I have always been a fan of this place until today! No longer a customer. What is wrong with customer service? The place has been busy and never had it taken an hour or more to get food at the bar. Came here on a Friday night with 2 girlfriends. We wanted a place with good drinks and appetizers to munch on while we caught up. We met there at 8:30pm. It wasn't what we thought it was going to be like? Bright lights, very casual crowd, and a short appetizer menu. It felt more like a dive bar in a nice restaurant. There is nothing wrong with a dive bar, I love one every once in a while! However, it just wasn't the vibe we were going for. Anyway, we were craving like veggies as appetizers (Brussels sprouts or cauliflower or carrots, anything!) but they had more like bar food (nachos, fries, onion rings, etc.). The entrees did look good but we didn't want anything too heavy since it was later in the night. Anyway, my girlfriends ordered beer and I ordered a gin drink that I actually liked. Not sure how but apparently they were out of the ingredients by the time I ordered my second drink (around 9:15pm!). Sucks, so I switched over to a Moscow mule. It was ok. I just really wasnt feeling it, I guess. Maybe if I had known ahead of time what to expect (bright lights, ok drinks, no healthy appetizers) I would of liked it more? Who knows... I first I called to see if they were showing the ufc fight that day. I called and asked if they were showing the fight a young lady answered the phone and said yes and before I could ask if the bar was crowded she immediately hung up the phone..... strike one. So I went there anyway with my girlfriend. When I walked in the door it looked like a lot of the seats were taken. I looked at a staff member to ask where there any more seats available and she literally looked away from me and walked back into the bar. Ifan look at another staff member at the back of the bar near where they pick up the food from he caught eyes with me and looked away and went back into the kitchen area. Well believe it or not I guess free speech doesn't exist in the longer I went to the E j's this evening and was told that I would not be served because of the review I left on yelp. Mind you, I've never been disrespectful or rude, I just exercised my right to leave a review on how I was treated. Had no idea that if the manager did not like your review, she would ban you from the establishment. I know that each business has a right to refuse service, but this is more like retaliation because of my views. I've been to EJ's a few times but I haven't been back since their big remodel. The set up inside is the same as it was except all of the seating and tables are new also they have a new fire pit and seating in the front patio. It's really nice . Some ladies sitting there with wine in front of the open fire had the right idea. They have a bar along the front of the restaurant. I ordered the Po Boy sandwich which is usually made with an Irish banger, I upgraded it to a fried fish sandwich. It comes with fries but for $2 more you can upgrade to onion rings, tater tots or sweet potato fries. I upgraded to onion rings. The sandwich was really good. The fish was golden brown and not greasy at all. The roll was soft and delicious. It was reasonably priced at $14. (Regularly $12 but $2 extra for the fish upgrade). We also had their locally brewed Blonde lager. It was really good as well, $6. I'll come back! read more

I stopped by last night and asked if they had braised short ribs. They said yes and they are great. I went on yelp and could not find any pictures for the braised short ribs so I was a little nervous. I ordered them for lunch today and the braised short ribs are amazing. I spoke with the manager and she said It's a brand new recipe. The meat is extremely tender and flavorful. The portion sizes reasonable. It comes with mashed potatoes and vegetables The service was good. Micheal is a great server and bartender. The restaurant is always crowded. They have a great outdoor patio area. I stumbled upon this place accidentally a few weeks ago and decided to give it a try and I am so glad that I did! The servers were all very nice and attentive for how busy they were. The overall atmosphere is very cool, great lighting! The drinks were all made perfectly with a great selection of beers & liquors, However the most memorable thing was the food! I've been wanting to come here for a long time! I was finally able to get around to I it and pay a visit. It was worth the wait. They have a good beer selection, then we looked at the menu and everything sounded good. We ordered the hangover burger, it did not disappoint! The bun is a French toast brioche and the burger is packed with fresh pickles, bacon and a sunny side egg. The sausage platter with red mash potatoes was also slamming. The good... plenty of TVs, a beer selection & whisky choices that should offer something for everyone . If you are looking for a place to watch a game (or a match), you could do worse. The challenges... Rough quality of food. Avoid the short ribs, short rib sandwich and Philly sandwich. Stick to the wings or fish 'n' chips. The next challenge