Used to be a great spot for burritos, quesadillas and big taco shell tostadas but now it's one person doing it all and it's not well thought out just done by one person quickly. Our super burritos were disappointing with lack of seasoned carnitas, mushy rice, liquid like beans without the "Super" in the burrito. No sour cream, no avocado and no pico de gallo. Truly don't understand the negative and even middling reviews. This place is tasty, with a pretty wide menu, very good salsas, and efficient service. The grill is right there in the open, so the place smells awesome. Sure, seating it a little tight, 'cause it's a small space -- so, welcome to city living, people. Also, the staff is friendly. I'm not saying, in a city of tons of great Mexican and culinarily adjacent places that you need to drive across town to eat here, but if you're in the area, it's quite good, and very dependable. 5 stars for two specific features: +homemade corn tortillas: YUM. I love a homemade corn tortilla and not many places do them. Got a carne asada taco and it came on a delicious homemade tortilla. It really ups the deliciousness of a taco, and keeps much better structural integrity than an industrial from-a-bag tortilla. +salsa bar! I love serve-yourself salsa bars and this one was solid. Cute and clean, with the salsa containers well nestled in ice. A standard blended mild tomato salsa, a chunky non-spicy pico (aka my youngest's main vehicle for veggies these days), mild/medium green salsa, a fiery brick-red salsa (chile de arbol? Toasty with a great kick!), pickled jalapeños/carrots/onion that has a good kick (also appreciate they're chopped, rather than whole giant peppers), and cilantro/onion mix to put on your tacos. I was a bit surprised the taco came with shredded lettuce on the side and a sprinkle of cheese on top, but hey I'm not turning down some extra fiber and protein. I loaded it up with cilantro/onions from the salsa bar, plus all the salsas. Accompanying chips were thin, light, crispy. My son got a small bean/cheese burrito which the staff helpfully customized to his tastes. Service was quick and very friendly. Carne asada had a bit of gristle but eh, it can do that. My boyfriend and I have recently been going to Pancho's for dinner since it's a quick, easy, and reliable option. Pancho's is one of our favorite Mexican restaurants in San Francisco. The restaurant is bright and has great decorations. Service is good and efficient. All the meals come with chips and the salsa bar is fun. We always order the special Barria tacos or quesadillas. The slow cooked beef is so tender and the sauce is very deep and flavorful. You want to put it on everything. And the burritos and fajitas are also excellent choices. You definitely get your money's worth. Not my kind of taqueria. It's quite nice inside with all the artwork, very clean. I ordered a taco... was absolutely flavorless. I dined in for about 30-40 minutes taking my time. I watched maybe 12-14 customers come in and out and by my observation, this kind of establishment is good for the neighborhood, it has its clientele. I went in yesterday and had the most disgusting burrito I've ever had: their new "vegetarian" burrito, which is just rice, beans, some guacamole, fried onions and bell peppers. The food was okay, either bland or overly salty-with no other discernible flavors. The chips were crispy. The guacamole seemed like it was made of avocados and salt and it was too salty. I used to go to the Polk St location all the time so I don't want to be nasty and hurt your business but you guys have to care a little more about the food. I've been burned twice ordering the grilled chicken burrito. It's not good. The main issues are: - Waaaaaayy to much flour tortilla. It's to big, not enough filling and it's not folded properly. Most bites are like 80% tortilla. - The grilled chicken is carbonized, tough and tasteless. I don't have to wonder 'is this really chicken?' when I'm eating a chicken burrito. - The pico de gallo is bad, all I can taste is onions. These are all easily fixable issues. I love Pancho's food. I love the workers. I don't like the double taxation - the city sales tax and the service fee tax. The latter is alleged to be a boost to the worker's wages. There is a disappointing difference between the pre-lockdown and post-lockdown Pancho's. We enjoyed coming here prior to their shutdown, and we were sad when they closed down. Now that they've reopened, we will surely not be coming back. Last night we bought burritos for the whole family, and most of us ended up not feeling so good afterwards. The tortilla chips were stale, some so hard I had to spit them out. The burritos were dry, flavorless, and poorly made. My "super burrito" had all of its fixings (guacamole, sour cream) jammed all the way at one end if the burrito so I ate 80% of it before reaching them, then got a golf ball mouthful of sour cream at the end. The only reason this is as high as a a two-star rating is because our 9-year old liked his bean and cheese burrito, so there was one--albeit young--dissenting voice. read more

Chips tasted burnt, and lack flavor. Fresh tomato salsa didn't have spice. The Borrachi burrito chicken, which has bbq sauce was weird. It was like a mix of mole sauce with American bbq. I had been to Pancho's numerous times and liked it. But I went a week or so ago at 11am, their opening time, and there was a chair blocking the entrance, and I was told they weren't ready yet. At 11:15 the finally opened. So yesterday I went again after checking their web site to make sure they still opened at 11. I waited longer so I would arrive at 11:15 in case they were late opening again. This time they told me they didn't open until 12. I don't know if that was now their regular opening time, as they wouldn't really talk to me. I had walked there which took about 15 minutes, and I didn't want to wait 45 minutes, or return home and then back at noon. I won't be coming there at all any more. read more

Burritos here were pretty solid but nothing too amazing. The green salsa was good, try it with lime on the burrito. I got the steak burrito with black beans, which was better than some of the other burritos I've had in the city. This place is on par with mexican food in San Francisco. Nothing spectacular but not bad. I'd like it if it were a little less expensive, I don't think Mexican food should be fancy or expensive. In fact, thinking about it more I've had way better tacos for way less even here in San Francisco. I had two tacos Pastore and a drink. The pastor was wet and juicy but didn't really have a lot of flavor. They did however have a nice salsa bar which made the tacos tolerable. Also, the tortillas are hand pressed and fresh. Unfortunately the fresh tortillas didn't have much flavor either. It's not that it's bad, its just not that good. I wouldn't go back even if I was desperate, I'd find something else. read more
