Been years since I last stepped foot in this spot. Used to live in Alameda and recall coming here once or twice probably for a burrito. Fast forward to today, my son and his friend frequent this place. After a Sunday full of errands, hunger kicked in, and we were craving Mexican food. My 13 year old suggested we come here. Now, these weren't your typical carne asada fries with thick-cut fries, sour cream, salsa, and all the toppings stacked on. Wow, I never thought I'd find bad Mexican food in the Bay Area but here we are... I have come to this taqueria before, pre-pandemic. The food was decent enough and in walking distance to my place at the time. Today I stopped in for a Taco Salad before the matinee movie next door. (Sarcasm.) No beans, no rice, no guacamole, no sour cream, NO FRIED FLOUR TORTILLA! No dressing either which if they were going for a traditional "salad" this meal wouldn't get more than two stars from me. When I asked if this normally came without the fixings they simply replied, "The Taco Salad only comes with avocado." Huh? In terms of taste, it had a sour and rancid taste from what was probably an old lime spritz on top of the "salad." The tortilla chips were stale and tasted of oldness, sort of like an old bag of chips left open for a couple of days. The carne asada was dry and lacking flavor. Honestly I almost walked away after a couple of bites, but I hate to waste food. I finished what I can, avoiding the stale chips and pieces of lettuce tasting of old lime. We placed a big order here and everything was very good. I went with three of the big tacos (your choice of meat, cilantro, onions, salsa, and cheese, $4.50 each) and tried the salsa verde, grilled chicken, and al pastor. My husband got the California burrito ($13.50), my uncle got the breakfast burrito ($11.50) and had them hold the cheese and put the pico de gallo on the side, and my aunt got the Viva Mexico burrito with no rice ($13.49). I was surprised by how much meat was on each taco. It was really two tacos worth of meat per taco. The salsa verde was my favorite by far. Just such good flavor, a little spice, and the meat was fall-apart tender. The other two meats were a little on the dry side, the grilled chicken more so than the al pastor, but at least had good flavor and the dryness was mitigated somewhat by the salsa. Next time, I'd get all of them salsa verde. The flour tortillas that are used for burritos here are a little on the thick side, almost like a gordita but not quite that thick, and the tortillas are lightly grilled. My husband's California burrito was very good and I loved the addition of the fries to make it California style. I didn't try my aunt and uncle's burritos, but they were both really happy with them, especially the breakfast burrito. We ordered in person and took the food to go and everything was ready within ten minutes. There was no one else in the restaurant on a Friday night so the food was done fast and the lady behind the counter was really nice. I've seen a couple of reviews complaining about the lack of cleanliness in the restaurant; while we didn't eat on-site and I obviously don't know what the state of the kitchen is, I can at least say that the restaurant was actually very clean while we sat and waited for the food. The counter was, too. Not sure if this place had an issue with cleanliness in the past and they literally cleaned up their act, but it at least wasn't an issue for us. No bugs in our food, nothing made anyone sick. I will definitely be back to get a chile verde burrito and a California burrito for myself. read more

Saw several people going in and out of here so I thought I would check out the menu. Saw that they have lengua burritos! Hubby loves lengua burritos so I just had to get him one! They also offer a la carte items without the rice and beans, which was perfect for us. Got a big lengua burrito for hubby, and then a large wet burrito, 2 à la carte chili rellenos , and an à la carte beef enchilada, all to have around for lunches this week. Everything was reasonably priced. Hubby really liked the lengua burrito, said it had good flavor and lots of filling. The wet burrito was just ok, nothing outstanding and it's ironic that it's called a wet burrito because I found the inside meat filling to be quite dry, the wet in the wet burrito didn't help. But it was huge and had lots of filling. The chili rellenos were excellent, cooked in a nice airy and slightly crispy batter and smothered in delicious cheesey red sauce. The beef enchilada was delicious with a very generous portion of cut up meat. The service was excellent and very friendly.
