EightyTwo has a great space downtown that is HUGE and right by Wurstkuche, Pie Hole, and Zip Fusion Sushi, so you can eat then play some arcade games. Probably a good idea since they don't really have food here. Cool concept - an arcade for growns ups.. but old school arcade games (the ones we grew up with, like Ms Pac Man and Mario Brothers) that they bought and restored (and did a very impressive job with) and brings back the nostalgia of our youth. This is no Dave and Buster's, folks. It is much much cooler. Nice big space! This is really 3 sections - the pinball section, the patio and the rest of the arcade with the bar in it. Even on a saturday night, this place was never uncomfortably full. The bar was a MESS, but it came and went in waves. Expect to do some waiting. There is a food truck that pulls up behind the place in a special... 4th part of the establishment, and a handy area there where you can eat. They will NOT let you bring food back into the arcade or the patio area, tho, just fyi. Everyone seemed to like the drinks, there were plenty of games and lots of great people! read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. On one hand it allows me to reminisce my childhood and teenage years and on the other I just felt like something was missing. I like the open space, outdoor seating, but smoking area smack dab in the center is not a great idea for those that don't like the smoke or are not smokers. Drinks are a bit pricey $12 for an old fashion, kind of a lot for an arcade, just my opinion. No food is sold, but there is that one hot dog vendor out side. They have a nice variety of games and pinball machines which I enjoyed. Each game has cup holders on each side, brilliant. The DJ was playing some good jams, but it was hard to hear the music in the room with the pinballs. Not thrilled about this place but it wasn't horrible either. It has potential. Bring cash, no ATM. My boyfriend and I came in at 2 when it first opened and actually had the whole place to ourselves for the first 15 minutes which was nice. We had our pick of any arcade game in the bar. My only suggestion for this spot is to work on their beer selection, but that's just a personal preference. There weren't very many to choose from, more variety would be nice. My friends and I were looking for a bar to hit up after our dinner and we stumbled across EightyTwo so we decided to check it out. Its a really great spot. I'm not used to the bar scene in LA (as I turned 21 in SD) but this place was pretty poppin'. They had a live DJ and the music was really good. The drinks were all expertly made and decently priced. Having the arcade games made everything even more fun. The customer base looked, for the most part, like millennials. There wasn't anyone who was extremely creepy or absurdly drunk. This is a great place to grab a few beers and play some sweet sweet vintage arcade games. Upside- most of the games are only 25 cents! I've been to some places that expect you to pay 75 cents. FOR AN OLD ARCADE GAME. Ridiculous. So, its awesome that they games are sticking to their original prices. I think the pinball machines may be a little pricier- the ones I passed by were 50 cents. Good variety of games- Street Fighter/Mortal Kombat, Terminator, X-men, TMNT, I was basically reliving my childhood. Decent selection of beers and cocktails as well (reliving that part of my childhood as well! jk). Bartenders aren't hard to get to as well, which is nice. Downside- its a little small. One side is primarily pinball, other side is arcade style like street fighter or mario bros. Depending on when you get there, you may have to wait on games as well. You also need to keep a lookout on your beer. I'm pretty certain the staff that "cleans up" the empty glasses they find also swipes beers that aren't quite done as well (like mine that had a quarter beer left). I guess that helps them sell more beer...Tactics like that will get you shot in TX, but since I'm a tourist in CA, I'll chalk it up as an out of state tax and try not to let it ruin my vacation. Suggestions- I don't know how you have all this, but no skeeball machines? Or how about basketball? Make it happen. read more

First time going and my friends told me that it was perfect since there was no line. They said last time they came on a weekend and the line wrapped around the block! Went on a Wednesday so I'd recommend going here on a weekday. No lines at all and the crowd was small, which was awesome. The selection of classic arcade games and pinball machines were great. I suck at arcade games but it was so much fun playing Ice Cold Beer. Frustrating when your sober and not but hey, that's why arcade games are so fun. Games cost 25cents and 50cents for the pinball machines. The drink selection is good. I got wizard mode but wasn't too big of a fan. I did like my friend's drink more but I don't recall the name. Love this spot when there isnt the longest line in the world to get into. Super awesome atmosphere with Street Fighter 2 playing on the projectors behind the bar. A nerd / gamers wonderland when it comes to bars with video game themed drinks like the Zhangief which is a type of mule they put their own twist on. Most of the