I was introduced to this lovely small restaurant this week as the guest of honor at my own surprise retirement party. The restaurant was decked in colorful flags and a patio "ocean-side" (really Saratoga Ave side) had colorful sun umbrellas to allow outdoor dining while shielding us from hot sun. I had a chance to try El Buen Sazon - this is a cute little Mexican eatery that is perfect for a visit with yummy Mexican food. I ended up trying the Al pastor burrito and chicken burrito which both were amazing. I also tried the fries which was very yummy and I enjoyed thoroughly. By far the best Mexican breakfast spot I've tried this year! I found this place on TikTok and have driven past it multiple times without noticing. So glad I stumbled upon this place. We dined in during breakfast time. There is so much variety in the menu here it was hard to pick just one plate. We ordered the Mexican Benedict and the Chilaquiles TriColor. I have no words!!! Both plates were delicious and the meats were seasoned so well. The chilaquiles had three different sauces and my favorite was the green sauce. It was late on a Sunday and we just wanted pancakes, and didn't wanna make it at home. We figured Denny's was the only choice available until this place showed up on yelp. I called ahead to make sure that they were still offering breakfast items and sure enough, they were! Helpful and professional staff. The food quality has gone down the last few times I've been there. Had the ceviche and tinga chicken tostadas. Both of them had the tostada shells which are deep fried over cooked and the shells were dark brown. The tostada was supposed to come with a side salad. I like coming here for a "junk food" dinner or snack like carne asada fries or a few tacos. The shrimp tacos are super good and juicy, the sauce is flavorful. They also have really good breakfast and brunch items. In my opinion the food and the drinks are very reasonably priced for San Jose, and for the quality. The wait staff is all so kind, helpful and quick - I never feel bitter full-tipping here. I like their little patio, it does a decent job of blocking off noisy and busy Saratoga Ave., and provides a lot of space so it doesn't feel too crowded outside even if it's busy. read more

I really enjoy their Huevos Rancheros, which is served on an open-faced fried tortilla kind of like a fusion of a Benedict and a taco. Their Birria is served in a skillet and I was instantly envious of my friend who had ordered it. I would really dig the Chilaquiles but their salsa verde is a little bit acidic for my taste. Their pozole has a good flavor but is a bit watery. The Cafe de Olla is also a good accompaniment to breakfast, with the cinnamon-accented coffee. The dining area looks like it used to be a classic American diner-type of restaurant. There is also a nice outdoor patio with 4-5 tables. I got the sense that it was a family-run business. They had barely opened when I called. There was a good amount of parking and I was the only customer. My order was already ready in the 10 or so minutes it took to drive over. I tried to pay with a credit card but their card reader wasn't working. Luckily brought cash, but they didn't have enough change and had to look around for change to give me. All in all. They were to great lengths to get me that change. A+ service, definitely made me want to come back. Got home and wow, great breakfast burrito. Yummy chorizo, great hash browns with bell peppers. I had the Cuban torta I've had many better ones out of taco trucks. It was extremely dry, no flavor, supposed to even have jalapenos but there was no heat. My wife had red beef enchiladas. The beef was very dry just something was not as good as other establishments where this is a tasty, popular dish. Chips were very thick, crunchy. I prefer the lighter crisper chips. But I know that's something that varies person-to-person. Good guacamole tomatillo salsa though. Some places rock as a breakfast place and fall short with their lunch or dinner menus. My friend treated me to a late lunch today. She had heard good things about El Buen Sazón and we were so happy to have dined there. Eric our server was very friendly and welcomed us to the restaurant. He told us that breakfast was still being offered and let us know about the daily special along with what drinks were offered. We sat outside. The traffic could get loud but did not take away from our visit. My friend and I both liked each salsa that accompanied the chips because they had a bit of a kick! The Tostada Bowl with birria was delicious. I ate too much because it hit the spot! My friend chose one of the starred items on the menu, the shrimp tacos. This is a busy family owned Mexican restaurant, so be prepared for a wait if you dine here. The small restaurant was packed at lunch time & the wet/ windy weather made it uncomfortable to sit in their patio area. We went inside to add our name on a wait list and we could see there were 2 tables being cleared. One couple was waiting outside & one of the servers told us he would clear the other table for us. However there are 2 doors to this restaurant and another young man walked in through the other door. As we stepped outside so as not to crowd out the other diners. The next thing we know, they had called the other couple ahead of us & given them the one table & then this young man (who came in after us) just sat down and took the table we were waiting for. He knew exactly what he had done as he saw us waiting before him. No staff member said anything to him but instead they told us they could clear an outdoor table for us as it was "crowded inside". It did not sit well with us & we almost left because it was pretty obvious what happened. I would suggest maybe they have only one door that allows diners inside & a written wait list, so they can fairly control table allocation. To say that it was not very pleasant outside today is an understatement. It was cold and the space heater they turned on, ran out of gas within 10 minutes. The other table that was eventually seated next to us asked to be moved inside. The food itself took a while to come out, but the Skillet Carnitas were very tasty. My side pancake unfortunately was served ice cold, so it had obviously been sitting on the counter for a while. My husband enjoyed his breakfast burrito & hash browns & the chips and salsa were good.
