Their hours are 9am-9pm. I called them at 8pm on a Wednesday night and asked if they do delivery. She says "only through door dash, etc but delivery closes at 8 since they close at 9". Ok, no problem. So I get my order together from my family (no easy task when everyone wants something different) and call them back to order for pickup instead (about 8:05). Called three times and no answer. Tried one more time and a guy picks up and says they're closed. I just talked to someone though?? I said I thought you're open until 9? He says "on days like this when it's slow and we're all spent we close early". read more

Tasty we came for Mariscos, friendly - nice people, but on the pricey side. You can easily fiend other Marisco Places in Highland Park or East LA of equal or better quality for approx halve the price. read more

Food was ok. Service was ok. Ambiance was ok. Items are overpriced. Not sure how this is a 4.5 star establishment. We ordered carne asada tacos, a chile verde wet burrito, and a birria plate. We started off with some complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were fresh, crispy and lightly salted. The salsa was also very fresh. It was a mild pico de gallo salsa. Delicious. The asada tacos were ok. First, they were small. You can call them "two bite tacos". The meat was chewy and bland. Skip. The pork chile verde wet burrito was a decent size. It was primarily filled with beans and rice. It also came with a dollup of sour cream and some shredded lettuce on the side. The salsa on the burrito was mild, but in my opinion needed more of a punch. The birria de chivo plate was delicious, but half of the meat was fat!! The plate also came with a small side of cheesy pinto beans and spanish rice. Both were good. But the plate wasn't substantial. I found myself eating more chips and salsa after the meal. It pained me to pay $50 for this meal. Will I return? Probably not. Do I recommend? If you're willing to pay for overpriced mexican food in a casual environment. Sure. read more

This is a family run establishment where they take pride in what they serve. I always order the shrimp cocktail which is the freshest I have tasted around here. The nicest people and very delicious Mexican food. We had lunch here after touring JPL. Everyone in our party murmured about how delicious the food was in between hungry bites. We tried ordering a Michelada but they don't have a liquor license. The staff recommended we pick up some alcohol from the store next door and bring it back if we wanted to have cerveza to accompany the meal. Really cool thing to recommend! We bought a 12 pack and gave a couple beers to the staff because we heard them joking about how they could enjoy a few beers themselves. A few minutes later the waitress brings out a delicious Michelada made with a beer we had given the staff. It was lovely and unexpected. The Michelada itself was refreshing and hit the spot. Loved the taco de lengua (tongue)! The taco de tripa (tripe) was a bit challenging for me and the tostada de pulpo (octopus) was good but I should've requested a slice of lime as I do prefer a more intense tangy flavor. It was difficult saving our appetite for the main meal, after having the delicious pico de gallo salsa that came with a small bowl of tortilla chips. We fought the urge to have a second bowl. Mi esposo (hubby) had the carnitas plate which came with rice and beans. Had a taste of it and it was all very flavorful. The only drawback was that there was one table for two persons and another for four on a small patio and on a hot sunny day with no umbrella for shade...meltdown. I was just introduced to El Caporal, and I'm sold! The house special is called "Molcajete," and it is simply amazing. Imagine a clay pot filled with two thin sliced grilled steaks, two thin sliced grilled chicken breasts, a grilled split chorizo sausage, split grilled pepper, long stem onion, grilled sliced cactus leaf, and two sticks of white cheese slowly melting in a house salsa broth. For a little more, you should add the split grilled large shrimp. As if that wasn't enough, the meal comes with tortillas, beans, rice, and guacamole. This meal can easily feed two or three, but I ate the whole thing by myself since the flavors were so amazing. No way was I going to share! Love this local place. Best carnitas tacos I've had in the area, and I also dig their huevos rancheros for breakfast. Their tamales are excellent! My partner is lactose intolerant and he ordered a smoothie with strawberries and horchata (yum!). We have been trying to find a place for breakfast that has huevos rancheros for me and pancakes for him. We did--he loves their pancake special! Giant. A molcajete for one feeds enough for two. So we got the more expensive one with shrimp (approx. $22.00). First time I had a molcajete and it was a tasty mixture of different meats, salsa, green onions and nopales. They also have a wide array of natural fresh squeezed juices. Picked up street style tacos not really believing my cousins hype but we both got the tripas and lengua tacos (because that is what she recommended) and I was pleasantly surprised! They were both delicious! The tripas were crunchy yet tender and the lengua was well seasoned and just very yummy! Their red salsa was also good! $9 for a Burrito??? WHAT WHAT?? Where is the radishes, where is the grilled onion, where is the jalapeno, where are the chips??? Nothing just the average sized burrito for $9?? What what? I came in wanting to support my community business (I just moved in the area) but I will not support an establishment that is looking to rip off its customers! I thought this burrito was going to be one monster burrito for $9? No this was an average sized burrito. No sour cream, no guacamole, no cheese. Just the basic rice, beans, onions and cilantro!!!! To top off the insult they charge an additional $1.50 to add red sauce on an already overpriced basic burrito. I didn't know I was on the Santa Monica Boardwalk or in a Mall. This place also didn't have prices on their menu and it was a ghost town in there, that should have been a huge red flag for me but silly me I still ordered. They hardly gave meat and it didn't taste very flavorful. Want some good Mexican food in the area? Stick to Mota's on Lincoln and Tacos of Ensenada also on Lincoln. Great place. Has a menu which I'd call the Mexican equivalent of Cheesecake factory. Chorizo quesadilla is my favorite thing ever. The only thing better than the food is the service. And believe me, the food is great. You can find familiar favorites here alongside more unique regional specialties. They also have an amazing selection of fresh juices (and you can add "el kale" to any of them) -- and that makes perfect sense, because their produce is so fresh and crisp and good. That's what really sets them apart from some other neighborhood Mexican restaurants. You can get a decent enchilada anywhere. But here you get beautiful veggies as well, in your house-made salsas and soups and ceviches. The service is so genuinely kind and they really go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and meet your needs. You truly feel like a guest in their restaurant, even though it's not a fancy place at all. When we have out of town guests asking for the good Mexican food that you can't get in some parts of the country, we take them here. read more

Went here after a hike. Was greeted with some beautiful singing by the hostess/waitress. I ordered a fish burrito, wet, and a shrimp quesadilla. Also had a horchata to drink. They have complimentary chips and salsa for dinning in. They also bring out a carousel with salsas of varying hotness and sliced jalapeños. Every salsa was delicious! When my food came in realized I may have ordered a bit much for myself. I finished every bite. The waitress said " I didn't think you were going to finish it." I said " Neither did I. I like this place. I ordered a couple of ceviche's and their signature garlic shrimp.. That shrimp dish was really good. For some reason it sort of reminded me of that garlic shrimp truck(Giovanni's Shrimp Truck) in Hawaii. While eating it the garlic shrimp, it brought back that memory for that Hawaiian food truck. Only thing it was spicy. I kept sweating while eating it, but i couldn't stop because it was good. I felt there wasn't enough rice n beans with the dish, but the garlic shrimp was on point. Next time i'm going to t order just garlic shrimp with mild hotness. Also the table was a little slanted so the oil from the garlic shrimp was getting onto the rice and salad, so my mouth was on fire the whole time. But i am definitely going again.