people I know call this place the "Arcade Bar" A good place to get a drink and experience some real nostalgia. This place gets crowded very quickly at night because of its popularity but is a great day drinking place on a lazy saturday/sunday afternoon with a bunch of friends. In fact, it gets so crowded at night, you really can't get your game on so I suggest really only coming here during the day to truly get the full experience. Drinks were not cheap here but the machines were all pretty reasonable. The bar is divided by a middle outdoors area and two covered/indoor areas. The place is popping once you walk in pinball games to the right and the video games and bar to the left. Crowd noise plus the games good vibe everyone having a good time. Place can use another location for a bar crowded to get a drink. Maybe bring some change on hand the two change machines were down the wait was a while. Great selection of games at affordable prices. Doesn't have a kitchen, but a food vendor is always available. Security does a great job diffusing any nonsense whenever it does arise. No offense, but you wouldn't have to worry about the little kids running around, although you have the 21+ acting like they went back in time to play their old-schooled favorite video games. There's a food truck outside, outdoor patio, a room for pinball machines and another room for 70s-90s arcade games and a bar. Above the bar, they're streaming live Street Fighter II game. Next to the bar is their nightly DJ. We went on a Wednesday and for a Wednesday there was a good amount of people. Games ranged from $0.25-$0.50 each. It was cool to see Joust, Duck Hunt, The Simpsons and a bunch of other games. I like the idea this is 21+ only. The front of the place is a huge mural painted all over. They're really adamant about closing on TIME. For once, they close 2:00AM and they shut off all the games at once. So if you're on a roll, I suggest dying at 1:59am to try and save your score. No dress code or cover charge, that's the good part, but I don't suggest trying to show up with no shirt or no shoes. Definitely coming back soon! read more

This is one of the bars I frequent when I'm out and about in Little Tokyo/DTLA. The moment you step in, you feel like you just stepped into a time machine! You have vintage pinball machines to your right and tons of old school arcade games on your left. If gaming isn't your thing, there's a small dance floor area and an outside patio/backyard area to hang out Quarters will fly outta your pocket quick here, so be prepared. I guess our parents felt like this too when we kept bothering them for more money... All in all, cool place to hang out and kick it with your friends. Normally I enjoy playing pinball at this place but this time, I didn't even get past the door thanks to an overzealous, misery-guts bouncer. I visit LA about once a year and when I do, I stop by here. I've used my British driver's license many times at EightyTwo with no problems. I don't even drink here - just play pinball. Here's how the conversation went after handing the bouncer my British ID: "You can't use that, you have to have Californian ID" (Hey everybody, EightyTwo is a Californians-only establishment!) "But I've used it many times before with no issues" "Nope" "Are you saying the people who let me in last time are negligent?" "Yes. You have to bring your passport" (Who the hell in their right mind risks walking around with their passport?!) "How about this?" (hands him my Californian driver's license) "From when I used to live here" "It's expired" He was right - it did expire... two weeks ago! And it shows the same details as my British one that I'm thirty bloody eight. To be clear - I look 38, I have grey hair, I don't look anywhere near 21 - I could have kids near the legal age, for heaven's sake. I'll go along with this goose-stepper's militancy (he was a real charmer by the way - a King-of-my-little-Hill type) if he only ever drives at the speed limit or below. 65 miles per hour, douche-bag - it's the law! Guess I'll just go to ones in Hollywood and Pasadena from now on, and recommend any non-American to do the same. P.S. I went out drinking on Ventura Blvd in Studio City later that night and used my British ID. Celebrated a friends birthday this past Saturday. Place is easy to find and lot of pay parking raging from $10 and up. We got there pretty early and was able to get drinks quickly. Bar was petty well stocked draft beers, bottle beer and mixed drinks. Prices are what you expect for a place in DTLA. We were able to play all the machines we wanted with minimal wait.. Best part all machines have cup holders or tables to place your drinks while you play. They do have an outdoor patio split in two by partition on one side you can sit drink and smoke and other have a tako man cooking up some pretty good stuff. The bad part... Lot and lots of smokers in the out door patio... Since there is huge open doors between the arcade and pinball room while I was kicking ass at pinball all I could do is smell smoke... Over all a good experience and a pretty fun place would be here again. read more

