Distasteful customer service. Went in and waited for 5 minutes in the order section and no one came to help. Just kept their backs to the line. Went to the part where to pay and the lady told me to go to the order part. But yet again, no one was there to take my order. Finally a man comes and is probably the only one on the staff that cares. Great food that arrived amazingly fast on a Saturday morning. It was quicker to get the food delivered than to drive there, order with everyone else, deal with the crazy parking lot, and drive back. I ordered the Brunch Box. It was more than enough food for 4 people. This is my second order from the place. The first order was in person on a Sunday morning and I had no issues with the order. The issue I had was with parking lot. Starbucks was packed and lots of cars coming/going out, so it was hard to get out of my parking spot. I am a regular customer to this place just today we had some friends over so we thought we will pack three bagels to go and three we will eat there , so we ordered half a dozen bagels and person on the counter refuse to toast 3 bagels for us . I usually really like Einstein Bagels. I think they are also pretty authentic NY style. I usually get the typical sesame, poppy seed, or plain variety. I also like to get the occcasional Spinach Florentine. I have usually bought at other DC locations. Service is usually okay, if slow. This is first time coming to the Gaithersburg location. I did see the low ratings, but I decided to risk it. This location was not only slow (they seemed under staffed , possibly due to the Pandemic, but frankly, as I said, I have never known EB to be fast). I noticed the crew seemed friendly, so that was a plus; however I was really kind of turned off by the fact that the crew had substantial hair, and were not wearing any kind of hair, nor, as in this case, a beard net (I am not sure, but I believe that's a health violation?). At least one of the servers had a full, viking style beard. Fine. Just not over my food please. Everybody seemed pretty young, so management was either non existent, or pretty lax. Free bagels and schmears... who can beat that? I just recently discovered this location. It is one of the nicer Einstein's, as it has more room to sit and enjoy your bagel and schmear, sandwich, darn good coffee or whatever you chose, especially when they open the back room usually reserved for groups. I wish Einstein's had booths or comfortable coffee shop chairs, but I guess that a lot of people probably take things to go. There can be lines, but there have been enough people working to make it move quickly and there are quite a few friendly people working to accommodate. The e-club (free to join on their website) can't be beat with frequent offers for everything from free bagels and schmears to 2 for 1 sandwiches and other concoctions. They send a new offer weekly. The coffee that used to be "Melvyn's" coffee and now is called 'darn good' is actually that - darn good - and I'm not sure why there always seems to be a Starbucks next door to an Einstein's. They offer the lattes, mochas, espresso's etc... but their regular and flavored coffees are actually very good and you can get a bottomless cup when dining in. Macadamia Chocolate is my favorite, although Vanilla Hazelnut and Winter Blend are close seconds. Their unsweetened iced teas are also very good - Serenitea - is a green tea blend with citrus and ginger and they also have a Tropical Berry selection. Stand-out sandwiches for me have been the Grilled Italian Chicken Panini and Tasty Turkey. I've also had their California Chicken wrap, which this location made very well. (the other Gaithersburg location left out the chicken - ooops - but then made up for it with a new one). Decent place for a quick bite and a nice bottomless cup of coffee or refreshing iced tea. read more

The team was very fast, very efficient, and I had my full order and had paid within about 5 minutes, despite a few people ahead of me. Everything was correct. It was a little confusing that one guy rang me up and then a second cashier down the row had my info and I paid there, but I went with it. Don't come here early in the morning and expect to have your Monday blues lifted. I live nearby this location so I come here for breakfast on my way to work when I want something healthier than McDonald's. I enjoy their food and their coffee but the customer service here is bad. Friendly staff goes a long way and makes customers more comfortable but you won't get a hi, good morning or any of the sort here. For cleanliness, I give them a 1! The service too is rated a 1! The people working here look like they can't handle a morning rush hour and are so slow in getting orders completed. There was a poor man who was trying to make it to a meeting who had been waiting for a box of bagels for 15+ minutes!!! It was not a very complicated order..just a box of assorted bagels...to make matters worse when the cashier walked away from his station to fill the bagel order he could not sign back on to his station. It took three employees to get back on their system and another 3 minutes for the system to boot up. Which leads me to believe that the employees work as slow as the wifi system at the store. The employees here look like they are not happy to be doing their jobs. They make you feel like you're bothering them when placing your order. With today's experience I believe this place needs a good manager guiding/teaching employees to have good customer service. They are the face of your company, be happy to have a job and do your job with respect! I would also rate their signature coffee a 1! It was watery & weak! The milk containers were almost empty & dirty so was the counter where they are placed. No covers for your coffee...again because they hand you a cup of coffee you can make your coffee immediately...however there was another 10+ minute wait to get your breakfast sandwich. There was only ONE cook making all the sandwiches...this place needs to be visited by a District Manager or Supervisor so they can see how much they lack service and how desperately a remodel is needed!!! My wife and I come here on weekends sometimes, and on a rare occasion early on a weekday before work. It has become our go-to for bagels. All we ever get is a bagel & coffee, so I can't comment on the other food. The bagels are excellent with a great variety, and the cream cheese/smear selection is also very nice. My usual order is poppy w/ low-fat blueberry smear & a coffee. The atmosphere is decent, w/ some outdoor seating and a decent amount of sunlight indoors to give it a nice warm feeling. The employees don't do a great job cleaning up after the people who are too lazy to do it themselves, so sometimes u need to get a wet napkin to wipe the table/seat to get rid of crumbs. Overall the service is pretty good, nothing outstanding w/ some workers friendlier than others. They can get very busy on the weekends, but the wait time isn't bad at all (although a seat may be difficult to find depending on how many ppl you are with). Finally, Einstein has some great offers if you sign up for their email list. I try to support local non-franchise businesses, however I have yet to find a comparable bagel spot in Gaithersburg. read more

I've been going to this restaurant for several years and have noticed a marked deterioration in quality over the past few months. I normally order a dozen everything bagels along with a shmear. The bagels have gotten consistently smaller over the past year, but the last time I went (5/24/'21), there was a substantial deterioration in quality as well. Half of the bagels were almost totally without the dressings (seeds, garlic, onion, etc.). The supply of these bagels has also become undependable in recent months even in the mornings. I am not a bagel person. I dislike cream cheese. Why still give 5 stars? They have so many different kinds of bagels and my favorite is the chocolate chip. On top of that, their specialty is the shmear- blueberry or strawberry are my top choices. Their service is quick and it's kind of cozy inside the store. Good for breakfast or "snack."