is one with which everyone is seemingly having struggles. That is service. The service team on the floor were working extraordinarily hard and were simply set up to fail. Too many tables and too few members of the team to cover their needs. I realize there are many factors involved and thoroughly appreciated everyone's effort. I just ate inside at EJs in Bixby Knolls. Happy to go inside but not happy with my order. I ordered the Beef Dip sandwich. The entire sandwich looked and tasted like leftover scraps. Over cooked and stringy pieces. It was very salty and dry. If I could do it over again I would have sent it back. It was not worth the $. I could only manage to eat a little more than half before I decided it was as bad as I thought it was... I was hungry. Won't be going back there for a while. My hubby and I came for a lunch date. We had the corned beef cabbage with mashed potatoes and gravy, house salad with blue cheese dressing, the French dip sandwich, beer battered onion rings and Mexican beer. The corned beef was delicious and tender, the cabbage was cooked to perfection, the mashed potatoes were delicious and so was the gravy. I would have to give this place a call solid 3.75 Stars. I was probably greeted when I arrived there was a seat up at the bar just for me and they were friendly servers. The bartender was super cool and gave me a menu. He asked if I've ever been here before and I told him no this is my first time. Ironically the people were sitting next to me our regulars and we're surprised that I've never been to an EJ malloy's before. I was quick to order a Moscow Mule, and the bartenders served it right up. I have to say it was pretty strong and quite tasty especially after the long day I had. I requested a dinner menu and the regulars next to me were nice to make suggestions: Pork belly skewers - serve with coleslaw and pickles and topped with another kind of purple pickle the slaw was delicious and so where the pickles. The pork belly was in a yummy sort of soy glaze. But that's about it the pork belly was so tough that I couldn't even chew it. I did let the bartender know and he just shook his head and apologized. I told him that they probably cook it too long. Meatball sliders - the total redeeming part of the meal was a little bummed about the pork belly and was not that hungry however One Taste of slider was really nice the meatballs were soft and tender and fit nicely in the bun. The Chunky Tomato Sauce that used out all over the place was all the little on the sweet side , I appreciated it. Most importantly of this meal... the Moscow mule was served in its traditional copper cup. The drink / elixir completely quenched my thirst. The restaurant is nice and open and from what the regular say they're going to expand the restaurant into another space. Which looks like they could use it. They're nice TVs over the bar and I do see that people can bring their kids into this place looks like a family joint. Love this place. Great local bar and always have the best cocktails and beers on tap. Tonight I picked up a couple slices of their razzelberry pie and a couple of Old Fashioneds. The pie was yummy and tart and the drinks were awesome and potent as usual. I miss coming here more often as I dont live in the neighborhood anymore but come to visit when I can. They post their daily specials on their Facebook page. Their house salad is top notch with a variety of veggies and their burgers are amazing. Their Ghost Pepper and Short Rib Poutine is my all time favorite with a hint of heat with a very rich meat sauce with poutine covering yummy fries. Best comfort food. read more

Update: after posting my review I received a snarky message from the business manager. Clearly customer satisfaction is not her priority. As I said before, this place USED to be great. The combination of a terrible atmosphere, and lack of regard for customers by management means I will definitely NOT be going here anymore. Further, i would NOT recommend this plane to ANYONE. Original Review: Recently came here for two sporting events, the MacGregor fight and then the dodgers series. The food and service were good both times, but there was an off duty staff member at both events who brought her child to watch the events. Now, iThis woman, at both events, left her kid at the table alone while she got drunk. It totally ruined the experience for me. I spent my whole night worrying about her daughter sitting alone in a busy bar instead of enjoying my night. read more

