Recently, a client recommended I stop by for a burrito during a busy day. I ended up dining in instead, and I'm so glad I did. The shop has a great, welcoming vibe--nothing fancy, just a solid little neighborhood gem. I enjoyed my meal right there and grabbed an extra plate to go for later. Both were fantastic! The flavors are bold, fresh, and genuinely mouth-watering. The crew deserves a huge shoutout--especially Adriana, Alejandra, and Juan. They're friendly, efficient, and clearly take pride in what they do. That kind of service makes you want to come back. I just wish they had a location closer to the San Jose, Campbell, or Los Gatos area (maybe near Good Samaritan Hospital?). I asked someone where to eat since I was going to be in the neighborhood for a doctor's visit, and she suggested El Burrito Express and recommended the tacos. I ordered one hard shell taco Pollo y Crema ($4.30) and one soft taco carnitas ($5.70). I also got free chips with salsa. The chips were really good--crispy and different from what I usually get. I didn't care much for the salsa. The hard shell taco pollo y crema had too much sauce, and it was dripping while I was eating it. I couldn't really taste the pollo (chicken) because of all the sauce, and I didn't care for the crema. The carnitas was good, and I liked the soft taco, but it was very filling--almost like eating a big burrito. The portion was large, and I couldn't finish it. Overall, if I'm in the neighborhood, I would eat here again, but I wouldn't order the Pollo y Crema taco again. read more

Always walked by this place but never tried until recently after an appt nearby. Got the NorCal and according to their menu, consisted of carne asada, grilled onions, cheese, house fries, guacamole, sour cream, pico de gallo, expresso sauce. Not sure what the expresso sauce was but it was delicious. The burrito itself is very filling. The only thing I don't like is the house fries inside this burrito, but that's more of a personal preference tho so if I order it again, I will probably ask them to leave that out. when am here I always get the Macho Burrito and plenty of chips/salsa, you should only buy this because the price you pay is just 10$ more for 2 super burritos. A super burrito is 16$, but Mucho burrrito is 25$, double the chicken, double the beans, double the guacamole, double the flavor baby and if your hungry and not afraid to say "No" to diet eat this and your tummy will love it. The green or guacomole sauce is the best, Has a lot of good spices, the right amount of jalapeño and makes my belly happy. The chips are very crispy and doesn't get soggy or too soft when mixed with the salsa or making nachos, so I suggest always order a extra bag of chips and salsa if you are a big aches and chips salsa fan. The only minor issue I have is finding parking here and find a decent spot to eat my food. Usually eating in the car is nice but once a while just enjoying your food outside in the sun is fun and can be so great. The staff is very friendly and I never had trouble with anyone here, most of the staff looks like they are having fun working and I barely see a unhappy guest, so there doing something good and the food really shows. Definitely a hot spot if you like Burritos, Tacos, and want to see the XXL Super Burritos or Macho Burrito. I went here with friends and told them they had a Godzilla Burrito and a crazy Horchata, they were never the same after eating here and kept coming back too. They have another location but the taste is funky I prefer this location. Pretty solid burrito spot in lower pac heights! I was craving a cali burrito and usually hit up El Farolito or Underdogs but I wanted to try something different. I ordered El NorCal burrito which had some perfectly charred carne asada, onion, fries, cheese, guacamole, sour cream, pico, and salsa. The burrito was a pretty decent size (almost two servings if I wasn't super hungry.) The flavors balanced each other out nicely and the burrito wasn't dry, which can happen in some cali-style burritos because of the fries. Their chips and salsa were also bomb--fresh, thick, and crunchy--but not super oily (I wish I grabbed more before I left). As for the restaurant itself, the interior was clean, there was good seating, and the staff were pretty friendly. There is also lots of street parking. I recently visited this location at the beginning of the month. A family member was staying at the UCSF Mt Zion campus, which was right up the street. (this location is walking distance from UCSF). My friend and I came here on a Monday evening for dinner. I ordered the El Norcal Burrito and my friend ordered the Chile Verde plate. My burrito was out of this world, it is definitely one of the best burrito's I have had in a long time. My friend said the Chile Verde was very good and had lots of flavor. Came here on a Friday night and it wasn't busy at all. We were served immediately and the food was so good! We got chips and guac and I got a carne asada wet burrito. It was so filling and delicious; it was only $15 and could definitely feed me for 2-3 meals. The chips and guac was a fantastic deal as well; they gave us a huge tub of guac and chips for only $6.50! Excellent burrito spot. Food was ready very quickly and everything was hot and fresh. We tried the norcal burrito which was great and the shredded chicken wet burrito which was sort of like an enchilada in that it was covered (smothered) in sauce. It was different but really good, I would probably opt for the carne asada in the wet burrito next time but that's just personal preference, both were tasty! I had been coming to EBX since they opened 30+ years ago. They are walking distance from my house. Very convenient. The food has been consistently excellent. The service has been consistently not great. I used to visit EBX once a week, sometimes twice a week for as long as they have been opened. I guess you would call me a long time customer. I pretty much ordered the same thing for myself and my family and the food was always good. Unfortunately, I would say 2 out of 4 times they would get my order wrong. A lot of times I wouldn't notice the order was incorrect or something was missing until I got home. I would have to walk back and let them know the order was wrong. I was always pleasant , even though this was a regular occurrence. About a year ago. I did my usual weekly visit. I got home and my burrito was missing . I called them and let them know. No apologies just "oh, you can come back and pick it up". I just got home and didn't want to walk back and wait for my order that should have been done correctly the first time. I just said forget it and can I get a refund. (No refund as of yet) It has been over a year and I haven't been back since and don't plan to. It's not worth the aggravation. I'm really bummed because I really like the food and EBX was my family's weekly go to for good take out food. I know this is an issue with other families in the neighborhood that go to EBX. The same thing. Foods great but, they can never get my order right. So, I know it's not just me. Also , the one employee that's usually at the register taking orders is so unpleasant. She's been there for years. Never smiles. Like I said I have been coming to EBX for 30+ years. Never a "hi" . I always feel like I'm inconveniencing her. I always say "hi" to her and she barely looks up and acknowledges me as a customer. She always seems like she doesn't want to be there, Like I said , I will take my business elsewhere where at least my business is appreciated. I have been going to Cumaica coffee shop for about the same time as I was going to EBX. They know my name and always, always get my order correct and are SUPER friendly. I recently went to buy a surf and turf burrito but it was mainly rice and beans. Flavor wise it is good. Another thing to have in mind prior to visiting this place is that there is no salsa bar, so you'll be getting those tiny cups already filled. Man, what a disappointment. I ordered the al pastor tacos and they came with lettuce and cheap shredded cheese and no cilantro or onions, no flavor at all ( should also point out tortilla was cold and it broke before I even grabbed my taco). My brother ordered shrimp tacos and it took almost 35 minutes for his to come out, long after the rest of us had already gotten our food. Just a mess. A manager has reached out and rectified the situation, treating me to a fix and letting me know it will not happen again. I am very appreciative of their kindness.. Cheese enchiladas and carne asada burrito/taquitos are delicious! It was really nice to get extra salsa verde and salsa roja, which went perfectly with my cheese quesadilla. The only thing that gets missed are the utensils/napkins even if I put it in the notes to include them, but since I always get delivery to work or home I have silverware to use just in case. The food is always fresh, travels well, and I like that I can order salsa in pint or half pint sizes in case I need extra hot sauce. They always include a complimentary baggie of chips and two small containers of salsa with every order. I recommend the green salsa - yummy! Went here for lunch with one of my co-workers. We definitely enjoyed the food. The food seems to be very fresh with real authentic Mexican flavors.
