    Breakfast burritos

El Caballo Wrap: A Hidden Gem/ mom and pop restaurant in Alameda! Breakfast burrito - $14.50 Fresh guac, sour cream, chorizo, eggs and beans. Idk if I'm just hungry!! But !!! El Caballo Wrap is a total game-changer. I stumbled upon this place while wandering around Alameda, and it's now a regular spot. Their burritos are packed with flavor - the ingredients are super fresh, and they don't skimp on the fillings. What makes them stand out? It's all in the details. The tortillas are perfectly cook eggs and chorizo are seasoned just right, and their salsa selection is on point. Plus, the staff is always friendly and quick, even when it's busy. If you're looking for an authentic and delicious burrito experience, skip the chains and head straight to El Caballo Wrap. You won't regret it! Will be coming back here again.

Needed something fast and sound this whole in the wall. They were so personal and fast! I'm visiting from out of town but if I lived here I would come here all the time! I had carne asada tacos but finished it so fast I forgot to take a picture. So yummy!

Service - 4/5 Food - 5/5 Popped in here midday on Saturday and had a good experience. Quick service and good food. Ordered the carnitas torta and would 100% order this again. We also ordered the bean and cheese Pupusa and cheese and pork pupusa. Both were delicious but I preferred the simple bean and cheese one.

El Caballo Wraps is a small hole in the wall Taqueria on Lincoln Ave in Alameda. The menu is quite extensive though offering every type of burrito imaginable, tacos including snapper fish tacos, fajitas, pupusas, and the list goes on. They were kind enough to let us sample their chicken tortilla soup which was fresh and homemade. While sampling the soup we order one of their special burritos called Super Seafood Burrito. Super Seafood Burrito: at first I was taken back by the total which was $19.88 with tax included. But in defense, burritos on this side of the bay for whatever reason have inflated to that price. I wish someone would tell my employer, I shouldn't have to work so many hours just to buy burritos. But I digress... The burrito was good tasting and every bite had shrimp in it. That makes it a winner in my book. No skimping and good SABOR. El Caballo is definitely a spot to check out for solid Mexican food in Alameda.

We ordered take-out, our meal was ready to pick up quick! I like that it's family-owned we gotta support small eateries. Got a carne asada burrito and a super chicken burrito. I noticed dessert in the fridge under beverages. Impulsively bought Mexican tiramisu and tres leches. The tres leches was SO good!!! There was flan available too, many options! We will be back.

    Pork and cheese pupusas. Amazing!!!!

Just want to express my LOVE of this place again! And love love love the new chicken Al pastor! Soooo good! I'm currently on a keto/low carb diet. My go-to's are the two super tacos with the chicken Al pastor. They load them up! I take them home and scoop them onto my own Keto tortillas and they are absolutely fabulous!!! Also the chicken tortilla soup is the best I have ever had! Great for keto diet (as long as you don't put the tortilla strips in it, and trust me it doesn't need it.). Super hardy with big chunks of chicken and vegetables. Big fan! And as always the staff is amazing and super friendly. They are the best in alameda!

Date: 7/5/2021 Time: 6:40 PM 62° Partly cloudy El Caballo Wraps was recommended to me by a fellow yelper of Alameda. Thanks to Steve D for his review and the photo of the fish tacos. I called the order in and told the employee I would be there to pick up. I don't live too far from El Caballo Wraps. As many times as my husband and I have driven by this business to run errands, never once did we stop by to sample their food and/or even notice the business was there. I am totally impressed. First time here and they did not disappoint at all. Eats: husband had the super carne asada burrito and I had the carnitas platter with flour tortillas. I have to admit that it was one humongous burrito and hubby could only eat 1/3 of it. He enjoyed his burrito and said it was better than the one from the place on Webster Street. The carnitas platter was too much for me. The portion was generous and it has taken me three meals to finish it (yesterday's dinner, today's lunch and this evening's dinner). I filled the three flour tortillas with the meat, rice, beans and fixings for small burritos. Lunch was part of the leftover with their tortilla chips and some spicy salsa. This evening's dinner was the remaining leftover with scrambled eggs, tortilla chips and pico de gallo. I am so full and I feel a siesta coming along. Finally, there will be more visits to El Caballo Wraps. Again, I am thankful to Steve D for his recommendation. I am convinced the food is the best and quite delicious. They also have a better selection on their menu. Hurray for El Caballo. Before I forget, the Jamaica was a thirst quencher and refreshing.

As a first timer, it was nice to see the folks behind the counter know peoples orders without them ordering... we came end of day and didn't get any of the meats we wanted. No more chicharron or chile verde. Another usual customer was surprised to hear chile verde sold out and muttered "but that one never sells out..." Good enough deal to get the burrito and can soda for $14. Burrito itself was good enough. Not something i would crave for though. The tortilla was my favorite part. I wish they tightened the burrito roll. They don't give a lot of meat. The steak one was basically falling apart while eating it. The Carnitas was not chopped up, just few big dry chunks to work on... no slurpability to my burrito which knocks off a star... the salsa was definitely medium to hot heat level spice. I for sure needed the coke to help me finish my burrito without suffering from the heat too much. I will definitely want to try coming again for the chicharron. Hopefully it will be a better experience considering we went closer to the closing time. It's nice that their front is open for folks to just enjoy the space without cars, so that ups the appeal a bit more.

