I arrived with my friends and was fairly hungry standing outside despite the cold while we waited for a table but I loved the ambiance. I'm not going to say the service was excellent. The service was polite, but distant and remote due to being extremely busy. She was very effective, though, in the beginning and was responsive until the food arrived. The food was fantastic. The chicken for the quesadilla were just a bit salty, it was a little salty but They were good The flour tortillas were obviously fresh and so soft! Delicious food! Tried the queso, guac, shishitos, cauliflower, shrimp, and nachos. And of course margaritas, the histeria marg was great, I prefer not too sweet, this one was perfect (no sour mix) and was on the happy hour list which was even better. The shishitos came with a delish green goddess dip. Everything was just really well done. They try to space everyone out for covid, and they have time limits per table, so you have to prep yourself for that. Most of us are used to lingering and ordering continuous drinks. This was the final stop on our impromptu food tour while visiting Denver for a weekend. As I'm sure you already know, no food tour is complete without sampling the big momma that is nachos. Nosiree. This place earned the title "Denver's best nachos" on a random website that popped up for "best nachos in Denver" search on google. I was intrigued. My BFF with whom I was staying was bright enough to call ahead to ascertain the wait status for brunch on a Sunday afternoon in BEAUTIFUL weather. Luckily there was no wait whatsoever. We drove over and were greeted by a half-empty (or full?) restaurant. We were seated immediately. There was a BUNCH of good shit on both the brunch and regular menus. The dios mio with BRIOCHE french toast, SEARED plantains, salted tequila dulce de leche (i'm not sure how tequila plays into making dulce de leche but ok), scrambled eggs, AND bacon. Ultimately we went with the nachos on the regular menu (duh). According to that random website, this place makes their own chips which is pretty impressive for a white girl like me. Nachos are topped with green chili, black beans, melted cheese, crema, jalapenos and you have the option of adding a protein. This place has TOFU as one of the options. I was very much "digging" the vegetarian friendliness. For our other dish my fiance and I ordered the mac and queso with shells and like literally (according to the menu) 100 different kinds of cheese. There are also breaded and fried jalapenos which I have yet to encounter in my restaurant-patronizing life. Actually one of the biggest and mainest attractions are the mother fucking drink prices. For brunch, you can get a mimosa in a pint glass for $2, are you shitting me? One can also get a bloody mary or maria for less than $5. I went with a michelada which was neither the best nor worse I've sampled. My BFF ordered the mimosa due to sheer disbelief at its price but discovered, and this is her honest review, that it's disgusting. She said it smelled like vomit and even after using a straw to increase the distance between the beverage's surface and her nostrils, was unable to finish. The nachos were good but disappointing honestly. I appreciated the variety and depth of ingredients but they didn't do it for me as much as I was hoping. My devotion to nachos fondles lunacy so it is very possible that my standards are just too high. I did however, actually leave a chip or two behind which I think is very demonstrative. Incredible $5 Tuesday deal, but be prepared for a crowd! We went around 6 and got seats at the bar while it quickly filled up around us. The service was fast and friendly, and the atmosphere was lively (i.e. if you're looking for a quiet, private dinner this isn't it). For drinks we tried the Mexican Mule (very good) and the Spicy Pepino (absolutely incredible) Apps: Cauliflower chimi was flavorful and cooked to the perfect level, still had some bite to it but not too hard. A+++++ to the spicy pepino drink Ordered the loaded guac which was amazing and set a precedent for a good meal. That changed quickly though. I really enjoy hanging out at El Camino. The food is good, the drinks are really great, and the space is cozy and fun. I would definitely recommend checking out El Camino on a Tuesday since tacos are only $1 or for happy hour (any day of the week 3 - 6:30 and 10 - close) for discounted snacks and $4 house margaritas. The tacos are amazing. The carnitas are definitely my favorite - great marinade, awesome amount of spice, and the soft shells have a great crisp to them. You should also try the different homemade hot sauces. My favorite margarita is the house margarita with muddled jalapeno. It's only $1 up charge to have muddled jalapenos versus $3 up charge to have an infused margarita. However, if you aren't into spice, give the cucumber infused margarita a go. The only downside to El Camino is that there can be a wait, and if your whole party isn't there, they won't seat you. At least you can still order drinks at the bar. It was just kind of a bummer because half of my party was ready to order appetizers, but we had to wait until the remaining members of our party showed up to order food (we didn't want to take up bar seats for smaller parties). Our waitress forgot an appetizer we ordered so it came after our meals but she took it off the bill so no big deal. Caesar Salad did not have much flavor at all. We found the place noisy and hopping for a Monday night. The margaritas were good enough, (plenty of ice) the food portions were good enough, but it's not Mexican as we understand it. Looking later at the website I see that locally sourced fresh ingredients are valued, which is a good thing, and including the service charge is ok (we usually tip 20% but didn't leave extra since it was built in). El Camino Tavern: The COVID-19 era review: My wife and I have been frequenting this place for brunch, lunch, and dinner over the past 18 months, and I truly miss wandering in and bellying up to the bar for an affordable, top-notch margarita or michelada and yakking with the friendly bartenders a bit. Tonight was our first time ordering from El Camino since the Stay At Home order, and the experience was great. I called first and a cheerful voice on the other end of the line asked if I had checked out their online ordering system when I indicated that I wanted to place an order to go? "Would that be easier for you?" I queried. After she answered in the affirmative but that she was happy to take my order over the phone, I told her I'd go that route and jumped on the website. For one, they deliver with no delivery charge (one should tip handsomely, of course). For two, they also deliver cocktails. My wife and I ordered margaritas, the cheesesteak burrito, and the portabello fajitas. The website said 55 mins, but our order was here in a cool 30. The driver left the food on our front porch based on current distancing protocols, but made a point to wave as I emerged to bring it in the house. As always, the food is great and it's a nice break from cooking at home. The CheeseSteak burrito is large enough to satisfy even my appetite, and El Camino always does it right on catering to dietary requirements for my wife - absolutely zero issues with ordering the fajitas vegetarian and dairy-free. On that topic, I should also mention El Camino's vegetarian green Chile sauce -finding a restaurant that makes a DOPE green Chile sauce - sans pork - is quite a find. They can smother that green goodness on pretty much anything you order for $3.00 more, and I do it around 90% that we eat here. SO good. Once all is back to normal, Tuesday Taco Night gets pretty crowded but is well worth it for the $1.00 tacos and cheap beer.
