She did so well, I especially love her bangs and the trim was nice and even!! Ej's Little People has been apart of Fair Oaks Village since 1974! Very sweet and patient staff with my 2 year old! They offer free arcade games, have an indoor play area and sell children's items as well! It's located a couple doors down from the Sunflower Cafe, so we picked up lunch after! 5/5 star experience! Disclaimer: I am fully aware a one yr old could be hard to work with but I am incredibly disappointed with our experience here for my son's very first haircut. I made an appointment because I was told over the phone that they schedule in 30-minute blocks. However, despite the shop having plenty of staff for the number of customers present, our entire session felt rushed. We were in and out in barely 10-15 minutes. Because it was his first time, I was hoping for a special experience, especially since they offer First Haircut certificates. My son did a great job, he was curious and looked around at the blow dryers, and only reached up his hands a couple times, but otherwise sat very still. Despite his good behavior, the haircut ended up choppy, uneven, and simply not what I asked for. To make matters worse, the "cleanup" was almost non-existent. The stylist barely wiped him down with a towel before handing it to me to finish cleaning the hair off him myself. She didn't even offer to blow dry the loose hair away. Even the keepsake certificate was a letdown--the photo they took and printed for us is blurry, which I didn't realize until it was already handed to me. This was supposed to be a special milestone, but instead, it felt like we were just a number to be cycled through as quickly as possible. I left feeling unhappy and would not recommend this shop for such an important first memory. read more

My 2 year old son had a less than ideal experience with his last hair cut at a different place and that has since caused him to be really afraid of getting his hair done to the point where he would walk around and talk about it weeks after it was already over. Today we had Ashley and she was amazingly patient and kind with him. She gave him a toy car to hold, gave him a lollipop & was overall just so gentle and kind. He also loved playing with the toys at the salon before and after his haircut which made it an even better experience for him! I used to get my haircut at EJ's when I was little. Today I took my firstborn here for a haircut today. We made an appointment, I think they take walk ins too. My son is 18 months old and he HATES haircuts, he cries and squirms, it is very challenging him to get haircuts. I forgot the name of his hair stylist today, she was wonderful. Had my sons first haircut done here a few months ago. Owner over the phone was super helpful and kind, made appointment for the next day. The young lady who cut my sons hair was quick and efficient and did a great job with fixing an original "at home haircut." However, she was fairly quiet and reserved, didn't seem to be interested in small talk or interacting with my son. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but did feel a little uncomfortable at some points. We will continue to use this barber shop , as they do a quick and clean job with a steady hand. Welcoming, friendly, great service! Staff are wonderful with my young son on the spectrum, who previously had a challenging time with haircuts. My son started getting haircuts there since 3 years old. They make him feel happy, comfortable, and safe. If he is not tolerating the sound of the electric razors, there is no fuss. Second time of having my daughter's haircut there first time was horrible uneven tried it again 2 years later same thing happened again very uneven ask for layers got a bowl cut that is very uneven we were the only people in the salon and I asked if she had time to blow dry her hair out which of course she did not have time so her hair looked even more horrible needless to say when we left my daughter was in tears I do not recommend having your daughter's hair done there they seem to only do well with boy haircuts only gave one star so I could write a review read more

Unpleasant and Tired Salon. I will start off by saying that this place is old and an entirely run down shop -- it looks tired from the outside and also inside. To add to that, the staff do not help the appearance not one bit. The prices are great for the concept they attempt to advertise as, but do not be fooled. We stopped in on a slow Saturday afternoon, as their shop indicates walk-ins are welcome and there's one person paying and getting ready to leave, and another in a chair but not a single soul otherwise. As soon as we walked in, we felt the cold demeanor and entire disregard for new clientele, there is a woman up front whom doesn't acknowledge us in any way or form whatsoever -- not a peep, not even a glance. We wait a few moments to see if anyone will give us any kind of greeting or even a nod, still nothing. Finally, I say, "It seems as though nobody is interested in helping," pretty quietly to my husband which means they were clearly aware we were there and paying attention just not interested in greeting us. Immediately, the woman cutting someone's hair replies that someone will be with us in a minute. Then, the woman up front says "who do we got here?" But it is said in such a monotone voice and literally zero facial expressions. I said, "This is Yusuf and we would like to get a quick fade on his sides if possible." She then tells us they're ALL booked up but we can wait until 12:30 to see if their next appointment shows up, nothing further -- not a warm smile nor eye contact, nothing. Mind you, this entire conversation seemed forced and as though she would rather we just not even speak to her. My husband is fully dissatisfied and says no and advises we go elsewhere. At this point we had nothing left to say, really. So, walked out with nothing else but thank you and again, no audible response from anyone, no further interaction. This salon lacks a ton of effort and customer service. My mother had been a hairdresser for a major part of her life and I practically grew up in a salon, this is not proper etiquette for any business let alone for a salon, especially that of one geared toward children. As I said above, this place is decently priced for the appeal and concept they advertise but it definitely does not fit the expectations most parents would have. Please don't visit this place if you expect a warm and inviting salon for your little ones, or a warm welcome and any type of customer service for yourself -- take your business elsewhere. read more

