I don't know how it was when it opened but I've been here a few times and each time I was satisfied with my food and the service I received. The staff is friendly. Don't know where all the negative reviews are coming from! This place is down the block from my apartment and I am simply addicted to their burritos. Their green sauce is to die for. I've pretty much eaten all their burritos and they've got pinch, flavor, quantity, and quality. It's so close by that I end up eating these for dinner every other day now! This place is awesome. First off killer burritos and quesadillas. Also great dietary options. But the best part of this place is the service. They care about the customer. Once when I was picking up from the store the owner asked about my order and what my opinion on some new items/ ingredients. More recently I ordered from GrubHub and GrubHub failed to send a delivery driver several times and never notified me that the restaurant closed. There response was the usual "we will do better. Here is 10% off our crappy service". Because of the delay it was too late to order from any where else and my roommate who had been traveling all day with no food and dietary restrictions was probably not going to find food until the morning. That's when the owner called me and told me he was sending over my food in an Uber. Out of pocket! Which was completely unnecessary because I never once blames El Barrio for the mishap and they went completely out of their way to remedy it. Just wow. I'm truly blown away and grateful. read more

I'm also a bit surprised by the number of negative reviews this place has, considering I've always come here with at least a few people ahead of me waiting for an order. Being from the Bay Area in CA, I'm pretty picky about what a good taco or burrito is in New York and when my fellow-CA roommate told me this place was good, I had to give it a try. Ordered a Chicken Bay Burrito and was impressed. Side salad is great with the jalapeños, burrito is large, my first time didn't have a lot of guac but the second time I had plenty, good bean to rice ratio, and the chicken is tender. It's a solid burrito, certainly better than some overpriced stuff I've had in the city, and I hope people have more positive experiences here. read more

Are you kidding me? A $30 delivery minimum? And you mess up orders all the time? Your food is delicious but service is horrendous. I appreciate all the vegan options, but when I have tried to order the black bean tacos with no cheese and vegan sour cream they have always come with cheese. If your going to request people order a MINIMUM of $30 worth of food, the least you could do is pay attention to their special orders. I'm vegan by choice but what if someone had an actual dairy allergy? Do you want them to have to deal with calling and getting the order fixed? The food here is great, but again horrible service. Needs new management and folks who work there that care about keeping customers happy! read more

HORRIBLE SERVICE. After having to wait almost an hour for my delivery the food was cold and Unenjoyable!! I called to speak to a manager about the horrible service and cold food and he said to me "what do you want me to do about that?" - he obviously doesn't care about customer service or the quality of how his food is being handled. I spent over 30$ with this restaurant but I surely won't be doing that again! Don't order from here until you're actually hungry since you'll have to wait an hour to rcv your food and make sure you have a microwave to use to warm your food up -_-! This place is a bit tricky for me to review. The food is good. It's not authentic Mexican but it is indeed good. However, they always seem to get something wrong with my order. Today I ordered a naked burrito and the girl asked if I wanted refried or black beans and I said refried. Since I'm used to them getting things wrong I double checked that the receipt on the bag said refried beans and it did, but when I got home I saw that they gave me black beans. Sure, it might sound like nothing but it's just that something like this has happened every time I've been there, they always get something wrong, forget to give me something I've ordered, even those times when the place is completely empty and not busy at all. read more

Went to this place to grab a burrito and was relatively happy with what I received. The place itself does not have anywhere to sit down and eat so you have to pretty much do take out. We called for pick up and that worked out well. The bag we received was missing utensils and napkins which was a bit disappointing. The taste of the burrito was okay and the portion was pretty large. They also give you a side of chips and salsa with your order of a burrito. If you're looking for something that is very filling and don't care about taste very much then this is a good place to visit. read more

I respect this place, it's prices and service. But the quality of the food is disappointing. I've never ordered a good burrito from here. The tortillas you guys use are insulting (constructive criticism). I can never differentiate between the flavors of any of the burritos. Its always some sort of dry salty ingredients packed into a clay like tortilla. Most things taste like it's from a can. While ordering, the owner had the effrontery to ACCUSE me or a previous customer for not tipping the delivery man. As false as this is, he was super nasty. As a business owner or employee. You do not do that to your customers. We at the barbershop was very insulted. We have recommended a tremendous amount of people to this place and they will lose a lot of money from us, due to the owners ignorance and unprofessionalism. I don't understand all the bad reviews for this place. The food was just amazing, kinda Chipotle style. Delivery wasn't super fast but completely fair. We ordered the grilled veggie burrito and the grilled veggie naked burrito. They were both full of fresh vegetables and guacamole. Super tasty and a good amount. The delivery guy was really nice, he brought it up to the 4th floor (walkup) with a smile on his face and said 'Have a great evening'. Most of the times delivery guys are out of breath and unhappy. I've had some decent food from El Barrio in the past. Usually hit or miss. Coming from a vegetarian perspective I have not been that impressed with their vegetarian burritos. The vegetables don't seem that fresh and they seem like they are just thrown together and not well thought out. Also, and this goes for many mexican/hispanic restaurants out there, and you know who you are: refried and black beans can be a serious GAMBLE!!! If they aren't fresh or rinsed properly before preparation, you and your surroundings will be paying the price in the nose category. The burrito is pretty consistent every time...but I don't know what's up with the rice...it's always mush and it's not even close to how it's utilized or even made in all the Mexican burritos I've had in a decade plus. The menu has a good selection of burritos, quesadillas, tacos, and sides at reasonable prices. However, I tried the Vegan Mission burrito ($7) last night and was disappointed. The brown rice was overcooked and made up the majority of the filling, with somewhat skimpy amounts of black beans and guacamole plus some lettuce and vegan sour cream. Overall, the flavor was fairly bland and lacked heat. I poured on a small container of hot sauce they provided upon request, which had good flavor but wasn't especially spicy. I had ordered the salad option that comes included with burritos, and was also disappointed when it turned out to be a small amount of shredded Iceberg lettuce with a few pieces of diced tomato on top. I love vegetarian burritos, but this one was just not well-seasoned or well-cooked. read more
