One friend is preggos, the other doesn't drink and I added vodka to mine. I got the Mystery Machine and it was AMAZING. Like a spicy Paloma with vodka. Theirs were also super yummy and it was nice for non-alcoholic options. Only drink issue was getting our waters refilled on a Houston summer day. Food: Our plans were just to nosh. We shared the queso. It was wanting for something, a bit bland. We added hot sauce to it and it was good. For a restaurant with primarily Tex-Mex they seemed to have a buffalo themed hot sauce, could have been better. The watermelon salad is super refreshing (as would be expected). I felt it was lacking toppings vs. the watermelon ration but it was a SUPER big portion. My friend got the chicken tamales and the flavor was great! A bit too much masa for me and it was heavy, almost like the Houston moisture expanded it, lol. Still yum. The winner=ELOTES!!! OMG, I said I would only have one bite...I lied. She looked to be working diligently, so might have been understaffed for the day or because of covid job hiring issues. There's dozens of specialty cocktails to choose from if you're not a straight whiskey kind of guy. Notable cocktails I tried at our table were the Ranch Water and frozen Gin & Tonic, both trouble. If you're hungry, they have a food truck full time attached to their establishment that you can order through your server. We shared a few tacos, a tostada and a quesadilla and everything came out quickly and tasty. Only con I could think of from our first visit would be the Houston summer heat and their layout. There's a handful of tables inside and under AC but most of the table options on a busy night will be outside, especially if you're in a large group. There are fans, bottomless waters and other attempts to make it work, but definitely worth giving a heads up about. Dress for the heat, pray for a cool breeze and the sun to hurry up and go down. Omg the manager, Savannah, here is very rude (if not racist), whether she means to be or not. She was rude about me requesting to have the shade next to me with the umbrella (bc I was right over the sun, the hostess asked if that spot was okay bc of the sun at my arrival) without my mask even though it says when you are seated it can be removed. I love this place so much and this review is far overdue... I guess I was afraid to share it with others and wanted to keep it my special place forever, but I think it's way too late for that now! When I found out there was a place opening in the Heights, specializing in craft whiskeys, craft beers and tacos, I was immediately all in! I feel in love on my first visit and fall deeper in love upon each return. There is a pretty good mix of people in terms of style and age. Every now and then, there will be a few more preppy frat boy/ sorority girl types than I prefer to engage with, but usually there is a higher ratio of down-to-earth folks and hipsters. There are a few TVs around, typically showing local sports teams, and the music regularly features Cake, Led Zeppelin, White Stripes and Beck (some of my top 10 all-time faves). The patio is dog-friendly so Kermit the Dog enjoys accompanying me here too. As for the food and drinks, it's hard to go wrong with any of the cocktails, but I always seem to go back to the Eight Row Mule (whiskey mule). The craft beer selection is awesome, as is the whiskey selection of that's more your speed. Keep in mind that this is the (currently) dry area of the Heights, so you'll need to provide your driver's license as well as a credit card when opening your tab and ordering so you can be a "member". The tacos are SOOO delicious too! My personal picks are the beef cheek taco and the roasted brussel sprouts taco, but they are all tasty (I've tried them all). The corn tortillas are always fresh, and the ingredients are locally focused. I'm also a big fan of the chips and queso. The chips are house made, served warm. The queso blanco is a little sharp, with fresh jalapeños and grilled onions on top to zest it up. The bean dip and guacamole are also great choices as you select your tortilla chips' accoutrements. Parking can be easy or scarce, depending what time and day you arrive. If you live in the Heights, you might as well save the effort and just bike or walk. There is an entire lot across the street on Yale that belongs to Eight Row though, so sometimes it's easier to park there instead of the spots around the building. The patio and interior are open seating with table service. Part of the patio is covered and part of it uncovered, so if rain is in the forecast, you'll also want to consider that. The service is relaxed, so don't get offended if you have to flag your server down at times -- this is a place to chill for a minute. read more

All day Happy Hour on Wednesday! get here early or don't roll with a big squad or seating might be difficult. The specials only apply to drinks and NOT food but the margaritas on the rocks with egg white are excellent and well worth the trek even if you aren't munching. I also ordered the brussel sprout nachos and holy wow was it incredible! My friends ordered the tacos and while I think they are pricey for what they are, they are still super tasty. The menu isn't extensive by any means, but it gets the job done! And vegetarian friendly! We are regulars at this location and I am surprised that I haven't done a review. Food- great! Love the tacos and chips/salsa! The entire whisky house with added food truck takes this location really far. Service- probably one of the best in town. Like I said I go here regularly for weekend cocktail and tacos, the staff always greets guest as they walk in, they problem solve if a situation arises, and work hard to make the guest feel at home. The manager Christina is especially outstanding. COVID-19 (Important to let people know how businesses are managing this health crisis): Quarantine Service- again probably one of the best in town! Seriously!!! They are wiping tables between guest. Keeping guest 6-feet apart with tape. They even had their tables moved to maximize the space while maintaining social distancing guidelines. Have a host/hostess to make sure tables are cleaned and ready for the next guest. All staff are wearing mask. Napkins and utensils are one time use, throw away.
