This location is awful. Whole vibe in there is off. Seems like all the workers in there hate their job. I get it, you're busy, but no one greeted us, register person was dull and our bagels were just tossed onto the counter. Never had this at the Beaverton location. I placed a web order for 6 bagels and a smear, came in about 15 minutes later since that was the estimated time given, and they were just putting the order on the pickup rack. My wife and I thought the quality of the bagels was excellent - soft, chewy, the correct skin, and the honey walnut smear tastes great! I really wanted poppy seed but not available. The blueberry had lots of flavor and the ancient grains was very tasty. I couldn't find any fault. There were maybe a half dozen people waiting in the store so I'm glad I placed the web order. read more

Got a Green Chile Bagel. To begin with, it was more like a bread roll. None of the chewy that a bagel should have. No way these bagels are boiled before they are baked. I asked for it with butter - what a joke. There was a tiny bit of butter in the middle (the size of a quarter) and very thin. The topping was sparse and directly in the center of the bagel - so the perimeter was just bread. Does not resemble the photo you see on the website AT ALL!!!! The bagels here are bagels. Which isn't a bad thing. But they really are just bagels. They do some creative stuff with them, though, and that's pretty neat. Pizza Bagel is easy, but "Thintastic Chicken Pesto" is probably not something you'll find elsewhere. The earlier in the day you go, the fresher your bagel will be. My wife got the last hashbrown bagel at 2pm and was disappointed. My plain bagel was just fresh as the driven snow, though. But the real awesome thing here (buried the lede again, Brian) is that they serve Caribou Coffee! If you're an old Midwesterner from way back like me, it's a nice taste of home. Ya sure! For what was an incredible weekend visit for what was 25 years, Einstein Bagels lays the last board for their demise by changing their entire menu to what appears to mirror a disgusting Subway chain. Why change a menu that has literally worked for so long. Prior to it being called Einstein's, a national chain, it was Portland's beloved Noah's bagels. Sticking to traditional roots of the New York bagels, they offered delicious renditions of stackable breakfast treats. Now? The only vegetarian option WITHOUT pork? Avocado toast.... Don't waste your time with this dump. I can assure you, when you lay eyes on their sausage bagel burrito, you two will move on. Absolutely pitiful place now. read more

As an Italian Jew and vegetarian coming from the east coast I'm always looking for the best bagels and real Italian food. What this location lacks in the fact that they are doing mass produced bagels they make up for in amazing customer service. I grew up on the east coast where bagel shops are just local one off stores and every town has their one shop that's the best. Chain bagel shops are not exactly the norm. I'll admit, I had gotten off work, did a good deed for close friends by making my way to Hillsdale and was just plain hungry. Einstein was the closest breakfast place around. Not my first choice. I got my bagel and a hot chocolate. The folks were very friendly and brought out my bagel to where I was sitting and called out my name for the hot chocolate. There was hospitality going on here and that stood out to me and I noticed that they were making everyone that came in feel the same way. That's good service to me. The food was fine, nothing to brag about but I ate and was on my way. But if there's one thing that would make me come back here it was the employees. Enjoy. read more

This former Noah's Bagels has switched flags if not exactly flagships. It's an OK joint to grab a dozen bagels to go, and the standard varieties & shmears are up to brand standard. In a disappointing twist, the recently-acquired Kettleman Bagels that had expanded the available choices to include boiled bagels have since ceased to exist entirely. This particular shop has limited seating, a crowding problem compounded 9 months of the year by its easy proximity to Wilson High School. The customer service is --on the whole-- pretty blase, and while some employees do shine, the overall atmosphere is a little rudderless (for instance, I saw one employee take her lunch break by going next door to Pizzicato, which she brought back to the breakroom --certainly no crime, but not the kind of message you'd normally be witness to in a more tightly-managed emporium). As for the menu, stick to bagels & shmear; the sandwiches are lacking, and while the thought of a Chicken Cuban Panini or Turkey Sausage egg & cheese might sound really mouth-watering in your head, the actual results are a little on the bland side. read more

