So I'm giving two stars because of the six dollar margaritas and the service was great! Now for the food, we ordered the shrimp enchiladas plate all three enchiladas are served in small tortillas and then the beans are served in a little saucer that is for sauces and a small portion of rice for $24, and then now we wanted our seafood fix, so we order the LARGE campechana seafood mix for $23, I would absolutely love to know how small the size is for the regular because this is outrageously small and it's filled with imitation crab. Hard to beat this restaurant, right off the bat, just walking through the door, very welcoming, seated right away, refreshments on the table within a couple of minutes, skinny marg was delicious!. Chicken wings were excellent, the barbecue dipping sauce is just barbecue sauce, but probably the best you have ever had. We are regulars at La palapa and my family has been coming here since I was young. My go to is the tostada de camarón which ALWAYS has the perfect amount of shrimp compared to other restaurants that pack on the veggies. My boyfriend always gets the carne asada torta which always has so much meat and the bread is always super soft! The Michelada's with Pacifico are always so refreshing. if you like aguas frescas definitely try their agua de piña so delicious especially on a hot summer day! La palapa always gives me the vibes like I am eating with family. Service is good but people expect to get serviced as they are eating at a 5 star restaurant. Very poor experience. Ordered from La Palapa for the first (and last) time while staying down the street for the holiday. We went against our instincts based on a local friend's recommendation. We were very disappointed with the quality and preparation of the food. I chose to pick up the food from the restaurant. The food was packed and bagged already, so they did not go through the order. That said, I had to return for 2 important parts of the order that were missing. I am from LA. I am all about Mexican food. I've been all across Mexico and back, and I know good Mexican food. This isn't it. It's uninspired and to me nearly inedible. We ordered a bunch of different things for 6 people. Everyone was disappointed. It was a shame how much of the food got tossed. read more

We stopped at La Palapa about an hour before they closed and ended up be the last customers of the day. Great service, friendly and helpful. The food - just average. Nothing special, nothing bad. I ordered 4 tacos - shredded beef, shredded chicken, asada, and al pastor. The two shredded taco's were the best of the bunch, especially the chicken with green salsa. We also tried a fish taco and a bean and cheese burrito, which both were good - just not outstanding. The salsa that comes with chips was just ok. With the tacos I was served a small serving of a tomatillo salsa which actually was excellent. It went well on the bean and cheese burrito. We walked in an hour before they closed on a monday night, we had the place to ourselves. The staff was friendly & helpful. I ordered a fish taco $4.50 which was huge & delicious. It was nice that it had 2 tortillas which I use to make 2 tacos out of the one. I also got the bean & Cheese Burrito $3.99. Just beans & cheese and I loved it! Again it was a huge burrito. Came to Palm Springs and wanted to get some Mexican food after being in a food desert up in Seattle. Let's just say I was extremely disappointed in my food here. I got a shrimp dish and my friend got some seafood platter...probably the wrong things to order to start with. Let's just say, as the food came out and we started to dig in (we were super hungry), flies literally came out of our dish as if they were buried deep underneath everything. Honestly, I really couldn't eat anymore of the food after that experience. I really just stuck to the chips and guacamole/salsa until the kids at the table next to us (outdoor dining w/ a large distance from each table) came near us and coughed in our vicinity. Well, there goes that as well. And to top it off, our meal for 2 people with 2 plates, 1 drink and extra guacamole cost us $50. FIFTY! For a terrible lunch that had flies coming out of it...it still is shocking to me how much that meal was. Would not come here again.... let alone even try to believe the high ratings for this place. Well, this place had decent reviews and we were looking for a place to grab a quick lunch in the area. The chips and salsa were a good start and it went downhill from there. 3 of us ordered 4 items total from the menu and each item was delivered to the table separately and with a space of 3-8 minutes between items. The first food item took a long time to come to begin with. At the end of our meal we waited more than 15 minutes for our check and had to ask for it a second time. So service...way below par. For the food.. Fish tacos were delicious! Light, crispy batter and a huge portion of fish. Enchilada plate was good, nothing exceptional but was ok. Chile Relleno Burrito was very dry and not very good at all. A large flour tortilla with rice and a cheese stuffed chile. No sauce, no batter on the chile. Lacked in flavor. Empanadas were gross and we sent them back. Two HUGE, doughy things plopped on the plate. They were under cooked and then split open, stuffed with shredded iceberg lettuce (core pieces and all) and smothered with crema. They were soggy, greasy, and overall completely unappetizing. Definately won't be back. With the over abundance of Mexican food options in the area, I recommend trying a different one. read more

customers for at least 10 years , at least once or twice a week. Used to have shrimp and fish soup and my wife the shrimp platter, spending 75/80 bucks a week. Last week, my wife was served shrimp with the heads half detached from the body, manifestly rotten, black, mushy, and stinky. We showed the waitress, she gently answered that they were delivered to them that way. My wife ordered tacos instead and they were delicious. They did not accept that we pay the bill, which we appreciated. But we will never go back , since we don't know what they really serve in their dishes. One visit and I am a fan. My Yelp stalkers know that I only really care about beans. Good beans are the hallmark of a good Mexican restaurant. I was not disappointed. The decor is a bit "unique." I'm not sure I understand the dolphin shaped mirrors. None of that matters, however. The food trumps anything one might see there. The menu features mostly seafood. They do have some "typical" Mexican dishes like enchiladas and chiles rellenos. I was super tempted to order the milanesa, but I decided to get some fish. I asked for the filete relleno. The fish was cooked perfectly. Inside, there was some perfectly cooked octopus, abolone and shrimp. I asked for ranchero sauce on top. Some ground dried chile was brought to the table. I dusted my whole dish with that. I should have added more. The plate was huge. My salad was just garnish for the fish. Instead of rice and beans, I just asked for beans. I'm glad I did. They have a creamy texture and a good mouthfeel. I'm detecting some sort of manteca in them. Delicious. My order came with corn tortillas. They combined my tortillas with my two colleagues who ordered the fajitas mixtas. (Those looked damn tasty!) We had at least a dozen corn tortillas. It seems that places ration corn tortillas these days, but not here! The corn tortilla drought is over! One of my colleagues ordered the aguachiles. I snuck one off his place. Mighty delicious. I may order that the next time I go in. Iced tea glass was Leslie-sized. I was super happy. Good brew. Prices are reasonable for the quality and portions of the food. Tiny authentic laid back Mexican restaurant that seems sooo undervalued. We got tired of waiting at Casitas and hopped across the street to try this place out. Not only is the price right, they served some of the best chili rellenos I've had in a while. As a bonus, whole friggin limes adorn your beer mug. Originally rated this as 4 stars, however, upon reflecting on our vacation, this was our favorite meal. Upgraded to 5 stars upon returning to a chilly Boston airport. read more