My wife and I took our son (2 yo) for his first haircut here today. We called in advance knowing he'd be a nightmare. Luckily enough, we got him randomly booked with Denise, the owner. Not only is the entire place filled with kid friendly toys, but Denise and the staff are so friendly and accommodating. Our son did better than expected with the haircut but Denise had toys and an extremely child friendly approach to how she cut his hair. Once everything was done, it turned out to be the most amazing cut and exactly what we wanted. This place blew our expectations out of the water to be honest. This was my 21-mo's very first haircut, and while he's generally a mellow and sociable little guy, he spooks easily, so I knew I had to strategize and find a place that specializes in first haircuts. Ashley was absolutely delightful. She couldn't have been nicer or more patient with both of us. My little one cried and hung tight to my chest and shoulder throughout, but Ashley was wonderful; patiently and carefully going about the the haircut while also setting aside trimmings for the presentation folder. I try to support small local businesses but I'm over it with this one. The experience at the salon is always A bit weird. I've taken both my daughters here and they do give a good haircut. The staff always seems tired and a bit irritated and they are kind of rude to both kids and grown-ups. They don't introduce themselves they don't talk to you. Also, I can style my curly haired kids better than they can. Even when you pay for the style, they don't blow dry the hair. When I asked for it, they didn't do any attempt to style, they just ran their fingers through the hair and didn't completely dry it or shape it. I'm not gonna take my kids somewhere where I can do a better job Or their grandma can do a better job cutting kids bangs and they can. Save yourself the hassle and the attitude. There's plenty of more friendly places out there that you can support that help kids get great haircut and styles. read more

We had a great experience here last Friday. It was extremely easy to get an appointment and, unlike other local kids salons, you can pay with a Visa! Convenient location off Sunrise and parking right out front as well. Alexa or Alexis (sorry, I don't remember her name!) was available for our appointment the moment we walked in the door which I was grateful that we did not have to wait. The cut itself was very quick and she did a great job with exactly what I asked for. Alexa was VERY friendly as well but the conversation did not distract her from her work, which I appreciate. I just wanted a slight trim, which I was clear about, and near the end the stylist grabbed thinning shears and started taking chunks out of our son's bangs. She didn't even ask and it looks terrible. Nope. HUGE mistake. The "stylist" was rude and the haircut was awful. So bad that I came back to yelp a day later to emphasize just how bad it was. We asked for a fade, she just didn't do it. The lines are jacked and there are spots in his undercut that didn't even get touched by the clippers. When asked if we wanted her to cut the top of his hair, she just told us he didn't need it before we could say that we'd like him to have a trim. She didn't speak to our child at all. She didn't do one thing we asked for. She made it very clear that cutting children's hair is the LAST thing she wants to be doing with her life. We usually take him to an upscale salon with a kind and experienced stylist, but thought he would enjoy a kid focused experience. Aside from some toys, there was nothing kid friendly about the experience. Save your money and just go somewhere else to begin with rather than paying EJ's and whoever you have to pay to fix their mess. Most legit salons or barber shops will do a killer kids haircut for 25 bucks or less. They may not have a super kid focused environment, but they'll likely treat you and your kid a lot better and they'll give your kid a MUCH better service. Side note: They also don't display their cosmetology licenses at their stations so we don't know if the lady that cut our kids hair is even trained or licensed. read more