I got going this morning too early. I really didn't pay too much attention until I realized I would be to work a full 45 minutes early. Having nothing to prove to the boss (it's our slow time of the year), I decided to get off the bus at the next stop and grab a quick bagel and coffee and read the paper until a later bus came along. A coffee-and-bagel combo was advertised for $3.99, which seemed like a pretty good deal, and such was the emphasis on pumpkin added to so many things, I caved and got a pumpkin bagel with pumpkin schmear. While I waited for them to toast my bagel, I didn't pay attention much, checking to see how soon I could politely grab the newspaper, and didn't read the label on the hot pot and ended up with flavored coffee. I drank the coffee and was surprised by the metallic taste until I realized what I had done. I kept on with the coffee just because it had been paid for and didn't want to waste money. I picked up the bagel with schmear and felt that it was just OK and was more like a firmer-textured doughnut, although the pumpkin schmear had a nice tang to it once spread on the bagel. The customer service was acceptable and friendly enough, but there was one gentleman working the counter that was more personable than the rest. I suspect people probably keep coming in because of him because many seemed to know him and enjoy chatting with him. It seems overall like a nice place to sit and drink coffee and read the paper, and I appreciated the classical music playing in the background not too loud and not too low and this made for a pleasant atmosphere. The seating area was not crowded at all, so I enjoyed being able to spread the paper out and relax without worrying I was in somebody's way. Next time I will pay better attention, but even so it was a perfectly OK place to hang out whilst waiting for the next bus to not take me to work early. read more

First of all I walk in and the young gal taking my order and cashing me out was talking so fast I couldn't even understand what she was saying. At check out I asked if there was a way to contact someone to provide feedback on another location and she had no idea and didn't even bother to ask another co worker. I got my breakfast sandwiches to go and when I got to my destination and bit into my chicken and tater breakfast sandwich my chicken was bad! It tasted old and chewy. Needless to say I had to toss the chicken and ended up eating my burnt over paid bagel and smear. This is the second location I have tried in Oregon and continue to be disappointed. Ugh, this place annoys the crap out of me. So I place a catering order every Friday and have for several months. Some Fridays the order is done when I walk in, other Fridays they act like they have no idea there was even an order. Some Fridays they give me what I ordered, other Fridays they replace all 6 blueberry bagels with pumpernickel...not even close Einstein Bros, not even close. Also this morning I witnessed a worker drop a customer's bagel on the counter with no napkin or other germ protection on it, sigh, look around for the guy, and upon realizing he was not in the store (he had stepped out to get something in his car) put it into another bag and serve it to him. Gross. I'm so sick of the inconsistent and crappy service that I have to find another bagel place, even if it means I'm driving 30 minutes longer in Portland morning traffic and paying twice as much. read more

Full disclosure: I have been a big fan of "Noah's" bagels since 1996 when I first had a sun-dried tomato smear on an everything bagel, so when I walked into the Hilsdale Einsein Bros Bagels, I already had a favorable disposition. And I still call this place "Noah's," which makes my wife roll her eyes. Cutting to the chase: The staff at this location is awesome, friendly, and unfailingly consistant in their professionalism. The bagels are good, there's a wide variety, in fact this is a great place for the whole family. Yep, east coast bagel snobs will have a lot of criticism, but 95% of the rest of population will love these bagels. Smears: Variety? Yes! Taste? Einstein bagels bought out every other bagel company in Portland- and it's the most depressing thing to happen frankly. Their bagels are the same quality as grocery store bagels. The only thing that saves it is that they have some good sandwich options. First Time Coming here and won't be coming back! Ordered on the app for curbside and came to pick up my order. Clicked I'm here when I was parked right in front of store. The app said "Someone is on the way with your order" and 20 minutes went buy saw people come and go. So I go inside and see my order just sitting on the shelf. I have to get this guys attention in the kitchen with headphones on twice because he couldn't hear me. I told them this was a curbside order and he said "oh really" and just walked away. Another female employee coming to put something on the shelf said "oh we just got done with a big rush". As someone who's worked in customer service for 20 years if you have a rush that should make you even more motived to get customers there orders. Not be lazy and put there order where they don't know it is and have them waiting until it gets cold. Thanks for the shitty morning. Poor work ethic. Shitty food. Won't be coming back. read more

Early in the morning, you expect a little less. Well these guys far exceeded my expectations. Not only did we get delicious bagels, but we got a very pleasant customer service experience. My decaf was delicious and everything made to perfection. The guy cashier was extremely helpful, and even warmed my son's blanket before we left. I was very imoressed. The place was clean and ready for business, even at 6am. Top notch, so glad to be coming here again years later. Is there no social contract concerning wifi and reasonable bandwidth when pay for a meal in Portlandia? I asked before i ordered how the connection was here and was told it was fine. They got my money, and there was enough juice to get my email to log in, but thats it. Would not even load my email. Why do I keep trying this place? Every visit, usually to grab a bagel and coffee on the way to work, is disappointing. Disorganized staff, slow service. But my biggest complaint is how dirty the surfaces seem. I showed examples one morning to a manager, but i got the sense he had no idea what to do about it. I like the bagels and coffee at Einstein. I've never had their lox so I tried the Nova Lox. It was pretty good. My only gripe is that it always seem to take way too long to get your order, especially TO GO aka you're in a hurry etc, whenever I go to Einstein (ANY Einstein).
