This place is huge and has outdoor seating. I lost count of the tabletops. Holy cow. Huge. 16 oz. Soda fountain refills no greater than $2.99 in value. They bring tortilla chips to your table piping hot and salty with salsa. I ordered an alambre. It had different types of meat and I'm pescatarian. So I asked if I could just have the seafood without the meat and they accommodated me, no problem. The only reason it doesn't get five stars for me is that they do play their music a little loud for my taste. So it can be a little noisy. read more

Met up with some friends at El Catrin (second visit). Really nice outdoor seating area, staff is friendly, frozen margaritas taste great, but I'm not convinced they are very strong. Food is good, but what I ordered and what I received did not match the description in the menu very well. I had our server check, and she agreed that it may have been something else. She asked if I wanted to order something else, but I'm not the type to send something back (unless it's really bad), and I would have felt wasteful, so I smothered it in cheese sauce and made do. My tummy is full. All in all, the place is good - their outdoor seating is the place to be on a beautiful day! read more

First, I walk in and it had that same dirty mop water smell you get when you walk into a nasty 7-11. Bartender with less than pleasant attitude, awful and loud music and the food was just not good. I got in the car and felt like a mack truck ran over me. For theses prices nowadays, I'm expecting a lot more. This didn't do it at all. read more

My wife and I went to dinner the other night and we're not disappointed! The food was great and the drinks were good!

Never been to this place before decided to try it out. We got a steak quesadilla however it was literally a soft taco with steak and cheese - not a quesadilla at all. We got a chimichanga which was good. We also ordered Catrin's Alambre which is their special. I wanted it because of the fish, scallops, crab and shrimp. I told them no bacon or onions. My plate came out with 3 pieces of shrimp, a lot of steak and some jalapeños NO OTHER MEAT. I was supposed to get rice and beans. I only got rice. It also says I'm supposed to get 3 tortillas but I requested crunchy tacos. I got 2 tostadas. The Alambre meal says it comes with Grilled fish, grilled chicken, steak, bacon, scallops, crab meat, and shrimp. Cooked with jalapeños, onion, and topped with cheese sauce. Served with rice, beans, and three flour tortillas. I did not get any of the fish, chicken, scallops or crab, missing beans as well. I told them about my plate they took my entire plate back. With in 5 mins a "new plate" comes back with some scallops and a few more pieces of shrimp. STILL NO FISH, NO CRAB, NO CHICKEN and NO RICE! Also still didn't get any of my crunchy taco shells. I didn't say anything but I paid full price and was missing ALOT OF MY MEAL AND THEY DID NOTHING ABOUT IT. I also got their version of a elote/street corn. I've had way better elote. This elote was in a bowl not on the Cobb. The elote was very sour tasting and they put some seasoning on it and threw it in a bowl for $6 I do not recommend at all. They were nice though but for $17 for 1 plate I should get it what's listed + $6 for my elote, no thanks! We spent $50 on dinner. Would I come back, NO! Parking is also ridiculous and a accident waiting to happen in their parking lot, extremely tight! I wouldn't recommend ordering Catrin's Alambre you might not get what your supposed to get. read more

Good neighborhood Mexican restaurant. We have been a few times and will come back again. It's kid friendly.

Same great food as its sister location, about the same so so service. We were seated in the very back area and it was so incredibly noisy. We will not return to sit in that area. Seriously, not only could you not talk to the people sitting across from us, it is so loud it hurts. I hope they can fix that issues. I would have given a 4 or 5 based on the food but the dining experience was a 2 at best. read more

First time here robust business parked in the lost across street, hope it was ok. Good salsa and warm chips. Not too spicy. Generous margaritas. Fish taco were amazing. Did not want to share. Had hint of mango and fresh cilantro topped the gently fried fish. Spouse got his favorite, burrito and again very satisfied. It was busy, Sunday at 6:00 PM and we found a spot at the bar. energetic staff. Clean restrooms always a plus. Will return with family. read more

Took a small group for lunch Thur 3/2. First visit for all of us. The restaurant is very nice, plenty of room, good servers, good food, would definitely like to come back and try more of their menu. But I would like to make one suggestion to whoever is in charge of El Catrin. Please turn the music down. THE MUSIC IS WAY TOO LOUD. I can see having it booming in the front bar but where we sat in the dining room we could not hear each other talk while all sitting at the same table. It made us very uncomfortable and we hurried up and ate so we could get out of there. Would love to come back and be able to have a more relaxing meal. Thank you P.S. DO NOT park in the small side parking lot next to the restaurant, once it begins to fill you will not be able to get out, too small!!! Park across the street. Nice large interior, bar and decor, really great outdoor seating once weather warms up. Drinks were reasonably priced and tasty. Food was typical Mexican fare, street tacos look great but side taco not worth your time. Polite, friendly staff. Just made out first visit to El Catrin. Heard it was good from friends. Loved the atmosphere. Plenty of natural light. I don't ever like to eat o. A place that is dark and feel so enclosed. First off, our server, Ingrid was fantastic. Her smile never left her face and we were well taken care of without her being intrusive. When we go out, we like to take our time, have a drink and relax. Ingrid made sure we weren't rushed. Now on to the food. The table side guac is a must. It was so fresh and fantastic. Well worth it. I got a side of the street corn. The bowl you get it enough to feed 3 people and it is the cheapest street corn in the area. The from the grill chimichanga was so full of flavor. I can't write a review for what my family got since I didn't eat it but everything I tried was fabulous. The portions are perfect and the prices are great. Can't wait till the patio is open. We will defiantly be back and hope that Ingrid is our server. read more

I am from New Mexico. I had a very good Margarita, a passable tamale, and an excellent relleno. I don't often get to say that about a Mexican restaurant in South City. I am happy it is in our neighborhood, because I plan on going regularly and trying more of the menu. read more

We moved in this area about 1.5 years ago and have had this place slightly on our radar. We went today and loved it! The chips were thin and perfectly crispy (not the break your teeth thick chips), pastor tacos were bombbbb and my 1 year old ate a whole plate of their refried beans Regular margaritas were only 4.99. Okay, I'll hush, but the patio with lights, and cute/huge inside were a surprise. Check it out! read more
