right away. Eat was hoppin'! My friend and I ordered apps right way; the dipping app to share (there were four dips - cauliflower, spinach, guacamole, and hummus) and tuna tartare for my friend. The dips were delicious, but I wasn't a fan of the chips they came with; they were thin and tasted a little off. I usually like tuna tartare, but this particular version was heavy on the pineapple, and I passed when I was offered some by my friend. We hadn't finished our apps yet when dinner showed up. That irked me a bit - why are you rushing me, Eat?! I had ordered the Caesar salad, my friend got a burger, and we shared a side of poutine - french fries in duck fat (?!) and cheese curds. That poutine was delicious, although likely ninth-circle-sinful. My salad seemed endless; it was good, and it was definitely dinner-sized. My friend and I each had a Manhattan, a featured cocktail; we both commented on the strength of the cocktails. For dessert I had the apple crumb pie, which was ok; my friend had the bacon ice cream float, which she said she was glad she tried. Overall, I liked Eat, and I would come back, but it does seem a little try-hard and trendy, and service was just ok. The rushing was one thing, and the inattentiveness overall was another. I had heard nothing but rave reviews from friends who had been to EAT, so I was really looking forward to eating there. Went on a Thursday night and waited about 20 minutes for a table. The Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls seem to be the most talked about dish here, but I can't for the life of me figure out why. They had a gritty texture that was more reminiscent of meatloaf than any Philly Cheesesteak I've ever had. They also had a strange 4-cheese sauce on top of them and some sort of bbq/ketchup monstrosity at the bottom. The cheese sauce was over the top for "Philly" (provolone or Wiz); and the tomato stuff at the bottom took over most of the taste. A salad topped with duck confit was passable, but not really special in any way, except for an excellent dressing. The EAT Burger was, for its price, undersized (5 oz. burger), underseasoned, overcooked and topped with a bacon jam that was way too sweet. It was paired with the world's smallest serving of french fries. A soda arrived that had no flavor (syrup issue at the fountain) -- but went unreplaced despite mentioning it twice to two different servers. A milkshake, served in a small milk jug, had a consistency that made it seem as if no ice cream was actually used in its creation. Craft Beer selection was ample and they do carry a few over the counter brands for those that do not care for craft beer. Appetizers were rather small for the price however quite tasty. I would recommend the Philly cheesesteak egg roll which was delicious. For dinner, had the Mac and cheese burger. Burger was cooked right and was excellent. As a matter of fact condiments are not needed so you can savor the taste. Fries were good but a small portion. A friend suggested that we join him and his wife at the gastropub. We were pleasantly surprised. We were seated in a bright room that was inside, but had an outdoor feel. I ordered a Twist, which is a huge imported Bavarian soft pretzel. It was served warm with mustard and cheese fondu. Delicious, and sufficient for the 4 of us. Our friends ordered a chicken dish, and a roast beef sandwich with a just. I ordered the Butcher's Choice, a huge plate consisting of a large marinated skirt steak, 4 grilled shrimp on a skewer, 4 barbecued ribs, yummy mashed potatoes and string beans.