Oh what fun, what fun! How I miss these arcades at the supermarkets and/or local liquor store. I am a 1980s child and this place just took me back to memory lane. I played some pinball machines and other arcades. It was fun to watch the unbeatable player that everyone was in line to "beat" no one was able to beat him and his time during the time I was there. Can we talk about the drinks though? My goodness, such a busy place, they have some amazing craft bartenders. One of their popular games is Mortal Kombat, which has your game displayed on a big screen tv right about the full bar; pretty cool right!! Overall, they are fully equip to make any drink you request. Where is the food? They have a food truck located between the pinball machines and arcade machines, they change depending on the day. But, there is also a Umami burgers which is not to far either; walking distance. Make sure you bring lots of money because you'll be needing them, most games cost 25 to 50 cents a game. If I could give a -5 star review it would be here: rudest bartender I've ever encountered, working a shift at 10:11 pm Saturday night April 20th, 2019. He either was too high to know how to act or he was just a bad representation of the bar. I really liked this place until tonight. He had a tone, I called him out on it and he tried to justify it by saying its in his right not to serve me. THEN he proceeded to tell his coworker bartender not to serve me. So.. you can serve the way you want and then cry wolf about how shitty your performance is at work. I've worked in hospitality, and I would be fired for the way he acted tonight. Do yourself a favor if you just want a drink don't go to the bar with the most sensitive bar tenders serving you. read more

Games + booze, yes please! I've come here a bunch of times, weekends and weeknights. Early weeknights tend to be way less busy than a Friday or Sat. They have a pretty good selection of arcade games including a whole room of pinball machines. Those as well as the popular games get taken up quickly so you hand to keep an eye out if you want to really play something. My favorites are pac man and the game of thrones pinball machine. So addictive! Gotta bring tons of bills to keep playing. There are a couple of change machines. There's also a well stocked bar and they're drinks are good. I've gotten wine a couple times bc I'm that type of girl. The last time I went I got a peach drink which was simply divine. There's also a patio area to sit and talk when you get worn out from gaming or need a break. Parking can suck in this area, I usually uber. I have been here three times as I live two hours away and first heard of this place through friends that it was truly a vintage arcade haven and a refuge for all those geeks and nerds! The first two times I came here it was awesome and I absolutely loved the decor here and that famous mural on the building facade. This place is a bar, so it's only for the 21+ crowd, which is a good thing so it doesn't ruin the experience for others. I love the assortment of vintage arcades that they have here which include Street Fighter 2, Mortal Kombat 2, TMNT, the Simpsons, and tons of pinball machines! In particular, those who are playing the Street Fighter arcade machine, the matches are put on the big screen and you can see who is fighting: pretty cool! The drinks here a little pricey, but they are good as I had an old-fashioned on my last visit. The bathrooms are clean and well-attended. So, you're probably wondering why all this praise and only 3 stars? So, on my 3rd and maybe last visit for a while, I came in on Friday night and it was PACKED and I mean PACKED to the brim full of people. They have no cover charge, so people want to get in. The bouncers were letting people in as others were leaving. This is fine, but hardly anyone was leaving and I waited almost 30 minutes to get in-- HUGE mistake. I couldn't even walk inside the bar as there were so many people inside the arcade area and even the patio area. I "attempted" to play some of the arcades, but people kept hogging the arcades and refused to let others play. I get that you want to spend money here, but when you see it THIS packed you can be courteous and let other people take a turn in playing the games. The worst arcade for this was Street Fighter II as they hogged the machine like crazy and didn't let people play at all. It was like the same group for like 20 minutes or so. I really wanted to play, but they were just being selfish. Also, a note to the management, I get that it gets packed here, but I have a feeling several fire codes were broken here because it was so packed inside. They should just start charging a small cover charge ($5) and this would deter the insane amount of people trying to get in. Just a suggestion. While I still really enjoy this place, my last experience left a sour-taste in my mouth and deterred me from going back during peak hours. It was way too packed and you couldn't even play any of the popular arcades as people were hogging them. I will meet them half-way and give them three stars since the last two visits were pleasant. This bar is still recommended, but I don't recommend coming during peak hours like Friday or Saturday nights because it can get ridiculously and uncomfortably packed.
