My favorite thing about this place: I don't think you can beat the fish tacos. Absolutely wonderful (and I lived in Miami for years, where we know a thing about fish and tacos), and actually good proportions for the price, seriously wouldn't have changed anything about them. The service is also friendly and helpful! Our server (I'm sorry, I can't remember your name!) recommended the getting their watermelon margarita with Chile on the rim, and it was to dieee for on a summer evening - not too sweet and the Chile added a wonderful kick. My friend also got the ginger margarita & shrimp tacos, both of which she loved too! Good atmosphere - it looked a little dark if you were way inside, but we lucked out and got one of the small tables right by the window, perfect for a Colorado evening. El Camino was a great little date night spot. It has been on my list since moving into the highlands (a year and a half ago) and we finally made it happen. My husband and I were both pretty hungry so we ordered their green chili nachos right away. We happened to catch them during their happy hour (didn't hand us a menu but thankfully I checked on yelp) and our nachos were part of the deal. I loved the homemade chips in their nachos. They reminded me of the light and airy Taco Bell taco salad shell (does anyone remember those?!) I know that sounds crazy but Taco Bell knew how to make a great shell! I ordered the beer battered fish street tacos and my husband ordered the queso mac (which I of course sampled.) Both the tacos and Mac were good, but nothing to make me drool over. The menu here is pretty small so it didn't take us too long to skim through to find what we wanted. Our server took pretty long, almost a solid 10 minutes just for us to start our orders. As an appetizer, we got the trio dip which was really good. However, we never got our chips refilled while a table next to us who got only chips and salsa was given a stack after eating a few . We ordered 5 tacos but only received 4, which was pretty sad because this place is mainly known for their tacos. Went back to El Camino after being invited to give it another shot by a manager after my previous review. We did not alert them as to when we were coming, so they would've had no way to prepare for our arrival. Everything about my previous visit got better. The food was WAY better, much more robust and seasoned and way more satisfying than the first time we went. The loaded guac was just as amazing, and their cocktails were still phenomenal like the time before. Additionally, service was still just as excellent as it was before with lots of friendly people and very fast service. Stopped in here for a happy hour date night and it was very enjoyable. We sat in the window which was pleasant as well. We ordered the nachos and a chicken quesadilla to share. The nachos were amazing, lots of toppings and plenty for each bite. Quesadilla was your normal thing but I will say it was thicker than most. Our server did a fine job and checked in periodically. We wanted to order pretty quickly and had no issue executing that. I will say they are one of the restaurants that include a 20% tip in the bill and I am seeing this become more and more popular with restaurants around the Denver Metro area. Every now and then the universe aligns perfectly and you end up in the right spot at the right time....such an occurrence happened on our visit to El Camino as we showed up on what was apparently National Nacho Day. My girl and I had tacos on this visit which were $1 for happy hour....good thing too as they were pretty small and definitely commensurate for the price as far as toppings and size go. We ordered some nachos too with the carnitas as our protein and the flavors were quite yummy. They weren't too messy which was good as there was not a piece of silverware in sight to scoop up anything that fell from the chips. Good thing we're ok eating with our hands from time to time.... The margaritas are very easy to drink and I particularly enjoyed the Spicy Pepino. Just the right amount of peppery flavor and spice to go along with the food served. All in all a joyous visit. My only complaint was the server we started out with left pretty quickly after she started with us....turned out to be ok though as the two who took over for her were great and checked in on us frequently to make sure we were doing ok. What a refreshing place in the Highlands! My boyfriend has eaten here a bunch of times and he surprised me with brunch. We arrived when they opened and we were seated ASAP. The Bloody Marias were yummy. Last couple times I've eaten at el camino everything was just average. Decided to give it one last try today and they did not disappoint! I throughly enjoyed the guacamole. Wow, it was so tasty with chunks of avocado and tomato, chips were great too (although a little salty). I decided on the tamales. Tamales are my go to at any Mexican restaurant. They were fabulous at el camino. I would still say to pass on their green chili.. It's just so watery. But everything else was good. I'm glad I decided to give el camino one more chance. read more