I'd read other reviews saying they were good, and that CRT made their own chips and had good portions. So we tried it when we were nearby. It was a "cheap" ($17) dinner fail. The chips were good. The portion was pretty good, but the nachos were bad. The salsa, separately, was also bad. You picked from tasteless pico de guyo (sp?) or overly hot salsa. No in between. Mouth on fire vs tasteless tomato chunks. The chicken was really bad. Was it old, or just NOT my flavor? Hard to tell the guacamole was thin and too lime-y. I almost wondered if it was from Costco. Cheese was also not good. We had also just exercised, and we were really hungry. This should have tasted good based on our previous exercise. But nope. I would bear loud bad music on repeat and too-bright fluorescent lights if the food was good. But you couldn't get me to go back to CRT ever again. :(

My male companion and I came here for late dinner. He ordered the Pescado entree with rice and a salad. The only salad dressing the restaurant had was ranch. I would think the restaurant would have an oil/vinegar dressing. Nope! I decided to have the two items combo (beef enchilada and pork tamale) with rice and refried beans. Of course, my eyes got bigger than my stomach. I ate half of my dinner. Yep, I had leftover tamale and rice in a box to take home. Beverage: no Jamaica agua fresca, so the waitress suggested either a mango/passion fruit or pineapple/lime agua fresca. I opted for the former over the latter. My meal and beverage were good, but I believe my taste bud has changed over the years to the point that I had dined at two different Mexican restaurants recently where the food tasted better. Inasmuch as I like to leave my 5 star rating intact with La Penca Azul, I can't. At best, it is a 3.5 stars rounded up to a four star.

Fast forward to today, my son and his friend frequent this place. After a Sunday full of errands, hunger kicked in, and we were craving Mexican food. My 13 year old suggested we come here. At that moment, I had a choice...drive out to Oakland and find a solid spot or trust my teenager's restaurant recommendation. Risky move, I know lol. Walking in, the place looked just like it did years ago clean, welcoming, and with a friendly staff. The menu? Way bigger than I remember. It had so many options, I started wondering if I needed a strategy guide to order. I just wanted everything cause I was hangry lol. My son swears by their quesabirria, so I took a bite. It was... alright. Wish the shell had that extra crisp or even a cheese crust. The beef? Decent, but could've used more spice and flavor. Maybe dipping it in the consommé would've helped like a plot twist in a bad movie, it might've saved the whole thing just my opinion : ) I went for the steak fries. Now, these weren't your typical carne asada fries with thick-cut fries, sour cream, salsa, and all the toppings stacked on. These were more like shoestring fries, already seasoned, topped with cheese and steak pieces. Not bad, but let's be real I wouldn't have minded a bigger portion. And with shoestring fries, good luck trying to scoop up all the toppings without making a mess in that little food tray lol. Also grabbed a crispy ground beef taco. It was okay, but every time I took a bite, it completely fell apart like my plans to eat healthy. Could've used a bit more seasoning too (taco snob lol) Don't be shy with the flavor. I rather have it over seasoned than bland : ) Alameda doesn't have a ton of taquerias, which is probably why everyone drives out to Oakland to hit the food trucks on International Blvd (aka E-14th for the OG Bay Area folks) Yadadaimean! Would I come back? Yeah, I would. Food isn't bad, and the prices are decent like I'm not breaking the bank here. Solid 3 stars. It's good, but not quite at that 4-star level for me.....Just saying : )

I've been to a lot of Mexican restaurants in my lifetime--plenty where the food just doesn't taste…read morethe same. It's usually the small nuances that separate an okay spot from a good one, and a good one from a great one. I'd place Island somewhere between okay and good. What I've noticed is that "good" restaurants often become local favorites, places people have been going to their whole lives. Because of that, the line between good and great can get a little blurred for them. Since I'm not from the neighborhood, I don't have that built-in loyalty. I judge strictly on taste, quality, and service--and for me, this place lands right in the middle of ok and good. BB

I'm giving this place a solid 4 stars. 4.5 to the cook and lady at the register. Solid place. I…read morerecently moved here looking for a taqueria that I don't have to leave the island for. I tried some places and they were mid AF. Damn near trash. I'm a firm believer of quality over quantity, just because it's made big doesn't mean it's good. I love a local mom and pop restaurant it's got a lot of authenticity. I'll definitely be back. This gem didn't disappoint carnitas just the way I like it bits of crunchy deep fried pork, salsa, light rice and beans. Add cheese when I'm feeling good about myself. Flavorful you can taste the carnitas and it wasn't over powering the ratio from meat to everything in it was perfect. A little bit of this and that.
