Not a problem, the lunch menu was equally enticing. A 2-course offering for $25. I started with the Thai Prawn Ceviche. This course was wonderfully balanced, not too acidic, also a nice touch of sweetness and plump flavorful prawns. For the main, my selection was the Beef Truffle Wok-Seared Noodles. I was delighted that they were round noodles and they arrived at my table stirred in a dark sauce with sliced beef pieces on top. A small porcelain decanter was also supplied, containing the truffle oil. I poured it over my noodles. The beef was tender, moist and could be cut with the usual provided table knife. The whole dish was a winner, from start to finish. Service here, as expected, was well executed. Need to be aware of the parking though. There is a public garage around the corner that is advertised for this establishment and a few others. Problem is, that Star Leaf validates only for 1-hour, while their neighbors do so, for 2-hours. I addressed this issue with the manager at my last visit and this time too. The answer I got was not convincing to suggest that they care, or will do something about it, anytime soon. Oh well.

The main room is noisy, even with some empty tables, Next time I'll ask for a table in the quiet section (to the right when coming in the main door.) I've driven past Newport Seafood many times and not gone in because the parking lot was already full, and it's not my style to park elsewhere and walk over. However, on Monday at 5 PM, we found ample parking. All that said, Newport Seafood seemed at its best when serving special meals to large families all around us. I will think of them next time we celebrate a special family occasion.

So we've ordered from here and have dined in as well. Probably spent at least $600 since Covid. So tonight I order for my family and when it was delivered, a dinner was missing. Turns out they no longer had an item listed on their menu. I had to call the driver to find this out. He had called the restaurant and they told him, but why did they NOT call me when they couldn't fill the order? Now my daughter doesn't get what she ordered and I call the restaurant. Talked to some gal that was probably making crappy wages and all she could say was "sorry." I am not blaming her but if I owned the place or was Manager I would have called the customer RIGHT AWAY and ask if they would like something else instead. Wouldn't that be good customer service? Even better, dont charge us for that dinner plate after being a good customer. So we WONT be giving this place any more of our hard-earned money. Luckily there are more than enough Mexican restaurants around here. Adios Amigos. P.S. So as soon as I posted the original review I get a phone call by someone from El Caporal. Isn't that nice? Instead of an apology he proceeded to tell me that I could have handled this better...wait, what??? He didn't like my Johnny Cash photo (ok, sorry about that) and he also said they called me when they realized they couldn't do an order (WRONG- they called only after the driver called them about the missing order), something about a computer glitch and that I disrespected his sister (WTF?)??? No apology, just excuses. He also said he has other customers, so no big deal if we dont give them any more business. Unbelievable. I ended up hanging up the phone on this guy. He just wanted to lecture me and he didn't want to listen. Fine, there ARE plenty of other customer friendly restaurants in this area (MOTA'S on Lincoln Ave. is about a mile away but has really good food at way better prices). I'm sorry to have supported this business through Covid. In the grand scheme of things, this is completely irrelevant. But I am posting this review because of this bad experience I had with EL CAPORAL restaurant. If I make a mistake I try to fix it, but this place wants to make excuses instead of just staying "hey what can we do to make it right?" It really is that simple. read more

Everything we've tried has been absolutely delicious, and you can really taste the quality and authenticity in every dish. The service is consistently fantastic--quick, professional, and genuinely friendly. Our food always comes out fast, and the restaurant is clean with a beautiful, authentic atmosphere. It's the place to go to, for a great, sit-down, "authentic" Mexican meal in Maple Valley. It's where everyone in the family wants to go to, whenever Mom's out of town for the night. Starts with chips and salsa, and ask for a side of beans & cheese, please. For a main entree,,, The mole is all superb, especially with an extra side of sauce, and the T-bone El Caporal Special is always great; lots of onions & peppers in the sauce, served with rice and beans and cheese and a little lettuce (and our dog loves the bone afterwards). Oh yea, and the margaritas and beer are pretty good too. At the end, you can pay from your table or, if you're in a hurry, you can pay up at the door. Parking is never an issue. Enjoy! read more

For all you taco loves, I have found the perfect spot it's this new mexican restaurant. It has all my favorite meats, like birria, chicken, asada, pastor, carnitas, lengua, cabesa, chicharon, tripas. OMG!!! They also have a special going on from 2pm-6pm monday-thursday. only 99cents for a taco! wow! the best part is the different salsas plus they give youu limes, radishes, and chips and salsa on the side. My husband had the menudo and he said that it was the real the real thing just like grandmom makes. they also have kidsmeal my son had a kid's burrito and he is a very picky eater and there was nothing on Hes plate bc its was sooo good. I've been coming ever since, through all the different locations and price changes. I remember when the fish tacos were just 99 cents on Tuesdays, then $1.25, and now they're two for $3.55. You do have to order in pairs, though, so if you want three tacos, you'll have to get four. They've expanded to about 12 locations throughout LA and East LA, which makes it convenient depending on where I'm going. I live in the San Fernando Valley, but whenever I have plans in Pasadena, I'll drive down to the Altadena location since it's right around the corner. I'll run my errands in the area and, of course, make a stop for my favorite tacos! The staff is always nice, especially the woman I usually order from. She lets me practice speaking Spanish with her while I'm still learning, and I really appreciate that. I'll typically get two fish tacos, or four if I'm especially hungry. Overall, Tacos Ensenada is my ultimate favorite fish taco spot in Los Angeles. They recently raised the price to $4.11 for two fish tacos, which is still a good deal in today's economy. I also come by on Thursdays for their meat taco specials, which I believe are now $3.71 after the price increase. Parking is easy since they share a large parking lot with SuperKing and Panda Express. I'll definitely keep coming back whenever a taco craving hits.

They have also catered my parties before and every one after gets hooked on their food. Owners also are very generous with Altadena/Pasadena community. During recent fires they too were affected and didn't stop them from helping those in need. They were providing free food everyday to victims, firefights, national guard and their own workers who also lost their homes. You can't go wrong eating there. My wife and I don't have those issues and ordered the spicy chicken. It sneaks up on you and sticks around. The great thing? It tastes amazing! The white meat was cooked just right, too.