Brisket Chimichurri Tacos and House Margarita for the win. I usually go with the chicken gringo tacos but was delighted to opt for the brisket this time around. My favorite part of this experience was the presentation and amount of filling in the tacos. They were perfectly sized to pick up, without the inside falling out everywhere. If I worked near here I'd probably come here regularly. 2 tacos and a soft drink/iced tea for $6 can't be beat. You get to choose between a few different protiens. I went with the shredded chicken and mushrooms, which they loaded up, two tacos was plenty filling. You also get to munch on free chips and salsa, which has a nice level of spice, while you wait for your food. They provide a choice of delicious hot sauces that seem homemade. El Camino!!! My favorite hangout in Highlands. Every server and bartender is always so friendly and helpful, and the house made infused margaritas are exquisite. The cuisine is delicious, especially my favorites the shishito peppers and Chile Relleno. The plantains foster dessert is other-worldly. Taco Tuesday is like DIA on a Friday spring break. Get there early if you want a table. The happy hour specials are solid and the guacamole and Queso is satisfying. One dollar tacos are well what you get for one dollar. They are tasting and simple. Margaritas are decent for a deal if four dollars. We asked for more chips 3 times... still no chips. The waiter was hard to flag down. Finally I asked for the check. Service was not in point. I know you are busy but grabbing a basket of chips takes 10 seconds. Bummer. El Camino has adopted a policy where they will not let you in if you are not fully vaccinated. They are also very rude about administering this policy. The host a gentleman that I do not remember there name was rude and loud about the incident. Exclaiming to the restaurant that without it he would have to ask my daughter, wife and myself to leave the premises. It was almost like a show being put on for the vaccinated individuals inside the restaurant. The one positive about this policy was that the restaurant was about 1/2 full at the time of this incident so if you have a vaccine card you can find a table fairly easily. I do not think anyone should have to be ridiculed like this when trying to support a business and for that reason we will never be returning to this establishment again no matter what policy they are forced into adopting because of lost revenue. On a quality stand point I did eat at this establishment before they adopted the mandate policy. Food was good, place was always full, and seating tended to be pretty close together as it was packed most of the time. Prices were a little more than you would expect to pay but this place is located in the highlands and there is a premium to attend certain places in this area. Overall they used to be pretty good maybe a 3 or 4 star establishment, but this has obviously changed. Just as they choose not to have people in that aren't vaccinated I will choose to never go here again and make sure I let all of my family, friends, acquaintances and anyone who will listen to not support them as well. read more

TL; DR - this place is amazing. Call ahead on a busy night. Parking is all street. Came here on a Friday night for date night. I called ahead and put our name on the list about 30-45 minutes before I thought we would get there. We were seated quickly. The service was pretty good. Prompt. This place is pretty loud though, so we did have one small miscommunication with our server but it was no big deal. The el Camino marg is pretty good and really good for $6. We each had a few. For an app we just had chips and guacamole. Pretty healthy serving of both but they could definitely give you a bigger serving of guacamole. Main dish- we both had the smugglers burrito. I had the veggie with cheese on top and he had the steak with chili on top. They were quite large but oh my gosh it was so so so good. He said the chili was definitely a little spicy. This place in my opinion is overhyped, I was looking for a taco tuesday in the area and thought i'd stop in. There was a 25min wait, and I ended up getting a seat at the bar. The bartender was cool and friendly, and I ordered three chicken tacos for the $1 taco Tuesday special. When the tacos arrived, they were about the size of my fist. In the case that you are ever serving tacos of such a small size caliber, please make sure that your customers are aware of this before taking their orders. Truly 5/5 experience, great all around. We went for the taco Tuesday $5 for 5 special. You get a meat or vegetarian option from their list of like 7. It's deconstructed, ie. build it how you like it. You know when you have that one person who wants everything plain and messes up the group order for everyone else. They eliminate that all together. We called for deets on HH and resis but got conflicting information. The low down is that Happy hour ends at 5 and they do take reservations. Indoor and outdoor front/back seating.
