Pretty damn solid Mexican food! I would highly recommend the street tacos and horchata! The carne asada is very flavorful and it pairs perfectly with the salsa roja. The al pastor is sweet and is cooked with pineapple and was also very tasty. I also tried the chicken tortilla soup and it was perfect. It was like something my grandma would make! It was hearty and had lots of veggies! My boyfriend ordered carne asada fries and instead of shredded cheese, it was served with a creamier cheese (like queso fundido). Nothing was warm, and, every time we try, never is, and for example the enchilada obviously came out of the fridge, had some sauce poured on it, and alas, was cold. This little Mexican hideaway is quite a delight. It's a great place to take a date for a nice lunch just expect to pay for it! My Torta was incredible and the side of chips and homemade salsa that I had ordered with it was sooo good!!! My girlfriend had the Chicken & guacamole salad which she really enjoyed. I decided to update my review because this place deserves it. I had one disappointing experience a few months ago when I got a burrito that was so loose it was falling apart. It was surf and turf, my favorite, but less shrimp than I typically love about this place. Upon my angry review, the owner reached out, offering to make it right. I never took him up on his offer for a free lunch one of these days, but I've frequented this place since 2012 when my parents moved a few blocks down when I was finishing high school, and have gone here since. The staff are friendly and helpful and the one time I had an issue, the owner tried to make it right. I definitely support this small business. Did I mention they regularly have pupusas on their menu? They are delicious. My go to favorites are: The surf & turf burrito The breakfast burrito The pupusas And the chicken tortilla soup My husband only gets his burrito mojados here, they are his favorite. I love Mexican burrito joints that have *ground* beef as an option. I've only found one other place other than El Caballo Wraps that does ground beef (its El Buen Sabor in SF). Thank you El Caballo for offering ground beef. I received the bat signal from a friend about this place having ground beef and immediately dropped what I was doing and raced over. I got the regular burrito which was priced at $7.95. I did a little dance as I told the perplexed cashier that I wanted *ground* beef as my meat. The burrito is medium in size. Its not a large quantity, but enough to fill you up. One thing I thought was very nice was that the cashier brought me over a small cup of the corn chowder soup to try. It was delicious. I'll order it next time. And thank you for the kind gesture, kind sir. Note, this place does not give you chips for free. Its $1.50 for small chips. They really should just throw these in to match the rest of the burrito market. read more

This place is still awesome, I was going to bring some my family to meet Rudy in person but corona came around. Since then I've ordered delivery on quite a few occasions(including today) and my family LOVES IT dearly. My ma likes all of their soups, and my brothers likes their Al Pastor and Carne Asada burritos respectively. If you are craving Mexican food you HAVE to try this place, it's second to none. They have really amazing people here and they make such incredible food! I always get a burrito with Lengua; it's grilled nicely here so some bits are a delicious crunch while others just melt apart in your mouth. This is the best Mexican restaurant in Alameda that I've been to so far. It is a little mom and pop kind of shop and you can see the ladies in the kitchen cooking your order right there. They have several tables inside and one table outside. It's not the best place to seat a large group as the space is not too big. You order at the counter and they'll bring food to your table if you are dining in. I tried a burrito mojado (wet burrito) for the first time. The burrito was gigantic and it was enveloped in a plethora of enchilada sauce and cheese, so it was way more than filling. They are very generous with their ingredients as well. I could see that they provided a surprisingly large amount of carne asada inside my burrito. The burrito was delicious and I would definitely come back for more. read more

I was driving by and had to do a U turn and come back. The whole vibe of this place just reeled me in! It's so cute and colorful inside! I let the cook know that it was my first time in and he brought out several items for me to taste. It was the tortilla soup which was amazing and the chilaquiles... so good and crunchy! I found my new favorite spot. I've been here 3 times and all meals have been delicious. The food is off the charts tasty and made to order. These days It's suprising to see 3 women cooking and the guy working the register but they have it that way for a reason and I love and it. The carne asada is thick and juicy and has the perfect amount of char to it. The portions are great and the price is beyond reasonable for the quality. I'm pretty picky when it comes to burritos, I usually go to Oakland to my favorite taco trucks but I got a carne asada burrito the other day and it's literally one of the best I've had in all my life. The name kind of throws you off but this is the real deal if you want great mexican food. I haven't eaten there yet because I usually call ahead since I'm impatient and like to have a beer with my meal so I take it home with me but if they did have their liquor license I probably would eat there. We usually get a la carte meat -- their carne asada is really good as is the carnitas. You can't go wrong with their guacamole either. This used to be one of the best Mexican places in Alameda. And if you aren't too picky, it probably still is. That said, the last 6 times we have ordered, our order has been messed up one way or another. Once I got some sort of meat burrito (like full-on meat, beef I think) when ordering a vegan burrito. Then twice I found chunks of meat in my vegan burrito. My wife got pork instead of chicken. Once I got the wrong soup all together, and this last time the soup was completely missing. Really wish I would have liked this place better. Great Mexican food on Alameda seems hard to find. Gave it an honest shot so here's an honest review. Let's start with the pros: Fairly extensive menu is offered, and the chips offered with your order are pretty decent! All the components involved with the meal were nicely seasoned not to mention very quick service here. Called to place an order over the phone and ten minutes later everything was ready for pickup. Staff was busy, but still friendly. They also offer some chairs on the sidewalk to eat at if that's your thing. As for the cons: The biggest con, for what you get the prices are a bit high. It was definitely a surprise to see a 16oz horchata at $7! The food overall was just okay, on par with Alameda standards (which are already lower compared to the rest of the Bay Area) but subpar if you venture anywhere beyond the island. The fries in my California burrito tasted freezer burnt which really overpowered the meal as a whole. Breaking it down further, the chicken in the burrito was actually not bad but the guacamole lacked flavour and the fries.. well.. freezer burnt. Lastly the portion sizes were a bit disappointing. The burrito was the standard size of a burrito you would find anywhere but it mostly comprised of fries. The horchata as mentioned, being a large, was in a 16oz cup, the provided salsa was about 1 - 1 1/2 ounces, and the asada fries were also a bit skimpy. Final thoughts: it's always hard to mark someone down for their prices alone, there are plenty of other elements that need to be considered such as the need to make a living as well as to remain operational. What is less hard though is marking down quality in addition to pricing. If both standards are not there, then plenty of other restaurants out there will fill the gap. read more

Had a shrimp burrito here that was really quite good. They were fairly generous with the amount of shrimp and the shrimp had great spring too. My only knock on them is that this was a leaky burrito. I sat at one of their outdoor tables and made a little lake of juices there. This sort of matters less when you're dining in, but if you're trying to eat this on the move you'll be drenched. read more

It's been awhile since I have been to this little joint in the middle of Alameda. I chomped down on some chorizo and eggs that came with some delicious whole pintos and rice... Accompanied with fresh guacamole and corn tortillas. YUM! My dinning partner had a torte filled with Pastor goodness. I did see some fresh avocado sticking out the side, which I reached for. I love this place. My wife loves this place. My kids love this place. First the food is cooked with love and you can taste the flavor and passion the owners and this crew put into cooking up tacos, burritos and delicious soups. In fact many times I've gone in and the owner has suggested a new item or some specialty goodness and I sampled it and was blown away with how much cultural sizzle it would have. I love that. There are some big taqueria places on Alameda island but they have lost their home town warm feel. This place I found on yelp and it delivers the 5 stars they deserve.
