Another unassuming gem in the desert! Came with a few friends for lunch, service was excellent, and this place did not disappoint. I ordered a margarita and beef chimichanga. It was the best chimichanga I've ever had. Thankfully, there were no bell peppers or onions, which is usually mixed in with the meat. It was strictly cheese and great tasting beef, which was a winner! The black bean puree was simply delicious. I would ask for all beans next time as I don't prefer rice. They have some unique items on their menu, including a bone marrow burger, and many different steak and chicken plates. Four of us enjoyed our meal here: we started by sharing a whole fried fish, then each of us ordered a main--a burger with marrow, picanha over rice with corn and chimichurri, flank steak with fries, and carne asada. They have a huge menu and the butcher is next door. The assorted meat plates looked delicious and generous --I'd try one of those next time. We had margaritas, beer, and my personal favorite, a Jamaica with chili salt on the outside of the glass (great for balancing sweet and spicy/salty) and a Jamaica popsicle on top to melt into the drink instead of diluting it with ice. Our server was great friendly, fast, with a great sense of humor. Ordered for pickup over the phone, food was ready within 20 minutes. Went to the location for my first time and love the look on the interior and outdoor patio. There was a bunch of couples and families sitting down and outside in the patio. I ordered shrimp ceviche and an el pastor burrito. It was delicious!! The burritos are huge and packed with flavor and that goes for the ceviche too. It came with roasted salsa and a green avocado cilantro salsa. Perfection! Staff was friendly and welcoming. Good food but horrible service from the owner himself! My wife ordered a shrimp cocktail and specifically asked the waitress, who was very nice, that the shrimp be deveined and cleaned. She said no problem. When we got the cocktail the shrimp were not deveined. . When we told the waitress about it, the owner came out all pissed off and told us that we're crazy and that nobody asked for the shrimp to be deveined. He then told us to leave! It's really too bad because the rest of the food was good, but the way he reacted to us was very unprofessional. I won't allow anybody to speak to my wife in such a disrespectful manner. What started out as a good experience went horribly wrong. I suggest the owner brush up on his customer service skills. read more

Found this little spot while on our way to El Centro Ca. Just off the 10 freeway in Cathedral city this is definitely a spot I want to return and try their other selection of yummy food. Great portions and reasonably priced. They're also partnered with a meat shop right next-door so they know how to specialize on marinating and cooking the meat to perfection. Service was great. I've tried most of the menu and haven't had a complaint once. The service is perfect. The owner is there practically every night. People come so often everyone seems to be on a first name basis. It's just ok, me and my wife ordered the Carne Asada fries, which were pretty decent IMO and we shared a chimichanga with the shredded beef. It kind of had no flavor and it wasn't shredded. First let me start with the service, the wait staff was a step above. They were kind and very attentive. We ordered a beef chimichaga and mole enchiladas. Both were very good, I would most likely be back to try other dishes for sure. Afterwards we visited the attached market next door with the same name. Yes they are the same place. We stumbled on El Asado through Google reviews and photos...and it turned out to be the best food we've had a long a restaurant in a long time! Their meat market is already impressive, but their food, flavors, plating and ambiance was incredible! My husband and father-in-law shared the El Asado, i had the pictured Chimichanga, and my mother-in-law had the Pozole Verde. The portions were perfectly hearty (enough for to-go boxes), but the flavors were the highlight. EVERYTHING in my plate tasted phenomenal. If you want really great food, GO HERE. read more

I had dinner here with my favorite dining companion. The ambiance is subdued except for the bright spotlight above each table, which could have the same effect with just less lumens. The food is quite good and has some unexpected items to try on the menu. My dining companion had the poblano patty melt, which was tasty but the multigrain rye bread had a sweet flavor which did not allow for complete enjoyment. A side taco was also ordered and was tasty. I had the enchiladas de mole. Quite good but the smoky notes overpowered the rest of the sauce. The frijoles were prepared without flavor enhancement which left them bland. My dining companion ordered the horchata, which came with a horchata popsicle in the drink for a nice presentation flair. The service was okay, we had a new waitstaff member in training. They will be good once they learn the menu better. It did take a few conversations and the help of another waitstaff member to get my order to the kitchen. Outside dining is an option but they have no lights for nighttime service out there. A pleasant enough experience and definitely worth a visit when in Cathedral City. read more