It's been years since my last review here, and all this time we keep coming back. Their weekend brunch is still what seems like the best kept secret in town. The service is always stellar, even when they seem short staffed due to Covid. They've always done their best to be accommodating, even when my six year old only wants a giant plate of veggies and some fries, they make it happen. Three stars for all of the servers, because it's normally one of my favorite places to go. So after waiting in line for a lengthy amount of time. I verified I was in the right place to take my order to go. Soon after being in the front of the line, the line began to grow behind me. So a server Corre takes the people's order behind me instead of mine. I'm flabbergasted like did she not see me. But I'm quiet. The couple she takes the order for says to her she was in front of us referring to me. She proceeds to tell me Jason told me to take care of them. The lovely couple feels bad and gives Corre $20 towards my order; after I insist they not pay for anything. Didn't wanna seem like a charity case and it was her mistake not theirs. I appreciated the offer. I left hurt and completely embarrassed by her making a spectacle of it all in front of everyone at the bar. Corre pocketed the money quickly pointed at me rudely telling me she has been working for 12 hours and she's off she was taking care of them because Jason told her to. I proceeded to tell her I was next in line. She then yells at me and points at me like I'm a child. I tell her not to point at me at the end of the day should could've just taken responsibility and apologized, and said something along those lines like I didn't know you were next. I told her all of this could've been swept under the rug if you just apologized . I hate to pull the race card, and I'm not. I don't think I should peg anyone with that based off of rudeness alone...but it definitely has me think. I'm black she's white and the couple was white. I'm just going to say she was extremely rude and needs a class on etiquette and taking responsibility. I hope someone from management or the owner contacts me after learning she was the manager that night despite my receipt reading another servers name. It was Friday. The workload wasn't getting any smaller. The lady in the corner office was being more annoying than ever. Did I mention it was Friday?? Not only that, but it was the best kind of Friday... It was of the payday type! So, me & my girls decided to grab a much needed drink during our lunch break. We hopped in the car and raced right over to EJ's. We thought it would be a brilliant idea to order our meals to-go while we filled up on a brew or two. You know, to make the day go faster! The place was full and the servers were extra busy. We sat down and waited. Just siting and waiting. Finally we made our drink and food orders about 10 minutes in. Then more waiting. It wasn't that bad since we were with good company but we ended up having two beers and our food made its way to us over 30 minutes later, which was cutting it real damn close! My soup and salad was okay. While my salad with balsamic was insanely basic, the clam chowder was actually really good. Maybe it was just soaking up the beer in my belly but man did the toast go great with it too. The soup wasn't overly thick and had good chunks of clams and veggies in it. I was skeptical since the menu stated all soups are made from scratch, and it really didn't disappoint. EJ's: Good food, slow service, & regular brews. Decided to stop by here after visiting the bmx art show across the street. Saturday night at 9 pm and this place was pretty empty. We settled in the corner and ordered some drinks. I was happily surprised that it was happy hour...on a Saturday night! We all ordered wings seeing how they were half off. The wings were perfect. Not drenched in sauce and with the perfect amount of spice. I ordered medium because the word nuclear scares me. They were served with fresh celery and carrots and a big dish of blue cheese dressing. The first time I went to this bar I had a great experience. Despite it being crowded due to the "First Friday" event, we were seated fairly quickly and had good service. The second time I went, a few weeks later, it was the total opposite. It wasn't crowded at all and my boyfriend and I sat at the table nearest the entrance. Their was waitress at the table next to us. She was having a conversation with the people at the table. We waited almost 10 minutes and she never acknowledged us. So my boyfriend went to the bar to get us some beers. The bartender, a skinny white guy in a hat, didn't acknowledge him either. After about five minutes, I walked up to the bar and said, "excuse me." Even though I said it loud enough for him to hear me, I was ignored as well. The guy pretty much gave me his back as he played with the money in the cash register. I waited about 5 minutes and then we walked out. I wonder if they pick and choose who they will be assholes to...I'll miss their garlic fries, but not their service. read more

Order the Cajun chicken philly and a side of wings. My server informed me "the wings are no longer on happy hour." I brush it off as no big deal (but they were a HH item on my last visit). The HH menu does say $3 off "select appetizers"; better would be off "the following appetizers". Precision is key in my book. It stands to reason that if their wings are no longer a HH item, what else is exempt? Posted HH is Monday - Friday 3 - 6pm and later on Wednesday and Friday until close. Really torn about this place; the food is fine and portions are good for the price point. Parking is wonky (welcome to Atlantic Avenue), service is on the moderate/slow side (kitchen, servers and bartenders are spot-on) but it a nice cozy spot. Find EJs under "The Thrill is Gone" list.
